Not sure if this has been discussed but basically, for animated films the nominees used to be selected by animation industry experts and professionals. Now, it's open to the entire nomination board that give you the typical Oscar season - only best picture nominees; the Hollywood obsessed plebs.
We could easily be left with things like pic related not being nominated because they're not Pixar / DreamWorks etc, which would kill small studios

Thoughts?
Going to bump with some stills in the hope people here enjoy this stuff

Not being nominated for the AA will not kill small studios, come on
Just another reason to not give a shit about the oscars

If studios like cartoon saloon (OP pic) weren't getting nominated it'd kill their international exposure and they'd be relying largely on the domestic market, which is fairly shit for small movies
Might not completely kill them but they wouldn't be able to make half as many feature lengths as the Oscars exposure allows

They're so bad it's unreal

Hmmm

I kind of agree because the smaller studios take a longer time to produce their works while people's awareness is being flooded by the constant mainstream releases. It's easy to miss out on awesome stuff due to lack of exposure.

also this
Bums me out. Did they say why they're doing it?

>ed but basically, for animated films the nominees used to be selected by animation industry experts and professionals.
Certainly the awards weren't given by experts, lol

Don't think so, it really doesn't make sense
You'd imagine it has to have something to do with pressure from the big studios, people weren't happy when song of the sea beat Lego movie to a nomination

Awards maybe not but the nominations were at least chosen by people who understand the industry

Cant wait to see Boss Baby nominated for the next Oscars
