I know that the first episodes "german interogation" scene is supposed to be a metaphor for this season's theme, but I don't know what the theme is.

Being committed to a lie that no one believes?
>>
>>82116007
how does he do that with his jaw?
>>
>>82119845

Replying with sarcasm to a serious question is usually a way of telling someone that you don't want to talk about it. Most likely she's already had that conversation with other people a hundred times.

>>
>>82120133
The guy wasn't lying, the interrogator was gaslighting him to the point that his defense sounds like a lie.
>>
>>82120133
I see it as an analogy to the Varga- Emmit situation. Varga/the german is in a position of power and is not giving the underdog a choice. Could follow the predator thing going on in S1 but in a more social way
>>
>>82116007

>Replying with sarcasm to a serious question is usually a way of telling someone that you don't want to talk about it. Most likely she's already had that conversation with other people a hundred times.

That sounds like a real stretch on your part, this is like the first time she's met this guy and she's being a flippant jackass straight out of the gate?

I get the show has quirky characters, but I'd rather believe that she doesn't like computers and actually uses telex rather than she just rolls her eyes and acts like a cunt to a superior officer.

I don't know maybe it all ties in with how technology doesn't work for her (automatic door, cellphones etc)
>>
>>82120368
The part when he says random shit in Emmit's office sounded like French. Looks like he basically speaks random european languages.

Am I the only one that thought the series was in the 80s/90s until the second episode? I feel so retarded now.
>>
>>82121011

If they had gone from day 1 they'd be looking at fraud/grand larceny for faking where they acquired their capital, as it stands now they're looking at getting straight fucking murdered or family members straight fucking murdered if they get out of line, FFS just searching for this guy got one guy killed, hopefully they picked up on that subtext.

Best part is that thanks to mustache there's going to be a bunch of attention drawn their way.

I think he's just supposed to be a shlubby loser. I get what you're saying, but I think the slimeyness would work for someone who was more of an asshole. As opposed to just a desperate slacker, like William H Macy in the Fargo film.
>>
>>82119942
I'm talking about s2 and reagan era followed by non sequitur spielburger ufology for good measure. The entire show is a boring deconstruction which is the last harbour of postmodernity and I hope it goes away for good soon enough.

I don't think Ray is supposed to be slimy. He's just someone who had life pretty much never go his way, especially compared to Emmit.

Policewoman with computers and phones, old lawyer with the computer, Varga going on about how parking lots are good because they don't rely on technology, Ray still driving a clapped out car.

Maybe it's just me thinking it, but I feel like there's a definite theme.

The Regan Era was predicated on being an era afraid of and anxious of the future. Thus the fear hanging over the whole season is the future. The whole season starts with Keiran Culkins gearheart being afraid of his future in his family. Patrick Wilson fears his wife's certain death. The actual corporate take over of the mob even describes itself as the future at one point. Its actually a really good example of picking a time period to support the overarching theme of your show, and the aliens are a nice magical realism touch to reinforce it. It's not deconstructive, it's constructing common meaning between various seemingly unrelated plot points. Its actually an example of good writing.
>>

>>
>>82129019
Except its hinted at throughout and woven into several character's experience throughout. Also it's Fargo, a show set in the midwest that is itself a myth by its own declaration. Or you know it's about how the future comes in to save the day which is his whole arc, learning to embrace and look forward to the future. Hank's revelation he's trying to communicate with Aliens a la chariots of the gods is a nice reversal on everyone else's fear and anxiety towards the future. Once our protagonist accepts the future for what it will be, he's freed by it. But hey its a TRUE story so make sure to be autistic and get hung up on the plausibility

Sy, and one of the two henchman will probably be the only big ones. Not sure if I like the more tame approach, but I'm excited to see it all. I do hope they get some of the intensity back. The theme is stories, which is why they leave the word story lingering in each opening. The sci-fi stories the dead step-dad wrote, Varga using the company as a story for the money laundering, Swango wanting to write the story of their victory in bridge while ignoring reality.

But he is the Yuri who killed the woman from the start? So, this series will mean that Yuri will be an important figure in the series as he is linked back to an old murder? Varga seems like a guy who "greased the palms" of those accusing the innocent guy and took Yuri to work for them.

>My guess is Yuri is the Hanzee of this series

I also love how he dresses like a 25 year-old when he's over 40. Plus...

Anyone know what language Varga was saying to Meemo?

>So we've seen how criminal organizations run in Fargo with Brad Garrett having slideshows of the Gerdhartz, is Varga - the actual boss or a Mike Milligan/Brad Garrett type? They've sussed out Emmit's organization - possibly Mike Milligan's organization with Mr. Wrench getting revenge? It feels like the theme is Cold War. Ray represents America, Emmit Russia.

From Molly's mom's cancer (which colonises her body, a foreign, malignant growth) to the aliens (an advanced civilisation encountering a primitive one), to the Gerhardt's attempts to resist the Fargo mob's takeover, and Hanzee's (a literal native) resisting the Gerhardt's, and becoming an insurgent, it's about imperialism. or the transition between ways of life.

>>82135704
There's no maybe about it. You are a fucking idiot. Watch shows better. Lovecraft is cosmic horror. It's about beings, entities and concepts too vast for human imagination. VM Varga is not too vast for mortal minds. He's a Limey scumbag extortionist and loan shark, but operating at the highest tier. Lovecraft is not interchangeable with horror. They are not synonymous. His is a specific genre of all horror, and it's fucking stupid to generalise all things that are based on "fear of the unknown" to Lovecraft because Lovecraft has become a lazy, asinine meme that's misused and abused by fuckwit millennials to refer to anything they find even slightly "spooky".

Yeah okay I dont disagree but you're missing context. Theres a reason for the clip of Carter saying that there is a crisis of confidence in our future. Its not that easy as they depict it, but main thing is, they did loan money from loanshark, that not only blimps you on radar of various fuckups but its dumb in itself, their whole practice is based on not allowing people to pay back, they are not happy as long as they squeeze you out like the lemon, I guess most sensible thing to do was to go to feds and take a shoot, maybe they'll survive, maybe

In season 1, boss of Fargo cartel says while eating lobster: Kill or be killed. Head in the bag. That is the message.
Indjun says same thing on end of season 2, basically, Indian is fat Greek.
Lorne Malvo probably kills Indian in 22 dead -killing spree , making a circle whole .

Sorry to all naysayers but every season of Fargo is at least highly above average TV, even season 2 is

I still would like to believe that the Tripoli we see is just the public face, especially with Hanzee's name literally meaning Shadow, I can just see him be in the background relaying messages through his proxy.

and could be a way to bring back Wrench to reveal what happened to Hanzee's other surrogate son perhaps in a flashback shortly after the timeskip in S1
