Goddamn that is a sexy/kickass image of a potential Atwell Doctor. Epic.

Also this is probably the last time I'm gonna post this. In honor of the passing of John Hurt, I present the first three volumes of the War Doctor's Big Finish adventures. If you enjoy this series, I highly recommend you visit the Big Finish main page and support them by purchasing some of your favorite stories.

Alright guys, give yourself five minutes and come up with titles to thirteen episodes in your imaginary series. Mark connected episodes where appropriate. If you up to it, include which incarnation of the Doctor you would like to see tackle these episodes.

1. The Cosmic Well
2. Torn Asunder
3. Pain and Principle
4. The Exiled City Pt. 1
6. The Beast of Perdition Pt. 2
7. Damaged Cargo
8. The Price of Experience
9. The Undead Garrison Pt. 1
10. Songs of Sorrow Pt. 2
11. Yearly Rituals
12. Unversed
13. The Unwilling King

I'd really like to bestow 9 with another series but I feel that due to how he's constructed, his initial meeting with Rose took fairly soon after the conclusion of Day of the Doctor.

He's great, and he'd be great on Who, but…is he hot enough to bring the Tennantfags back? I'll have to ask my female and gay friends.

Unless they can squeeze in a recurring cheesecake character separate from the companion—which Agent Carter did, and Doctor Who Series 1 for that matter, so… Sounds good to me.

My man.

If YOU were in charge of what the next Doctor's incarnation, what would you decide to go with? Again, this is your personal preference, not what the BBC is actually going to go with.

>Sex?
I classically see the Doctor as male.

>Age?
30s ish?

>Attire?
If we can carry the provided pic's look into the new series I'd be content. If not, solid color button up and a brown coat. Black slacks and combat boots.

>Personality?
Brash and boisterous. This Doctor is likely to masturbate himself lyrically while saving you literally. I'm thinking the worst qualities of 10 and 11 in one action packed character. Fiercely intelligent but potentially arrogant to the point of dangerous.

>Series Type?
First half are all stanalones and the second half are all two episode arcs.

>Main Antagonist?
I'd like a revisit of the Great Intelligence but I'm not sure how I would go about achieving that.

Yeah, I think she's a good actress and would probably do well in the role, but you can't deny the fact that a big part of the reason /who/ has latched onto this is her looks.

Yeah, I think Olivia'd be better, if only because that way the writers (and audience) would be less tempted to overly sexualise the Doctor and just write her properly instead.

As for Doctors... I dunno. What I'd love to see is (after Tom Baker dies) The Master (or someone) going back to try and kill The Fourth Doctor, and then for the current Doctor (whoever that may be) going back to try and stop them. Archive footage of a famous Fourth Doctor episode, with the current Doctor not letting himself be seen as he protects the Fourth Doctor from the threat.

Is this a "Master in disguise as an evil plan" story or a "Master trying to reform (at least sort of)" story?

And, if the latter, is it more like Shalka, more like BF's Master mixed with their Davros, or more like Missy at the start of series 9?

>What would be your story idea for The Devil You Know?
not exactly sure, thought it sounded good but let me try.

I've wanted to see the Master's backstory from the books/audio be bought into the series. The one with the Master being manipulated into becoming Deaths champion, perhaps for the story the master manages to break the deal for a short while and acts 'normal' for a period of time. (the master not played by Michelle Gomez)

or another idea would be to have a story where the doctor goes against the devil (maybe an eternal), not like the satan pit. The devil will be a human and it will be based on the interpretation of the devil being a deal maker. (as for continuity you could have the Doctor mention there being various devils in existence).

You bet.
A brutal war finds it’s way onto an abandoned asteroid. Unfortunately, so does the TARDIS. The "asteroid" actually turns out to be the wreckage of a once enormous space station. The part in particular they landed on; the fusion reactor. If either side fires a single shot from their weapons, the whole thing might explode. The Doctor and the companion must now act as negotiators and stop the war without another shot fired. Things get more complicated when they discover a small group of classic Mondasian Cybermen just barely surviving on the surface.
In part two, it becomes more like a slasher movie with the Cybermen picking off the now united soldiers one by one, slowly improving themselves and getting stronger by recycling the soldiers they take. This one will mostly be horror. I want to make them scary again, after all.
Part three finds the Doctor, companion, and the now improved 60's Cybermen back on Mondas in the past. The Cybermen learn about their centuries of constant attempts at improvement and more constant defeats, and decide that the one true way to assure perfection is to never have to upgrade in the first place. They intend replace the original plans for the Cybermen with this final, already perfect version.

