Say what you will about JN-T and his numerous terrible decisions, he did a great job of ensuring that every Doctor in his era was a suitable foil to the previous, if not drastically and radically unique. This is in spite of having the monumental task of finding a suitable successor to Tom Baker, at a time when it would have been easy to make every successive Doctor a Four clone so as not to stir the pot.

And for the part, JNT's approach worked like a charm. Even Six could have been kino if his redemption arc had been allowed to play out as intended (and, frankly, I find his cartoonish arrogance to be hilarious as-is).

okay so i'm rewatching doctor who from 2005 and i'm on series 6. in the first episode of the series the doctor doesn't recognise river song, implying he's meeting her for the first time, but this moment has already happened in series 4.

also in the next episode, even though river has already been told by the doctor that this is the first time he's met her in the previous episode, she somehow forgets and when the doctor tells her again that this is the first time he's met her, she is shocked as though she's hearing it for the first time.

did moffat do something complicated in this series and this all gets explained later or did he forget what happened on the show?
