I've been actively trying get into Letterboxd the last week but I'm not really too satisfied with its service I guess. Guess I'm trying to fill the IMDb-void for talking movies with some casuals.

It's supposed to be a social place for discussing movies, rate movies and gather a bigger insight to movies?

First and foremost: It's not easy to discover new movies and that kind of thing - you can 'follow' people and see what kind of movies they are seeing - I'm I right if I say there's no algoritm to give you new movies based on ratings and watched?

You can make an okay clever watch-list but is this really the main feature for the site?

I spend an entire night rating like 300-400 of my favorite movies then I told myself > what is this good for? For ratings I just go to PTP, Rotten tomatoes and sometimes 4chan... there no depth or part to talk about the movies - and the thousand of playlists for 'shawshank redemption' with no clear structure makes me dizzy... is it really just so normies can make personal playlists?

Will Letterboxd grow on me or should I just forget it?

>>79888772
I think you mean RYM
>>
>>79888895

/tv/ is a fucking awful board full of spam and reposts. Operating under the guise of a television and film forum, /tv/ hosts the most obnoxious assortment of trolls, pedophiles and aspergers sufferers on the internet. Over half the active content at any given time is copypasta and reposts courtesy of some moron and his proxy. Content on /tv/ rarely strays far from rampant homosexuality, Glauworship, 0/10 trolls and daily shitstorms over any film made after 1990. A typical thread normally begins with a blatant troll post that no intelligent person would reply to, and two hours later, the now 200 reply thread will still be bumping on the first page.

/tv/ has a unique cycle of hate and love. When a film comes out /tv/ will spam threads 24/7, worship the actor, spam pictures, and invent fan fiction. However after exactly two weeks, when the general public and critics also love the film, /tv/ will turn their back on said film, and crucify anyone who is still a fan. However this cycle was broken with Avatar, and in this case /tv/ hated the film the moment that the trailer came out.

One of the most depressing facts of /tv/ is that most posters are too addicted to the board to even watch films or television. Instead they choose to while away their lives forcing memes, arguing with trolls and discussing Joss Whedon's latest canceled show. Some of these people even believe they have a chance at making it in the film industry themselves.

Don't bother posting a legitimate opinion about a show or movie on /tv/, as your post will most likely just be bombarded by green text and reaction images.

Yeah, I love films that just suck you into the twilight zone like that. It makes me genuinely curious about the production of it. It's obviously not a straightforward slasher flick, but it doesn't seem like a well-thought out art film either. Can you make an art film accidentally?

Anyways, thanks for the recommendation. Definitely worth the watch.
>>
>>79905531
It's so odd that it feels like there must be at least some intent to it
The DVD has some good interviews etc with people in the cast, it sounds like it wasn't made with any irony or self awareness or anything, at least not that they were aware of.

Like somewhere it talks about how the two workout girls in the locker room initially reacted to the minder (in line with what you would expect to do) but the director shouted at them not to react and just hold their faces. Why?
>>
>>79905794
It's honestly baffling. Most of the "artistic choices" seem to be mistakes at first, but they keep happening, the have to be intentional, right? The film seems to exist in this place in-between horror schlock and boundary-testing experimental film.

The mirror is one of those films where i have absolutely no idea what i think of it. It's the only film i haven't rated. I have actually felt kinda indifferent to all Tarkovsky films i have watched so far. I don't know what my problem is. maybe i just wasn't in the right state of mind when watching them. I usually love slow moving and "hypnotic" films. Think i'll see Solaris sometime this week

can you not be proud of your blackness then, only your African heritage? if whiteness is only a system and tradition of domination and oppression, then blackness is a history of submission and defeat.

my point is not pro-White, but this: you can't go around with this reactionary redefinition and recontextualization without it affecting other closely related concepts.

Night tide looks to my interest.
Still using heart/likes instead of ratings for
shorts an documentaries because I'm not sure how to rate them.
https://letterboxd.com/Shao_liu_ringon/
Seeing the real story of Kon-tiki through the guy's documentary as itself had a much stronger impact than seeing a Norwegian-goes-Hollywood popcorn flick take on it, although the 2012 film was definitely pretty to look at once he got on the boat.

Terje Vigen earns its ending and really picks up after the initial act, but while I thought it was dramatically satisfying, I connected more with his other film phantom carriage, I really wanted it to be longer too, shame its only 50 minutes long.

Friend whose a film student recommended Landscape suicide. Kind of mixed on it, the girl's confession is really effectively depressing and some of the still shots can be absorbing, as was the part mentioning human violence alongside disasters, both actors playing the interviewed killers really disappeared into their roles and became those people.

I'm considering seeing Logan because its being billed as a western, even though I'm not all that into superhero stuff anymore.

I want to get more into documentaries, I've heard Sans soleil is worth watching, but I might need to be in the mood for it.

Been kind of tired and sick lately and started a new job, not as energetic about films the past month.

Classes tous risks has much going for it, its got this combo of detached faux-doc style and neo-real influences visually, Lino Ventura and Jean-Paul Belmondo are good in it. Its got this gritty feel to it but also has some of these heartfelt bits.
Where it goes wrong is that near the end it starts getting too rushed.

Next films on my list to watch are:A polish film called How far, how near, Logan, Sans soleil, Personal shopper is out next week on vod so I might check that out.
