>>
>>79824068

A traditional pompous humourless moustache-twirler who listens to classical music etc. would look like a dated parody of a supervillain and would bore modern viewers. RTD knew that and so does Moffat.

>>
>>79824363
The Master has *always* been a dated parody of a supervillain. That's kind of the point of him.

Professor Yana was there to appease the classic fanboys, and RTD's subsequent version worked for a modern audience, mainly because of how he paralleled 10 in terms of age, quirkiness etc. This is always something that's been consistent with the Master, he's always paralleled the Doctor in some way. Delgado was a Bond villain, as 3 was a James Bond Doctor. 8 had a fancy dress costume, the Roberts Master was an absurd parody of a parody. Tennant and Simm both wore suits and were young/quirky.

Missy doesn't parallel Capaldi at all. She's a good character, but there is literally no point in her being the Master. In my opinion she exists only as a gimmick. She rarely adds to the story, and is only ever there to make clever quips. Oh, and this thing Moffat has going on about the Doctor and the Master being 'friends' is taken way too far. There's some truth to it, but the Master has always been more of an enemy than a friend.

If they have a new Master, it should reflect the new Doctor. If they cast a 20+ year old as the Doctor, then don't do a new Master as it would be teeny-bop trash.

They should just make the Master a menace again, a presence. As I said, Missy is good, but they should think of an actual story for her that isn't just "look how wacky I am. Oh btw I'm a woman now lol".
>>
>>79825144
>Oh, and this thing Moffat has going on about the Doctor and the Master being 'friends' is taken way too far. There's some truth to it, but the Master has always been more of an enemy than a friend.

>MASTER: I don't know what I'd be without that noise.
>DOCTOR: I wonder what I'd be, without you.

They've always been frenemies.
>>
I'll ask again. What are the best Ice Warrior big finish audios?
>>
>>79825315
None actually. Big Finish is a bad company who make mediocre audios purely preying on nostalgia. Their stories get repetitive after you've listened to a few and make you wonder if they should've had a Big Finish many years ago.

Yup, but the Master has always been a threat to the Doctor in literally every story pre-Dark Water.

Whenever Missy's on screen, she doesn't have a threatening presence. You just know she's going to say a few witty lines, act a bit mad, and maybe zap an extra.

You'd never see Missy fight the Doctor with a sword, or age him and lock him in a cage. So far, all she's done is kill some side characters and control a few cybermen with a bracelet.

Holy cow. One of my ideas for a Shit Trips story was about people who pirate "Fig Binish" audios getting killed by a mysterious alien. It was gonna be a parody thing, with the Sixth Doctor and Mel getting tangled up with the actual DW actors. The title was going to be "We Love Stories."

Frankly, I'm happy to see some variety in the Doctor's costumes. Most of the classic Doctors wear widely variant clothes, but 10 and 11 have slightly similar styles of dress. 12 returns the variety.

(Nine looks different as well, but 10 and 11 threatened to create a pattern.)

Also: No bad Alabama accents. No nonsensical US politics subplot. No pointless waste of the Brig.

No idea how he managed to ruin his own story so badly when adapting it for Big Finish. If they'd just redone the original story with Eight & Charley instead of Briggs & Ria, and with better production values, it could have been pretty solid.

>What are the best Ice Warrior big finish audios?
Honestly, none of them are among BF's best, and most of them are tied up in continuity with other things. But here goes…

Deimos/Resurrection of Mars is probably the best one.

Thin Ice is decent, and considering that they may have an episode with the same title and a different episode with a similar plot this year, you might as well check it out so you can complain more effectively if the TV eps suck.

Frozen Time is a good sequel to Endurance, but mediocre on its own. And it seems like Briggs really wanted to write for 2/Zoe/Jamie instead of 7-solo here.

Bride of Peladon: Good end to Erimem's story, otherwise… Did you really love the Peladon TV stories but wanted a longer shopping list of aliens?

Judgment of Isskar: Good for Ice Warriors lore. Also full of continuity for Key2Time and Graceless. As for the story… so bland I can't actually remember anything.

Red Dawn: Boring as hell, and Peri is annoying in the pre-Erimem days.

Mission to Magnus: Simultaneously the JNT-est and Saward-est of all the Lost Stories, while also being boring. I suppose /pol/acks might like it for its "the MRAs were right" subplot, but even they'd probably think it's annoyingly simplistic and only enjoy it because they imagine SJWs will hate it.

I haven't listened to the Zoe/Jamie CC origin-story one, and I kind of want to. I also missed the two (I think?) Benny stories, and the Peladon CC, and maybe some others along the way.

>Best Cybermen Big Finish stories?
Again, a lot of the better ones are tied up in continuity with bigger things, but here's some that should work alone:

The Harvest: Slightly disappointing ending, but everything else is brilliant.

The Silver Turk: Mary Shelley's Spare Parts.

The Reaping: Maybe not an amazing use of the Cybermen, but the best Six/Peri character story.

Real Time: Well-used Cybermen, a timey-wimey plot that mostly works, and a great story for Evelyn if you like her but don't follow BF enough to care that it completely breaks her continuity.

