I like the show, like, It had the potential to be loved. I'm not sure if its the Starz thing but so far the general vibe is over stylized and superficial.

The book was cool, because it was fantasy based in our world, it was grounded yet weird as fuck. The show has so many slow mo glitzy meaningless shots with the exception of the driving stuff, it detracts from what is a very interesting story.

The dialogue could be stronger and general character interaction more substantial. So far its either been purposefully ambiguous or simply plot driven. The emphasis is all over the place, the wife has nothing likable about her, Shadow has zero charisma and little personality aside from "so confused, angry sad now wew".

If I had to guess, they're making Laura more prominent to try to make people actually give a shit when she does things. In the book she literaly strolls out of nowhere, sometimes kills Shadows's enemies, and mainly exists as an excuse for him to feel sad and think sad thoughts for drama purposes. There's very little about her thought processes until she got ressurected by the Norns, at which point she goes right back to her killing spree until she ends up too wounded to move. And before you ask no, Jesus was barely involved at all in the book

Since that shit doesn't translate well to screen, guess they had to go and make her more of an actual character, for better or worse.
