It's entirely too dreamlike and completely misses the point of the book. The world around the old gods isn't fantastical and weird, which is why they don't fit into the world any more. But in the show the entire world is theirs. Even the new gods feel like otherworldly dream creatures when they're supposed to be born of our modern world, not separate from it like the old gods. And starting off the series with that 300-esque scene of cartoon violence really tells yous everything you need to know about it: It's dumb, flashy and nothing like the book.
