Weren't they already gone? 2bhonest I don't blame them for taking it down since BF is something that actually costs money and there's a lot less to an audio outside the script than there is a tv show.

Do you think anyone, except maybe a deaf person, has ever bought the script books and then says "Well, I guess I don't need to buy any of those audios now because I know what happens"?

People buy the audios because they want to hear the original actors doing the parts.

If Big Finish wanted to sell the scripts, I could of course understand them not wanting free scripts as competition. But they only sell a handful of books' worth. For the monthlies, starting a few years ago, they give them away, and for everything else, there is no legal way to get them.

Listening to Dark Eyes 4 at the moment. Up to the 3rd story. Is Ruth Bradley really not in it at all? Just the older actress for Molly? :/ Really sucks. The whole series is named after Molly.

At least the first DE4 story, A Life in the Day, was really great, but it was purely a Liv thing.

Gah :( I liked Dark Eyes 1 the best because it just felt like a strong 4 hour story. Dark Eyes 2 I really liked the format of, but it was more of an idea I thought was cool than a story I actually found super compelling. Dark Eyes 3 was fine, I love the Master and Molly is great but the actual stories were meh.

Is Doom Coalition better or worse? Or the same?

Not that the production and the design wasn't shit, but the script is pretty stupid as well.

Like I don't think a Hollywood budget would make this anything less than ridiculous. Note the cutting to the characters' reactions as they attempt to play it as an actually dramatic scene

New card
What do you think?
>>
>>80994214
Ah, ranking the EDAs as necessary too? Honestly, I think they improved season by season. S4 > S3 > S2 > S1. S4 was when Big Finish finally started to truly capture the feel of the modern show. I only wish that this mojo could have been replicated with the Fourth Doctor Adventures.

I also think that on the whole everything Eighth Doctor is listenable from top to bottom.
>>
>>80994421
I agree, he definitely has the most consistent quality of any of the Doctors at Big Finish. All his stuff is pretty good.

I forgot to rank the Mary Shelley stuff but that's pretty good too.

I wasn't big into the EDAs, I like Lucie, and I really liked season 4, but I just generally was really bored by most of the episodes. It felt like knock-off RTD to me in a bad way.

Yeah the FDAs just...suck.
>>
>>80994002
novels > all
>>
>>80994582
> FDAs
One hour long adventures a la the EDAs with the Fourth Doctor? I'm in. I don't know where they go wrong. Tom Baker is old man but I think by the end of the first season he's got it back as well as his age allows him to. Maybe he is just better suited to longer stories because I quite like the Lost Stories and the Philip Hinchcliffe Presents stuff. Maybe they are too episodic? Maybe their plots would be better served by expansion into 2- disc releases? I just don't know.
>>
>>80994870
>I don't know where they go wrong.

The writing. The performances are fine. It's just the bland as fuck writing.

I also liked Philip Hinchcliffe Presents and The Lost Stories. Doctor Who and the Pescatons is a real old radioplay Tom and Liz Sladen did back in the day, also worth a listen.

Big Finish tend to be best when they can craft their own arcs, like they did for post-trial 6, post-survival 7, all of 8. They stumble a bit more when they can't really do that, or don't want to, with 4 and 5. At least 5 gets some real well-written stories now and again.

I'm happy Tom is doing Big Finish, just wish he was getting better material to play.
>>
>>80995027
Yeah, what makes Big Finish work is that they're not just PDAs with sound. Even when they're not doing an arc with new companions, stuff like Holy Terror or Catch-1782 doesn't feel like a trad PDA.

But the 4DAs, they are just PDAs with sound.
>>
>>80994002
I like Doom Coalition, and most of Divergent Universe is good, while Dark Eyes stall in the middle.

Doom Coalition has its problem, although I'm not sure how many of those are just me not being able to tell voices apart.
>>
>>80988581

Doom Coalition is a lot more consistent than Dark Eyes.
>>

Saw Capaldi's regeneration episode in my dream last night
>>
>>80998668
What happened?
>>
>>80999117
Well, for some reason Clara was there and she was casually talking to another character while the Doctor was on the floor and beginning to regenerate. When Clara noticed she got really upset and started saying "Not with me!" or something like that (because of her line in S9, even though that was about actually dying not just regenerating) and at this point I was feeling pretty sad but also very curious to see who he would turn into and then he stopped regenerating because of some timey-wimey bullshit and got back up.

