If you're looking for a specific point, I'd have to say it was Avengers. The other 'buildup" movies all had room for a smaller cast to grow and develop; you'd have lead hero, lead villain, and a surrounding support cast.

Then Avengers happened, and it worked because we'd gotten half a dozen movies to see the characters with more room.

Now? Most of the buildup movies are either films like Civil War or the GOTG films which have to work around ensemble casts and any development or close interaction is distilled down to banter. In the instances of other movies, they tend to exist in a universe whose overseers have to remind us at nearly every turn that "hey, this is happening at the same time as that!"

I think my biggest complaint is that the stand-alone films have been *too* detached for the most part. There was absolutely no reason for IM3 to not have been about Banner and Stark fiddling around with Ultron and it finally getting out of their hands.

You could have also continued the public backlash over unsupervised heroes like Stark and the rest continuing to fight against government oversight, given that Stark is not only the poster child for substance abuse, but also the spokesman for the Second Amendment. You could have had those two feed into one another with Stark realizing that he really is out of control. Shit, have him go on a booze cruise because Pepper left him. Let him go out drunk as Iron Man and actually fuck something up like they foreshadowed in IM2. You could use that and Ultron: Round One as the reasons for him getting on-board with supervision.
