Really, this shilling is disgusting. Are you what, Letterboxd staff?
This is ranked by who is most overrated, not who is worst. Some of these directors like Park and von Trier have one film I love, but for the most part I am not a fan.
1.Tim Burton
2.Bela Tarr
3. Zack Synder
4. Lars von Trier
5. Alfonso Cuarón
6. Ang Lee
7. Kevin Smith
8. Mel Brooks
9. Sam Raimi
10. Chan Wook-Park
11. Guy Ritchie
12. Baz Lurhman
13. Robert Rodriguez
14. Terry Jones
15. Alejandro González Iñárritu
Honorable Mentions that have some films I really love but are still overrated:
Steven Spielberg
David Cronenberg
David Gordon Green
Christopher Nolan
Feel free to post some directors you believe are incredibly overrated in the comments.

That is some great work as not done in a long time here in the share business. The Fords, most of all.

The point of the barrage of posters is because when I see others' profiles and the films they watched from the 20s and 30s, the majority is foreign films (outside of America).
As for the American films from the time period they do see, they tend to give them anything below 3 stars. I also see a large portion of propaganda on their lists (which isn't art) but I see very little of the American propaganda films that preceded them. So this leads me to ask from the question the "patricians" of /lbg/ on the authenticity of their film knowledge.

When people use the term IMDb core, they usually refer to movies like Inception, Shawshank, TDK Trilogy, Avengers, Forest Gump, The Matrix, Django, etc. If you are going to use the term IMDb core when referring to films that literally almost everyone loves like TWBB, Apocalypse Now , Blade Runner, 2001, Persona, etc, then you are either a bad troll or an idiot.
>I could find a random user Top 100 list on IMDb and it would probably look almost exactly like your list

The etc. of course being almost every film in your Top 100. That's what you're not understanding
>If you are going to use the term IMDb core when referring to films that literally almost everyone loves like TWBB, Apocalypse Now , Blade Runner, 2001, Persona, etc, then you are either a bad troll or an idiot.
Those films ARE IMDb-core you dense faggot. "Films almost everyone loves" is IMDb-core. That's why they are so highly tossed about on IMDb
>Then go do it. I'm not saying I have obscure taste or anything like that, but whenever I see the term IMDb core it is used for the most mainstream of mainstream films that the average person likes.
That's what it means

"Fedoracore" is synonymous with "thing I don't like". It means nothing. IMDb-core has a very specific meaning and you fit rather snugly under the definition

>Suddenly there's underage nudity
>Stop the film, delete torrent and scrub the hard drive
Why the f*ck is this allowed? I don't want to go to prison over some shitty pretentious flick.
>>80145350
Whatever. People wouldn't get upset over your ratings if you would just stick with watching films you're comfortable with (festival romantic comedies and whatever) and stop giving 2½ stars to classic foreign films that everybody else loves when you have no real criticism for them other than you're still not use to watching old films.
>>80145463
>The etc. of course being almost every film in your Top 100. That's what you're not understanding
Which films would that be in your opinion?
>Those films ARE IMDb-core you dense faggot. "Films almost everyone loves" is IMDb-core. That's why they are so highly tossed about on IMDb
Whenever I see the term IMDb core tossed around in other threads, it refers to the overrated films on the top 250 that dont belong there.
>>80145502
I don't find it to be a guilty pleasure. I just think its a genuinely funny movie. Aside from the comedy of it, there is nothing objectively great about it.
>>80145558
>stop giving 2½ stars to classic foreign films that everybody else loves when you have no real criticism for them
Would you rather me lie about my ratings or not try to expand my horizons? Does it upset you that much?
>you're still not use to watching old films.
That's not true though, there are plenty of old films I love, and plenty I don't like. Same goes for recent films.
>DUDE I'M HEALEY LMAO SO COOL XD
>>80145647
You still haven't explained what the difference between "greatest films ever" and "favourites"
>>80145708
greatest films usually excel in the overall production of the film, performances, direction, writing, editing, music, and meaning behind the film
favorites usually connect more on a personal level than anything or has one or two things that you really love that outshines other categories that are mediocre/average/bad
>>80145781
So you ARE one of those faggots who believes that you can rate a film "objectively" and puts stock in the idea of "guilty pleasures", even if you don't use that term outright
>greatest films usually excel in the overall production of the film, performances, direction, writing, editing, music, and meaning behind the film.
You could have a film that excels in all of those areas and still doesn't connect with you. Have you not figured out that rating is subjective?
What is the basis for your ratings?
>>80145781
Full blown babby tier. One day you'll look back on this comment and cringe, just like I and other patricians are doing right now.
>Best films of time??? Citizen Kane, 2001, Seven Samurai... the list could go on!!!
But then again, you said your favorite film was The Big Lebowski, you are new to the medium and clearly a retard. People who differentiate ''best'' lists from ''favorite'' generally haven't been watching film for that long and have no idea what they're talking about, or are just trying to preemptively cover themselves for having pleb tastes.
>"IF THE FILM YOU THINK IS BEST IS DIFFERENT FROM THE FILM YOU LIKE THE MOST, THEN YOU ARE THE EPITOME OF PRETENTIOUSNESS. MAY GOD FORGIVE YOU".
? JEAN LUC GODARD.
>>80144853
>by chance i love chance
confirmed pleb taste in both film and music
>>80145847
>So you ARE one of those faggots who believes that you can rate a film "objectively" and puts stock in the idea of "guilty pleasures", even if you don't use that term outright
I do use the term guilty pleasure, but I use them for movies that are so bad its good IMO like Scooby Doo.
>You could have a film that excels in all of those areas and still doesn't connect with you.
If it didn't connect with me in some sort of way, I'm not going to agree it excels in ALL those areas.
>What is the basis for your ratings?
How much I enjoyed the film.
Look at the portrayal of 1930s Jewish life on dislay here, look at the mid-level tracking camerawork and staccato editing.
Is this an art film?

There should be a schedule for when a new thread can be made.
These threads can't hold up as 24 hour generals.
im new to this letterboxd business, how do i join a film club?
>>80146815
If you already have an account created, follow the tv film club profile at http://letterboxd.com/tv/
Every Friday,or Saturday because Hentai is slow to update, a new list is put up where users vote on 3 out of 10 choices. The lists can be submitted by spamming them here like Lyne did or emailing them to HentaiCop. They're "hosted" by the submitter. They can have themes, sorta.
Anyway none of this really matters because nobody ever discusses shit but even though a small group still watches them. Some pretty great ones have been chosen though. Go to http://letterboxd.com/tv/lists to see this week's list(which has been the worst so far so don't judge the whole film by it) and any previous ones.
The Meaning of Life = The Engine of a Film
I mean shit there couldn't have been some "lesbian porn", it's not like the "gayness" was CRUCIAL to the plot as far as I know. Fuck, like I though there was a lot of cock in The Holy Mountain, but Salo takes it to a whole new level. There was a decent amount of both shit eating and gay porn in the film I could have EASILY done without.
seriously james

How do they watch movies? On a laptop with cheap apple earbuds? They don't have a home theater or surround sound system?
>>80149016
Probably watch them while messaging each other over IRC or some other chat service. And this is how some people regularly watch flicks! Disgusting.
