When it started, /tv/ thought it was pretty great. Then suddenly people started to really like it and reddit especially latched onto it. It was at that point that /tv/ had to disown it - not for being bad, but for being a show that reddit liked.

I used to really like Rick and Morty. Then one day I was on /tv/ and some really cool guys told me about how a lot of people on Reddit also really like it. Haven't watched it since. I also regularly participate in threads dedicated to shitting on it.

One thing that I want to add to this is that in my opinion 4chan seems to have embraced the pleb/patrician paradigm but have distorted the true meaning of patrician since 4chan is particularly susceptible to judgement from others. In the case of what one could consider "reddit" is specially true since any sort of media that could be in anyway be linked to reddit is categorically rejected, mocked and looked down upon even if it was considered acceptable or good before. I didn't really like the show too much at first, when I was watching through the first season I didn't laugh or enjoy it much so I decided to simply drop the show.

However I was pleased to find out it wasn't the show's fault as I simply didn't have the superior humor that the fans of the show did. After being informed numerous times that I was a faggot for not thinking an mediocre show was god's gift. They kept calling me a neckbearded contrarian, and that's when I realized that I was wrong. Granted I didn't watch most of community when it originally aired but I think all of season 1-3 is pretty much flawless. There's not a single episode I don't like. Season 4 was okay and then when Harmon came back season 5 and 6 were great. Season 5 and 6 would probably have been as good if it wasn't for Chevy, Donald and Yvette leaving.

Go to reddit, specifically the comedy-based subreddits. Go watch how they structure jokes and generally interact. Compare how different the people there interact and joke around compared to places like /tv/ and such. Then go and compare that "Reddit" humour, to the humour you see in so-called Reddit shows.

i remember when the first season was ongoing, I showed it to my brother and he laughed but brushed it aside. now that it's mega popular, he doesn't stfu about how funny it is. he even downloaded that stupid pocket morty game.

i can't say i hate the show now because i go back and i still find the comedy to be in good taste. the writing can be really clever and there are some great quotes to be found. i disagree with the sentiment that it goes out of its way to "trigger christfags" and push faithful people's button, but i do acknowledge that people blow the show's quality out of proportion. just gotta keep watching and see if it still appeals to you y'know?

i definitely prefer the vibe of the first season where the show was still finding itself and relying more on rick and morty's goofy adventures, but don't let all of /tv/'s hate against reddit and reddit's huge appraisal of the show ruin it for you. just keep watching it. or don't.