It was only halfway into the episode and I didn't see the rest

Why hello, asBill. I'm the Doctor.

You sell chips? Interesting thing about "chips". The rest of the civilized world calls them "fries". What I find fascinating about you Brits is your insistance upon calling roasted potatoes "roasters", while you shun calling fried potatoes "fries" using the same logic. Gastronomy and linguistics aren't your fortè, I suppose.

Now, to the important part. There is a forest located deep in the heart of France that has the most magnificent truffles you'll ever taste. The funny thing? My TARDIS refuses to locate them. Turns out she hates mushrooms! I have tried to explain to her that mushrooms and truffles have several fundamental differences, but you know TARDISes. They have terrible taste. I would too if I had to recycle feces, I suppose.

That's why I've summoned you, asBill. Find the truffles, you filthy swine.

Depends what you mean by "show up". I think the only thing that would prevent her from appearing in at least a hallucination or memory is if Jenna had a conflicting schedule. And I wouldn't be that surprised if she came back for real in her own TARDIS and if the Doctor got all his memories back.

Been rewatching Moffat for a few weeks, on and off. Just the bits that I like or haven't rewatched in a while. Came to the Series 8 finale last night, but I couldn't will myself to watch it. It's not that I hate it, but I don't particularly like it, and I've rewatched it in recent memory. Instead I just got into bed and listened to a 5th Doctor audio ("Zaltys", very incredibly good, actually) before falling asleep.
Woke up this morning and rewatched "Blink" for the first time in a long time. I skipped school today because I, frankly, just could not stand the thought of going. I decided out of boredom to watch Dark Water, and now I'm about to watch Death in Heaven. It's not so bad. Dark Water is shit until about 20 minutes in, though. Just been thinking about why it had to be Cybermen. Why couldn't Missy just come up with something else? The Cybermen feel cheaped out from overuse.
>>
>>81010056
Can't imagine why they'd write the Doctor as being suprised if they regenerate into a female since they've had Time Lords regenerate into women before (The Master becoming "Missy")
>>
Doctor Who will be top-viewed TV drama Christmas Day if the Doctor regenerates into a woman. Without any doubts.

Depends on how well Chinball's writes her introduction scene. If it's good, and she's good, they'll want to watch the next episode, at the very least.

After that, depends on too many variables. Promotion, scheduling, whether a 'hate campaign' starts and catches on social media (which is likely considering the 'fandom'). And last but probably least, whether the writing is good.

I think The Doctor would take at least a moment if the next regeneration was female. Way I'd do it though is that she treats as a pleasant surprise rather than a mindblowing experience. She also still finds something to complain about (nose, teeth, ears, something). I'd start her off with a brand new companion. This companion would be a modern day young woman like all the others - The Doctor needs to be consistent regardless of sex. This companion will leave before this Doctor regenerates. They will never know The Doctor as anyone but a woman in much the same way that many companions never know that The Doctor regenerates. When this Doctor regenerates the whole, "you're a woman now," crap we fear instead becomes, "you're a man now," as a reversal of expectations.

She's worked with Chibnall before on Broadchurch s2. Her previous colleague David Tennant admits that working on Doctor Who gave his own career a huge boost. Fleabag S1 was only 6 x 25 minute episodes.

Offered a lead role, working with a critically acclaimed show runner and writer she's worked with before, on a show that is a proven global success?

She would give it serious consideration, at the very least.

I really don't know how to feel about a female Doctor. It would depend entirely on the actress and the writing. Casting someone who's androgynous or masculine would defeat the purpose of a female Doctor though. And I don't think I could stomach the Doctor possibly being sexualised, or the "i'm a strong woman now, look, BOOBS!" shtick every episode.

I imagine a female Doctor under the current writing team would be utterly, utterly insufferable. So if Chibnall does it (and I don't think he will) he better get some new writers. Preferably ones motivated by their urge to tell actual, engaging stories, and not politics.

