Reminder that the Doctor has K9 chained up and muzzled in the basement.

>The Doctor comes in to grab something
>K9 slowly pulls forward, his chain rattling slightly.
>Through a voice muffled by a muzzle, he says
>"Walk, Master?"
>The Doctor says nothing, gets what he needs, and leaves.
>The basement is dark and, for a moment, silent.
>K9 lowers his head, which makes an audible noise
>"Yes, Master.."

What does /who/ think about this guide?
http://eyespider.org.uk/drwho/wh/list.html
I've never watched Classic Who in its entirety, only the First Doctor's era and a couple of things from the Fourth's era (also listened to "Zagreus", "The Light at the End" and "The Beginning").
I'm thinking about exploring the whoniverse in the order presented in that list, instead of just yeah, "just" watching Classic Who and reading/listening to other things afterwards. Might be an interesting experience, since (except for the aforementioned stuff) all the TV episodes will be as new to me as the non-TV materials.
>>
I'm tired of the political correctness in Doctor Who, the Doctor should always be English. It just doesn't seem right that the Doctor is ''Scottish'' it's too distracting and just in my opinion does not seem right. Really hope all future Doctors are English again.

I've suggested in the past that a companion should die or the Doctor should go through some kind of trauma to give a form of consequence to the show and make the audience feel something again. Usually, people tell me that Doctor WHO isn't that kind of show, and should remain fun and family friendly, which I completely disagree with.

I feel as though that the last of the Time Lords arc and the seeming destruction of Gallifrey gave the show a personality and depth, as we saw the Doctor deal with this trauma. It made the charact4r more relatable and often gave him a more anti hero side. Maybe the reason Doctor Who was dying in the first place was partially because it was starting to feel same old same old? I mean, One started the whole thing and was something new, Two brought about the change of appearance, Three dragged the Doctor down to earth as a James Bond kind of figure, Four made him more alien again and was arguably the wackiest yet, then Five started to become a little same old, but almost revived it with Caves of Androzani, which was pretty much because we see him at his most vulnerable yet selfless. Six and Seven don't offer much new in my opinion until season 25, and I think audiences were getting bored of it all anyway.

Then bring in New Who. Suddenly, the Doctor has PTSD. Suddenly, he's lost his home world. Suddenly, he's grounded and pessimistic, and needs fixing. Then we move on to Ten, who's way of moving on from Gallifrey was to treat Earth as his new home and form a connection and obsession with Rose, who was his first real connection following the war. Then there's Eleven, who really is moving on, but still seems to have 'episodes' when brought down to his most vulnerable. He's more comfortable in the stars again.
>>
>>80758995

But then the problem arises. Now, I'm fine with Gallifrey being brought back, though I would have much preferred it to have stayed gone so the show can introduce new threads as opposed to just hitting the restart button. But it could have worked, yet it didn't in my opinion. For me, Eleven finally achieved everything he could want, with Gallifrey being back and him getting another regeneration cycle, so I thought Twelve would go down the logical approach of being uncaring and not needing attachments anymore, and that his arc would be realising that he still does. At times, this shines through, but it feels like he's still written and acted as Eleven, but with most of the darkness gone. He's endlessly wacky and flailing around with a few dark and sad scenes that can sometimes seem out of place, rather than what should be vice versa. Essentially, the show is just a wacky man having adventures in space again with no overall arc or any dark, very human themes that was probably the appeal of the show for most people when it came back with the PTSD Doctor.
>>
>>80759029
Basically, I think we always need something new, that changes the Doctor and has a lasting effect. Because the story a week method has been done to death with the show, and we need an underlying theme. It's NOT wrong to make Doctor Who dark. The generally agreed best stories are when he's at his most vulnerable or darkest and we see parts of him that we don't usually see (take Genesis, Pyramids, Androzani, Parting, Human Nature, Heaven Sent), so making an episode that not only takes it that step further, but does something that creates a lasting effect, is a good idea, at least in my opinion. Say we have the Master doing something to the Doctor that breaks him psychologically and he has to recover, or the Daleks actually kill a companion. Right now we seem to be delving back to the 80s with the general camp feeling and characters like Bill (who's essentially Ace 2.0) and Nardole. This is fine, but it seems too scared to go that one step darker and make us want to cry or punches a wall.