I want a Doctor that upon first glance seems like a social butterfly but upon closer examination has many of his worse qualities (egocentrism) directly under the surface with very little needed to pry them out. I want a Doctor that divides audiences even more so than Capaldi, but not so to be difficult, but for the sake of intersting stories.

>>79019048
I'm thinking The Master would nonchanlantly meet the Doctor at the end of one of his adventures and presents him with a proposal. The Master will go "straight" but in return wants to be awarded the position as companion. He's also going to mention that if the Doctor refuses the Master will annhilate a galaxy to let off some steam.

So while the Master is pal'ing around with the Doctor, the Doctor is actively trying to save a group of planets light years away while activiley mitigating the damage the master is causing while just naturally adventruing with the doctor. At the end of the second episode, the Master and the Doctor both realize the adventure has gone off the rails so to speak and have to work together to surive their current predicament with them losing their lives being the least of their worries.

Yeah, you could really do anything you wanted. That's why the EDA was so great, because it was its own era, it wasn't just something that had to fit nicely between TV episodes. You could introduce any plotlines you like and kill any characters.

If I ever wrote a Doctor Who novel I'd want it to be a War Doctor story
>>
>>79019300
The Cybermen story I really want is the first 3/4ths of The Harvest, played straight:

A surviving Cyberleader decides that, after all those losses, maybe they were wrong about being superior to non-Cyber humans. So he decides to convert his survivors back to humans, using spare human parts. Not having any emotions yet, he doesn't realize what a horrible thing he's doing, or that the people he's dealing with to harvest those parts are the worst of humanity.

The problem is an ending. Not the "Ha, it was all an evil Cyberplot" from the Harvest. Not the Cybermen sacrificing themselves to stop the bad organ marketers. Not realizing that humans are just as bad as them and giving up and staying Cyber. So… what?

OK, that sounds cool.

I don't think you'd have to change much to avoid contradicting it. Paul Cornell says that as far as he's concerned, both versions of Human Nature happened, and why not; the changes were all driven by TV != Books and Ten != Seven (and nobody == Benny), plus the chance to explore a few things he didn't get to the first time around. Doing the same with The Master could definitely work.

Within the first five minutes of the second volume he convinces a soldier to assist him retrieving a weapon located in a patch of varga plants that will mutate you inside out into a plant creature if they so much as touch you. You can guess how that went for the time soldier. Big Finish made it horrifying to listen to..

A few of the writers were at first, but they burned out pretty quickly.

Of course it probably doesn't help that most of the good Who novelists had been at it for 15 years at that point and either moved on to other things or gotten stale. Who was the last new blood they brought in, Lloyd Rose?

Anyway, some of the "deluxe" NSAs (the hardcover standalone books by name writers) are good; the rest, occasionally a good one slips in by accident, but not often enough to keep reading even the reviews, much less all the books…

Meanwhile, how many of the Obverse, etc., writers would be willing to go into a more tightly-controlled line just for more exposure, considering how little exposure Doctor Who novels really means? And does getting to write for Iris or Faction Paradox or your own line of Erimem books or whatever siphon off some of the excitement of getting to write for Doctor Who itself?

Bill: Doctor, you're dying.

Twelve sighs. Then he looks at Bill's face, and frowns.

12: No, no, don't do that!

Bill: Do what?

12: Get sad. People always get sad when I die. So what, I'm dying. Happens everyday.

Bill: So...don't be sad?

12: I forbid it. Plus, I'm coming back. Save your tears. There's something I'm supposed to tell you...oh yes, I'm dying. But I'm coming back. And I'll need your help. Won't exactly be the same...but don't forget me. Caused a whole lot of trouble between me and Clara at first.

Okay. The slow regeneration is a good idea:

After having saved the day 12 stumbles in pain down a long corridor, the TARDIS at the other end. The further he gets down the corridor the brighter his skin glows. We don't get another shot of his face when he's about halfway to the TARDIS and his walk becomes noticeably strongly. He moves with more and more speed and confidence as the golden light disipates and he is walking perfectly normally; except it's someone else's walk now. The new figure strides to the TARDIS, swings open the door and we see the brand new Doctor inspecting his/her time machine with new eyes, smiling warmly.

>>
>>79020823
The "tightly-controlled" thing is the problem, really - it just seems to boil down to "you aren't allowed to be interesting". Even when they got Parkin in for The Eyeless, it was nowhere near the level of Warlords of Utopia or his EDA work. So I wouldn't want them working on NSAs if that meant being forced to color inside the lines, but I don't see why BBC Books couldn't get rid of that "trad" house style entirely - like you say, there's no real exposure or attention paid to Who books by anyone except the fans, so I don't know who they think they're pleasing by putting out endless Justin Richards runarounds.

