How do you know what to watch next /lbg/?
Do you watch something you think you might enjoy?
The movie everyone is talking about so you can know about it and probably discuss it?
Or whatever crosses your path because you don't want to prejudice a movie before seeing it? and in case it is shit you can appreciate better the good kinos
https://letterboxd.com/cinebro/list/2010s-the-pantheon/
>Part of a work in progress trying to categorize the films of the decade.
>Films in the Pantheon are those that are instantly worthy of the canon. They're classics in the making, either a result of aesthetic perfection, social relevancy, importance, and/or a noteworthy film by a noteworthy director.
>Being that we are still in this decade, there will be recency bias, and some films might be pushed out of the pantheon if they do not survive the ravages of time. Regardless, all of these are at their very core great films

>>80115207
a good script can be made into a bad film
I keep reading that filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson, and Christopher Nolan argue that film projection is the best way to present a film. PTA shot The Master in 70mm and argues that it is best presented on it as well. However, films today, including theirs, are edited through a digital intermediate. This makes the final project a digital file. At that point, wouldn't digital presentation be the best method, considering that printing a reel of film, even on 70mm, would only detract from the overall quality of the image? It just seems like a silly double standard to me.
>>80113957
But, anon, I do have a patrician gf who lets me finger her while we watch art house movies
>>80115589
First it's not true, second yes, they're better together, but that's the thing, the best of one can only exist with the other.
>Synt was 10 when I discovered 4chen
>>80115348
That doesn't make sense when I've seen a large portion of Charles Lang's filmography and his techniques are taken from film to film. Even in the early 30's, he shot movies up close and personal with subtle sways and movements that circle his objects and end on certain visual cues. Anytime I've seen a movie shot by him, it became his movie, and I wager he was far ahead of any of his peers. Watch some of his 30's movies and you'll swear they were shot recently.
>>80113555
So I always see these threads but I have no idea what letterbox actually is. Someone care to give me a quick rundown?
>>80115595
But if a good movie was made, that doesn't mean the director wrote the script.
>>80115741
>>80115682
How old is Synt then?
>>80115764
That's besides the point. The director has more control over the final product.
In a situation where you're with a small group of people like the IRC, talking for months and gradually getting closer, do you honestly think Amaranth should have lied about being a grill in order to try to avoid shitposting?
As far as I know, anyone only found out she was a grill when she posted a pic, which everyone else in the IRC also did. Her not participating would have alienated her. She has never responded/acknowledged anything regarding her gender in threads or otherwise and it's not obvious from her writing she's a girl.
She probably knew her pictures could be leaked. None of the other IRC pictures were reposted though, and she probably trusted the people she'd been talking to a while. They just all assumed she was a guy until then. I don't know if you get it but it must be really alienating to have to keep something like that to yourself and dodge questions about things, especially if you're getting close to a group and talk to them a lot. It's lying by omission. I guess she thought it was worth saving relations with the IRC people even at the possible cost.
It's pathetic that having to worry so much about her being female is even necessary. It's not like she's the I'M A GRILL PAY ATTENTION TO ME :3 type. She seems embarrassed to be a woman if anything.
Tits or GTFO applies when a grill is trying to get attention for being female, but Amaranth obviously doesn't want that. She has no pictures on any of the accounts she has, which aren't many, even though you get lots more attention for being female there. Example: her tumblr. No pictures, even though you're rewarded with lots of attention and flattery for pictures there.
Overall, it's weird that this has come so far since she seems so private and intent on staying unnoticed. It's not like she's a camwhore like Rose that begs for this shit and thrives off of it. She's just someone who loves movies that happens to be female and she gets shit all over for that.
I feel incredibly bad for her.
>>80115849
>She probably knew her pictures could be leaked
>It's not like she's the I'M A GRILL PAY ATTENTION TO ME :3 type
oh she totally knew. she's an attention whore like the rest of them.

Yes, very true. Private trackers are retardedly designed to privilege seedbox kids. That being natural, all the ratio thing is pure bullshit. The seedboxs could make it all alive for everyone without limiting people to just download a little to not get banned. Like on kg, where most have to wait for the freeleech to download things.

Working my way through the highest rated films on Letterboxd (2010s in particular).
Mommy was a pleasant surprise, absolutely loved it despite thinking I was going to hate it.
Just finished Horace and Pete, watched the entire season over the last two days, absolutely great. Episode 3 was probably the weakest, even though I applaud the writing and acting as an entire episode of essentially just one person talking and another (and the viewers) quietly listening for 45 minutes is quite a feat, and even the weakest point in the series is still a fabulous watch.
Another item I thought I'd hate, mostly because of his fans and the overblown praise it's gotten, but it's absolutely deserved.

Tsar, what did you think of "White Dove"?
I thought it was an nice little tale about innocence, and childhood.
It felt a lot more new wave than the other Vláčil films I've seen, but that made it more memorable for me.
It had some really impressive shots, too. I just wish my rip was of a better quality.
It was also a lot more dense than I expected, probably on par with "Marketa Lazarová" in terms of penetrability.
Now, why would you copypaste a useless post like that?
>>80128813
Not him, but if you liked 'White Dove,' I'd reccomend 'The Little Shepherd Boy from the Valley.' Hard to find, but it's excellent magic realism and involves similar themes.
>>80128866
That nigga is probably dead, he can't hear you
>>80128866
Thanks for the recommendation, pal.
How's the soundtrack for that? I notice it was just after Zdeněk Liška had died(or had stopped working shortly before hand), and I absolutely love his pairing with Vláčil.
I've been meaning to allocate a week where I just watch all the Vláčil films I can find. What's your profile?
>>80128934
:^\
>>80128934
The soundtrack is good, but it didn't stand out nearly as much to me as the exquisite pairing that Liška provided. Vláčil's a favourite, though. Marketa Lazarova is absolutely perfect.
I'm http://letterboxd.com/amaranth/. I haven't posted any reviews yet, though, so my profile is somewhat useless. What's yours?
I touched the dog, guys
>>80129025
Liška really was incredible. I wish I could find more rips of his soundtracks.
Oh, I know your account actually. I wasn't sure if you even used Letterboxd anymore, because your profile is very bare.
You should log your films, you seem to have nice taste.Mine is /clippingrose. But you already follow me ;3
>>80129076
I like things occasionally, but I simply haven't written any reviews I'm satisfied with yet.
And of course I followed you, you're the only person that logged anything from Carlos Casas. Absolute favourite contemporary artist. Also loved your commentary on The Fifth Horseman is Fear.
>>80129137
Thanks, pal. I'll be eagerly awaiting the day you post your first review.
>Carlos Casas
I made all the pages for him. My favourite artist currently active, too :3
I stumbled across him by pure chance somewhere around two years ago, and have just loved his stuff ever since. He plays to my sound fetish perfectly.

Finally getting a few things off my queues.
If you liked Mind Games, Cat Soup, Memories and Neo Tokyo then you should check out Genius Party. I'll be checking out the sequel in a few days or so.
F For Fake was great, really great editing that could have failed so hard.

Started story-boarding and putting my short film on paper.
Got some decent shits and camera movements down.
What are some shots and movements to avoid? Can someone explain the 180 rule to me better? And can you edit out the noise of a squeaky dolly in post production?
Im having a hard time coming up with transitional shots. Or showing characters getting from once place or another. Are there any good web sources for this kind of info?