I feel as though that the problem with series 8-9 is the lack of an underlying dark theme that makes viewers want to tune in for the next season. Not that they don't have excellent individual episodes, but that they don't have underlying themes like the past 7 seasons, which may be what drew people back into Doctor who in the first place.

You put this in with the lack of airing consistency at the moment, the fact that the singular/double parter structure changes yearly, and the fact that each season now feels completely different to the last in terms of style and feel since series 5, and I fear that the show could be reaching a second end.

>What does /who/ think about this guide?
That site does a pretty good job of trying to fit everything together, and "pretty good" is good enough, since it's impossible to actually do it "right" given that there are stories that blatantly contradict each other's placement.

But you've got a huge amount of work ahead of you. And it really will feel like work. Reading War of the Daleks was bad enough when you paid £5 for it and weren't getting any other new Who for a month, but when you've still got many hundreds of hours of it just waiting for you (starting with Alien Bodies)? That'll hurt.

I'd do one pass over just the good and/or important stuff (see http://pagefillers.com/dwrg/ for reviews, and the various Discontinuity guides). You can always come back and fill in the gaps afterward if you're still determined to do so.

I'd also break the strict chronological order whenever you get to a long run of nothing but one medium. Alternating Sam books, Charley audios, and Stacy comics isn't going to confuse you or spoil any secrets.

Maybe next? Tom Ellis' name has been mentioned before (and hinted at by BBC's Newsnight).

Almost every NuWho companion dies (or "dies" more like) because the show is written by fanboys who can't comprehend idea of leaving the Doctor on one's own free will.
>>
>>80758995
>I've suggested in the past that a companion should die or the Doctor should go through some kind of trauma
Seriously? I mean, you obviously watched S9 because you talk about the episodes, so… do you think the Doctor going through billions of years of hell over a dead companion was insufficient, and the show needs to be doing more of that? Do you wish Rory had actually died every week like all the Kenny jokes implied?

Usually when someone posts a long rant saying "The show sucks because it isn't doing X", X is at least something the show doesn't already do way too often.

>The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long, and you have burned so very very brightly, Nine. Look at you. You're the prodigal son. You're quite a prize!

In-universe, Nine lived about one year, while most of the other Doctors got centuries.

Out-of-universe, he started after PDAs stopped, won't work for Big Finish, and has a story that was intentionally written to leave just enough gaps for a year of comics and NSAs and no more, so the fact that they've managed to cram in a couple audios and a comics miniseries and some flashback scenes is really more than we should have expected, not less.
>>
>>80759505
Just checked Wikipedia, he was born in Wales, but his family moved to Sheffield (S.Yorkshire in the north of England for non-Brit /who/res) when he was a kid. So his 'natural' accent is probably Yorkshire.

Then again, Tom Ellis fits in perfectly with that Richard Burton, Anthony Hopkins, Jonathan Pryce tradition of "Hollywood version of an Englishman", so you could probably count him as a Welsh actor even if he'd never been there...
>>
>>80760101
But everything else says he's recently regenerated in Rose. Even Moffat, after writing Day, said "He's clearly a 'new man'". And The Beast of Babylon, written for the 50th, explicitly says he's just regenerated and hasn't yet "calibrated" his new body, before leading directly into Rose and then running parallel with it.

That line in Day seems more like Moffat intentionally confusing continuity to give fans stupid shit to argue about for fun than an attempt to retcon things and give Nine another century for Big Finish to fill in.
>>
>>80760751
>But everything else says he's recently regenerated in Rose

RTD disagrees.
>>
>>80760101
>>80760751
This is easily resolved by the "it also travels in time" gap.
>>
>>80761194
No, the Doctor's age is really the one thing that doesn't resolve, because the one thing he can't do with his time machine is things like turn himself back to 700 years old and relive the rest of his life and do it all better.

