What are some pleb-tier horror movies that are still intense / scary / unnerving?
I mean stuff like The Conjuring or Oculus; effective horror that doesn't pretend to be smarter than its genre.
i like the conjuring, but oculus is definitely better and actually pretty fucking sp00ky.
ouija 2
dead silence
v/h/s
>>83424489
Yeah I really liked Oculus, it gave a real sense of dread. I think I'll watch Ouija 2 next because it's by the same director. The Conjuring was intense and startling but not that spooky.
Is Sinister any good?
>>83424405
Stir of Echoes is like a textbook of quick cheap horror movie tricks.
>>83424489
>v/h/s
This honestly. That woods scene where he guts the girl with a knife and then she flops around like a fish really fucked me up.
>>83424814
yea sinister is good.
interesting concept too.
>>83424405
Banshee Chapter was actually quite spooky, I nearly couldnt finish it at one point
>>83425137
I'm a sucker for 'good' found footage horror, and Hell House LLC was pretty great. You should check it out OP, it has pretty likable characters and the scares are creepy.
still suffers from the typical 'one skeptical retard makes everyone stay at the spooky house because he's greedy' thing
>>83425107
Seconding Sinister, the badguy looks like he's fresh out of an /x/ copypasta but those home movie segments are genuinely unnerving
I don't get how people dont like the alien short from v/h/s 2
>>83425349
agreed, i really enjoyed it
>>83425516
I hope whoever made it got some recognition out of it, because they should make more horror.
>>83425349
>>83425516
oh shit, also forgot about this one completely, and the whole thing is on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Afyzdpzm1AU
one of the best found footage horrors I've seen. It's a slow burner but really effective.
>>83425647
speaking of full horror movies on youtube, Hush is pretty great and it's in 720p:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rH_O5h2109M
same director as Oculus and Ouija 2
The Skeleton Key
Grave Encounters was fun.
Chichibu Demon
>>83424814
Conjuring 2 has some good scenes too
any movies like a dark song ?
>>83425873
Hush quit being spooky as soon as he took off his mask.
>>83424405
bye bye man
How come you can never rely on review scores for these kinds of movies? Audience and critic scores are all over the place for 90% of the flicks listed ITT
>>83424405
We are still here, pretty godlike jumpscares myman.
>>83424489
Dead silence is pretty funny. It`s a very good pick to watch unpretentiously.
Why do all these movies always star women
>>83426872
How are you even supposed to rate a horror movie when it's only scary the first time you watch it?
>>83424405
ty for thread OP
>>83428119
Women love seeing awful things happen to other women.
>>83428119
Because the main character in a horror movie should be fearful, and fearful men look like pussies
The Gallows
>>83426540
Grave Encounters was probably the only found footage movie after REC to really do justice to the genre. Shame 2 was absolute piece of shit cash grab that didnt even grab any cash.
>>83428119
They look good scared
>>83426721
This
Its much harder to be scared of a boogyman once you know its just some weird guy.
>>83428119
They are really bad at fighting off anything or anyone. So a situation will be scarier since they cant do anything about it except almost die for an hour.
maybe
>>83429823
grave encounters was good, but it's definitely not better than v/h/s or the borderlands
>>83428143
>>83426872
Not only that, but different people are scared by different things and to completely different degrees. Considering that the scare factor is all that really matters, I can't think of a genre that's more difficult to rate with any sense of objectivity than horror.
The slightest bit of hype or praise skews peoples expectations so drastically, too. It's really best to take all horror movie reviews with not a grain, but a fucking mountain of salt. No expectations, no exceptions
>>83424489
I just finished watching Ouija Origin of Evil. I really enjoyed it. Not as much as Oculus, but close
>>83425056
>Stir of Echoes
That's one that I missed, not sure why. I'm gonna watch it now
Sinister. Holy fuck that movie is probably the scariest thing you can watch. The soundtrack is haunting.
>>83425873
I'm in the minority. I found Hush too stupid/hilarious to find scary.
The Hill Have Eyes remake
>>83426444
Always loved this movie, guess it'll never reach that cult status
Prometheus
Alien: Covenant
any more?
>>83433487
lovely molly
>>83424489
I didn't even watch the first Ouija because it looked like shit, but I watched Origin of Evil and loved it
>>83431132
>>83425107
>>83425407
I just got done watching this. You're right the premise sounds straight out of some /x/ copypasta.
I thought it was great. It had some gripping drama and tension. Surprisingly funny at times, too.
The taking of Deborah Logan was pretty spooky. 8213: Gacy House too. There's ghost rape and shit.
I recently watched Raw and it was pretty good. It's a French movie. Not exactly horror per se but with horror undertones?
If you like films where the characters go exploring down ancient ruins/tunnels I can recommend a few:
>As Above So Below
archaeologists and venture really fucking deep into the paris catacombs, pretty damn good movie
>Pyramid
archaeologists discover the top of a massive pyramid in the desert, venture into it. Not as good as the above but still good
>The Ruins
similar theme to Pyramid I guess, I'd only watch this one if you've seen the other two though since its the worst
>>83430420
This is why I try to not watch trailers for horror movies, a big part of the enjoyment is not having watched any of the clips or giving your self any kind of hype before watching them
>it's a possesion/haunted house flick
why are there so many of those?
I don't remember the title maybe the devils candy? Rusty from Vegas vacation is in it. It was really solid
>>83435175
Most horror movies are to do with a haunted place of some sort, even slashers
>>83432195
In the context of what the OP is asking for, these movies are actually pretty great
>>83425873
the ending fucking sucked
>>83435200
>the devils candy
I'll check it out, looks interesting
I recommend The Monster (2016)
The acting was surprisingly good, I was expecting a b-horror.
>>83424405
is that daddario?
>>83436279
KEK
Annalise Basso is a qt
>>83435080
If you haven't seen it, The Descent sounds super for you.
What is v/h/s? Is it a collaboration of /v/, /h/, and /s/? If so, would watch.
>>83437868
I know, right?
>>83438287
almost reminds me of a young christina hendricks
future MOMMY right here for sure
>>83438541
Apart from both being gingers, they look nothing alike. Annalise has very distinct eyebrows and Christina has way bigger tits
Is Insidious any good?
Or The Conjuring 2?
>>83424405
Would you let her give you the S U C C?
>>83436279
underrated
>>83426698
The only one that seems similar to me is Jacob's Ladder.
>>83426721
Did it hurt?
>>83437868
>>83438287
this chick grew up to be so hot
>>83442967
Hnnnnnnnnnggg
What was the point of Occulus again? Like why were they messing around with it instead of just smashing it when it was weak?
There were some good spooks in it, but I remember thinking it was all just a bit pointless.
>>83443420
i think it was because they didnt know what it was and were dedicated to figuring it out?
>>83435200
Didn't think much of it at all. It was one of those movies where the main characters are just so insufferably cool, and the peril they're in isn't even that perillous and they come through unscathed. The grand finale was the precocious teenager jumping over foot-high flames after a huge build up, like it was an amazing feat.
Just a bit mediocre and boring really, with a metal music gimmick slapped on.
>>83424405
Saw would probably be my pick.
I also didn't mind The Ring, despite all the shit it gets.
>>83424405
I was pleasantly surprised by Life (sci fi horror). I thought it was a cgi fest which is why I did not see it in cinema but it has some really well directed and unnerving scenes revolving around what is best described as a very muscular fibrous alien being/parasite.
>>83442967
That's not even her, is it?