Some tidbits from the SFX interview with Moffat and Capaldi:

The Doctor is not ranging around in Time and space at the start of the series he has found himself becalmed and trapped and has to take a job as a lecturer because of it.

The Doctor thinks Bill is very clever and thinks she deserves more than she has. And he has to encourage her to believe she is more valuable thank she currently thinks she is.

The series starts off colorful and fun, but halfway turns dark and Bill begins to find the Doctor terrifying.

Capaldi wants his Doctor to go out ''fighting!''.

>Doctor Who will be top-viewed TV drama Christmas Day if the Doctor regenerates into a woman.

The main concern about a female Doctor relies entirely on the writing. Can we really expect the writers to actually be able to write a non-sexually focused woman?

Remember Missy/The Master? The first thing she did as a female was snog The Doctor - and the first thing he did in response to giving him an army was to kiss her

YOU'RE incorrect. The opening with Missy being the Doctor's best pal and fucking Davros and the fucking archive footage that Moffat seems to orgasm over was just DISGUSTING, and is probably the worst series opener in all of nuWho. And the Ashildr plot was just plain stupid. Frankly, series 9 was an embarrassment until the last three episodes, and that even got cocked up a bit. Name one instance where the 3rd Doctor was not working with all of his might to stop the Master's plans.
>>
>>81015332

Who says shes allowed? as far as the Doctor was concerned Missy died in Death in Heaven. He didn't know she had just murdered those Unit agents.

He tried to stop her in Heaven sent and almost shot her dead. He always stops the Master (most of the time)

The Doctor does his best to stop the Master, but at the end of the day, they are friends, and there is no Doctor without the Master and vice versa, they keep things interesting for each other.

You cannot apply human morals and logic to ancient aliens like the Doctor and Master that is what Missy even explains to Clara. These are godlike beings playing an ancient and dangerous game with one another.

And fuck the ''never cruel and cowardly'' shite that started with RTD and should have stayed with RTD. The Doctor is a manipulative thrill seeking being, not a cliche hero.

This isn't an SJW thing, but I think every person who's ever watched Doctor Who could tell you that Stephen Moffat has issues with women.

Name one instance where it was obvious Delgado came to Earth to keep the Doctor entertained by enacting evil plots.

Name one instance where it wasn't obvious they had mutual rival respect for another.

I think it's clear that he likes to be whipped by them and be called a bad boy.

Moffat has a clone fetish, he twice implied the female companions would wanted to have sex with their time doubles (Clara and Amy).
>>
>>81015610

>And fuck the ''never cruel and cowardly'' shite that started with RTD and should have stayed with RTD

Literally only ever said in Moffat Who.

>the Doctor is a manipulative thrill seeking being, not a cliche hero.

Since when do you have to be a manipulative thrill-seeking being in order to not be a cliche hero? There's a dozen ways of being a hero that don't involve being an aspie fuckwit. Did you start watching in Capaldi's first series, or something?
>>
>>81015711
And maybe this. I'd say women making love to themselves is kinda hot.
>>
>>81015691
You need to get off tumblr, and leddit, and go back and watch the entire classics again. Because you clearly do not understand the Master or the Doctor.
>>

Briggs can do the sing song voices fine, so hopefully they keep it.

Do you think as a fandom we could all just refer to series 8 as Doctor House instead of Doctor Who? It feels like that was what they were going for.
>>
>>81015610

What?

Those sing-song voices made it impossible to listen to Spare Parts, if I'm honest.

>People hate the idea of the Master and Doctor being best friends..

Go back and watch Delgado and Pertwee please.

That entire era of the Master was set up so obviously to be reminiscent of your unmoral best mate coming to Earth to keep you occupied because your boring strict parents grounded you.

I like it, as long as the Master is a proper villain, I don't mind the odd Anti-hero moments from time to time. I am not a fan of Missy treating 12 as ''her boyfriend''though, that is stupid and annoying. But I like the best enemies/Best friend angle a lot. Always have since watching the classics.
>>
>>81015744
You're just cherry-picking from Classic episodes to prove your point, though, assuming you're the guy.