Human Resources: A bit more continuity-heavy than the others, but worth it anyway.

The Gathering: Not brilliant, but it goes with The Reaping and The Harvest, so you may want it for the hat trick.
>>
>>79831217

None actually. Big Finish is a bad company who make mediocre audios purely preying on nostalgia. Their stories get repetitive after you've listened to a few and make you wonder if they should've had a Big Finish many years ago.
>>
>>79831379

>I don't think we get the idea
I don't think Big Finish get the idea that story telling relies on new and creative ideas as they churn out Dark Eyes 47. I will stop from posting the same thing over and over again but rest assured that Big Finish won't.
>>
>>79832363
>Can you go into them without listening to any other 8th Doctor audios?
Silver Turk: Definitely. But then Mary's Story is only half an hour, and very good, so you might as well get Company of Friends and listen to that first. There are references to Gemma & Samson, but this story doesn't expect you to remember anything about them that it doesn't tell you.

Human Resources: Maybe. It's a much tighter fit into Lucie's arc than Turk is into Mary's, but I think you'll be OK without the rest of it.
>>
>>79832309
>Big Finish is a bad company who make mediocre audios purely preying on nostalgia. Their stories get repetitive after you've listened to a few and make you wonder if they should've had a Big Finish many years ago.

>>
>>79833135
>even Human Resources only resolves an arc that NuWho level arc words.
Yeah, now that I think about it, you're completely right. If anon plans to listen to the whole season he shouldn't do Human Resources first, but otherwise, no reason at all not to listen to it on its own.
>>
>>79833067
I think BF is still putting out good stuff, it's just that they're burying it in 10x as much pointless, mediocre stuff as they did a decade ago, so it's harder to find the good ones.

And having a zillion separate lines is kinda helpful—one 4DA, and skimming reviews of the rest, was enough for me to realize I can skip all the rest of the 4DAs.
>>
Watch Mummy on the Orient Express followed by The Girl Who Died. Then tell me with a straight face that Peter Capaldi is playing the same character in those episodes.
>>

Smart. Destination: Nerva made me want to dig out my turntable and listen to Pescatons instead, but I still bought the rest of series 1. Haven't listened to most of them yet (5 years now?), but they got my money anyway.

Capaldi said 15 April. He's probably right, but the later BBC press release only says "April", so he could be up to two weeks off. Moffat, when asked to confirm the date, said it already started 25 December 2016, how did you miss that, because Moffat loves trolling the fans.

Not trolling, just pointing out that even if you want to be as anal as TDC or Wikipedia and not accept anything lesser than an official press release, it still can't be more than two weeks off 15 April, and definitely not 25 Jun.
>>
>>79834821
I'm a different anon and while I don't necessarily feel that Capaldi is playing a different character in those two stories, I do feel that that story is fucking terrible and probably one of the worst things that Doctor Who has ever produced. MOtOE, on the other hand, is one of Capaldi's finest moments, and a beautiful gem of Doctor Who. I, too, will never rewatch the Ashildr story, and really, really hate her character.

>>

>what is development
Mummy was druring the "am I a good man" arc and he was still figuring out who he was. He loosened up after death in heaven and seeing the face triggered the pompeii memory which made him want to save ashildr. Besides, he insulted the vikings most of the episode and wasn't even going to save them, he tried to get Clara to leave because he thought there was no chance of them winning.

watch the show.

I'm not sure what the point is in replying when you obviously don't know how to read, but on the off chance that you do know how to read and are just trying to start a fight because you're bored: TDC and Wikipedia won't accept that teaser as official confirmation until someone finds a "reliable secondary source" that quotes the teaser. But they both still accept that it's April, based on the other evidence. So there's no way it could be 25 June no matter how anal you are.

Reasons the Doctor can't be a woman:

1. A woman would travel time & space trying to get laid with an alpha man's sperm (Hitler) without regard for the consequences.

2. Changing a character's gender is revisionist and disrespectful to a creator's intention.

3. Any companion character would instantly become a cuck watching the doctor spend time with other men (or women).

4. If sex really didn't matter, the Doctor could just stay a male for the sake of it. A female doctor is feminist propaganda

5. Ghost Clara already is the female traveler with a lesbian companion and that was good enough.

6. Dax on Star Trek already did the transgender thing and nobody gave a shit. So its not a good idea.

7. Lack of actresses that could play an alien without giving me an erection instead. Its distracting.

A sudden major change in personality, which actually happened between the Series 9 "prequels", is not character development. Other Doctors have had arcs too and non have changed as much or as fast as 12. He is a soppy goofall in TGWD, the polar opposite of the cold manipulative scientist he is in Mummy.

>>79838036

He was wonderfully grumpy in Last Christmas, minus the cringeworthy sleigh ride. Also he was hilariously rude and sarcastic to Ohila in the Magician's Apprentice "prequel". But ever since The Doctor's Meditation onward (apart from the Series 9 three-part finale) he's been written more or less like Matt Smith and it really doesn't suit Capaldi. A great actor wasted on shitty characterisation.
