The mission of /lbg/ is to promote the intelligent discussion of film as art by providing members with opportunities for intellectual discussion, by recognizing patrician taste through examinations and by calling out embryos as they arise.

This is such an extremely insignificant cause, why are you obsessed with making this general bad and your own shitting street?

You make these crazy OPs, spam thumbnails, ask inane questions, post little children, goes gaga after people who don't post here in years, archiveposts with no logic, etc. It's a growing crusade for more than a month now, all your fruit of one crazy mind.

But, really, why?

I tend to associate Latin cinema with overthetop crazy melodrama but Cria Cuervos was actually pretty scaled back and genuinely moving, got much better by the middle too, thankfully actual good performances by child actors, thought it would have come further with the civil war commentary though and I slightly prefer spirit of the beehive.

Raw was great fun, even the abrupt twist ending, surprisingly funny in parts too, violent but not as much as I'd expected it to be, it works well as a "beta female goes full alpha predator coming of age" story.

The mission didn't get very good reviews but I think its kind of underated , it builds up well to its conclusion, makes best of its simple backdrop/story and has some nice location shops and decent performances by DeNiro and Irons and I cared for them by the end, even if I feel there's an extra 20 minutes of it somewhere than never made it into the final film.

Dreams, like most anthology/multi story things ends up with some being inevitably better than others, but I was there for the visual immersion/imagination and I got what I came for.

Seeing personal shopper tomorrow and Kong at the weekend.

Silence was disappointing. It does feel like it just skips over a lot of content in the last 15 mins. I don't think the voice overs worked. It's disjointed. And the look of the film was pretty boring too. The central themes about faith and the "silence" of god shines through sometimes and saves it from being completely worthless

https://letterboxd.com/FutureDays/

>>80488204
Faust is good. one of my favorite silent films
>>
>>80497927
I say this to everyone who mentions werckmeister harmonies to me but, I was so visually impressed by it it started influencing me in terms of dreams.
The hospital and whale scenes are breathtaking.
I also saw some of his more accessible work like prefab people and family nest and it scratched my kitchen sink/social realist itch pretty well. I enjoy how depressing his films are. I think Man from London's one of the most immersive noirs around.

What I'm mostly asking with dragon inn, dielmann and satantango, turin horse is should I just run with them, not try to intellectualize them, instead just feel/surrender to them?

At some point I considered watch lily chou chou but decided against it becuse I didn't think I could relate to a film about a bunch of highschool kids.
>>
>>80498071
For the most part I just put it to one side to watch more films instead these past few years.

>>80498193
feel them.
This film with the dozens of long takes of people walking all the way to the horizon don't demand any grand cognition. The story itself is told like most normal films, only it's depiction of life is far more realistic than those.

Peter Kubelka is actually a really interesting structuralist filmmaker. His thing is that he's very conscious of shot lengths. Not a single frame goes to waste in his films.

If you like Baillie, I'd recommend watching something by Lawrence "Larry" Jordan. Preferably his live action works like Water Light, Triptych in Four Parts, and Visions of a City. They're very vibrant and colorful.
>>
>>80503149
I don't doubt that Kabelka is very meticulous or deliberate, but Arnulf Rainer didn't really add up to much in my opinion.

Thanks for those recs though, I'll check them out.

Can't say I know too many.
Angelidi's previous film Oi ores, as you would imagine, is quite similar. In it, rather than alternating between different concurrent realities, she explores the life of a single character at different ages in a non linear fashion. It's a more conventional narrative than her other films, but still done in her unique style.

I sometimes compare Angelidi to Peter Greenaway. Aesthetically speaking they're alike when he isn't doing that picture in picture thing that he does every other film. Prospero’s Books and The Baby of Macon maybe.
