People forget that you actually need to have a likable personality in order to be a streamer.
I watch a lot of twitch, mostly go for small/new channels, because those channels tend to have a better balance of gameplay and user interaction.
And in my experience, a lot of new channels simply have boring personalities. They're just regular people mumbling and fumbling into a microphone. Leaving long stretches of dead air, and all the amateurish broadcaster faults. Yet at the end of their stream, they ask for you to follow them. And then you have to awkwardly ignore/deflect their request, because they suck and you don't want to tell them they suck.

Point is, when you watch hundred of boring to mediocre streamers fail to make a carrier out of streaming, then it makes sense why other *do* make it. They're fun to watch, and dynamic, and keep the audience engaged... And yes, there is a bit of audience pandering that's obnoxious, but that's just part of the business.

The people who say "oh it's so easy, all you need to do is set up a camera", don't have what it takes to entertain without the crutches of production.
