I've seen the aftermath of something like this. A few years back going across the Atchafalaya bridge heading west from Baton Rouge. The wreck was going east towards Baton Rouge. The logs slid forward completely destroying the cab of the truck and a few cars ended up sandwiched between the log truck and another truck. It ended up delaying traffic a couple hours on the opposite side (my side) due to rubbernecking. It was horrible.

Yeah, my dad works emergency room trauma and my mom used to do ER as a nurse. There were a couple of cases he told me about involving cars, but the worst one was of a trucker ramming a smaller car, group of teenagers, into the back end of another tractor trailer. I worked for a while in the mill and maybe once or twice a year there were horrific log truck accidents. While it didn't kill anybody, a rig was often destroyed.

The reason why the safety standards aren't met is because the training schools are run by assholes and their goal is to undercut the good schools by charging lower tuition while offering some amenity or service. These people then go on to work for companies that undercut the good companies by offering their trucking services at a lower rate but which cuts corners in ways you often never see. Per local law, every commercial vehicle needs to stop at every inspection site on the highway but the brutal truth is that those people are understaffed and cannot possibly catch everything (nor is it practical to).

Admittedly race has nothing to do with incompetency but it's always the same group of people that fuck up and you can track the fuck ups throughout the chain from when this person is trained to the company they work for to the contracts they get with the mill.

What happens is these immigrants don't speak a word of the local language; they need jobs, and good paying jobs require some sort of education - well they can't go to the (good) schools because they can't speak so they go to the schools that offer the classes in their native language; the tests are performed in the local language but they can often read and write; what they can't do is speak and that's what those schools offer, education in their native language. So they pass, get their certification and then they go to work at a company that speaks their native language. We always have drivers come by the mill who can't even ask for the bathroom. And when these accidents happen they have to get a translator, which is another "service" provided by their workplace.

It's vertically integrated horseshit. But you can't not use them because they more or less are legal slave labor willing to do work nobody else wants to do.

For me it's just incredibly sad hearing this son crying after his mother who just instantly died in front of him out of nowhere, it's heartbreaking and I can't imagine how painful it would be to be in that situation. Gore doesn't do much for me and I guess that's due to desensitization or something, but this does.

I find it weird that there can be people who don't have a reaction to it at all; would you consider yourself an empathetic person? When I first saw it it affected me for days and I didn't even watch it all.
