Listen to Genndy's live interview for SJ that Adult Swim did just before the premiere. He talks about how basically everything you want to do goes through hundreds of people, and any ideas you might have may not even exist in any recognizable form by the time you pitch them to the time you have to execute them.

It's clear that Genndy wasn't in control of the films, and that the producers were dictating what was going to actually happen. He seemed incredibly disenchanted by 3D animation as well, even saying he couldn't grasp what he was seeing on screen and had to imagine it in 2D.

Genndy also said that he is unhappy with the state of Western animation in general. I very much doubt he'll ever go back to films, especially with how hard Sony fucked him.
