I'm hoping at some point during the episode, Bill says "This is like something out of the Nightshade movie." Because then we'll know that Chibs has not invited Gatiss back. After all, there's no way he'd pass up his possibly last chance ever to squeeze in his fave bit of personal fan fiction for TV the way he did in the BBV audios, the novels, the audios, and the comics.

Doctor who is fucking garbage.
It can tell any story in all of time and space and it always ends up a shitty looking celebration of mediocrity.
It's a predictable, safe formulaic children's show where the Le wacky man saves the day with some 'witty' banter and a 'clever' scheme.
The Doctor never goes anywhere in his development, just going from dark to light or dark to light depending on the incarnation.
It has no love for science or history, it just boils everything down for lowest common denominator. It's a waste of time and effort,
why don't you losers mature and watch some grown up television for a change.
You shouldn't watch doctor who unless it's with your own children but I really don't want you plebs procreating.

Smith worked because he was so different to what 'The Doctor' is perceived to be. Same with Eccleston, Tennant and all the other successful Doctors. Capaldi is a great actor but he's a typical 'Doctor' if you get what I mean. i.e, it's been done before

Early 2000s comics. In case you think RTD and Moffat only stole from Lawrence Miles, here's the story:

After his first resurrection and sort of death, the Master somehow got resurrected and came back as a homeless guy in England.

Meanwhile, the Doctor had accidentally made immortal, who eventually became bitter over that.

The two of them teamed up to take over this future church the Doctor who had access to time travel tech, and used it to tamper with the Doctor's history.

But it turned out that the Master and the Doctor wasn't the big showdown after all, it was their two companions who were the most important people ever.

Also, that companion of the Doctor's wasn't a Cyberman head, but it was a complete Cyberman.

Meanwhile, over in Big Finish Land…

There's at least 5 more Masters between Roberts and Jacobi, but not all of them have pics (because at least 2 of them were only in novels).

I agree, and the show producers gave into that and ruined a great Doctor.
I wouldn't have minded if they mellowed him properly and over time - and I don't want him to be dark all the time - but the characterization 'arc' they gave him was shit.

But I strangely like the hoodie costumes, and think I prefer them over his sharp look. They're very Doctor-ish

Curse is real enough for me. If we can fit The Invasion of Time into the same continuity as The Deadly Assassin, anything is possible. And besides, once you go down the road of trying to fit all the stories into one consistent linear timeline and throwing out the ones that don't fit, you might as well be Gary Russell in a slap-fight with Ian Levine or the guys who edit the TARDIS Data Core (assuming that's not just Gary under a bunch of pseudonyms).

>I'm still wondering why Paul Cornell didn't write another episode.
Wasn't he trying to move to Hollywood at the time to run a US remake of Casualty…or Doctors or one of the other ones?

But maybe he wanted to go out on a high note, and not risk Shadows-of-Avalon-ing his rep again. Or maybe he just didn't want to work with RTD again after being forced to do five total rewrites and then having his script rewritten again anyway.

I'd like to see him come back under Chibs.

And maybe even give his wife a try. Council of Nicaea was a great story for Erimem.

Another adaptation?

Most of his novels probably wouldn't work, and his best short stories are either Moffat timey-wimey or continuity in-jokes, but Goth Opera would definitely work on TV, and I think Bill could do the Nyssa part. Or Love and War, if they want to go ambitious big feels again like Human Nature.

Let me guess. You guys also think trump is evil and will send people to camps, that all refugees belong in Europe, that the minimum wage should be raised to $15 despite also wanting to open up the borders and send in people willing to work for 1/10th that, and that he highest rated comments on Reddit and very philosophical and uplifting right?

Simm being the master was leaked I think. But I was pretty young at the time, around 10 or 11, so didn't browse any of the forums. I'd seen some Pertwee stories so knew who the Master was, and when Jacobi said "I... am.... the Master", I just about pissed my pants.

God bless America. Oh, and I like Doctor Who.
>>
>>79499927
Holy shit, what if Moffat is actually reusing his Curse of Fatal Death storyline?

In that, the Master - who gets breasts - teams up with the Daleks (Missy/Witch's Familiar) and gets repeatedly sent back in time, and eventually returns to the present day totally ancient (Missy/upcoming Weeping Angel episode?) She might return in the finale as an old woman and regenerate.

But also in Curse of Fatal Death, it ends with the Doctor turning into a woman.

Yes, he was smart to wait until Four before showing up. Otherwise…

>Doctor: Do I have the right? Simply touch one wire against the other and that's it. The Daleks cease to exist. Hundreds of millions of people, thousands of generations can live without fear, in peace, and never even know the word Dalek.
>Zoe: Then why wait? If it was a disease or some sort of bacteria you were destroying, you wouldn't hesitate.
>Doctor: But I kill, wipe out a whole intelligent lifeform, and meanwhile, poor Jamie hasn't gotten to do anything but run around in a skirt and look pretty.
>Zoe: Oh, you're right! It really wouldn't be fair.
>Doctor: Jamie, come here. Yes, right here. Now you touch these two wires together, just like this.
>Jamie: Do I get ta shout anything while I do it?
>Doctor: If you must.
>Jamie: Creag an tuire!
>Zoe: Good job, Jamie! You used technology!
>Jaime: Thanks! Hey, wait a second, are you making fun of me?
>Doctor: Now, now, kids, we need to make sure all the Daleks are really dead.
>Zoe: And don't forget Davros. If he survived, he'll just make more of them.

