I'm pretty impressed that /tv/ seems to collectively like this one. Gives me hope for you guys.

Pretty much flawless really
Can't really imagine someone not liking it, or any reasons for them not to
>>
>>79434168
One of the best this year no doubt. Too bad it's too understated to catch a wider audience, plus the whole "Casey might have stalked two women" thing. Probably one of my favourite portrayals of grief that I have ever seen on film.
>>
>>79433605
PLEASE
>>
>>79433757
It already gets posted on here all the time without being tagged. And it's not really a spoiler, just spoils a minor scene that has no impact on the rest of the movie.

Williams deserved the nomination 2bh, even if she was only in the movie for 5 minutes. She was actually believable in a way I've rarely seen women or even men acting in really emotional scenes

It's a brilliantly acted drama, there's not much plot to explain that you shouldn't just experience directly. It's about a man and how he deals with grief, present and past.
>>
>>79433537
Oh boy it's a "Thread about an actual good movie gets ignored on the television and film board" episode.

Okay, here's a question? What did everyone think about the ending? Is it what you expected?

A lot more hopeful than i imagined, I can see lee getting some healing down the road but of course nowhere near enough to return to his former cheerful self.

>>79434921
>spoiler

The kid didn't say the second part, only the first part. He is a typical self-absorbed kid whose life is on the line at the moment and lee is an authority figure who is in charge of him so he tries to establish his position as strongly as he can from his powerless perspective. So basically they will visit each-other, the kid for now just wants another life for himself, and he still has like two years of highschool so he may as well decide on college.

ctrl+f'd through the script to see if I'd missed any other references to Jerry, Sue or Walt and found nothing.
Maybe on a second watch I'll pick some hints up.

Could just be that people don't want to be around him because he killed his kids. Or maybe as a result of his behaviour following the incident.

>>79435691
>>79435962
>>79436031
>>79436059

His ex-wife sort of explains this when she finally apologizes to him - she said horrible, unforgivable things to and about him. She likely said them to other people in town, so his reputation is pretty much shot. Even people who think he's innocent (the detective who later becomes a vice principal) view him with skepticism. Remember that the nephew's friends on the hockey team have to tell the coach that the stories about Lee are bullshit. A lot of people probably think he killed his family, or that he was a drunk who couldn't care either way. Lee's hostile attitude and soft spokenness probably don't help the situation.

Small town rumor mills are pretty horrific. I can only imagine what it's like for someone in his position.

The one thing about the movie that was not believable to me was that the brother would marry such a fucked up woman in the first place. I mean, what exactly did he see in her?
>>
>>79434432

That interaction between her and Affleck was just so good. The way you could just see Affleck's character internally breaking down when she says "I love you" was fucking amazing. I wish there was more of her in the movie.

I got the impression that she became an alcoholic to cope with the fact her husband could drop dead at any moment. She didn't come off as a drunk at the beginning of the film. Being an alcohol is a progressive thing it doesn't happen overnight.
