Kong had fucking John Goodman and John C. Reilly, while GiTS only had terrible Scarjo.

And one thing I wish more people would call out on, is there is a difference between cool looking sets, and creative camera choices. GiTs has a cool looking city, but very generic camera direction. Kong: Skull Island has very basic settings, but over-the-top camera movement to compensate, thus making it a more appealing looking film.

A hollywood movie could never measure up to GitS because it could never have the same fangs when it comes to it's message, execs would never allow it.

I liked this film, but the hardest part of it to swallow is that it's not just a different adaptation of the ideas, but it flies directly in the face of the message of it's source material in favor of feel-good bubblegum proto-philosophy.

Make no mistake, the conclusion of this film is a dickslap to the face of the '95 movie and much, much weaker, but I think the film has merit in other areas; namely it's visuals, lighting, and ideas in how to present the technology. It crafted the world of GitS in live action wondefully, took a step further and brought it's own unique flavor to the city and then ran a boring script though it all.

The film is far from shit, but it doesn't seek out it's own answer so much as it says "you can't handle the potential realities of this world; have some bubblegum bullshit about memories and identity."

Still buying the BD for the setting and visuals.
