Did Millennials ruin film?
>>
>>81996897
No, boomers did. And the Gen X-ers are responsible for the quipping epidemic.
>>
>>81996897
Gen X did actually.

>>
Technically yes since they are the target audience of this shit. Hollywood panders to the hip audience, and the millennial mindset is the hippest.
>>
>>81996897
oh I get it because cursing hahaha
>>
>>81997159
Wraps everything up in a nice neat little bow.
But really, the only reason why it happens is so people can sell shit to people who have a similar experience. It's why you're never going to get a straight answer on what a millennial is.
>>
>>81996897

Whoever the fuck pushed the endless quipping and the demand for movies that "don't take themselves too seriously" certainly ruined action films, that's for sure. This is why they are all forgettable as fuck now. I'm not a dick sucker for the new Mad Max or Dredd 3D, but there is a reason why those movies felt so fresh when they came out. Since they took themselves seriously, they were actally engaging films.

I feel like the current trend of adding humor every other scene to remove all tension is crutch for writers these days.
>>
>>81997367
I'd add John Wick too but ya I agree.

>>
>>81997816
How do you come on here, see threads about celebrities declaring gender an infinite spectrum and that we're all unique, and call it collectivism?

Individualism is what's wrong with the west. There's no community anymore. Everyone's alone and alienated, that's why we spend so much fucking time on 4chan instead of having a beer with our neighbors.
>>
>>81997367

It's not just a crutch for writers, but it's beneficial for the shitty celebrity casts they usually have too. They can be a lot more casual with their performance.
>>
>>81997875
The older members of Gen Z are around 21. Most millennials are going into their thirties.
>>
>>81997367
The problem is that they hire big stars with huge insurance policies covering them to make action scenes. So they can't make them themselves and it gets to a point to can't use extras, because those fights need close ups, so they have to cover them with CG effects or edit tricks (the infamous 2 cuts per second MCU bullshit). And when the action in your action movie looks like fucking shit, you need to make it up with something, and that something is comedic relief. Both movies you mentioned had great action scenes, it's not a coincidence

it's weird how people perceive time, isn't it?

generational grouping like this is kinda useful for some stuff I guess, but any statement that goes "generation-[whatever] ruined [thing]" can be safely ignored, because anyone who says that is beyond stupid.
>>
>>81997816

It's not surprising. If you go down the 'rugged individual' rabbit hole it inevitably leads to 'why do I need a cell phone? Why do I need cable? Why do I need the internet? Why do I need a job?' And you end up buying a chunk of land in the middle of nowhere, building a log cabin and spending your life growing potatoes and fishing.

They don't want us to figure that out. They want to get paid.

>generational grouping like this is kinda useful for some stuff I guess
It helps emphasize some interesting sociological trends, pic related.

>any statement that goes "generation-[whatever] ruined [thing]" can be safely ignored
The odd part to me, is why the blame always falls onto the generation who has/causes a problem, and not to the ones that raised them. If most 16 year olds are experimenting with drugs, then that reflects just as badly on their parents, if not more so.

Pop culture ruined everything, if they can't put it on a t-shirt to sell then it won't get known to the large general public, unfortunately.

Also I remember when Iron Man was a literal WHO? to the public, very funny and ironic he's now everyone's favourite superhero because of the MCU cancer.
>>

>Pop culture ruined everything
I don't think you realize how retarded what you just said actually is.
>>
>>81998691
That doesn't really work since men have been getting 'softer' and 'softer' since the end of the last glacial maximum due to advances in technology, advances that generally take place during periods of peace and stability, generally by men who wouldn't be considered particularly formidable survivors or warriors.

Jonas Salk for instance, has had a huge impact on us enjoying 'good times' currently, but I doubt his ability to wrestle bears into submission or skin elk with his teeth.
>>
>>81999126

Because although they can't admit it to themselves they realise they are just products in Mr Shekelstein's Amerimart and they are desperate to get good shelf placing as commerce is the only thing that matters to them. See all over /tv/ how people genuinely fight over which product they are loyal to as if Disney or Time-Warner will be pleased with them.
>>
>>81996897
No, but autists did. They always bitch and moan about quipping because capeshit for children should always be super serious and dour.
>>
>>81999408

This too. I hate the way everything now has to be hyped up and a spectacle for them rather than entertainment it is supposed to be.

See like here, the only way this peon can endure his miserable life is because he has been told that every other place in the world is in worse servitude than he is despite the fact that he labours under the most complete form of slavery ever devised and North Koreans unironically have more right to self determination than him. This system of oppression is either only partly implemented in other countries or it isn't present at all, the people having perhaps less material options such as which poisoned breakfast cereal to buy or what poisonous beverage to drink but are otherwise free emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually in a way that an amerislave not only couldn't never experience, but couldn't even comprehend.

Only they didn't.

Millennials are the all-must-win-prizes children of soppy "disco boomers".
GenX is in between, their children are the far more based and serious GenZ.

Millenials may be the first generation routinely working for people younger than them who have more drive, resilience and common sense.

Millennials have produced nothing.

As most employers agree, they lack drive, resilience and common sense which had been traded for special-snowflake traits and entitlement.

All millennial art is a copy of something prior generations created in their youth, they have created nothing worth mentioning themselves.

Its incredibly depressing, they don't even have their own fashion (clothes seem the same as they did 20 years ago, contrast the 50s/60s/70s/80s/90s, you'd have looked like a weirdo/got beaten up going between epochs in the same threads) let alone artistic movements.