The Master and The Doctor weren't friends in Logopolis, and the Doctor didn't seem to respect him at all in that serial. The Holmes/ Moriarty thing in the Pertwee era definitely played up that aspect of the relationship but equally, in the Daemons, the Doctor treats the Master's presence as a catastrophe and responds to "Mister Magister" with horror and outrage.
>>

The Doctor and the Ainley Master did not seem to be friends at all.

Miracle Day was the worst though.

>>81015896
Ian, there is enough evidence in the classics to prove they are friends in whatever form that may be. And there is also enough evidence to prove they are also rivals with a mutual distaste towards one another. So frenemies is the best term we can apply to them. No need to argue over it. How I see it is

>Childhood best friends

>Classic Era once friends who now have a dislike to one another, but also a mutual attraction to one another (not a gay attraction)

Modern Era, starting with Simm still that level of mutual dislike, but he starts to remember their childhood relationship in the End of Time
and when he becomes Missy he/she wants to reestablish it with the Doctor. That's how I see it anyway.
>>
>>81016067
Why?
>>
>>81016095
>But Children Of Earth was the best season.
And the one that burned the bridges towards continuation.
>>
The Master was fine with stealing the Doctor's lives in the movie. Some friend.
>>
>>81014335
>The series starts off colorful and fun, but halfway turns dark and Bill begins to find the Doctor terrifying.

That sounds interesting, I'm pretty sure when Series 10 was first announced they just focused on the fun and lightheartedness. I'm still a little skeptical about Bill but if they handle this well she could be cool.

What are /who/'s expectations of Bill in general anyway, now that the new series is so close?
>>
>>81016130
Turn Left is his actual favorite
>>
>>81016102
There's no need to argue about anything on Doctor Who, it's done for the fun of it. And personally I justify the Doctor and Master's sparring by the Doctor's flawed but fundamental belief in the Master's capacity to reform.
>>
>>81015072
The Woman who Lived should have simply concentrated on Ashildr/ Me's story. Her backstory since Girl who Died, and the effect of an immortal life on someone without the capacity for infinite memories. No silly monsters etc, just a simple character study/ historical drama with a bit of sci-fi.

A brilliant idea (imo) but under-explored.
>>
>>81016194
Honestly, pessimistically, I think she'll be an annoying meme character who's ditziness becomes an irritating, long-running joke that ultimately comes to define the character - like if Donna had acted the way she did in the Runaway Bride for all 13 episodes of Series 4.

That being said, I think she's also the only companion so far Stephen Moffat doesn't wank to, so there's a possibility she'll have some depth or nuance for a change, and won't just be a sassy quippy memester.

What would you guys think of a mini series by the BBC about say Capaldi as a detective and a male actor as another detective teamed with Capaldi to investigate a bunch of strange murders. For most of the mini-series it's all very realistic but in the last episode the twist is both detectives are the Master and Doctor respectively given false memories of human lives and families, and made to become human via the chameleon arch by the Time Lords to track down this dangerous Time Lord, the reason they are made human would because this Time Lord can sense other Time Lords (as can all Time Lords) and bails the moment he senses their presence. Thus they are made human for the Time being. The Master's human self would ironically be the ''good cop'' in the series (due to false memories), while Capaldi would be the rougher more morally flexible cliche cop. It's a messy idea, but one I think would be great if done right, plus it's only a mini-series. Doesn't even have to be Capaldi can be any past Doctor but not the current one, also the Master in this mini-series would be a once off Master as to not make it obvious it's Doctor Who.

>And fuck the ''never cruel and cowardly'' shite that started with RTD and should have stayed with RTD
>Literally only ever said in Moffat Who.

>The Doctor believes in good and fights evil. Though often caught up in violent situations, he is a man of peace. He is never cruel or cowardly.
In fact, to put it simply, the Doctor is a hero. These days there aren't so many of them around.
--Terrance DIcks, The Making of Doctor Who, 1976

It's used about 69105 times in the novels. (More if you count Benny's inversion of it.) Because it's a big question for Seven whether he's never cruel, whether he's still a hero.

(It's also used in the EDAs, by Dicks himself, thinking he was borrowing it from Paul Cornell, because he forgot he wrote it, and missed the point of why Cornell used it.)

So when Moffat created a Doctor struggling over whether he's a good man, and a Doctor who "broke the promise" and didn't deserve the name, of course he did the same thing.