No, Doctor Who only does crappy allegories about politics that matter, not crappy allegories about some woman who posted a stupid YouTube video that nobody but her 15 Tumblr friends and 85 /pol/ enemies even watched.

Of course Doctor Who is stupid. All TV is stupid. All popular culture is stupid. The only difference is that we're fans of something we know is a stupid fantasy, while you think your stupid fantasy is Real Important Issues.

That, and we don't come on your threads and babble about Doctor Who where it isn't relevant.

Seeing as how Christmas will be his last episode Moffat may as well go all-out and balls to the wall to make a story he'll be remembered for. How about this:

Missy enacts an ingenious coup on Gallifrey, killing the High Council and becoming Supreme President. The Doctor, Bill and a ragtag band of his former Time War comrades lead the peasant Gallifreyan population in mostly non-lethal guerilla warfare (lasting months or years) against Missy and her corrupt Time Lord supporters and the official Time Lord army. Missy is of course eventually defeated but kills Bill and fatally wounds the Doctor before escaping.

But don't think that means mommy and daddy don't still love you very much. Of course we love you. If someone kidnapped you, we'd spend days and days, well at least a couple days, looking for you before giving up and going back to our careers as a nurse and a model and occasionally asking our friend with the time machine if he'd seen you around somewhere. And if you ended up being a 7-year-old runaway orphan dying in a Manhattan alley, of course we couldn't do anything about it, but we would write a short story about it, because that's how much we love you.

I just read an article which contained the following two sentences:

>Doctor Who audiences are not as shallow as some people seem to believe.
>Capaldi, undoubtedly a fine actor, is too old for a modern Who audience

What did the writer mean by this?
>>
>>79503904
If he wrote himself into the story, it would be just like that Lucarotti DWM comic where Lucarotti accidentally wanders into a fictional inn and meets the First Doctor.

When that comic came out (early 90s?), Moffat raved about it and told everyone it was the only time in history anyone had ever done the "author puts himself in the story" successfully. (Until someone said "What about Zelazny in Amber", and he mumbled and changed the subject, but forget about that part.)

I doubt he'll do it, but if he stuck around a few more years, it would probably become irresistible for him to become the second person ever to pull it off.

And the Doctor would definitely ask him about Fatal Death.

Lucky Rory.

Hold on! Hold on! You may think you've defeated me, but that was only a brrrrrilliant decoy! And that prrrrize you just accepted? That's a decoy too. And it's filled with deadly rrrrradiation. Which will kill you in twelve… eleven… ten seconds, leaving me the sole survivor! The rrrreal trophy is rrrright here, as you can see from the fact that mine doesn't have a false bottom. Oh bugger, it does. I forgot, I'm not dealing with anyone as simple and naive as Davros, am I. Well, congrrrrrratulations.

What about a companion deathmatch? Martha would smother Amy with a her big round ass and I would be masturbating in the corner.

Ace and Leela team up to wreck everyone's collective shop. Peri dies first, follower by Susan. Mel makes it about halfway through only because she can outrun most of them.

Nah, right off the bat, Mel tries her scream, and almost everyone freezes solid—but VIctoria just laughs and says, "You call that a scream?" and screams her to death like a seaweed monster.

Zoe's scream from the first episode of the Mind Robber echoes as she's throttled to death by one of Romana I's boas

Wait a second, are there two Romanas here, or one? And if two, would they team up, or kill each other first? And one K-9, two, or all four? And what happens when Romana I and Romana II both try to give K-9 II conflicting orders?

Meanwhile, is Sara Kingdom stuck outside arguing that she really is a companion and should be allowed to fight, while Adam Mitchell is making the opposite argument to get out?

I would have been absolutely satisfied if the fiftieth anniversary special was just a huge companion deathmatch that answered these questions and more.

2-1 odds say Dodo drowns in Sara's and Adric's ashes suddenly in the third round

Does "Creag an Tuire!" actually mean anything? The only results for it on Google are Jamie quotes.

pretty weird how S10 actually starts soon

>Creag an Tuire
I think it means something like "Tower Rock", but it's basically made up by accident.

"Creag an Tuirc" is a real battle cry, used by Clan MacLaren, because the hill of that name (somewhere near Stirling) was the place where the clan's founder legendarily first rallied his men.

If I remember right (Frazer Hines talks about it on one of the DVD extras), the script for The Highlanders just had "Jamie YELLS and charges", but he decided a real-life MacLaren battle cry would be cooler, and he'd just seen a movie about the MacLarens vs. the MacGregors, so he ad libbed it.

And then people started telling him he'd got it wrong, and he got embarrassed, so he came up with his own bit of fanwank to explain it. McCrimmon isn't just a last name, it's actually a separate clan only loosely affiliatd with MacLaren. And they have their own rock nearby, and their own battle cry based on that rock. He never got any of the writers to put all of that in an episode, but he did get them to mention "Clan MacCrimmon" a couple times, and to let him yell "Creag an Tuire" again in his last episode.

What if the 50th was just the self-appointed leaders of fandom having a death match to decide who counts as a companion for the companion death match?

My money is on Gary Russell, because most of the competition would be coming up with traps on the same level as the pirates and whatnot that used to harry the Famous Five.

It's really cool that he put that much thought into it.

Think it also turns up in that little run of "older-Jamie with Six" audios a few times

It's funny how, at least before JNT, it seems like the actors put a lot more thought into continuity than the writers or producers. Starting with the famous bit about Hartnell wanting someone to tell him what each switch on the console does because the kids will be confused if he opens the doors with the launch lever.
