It's inspired by a lot of things. Jack is a conglomeration of Western and Japanese storytelling, mythological and historical, fantastical and futuristic, light-hearted and serious. Its cinematography and sound effects are better than any other cartoon, hands down. Better than most anime, if not all. So I never watched the show before and i'm marathoning it and goddamn.

This show is, dare I say it, cartoon kino. It's artistic as fuck. The mood, the animation, the stories. Some episodes don't even have dialogue. How the fuck did they get away with that on network television?

I blame myself for never watching it because I was way contrarian and didn't want to watch anything samurai or Japanese because I used to be afraid of being called a weaboo. But goddamn I was a fucking idiot.

This is why I loved Jack, and then later on Star Wars.

Genndy knows exactly how to be unrelentingly brutal and build up a bad guy(s).

He does it so well it's just fucking amazing.

My favorite thing is when he quite literally just devotes half to three-quarters of an episode to showing off a bad guy not holding back, and then pitting them up against the protagonist.

Jack was a great western action cartoon, I'll admit it wasn't flawless or amazing, but for what it was it was pretty damn good. and to be honest the new trailer looks way better than the old show used to be

it has the potential to be really really good.
based on the trailer it seems like the creators are addressing some of the original criticisms of the show. it looks more story driven, and the action looks way better too, but the general concept and art style is still the same, so it's not a complete departure
