Finished up 'Prisoners of the Lake.'
It's funny /who/ ended up discussing the quality of Pertwee's era in the last thread, because this one fits perfectly in the middle. It's not terrible, but it's hardly memorable. It drags a bit towards the end, and the big twist isn't very well fleshed when you learn what it's all about.
The resounding "Eh?" feeling you have at the end of it certainly isn't lessened by the lackluster performances. "Pertwee" fails to ever do a convincing enough job for you to trick yourself into not noticing the differences (not to mention he hits all of his "T's" and "P's" like they insulted his mother) and Katy's showing her age in her voice almost as much as she is in her face.
Not to mention the whole thing just feels like a glorified Companion Chronicle with the constant narration breaks where they really don't need them.

All in all; It never made me mad, but I'll forget about it as soon as I post this.

The best two to start with are probably Reeltime's Downtime and BBV's Auton.

I've only seen his Doctor Who work and I think it's easily the best televised Doctor Who there is. Not all of it, obviously - The Wedding of River Song is one of the worst finales in all of Who - but Capaldi's era in particular is a level of storytelling never achieved before in the show. It starts off pretty shit with Galaxy 4, but The Myth Makers is historical kino. Mission to the Unknown is pretty unusual in that it takes 'Doctor-lite' to the extreme. I don't really think a 12-part episode needs a prequel; they could have worked the exposition into the Dalek's Master Plan itself instead. On that note, DMP is really good. It's probably the best Hartnell Dalek story, not that there's much competition. The Massacre is also a great follow-up that continues the series' themes of death and defeat. It's honestly a bit too adult for Doctor Who though, I doubt kids of the time enjoyed it. Then we get The Savages, which I've admittedly never seen. I've heard it's very underrated though - perhaps /who/ should stream it sometime? I doubt many of you have seen it either, late Season 3 tends to fall through the cracks a lot because so little of it exists, and of course it's coming off the end of a massive Dalek serial that attracts quite a bit of attention. The War Machines is also underrated, it's very modern in terms of pacing and plot. As a Third Doctor story (where it would be more fitting) I would say it's average but it's ahead of its time in 1966. Then we have The Smugglers, which again, I've never seen. I know it's pretty violent though, which is odd as you'd expect the "swashbuckler" story to appeal to kids as much as possible. And everyone here's seen the Tenth Planet so... you know

Easily Hartnell's weakest season, but not bad. Bit of a mess as they were swapping out companions left and right and the ones they introduced weren't as likable as the ones that came before. Also Hartnell's acting really starts to deteriorate in places, although there are some episodes where he's as strong as ever. The Massacre is overrated as fuck and The Gunfighters used to be underrated, but now it seems like it's the serial that's primarily known for being underrated, which might make it justly rated. 1. I'm not really one to judge honestly. I've said before that there's a shakedown period for tripping. A mutual learning curve. The NewWho DVDs, no, although I brought Eccleston's when I was a kid, when they were airing. The blu-rays of S1-S4 look bad and have a changed framerate. The Specials and s5-onward blurays are fine but it's just the episodes and the odd little special feature, nothing special.

The Classic DVDs, fuck yes, they're super well made, absolutely worth every cent. They have fuckloads of special features that are legit well made, offer tonnes of watching options, and even do shit like let you watch episodes as they originally aired, or with modern CGI replacing dodgy older effects (the Kinda DVD is a good example). I don't have loads of Classic DVDs cause I don't earn much $$, but whenever I get one I'm always super happy with it.

I had no idea so many people bought the classic DVDs! It's hard to find them around here, sadly. I also honestly don't know where to start when it comes to purchasing classic!who because there are so many goddamn episodes and DVD releases that are only a couple episodes. Where are the full season releases?

That being said, the North American NuWho DVD releases are gorgeous, they come with so much shit. They include art booklets, the packaging looks really nice, and they come with confidential as well.

I've got the war doctor's, 12,11,10 I think i had 9's on a keychain but I lost it, and 4's from a secret santa one year as well. As far as 8's goes you can probably commission a build online maybe hit up an etsy user or something. There's really not much to them. Alternatively, if you're handy you could always make a thread on >>>/diy/ for some tips or guidance. They're pretty helpful most of the time and I've seen doctor who friendly guidance there before so your powerlevel isn't really an issue.