What does resolve it is the answer Moffat gave in multiple interviews: the Doctor has no idea how old he is. When he says "I'm 900 years old", don't take that with a grain of salt or an approximation, take it as a completely meaningless statement.
>>
>>80761403
I'm referring to the bit at the end of Rose where he takes off alone before immediately reappearing. He could have traveled for 100 years in that gap.

>>
>>80760751
my head-canon is what the other anon said, that he's newly regenerated for most of Rose, but then has the 100 year gap at the "It also travels in time" bit
>>
>>80761654
But Beast of Babylon uses up that entire gap, as well (as some other less obvious gaps in Rose).

Of course you could say "that's not canon, there could still be 100 years of stories in there instead, but they won't be canon either", but what would be the point of that?
>>
>>80753556
I am now.

>>80753301
chronological anon here, I've been following along that list for well over a year, I'll tell you right now that it is brutal task, I've burned myself out several times on the books alone.
Also, some of the stuff in there is really bad, shit like the ultimate adventure is so bad I wanted to self harm.

Also, some of the ass pulls that guy does to fit stuff in is ridiculous.
>>
>>80762088
>what would be the point of that?
If you're right in your previous post (assuming I've got the anons right here), Moffat deliberately gave us information that can be interpreted in multiple and possibly-confusing ways, right?

So, for anon, that would be exactly the point. It's not about finding the "right" chronology like that eye-spider site tries to do, it's about picking a head-canon that works for you. If you don't like Beast of Babylon, or just haven't read it, and you want to imagine a different story covering the same time, maybe nobody will ever write that story and publish it professionally, but who cares? (Moffat doesn't, right?)
>>
>>80760751
But 9 references an adventure before Rose in End Of The World.
>>
>>80762873
Sure, and there's also Clive's pictures and the WhoIsTheDoctor website sightings, and the unspecified other things he took care of during his Nestene investigation during Beast of Babylon.

But the question is whether we're talking about a few days or a whole century. It seems pretty odd that he'd have 100 years of adventures without once looking in the mirror, especially after the episode called our attention to him noticing his new body and the only other published story (except maybe the Churchill one, which I haven't listened to) called our attention to him needing to calibrating his new body, but I guess it's not impossible.

>>80762278
>So, for anon, that would be exactly the point.
OK, I can buy that. If we're talking about why Nine has so few published stories (the original topic), it's a different story, but for just about anything else, sure, anon is as right as I am, and who cares?

it's not new users, just on-season /who/. the reason why /Who/ Ranks Who has such a moffat bias is that it's done during the off-season, when the only people around are fans. normie watchers don't like moffat's era because its not the kind of stuff you can put on in the background while you do the ironing/cooking/etc. that is, there's a bit more engagement required with the plot (e.g. in heaven sent) and the stories are a bit darker

Frankly the end of Series 1 Billie in that tight red early 2000's futuristic Zenon Girl of the 21st Century jacket is prime Billie to me
>>
>>80771894
I think more so in Series 4.

She clearly had some teeth/jaw work done. I was surprised that she apparently claimed it was because they were filming in the cold it sounded like she had a lisp, which doesn't sound true.

Series 2 Billie is prime Billie, though.

>>80771894
She looks like she has a batting helmet fused with her face.
>>
>>80772007
I wouldn't be surprised if she had some work done. Personally I would choose Jenna Coleman to fug over Billie Piper every time

I love both desu. I'd take Jenna as my wife though, and Series 2 Billie as my side piece. Though I'd feel kind of bad for being disloyal to Jenna.

He needs to go bald. I'm surprised Matt Lucas hasn't advised him that any of the times Adam followed him home.

How old is Adam? Could be anywhere between 16 and 40 by the looks of him.

But then what would he do with the hair trimmings he collects every time he breaks into Moffat's barber and steals the sweepings, if not surgically implant them into his own scalp?