Music has been the same for 20 years (look how long Beyonce has been around, look how many times David Bowie or Madonna had to reinvent themselves to get through a decade).

God help us when Generation X film-makers have to pass on the baton, there isn't anything or anyone waiting.

Maybe, as many employers are increasingly concluding, the sensible thing is to skip a generation. Keep Generation X working longer until their children, Generation Z, come on-stream.

Have you ever seen movies like Big Trouble In Little China? Great action movie, doesn't take itself seriously at all. Kurt Russell's character is basically a parody. Fury Road and Dredd were great too I just don't think its the humor that is making these films so bad.

Then again I liked (not loved) Guardians of the Galaxy un-ironically so that might invalidate my opinion on this board.

Americans and everyone else think virtue signalling a terrorist incident or celebrity death is actually helping when it really isn't. Look at their behaviour when the Paris or London attacks happened. They turn everything into "ME, ME ME! ME!" rather than trying to make their places safer.

Sadly these American attitudes have infected us all.
I remember when the IRA used to bomb us on a regular basis, the stiff upper lip reigned supreme and I don't remember any of this hysteria or virtue signalling. We didn't say that we wouldn't let it affect us, we acted like it hadn't happened.
We were literally pulling the PM (Maggie) out of the rubble and they stopped covering it after a bit to show Grandstand.

I doubt this anything anyone even particularly associates with Maggie in popular memory. She actually changed her clothes before leaving the bombed hotel because she didn't want the British people to see her looking a mess.

The problem is also how everything has also become heavily politicized, can't go anywhere more with some SJW or some other person brandishing how much they love rights for certain individuals. Another example is when Alan Rickman died and Potterfags turned it all about them, the man had done a hell of a lot more movies and had more memorable roles than Snpae but NOPE!

I think the generational system we had is really kind of breaking down. After WWII, everybody settled down with all the money they'd made, bought houses, and boomed out babies. There hasn't really been anywhere near as clear a generation since. Gen X is this kind of blob of "everyone born in the late 60s, 70s" and then people start talking about Millenials. A lot of boomers had Xers as their kids. A lot of boomers had millenials. We started this whole generation thing because birth rates were down, down, down, and then they exploded post war.

The speed of tech change makes it really difficult to group people together. It's difficult to convince people who were super pumped to get a Motorola Razr when they were in college that they're basically the same as somebody who got an iPhone in middle school.

Generational politics are always just old people bitching about young people. They call them lazy because they're bitter about all the work they have to do to take care of their kids only for them to not want to do homework or clean their room or whatever. And they call them entitled because they have access to better technology than the old people did when they were kids.

It's the same for every generation ever. The ones bitching about millenials now were shit on by the previous generation for being lazy and entitled because of the hippies. And back and back it goes straight to ancient greece.

Aren't there tons of tech companies run by millennials now? For example, Zuckerberg is a millennial.
And there are a good number of millennial musicians, actors, artists, etc. Tons of the people producing videogames are on the young side. Sure, there are few in leadership positions in these industries, but that's because the oldest millennials are only 36. They haven't quite taken over the reigns yet.

So they've definitely produced things. Maybe you don't like them, but you can shove that opinion right up your ass you hipster piece of shit.

idk i think we are witnessing society stagnating (soon decaying, if not already), through film. new ideas and genuine effort have nearly stopped and its reflective of the mindset that most people in first world countries share. they have been coddled enough by the easy times that generations before them set. when life gets hard its easier to live in the past, or a time when life was easier. ie how no movies are new ideas anymore, only franchises, remakes, and reboots.

maybe im just thinking too much.

Millennial is a much more marketable name than Gen Y.
Personally I think it makes more sense to keep gen y as a transitory generation between X and Millenials.
Growing up before and after the Ubiquity of PCs snd the internet is a massive distinction. My dad worked for computer companies out of college in the mid 70s, and I was born early 80s. We were the early adopters of computers and the internet (prodigy ftw), so I've witnessed first hand the emergence of the internet and the cultural impact it had. Theres a world of difference between 80s kids and 90s kids that it's just incorrect to lump them together.

Were also on the verge of a paradigm shift in film. The studio system and traditional distribution methods are barely hanging on by the skin of their teeth. They wouldn't be REEEEEEEEing so hard about piracy if they didn't already see the writing on the wall.
Independent studios are able to produce their own content for a fraction of the price and distribute directly to the consumer.
Straight to video movies used to be a pejorative term for low budget schlock, its turning around though that some of my favorite recent movies never had a theatrical release, or if they did it was extremely limited so they can be eligible for awards.

Just remember the sacred chao, anon. The hodge doesn't rise without the podge falling. Everything is under control.

people who are fucking 36 are not millenials
>>
>>82006980
Anyone born in the 80's is a millennial. And 1980 was about 36 years ago. Faggots who bitch about millennials on the internet are usually millennials who don't realize they're insulting themselves.

Close. Early-80s is the early cut-off for Millennials.

I would say 35 is about the oldest Millennials currently are. The youngest being 17.

Also, your latter point is correct; it's hilarious how often those complaining the most about Millennials are Millennials themselves -- and they try and twist and turn what constitutes a Millennial so they're not part of it.
>>
if you aren't a millennial and you are posting on this board that means you are either 36+ years or under 17 and both of these age groups need to fuck off
>>
>>82001261
Now this is the truth about milennials right here
>>
Millennials are just the growing consumerbase. They don't have significant control over what happens in Hollywood.
