Stannis and Edmure have one important thing in common. They give a shit about the people under them. Stannis is all about saving the world, wildlings included, he raised up a smuggler, listens to some foreign whore's counsel, he left a bastard in charge of Storm's End, and he planned to make another bastard a warden of the North. He's meritocratic and it's great, he literally is making new lords just like he said he will. Edmure also gives a shit. He let in a bunch of plebs into his own castle to keep them safe from war, even fed them, risk of a siege or no. Sansan is real, it is canon, but it is also over.

Backwater (in the books) was a beautiful bittersweet ending to the two characters. I'm 100% satisfied with their romance, and that's why its still my favorite ship. Sucks that they didn't touch upon it in the show but I understand with the age gap between the actors it would have been weird.