>The "tightly-controlled" thing is the problem
I doubt Justin is the problem. Remember, he's the one who gave us the back half of the EDAs—including begging Larry Miles to come back, signing Lloyd Rose, and telling Lance Parkin to go wild with the finale.

But BBC Books wants the novels to "feel like the TV series". Which means they're looking for Turlough and the Earthlink Dilemma, not Henrietta Street.

Which is pretty ironic, given that the TV series under Moffat has stolen more from the rad authors than the trad, but…

>anyone except the fans
I think they really believe they can expand to casual fans buying an occasional book. Other than the deluxe novels by real SF writers, I doubt they're succeeding. The NSAs sell better than the EDAs because fandom is larger now that the show is back on TV, not because the NSAs appeal to a wider segment of fandom. But maybe there are a lot of Grans out there saying "Our Johnny likes that Doctor Who, and this book likes pretty nice, I'll buy it for him", and they'd be turned off if the back of the book were all about sex magic in brothels…

>>
>>79021725
Yeah, the BBC thing is more what I meant - Richards wrote the first Brax story after all, so I know he's capable of good stuff. And it seems like Moff keeps them in line a bit too; apparently he told Gary Russell he had to use Bernice instead of River for Big Bang Generation. (Plus, if you subscribe to the Gareth conspiracy theory, it's a bit weird that he wrote a really good Shada and then suddenly got replaced by Goss for the next two Adams books...)

The deluxe books are nice. Especially Baxter's.
>>
>>79022181
I don't really care about who gets counted as a companion at the edge cases; there's clearly a "main companion" or two (or three, if you're Davison) at almost every point in the show, and I agree with you that it would be nice for a little change in the dynamic.

But my first vote for the change would be a companion who isn't a present-day human from suburban southern England. I don't mean it has to be Frobisher, just, say, the Victorian version of Clara instead of the present-day one. Just to take away the safe visiting-home stuff RTD added to the show and see how the writers deal with it. They can visit Zoe's home in The City or Fitz's home in 1963, but it won't be the same as the viewer's home.

>Sex?
I have no actual preference, I think a female Doctor has as much potential as a male. Colm Meaney is my inspiration here, but the part could as easily be played by the right woman. However, I think the age of the actor would be different depending on the sex.

>Age?
50s-60s if male, 30s-40s if female

>Attire?
The silhouette would be classic Doctor--long coat, sleeves, collar and trousers--but the material would be rough, weatherable, working class stuff. Canvas and leather and cotton over satin and tweed and fine fabrics.

>Personality?
Workaday genius. Constantly keeps his/her hands busy tinkering with the guts of the TARDIS, screwdriver or other devices as a thinking fidget, like 2's recorder or 12's guitar. S/he is the tough, take-no-shit, seen-it-all mechanic/bartender/barber with a hard shell and a heart of gold. Tends to detach him/herself from crisis situations and observe his/her companions, offering guidance and allowing them to make mistakes before stepping in to pull the big save at the end. Treats his/her companions like junior officers to be educated and improved, with occasional moments of tender friendship.

>Series type?
Solid mixture of standalones, two partners and movie specials.

>Main antagonist?
The Rani. A high level academic type scientist to counter this Doctor's blue collar tinkerer-genius personality.

I wonder if a braver/more business-savvy editor could do something about it. If Chibnall went to the BBC and said, "The novels are worth so little that we could treat them as a loss leader instead of a cash-in and it would make no difference in our books, so I want Richards to start using them to experiment with ideas that may or may not work on the show, where we can't afford the same risk," he'd probably get his way. 99% of the time with things like this, the text file is just the link to the real download plus the password to the archive, and there's absolutely no reason not to just put it on Pastebin—or just paste the text here in the first place.

But what's the harm of downloading random .txt files? Set up your system to not hide extensions. Or drag it to Notepad/TextEdit instead of double-clicking it. Or cat/type it from the console. Then there's no way it can hurt you.

Hayley's Comet, huh. The tits alone won't do it.

From what I've learned in the past few years, memeing something into our reality apparently works with humor and creativity. Baneposting is inherently funny and can find stupidity in the tiniest detail of the plane scene. The Trump stuff, while abysmally less creative than baneposting, still gets its humor from the fact that Donald's very own existance is absurd, it's his being that's prone to memes, the fact that someone like this man is now one of the most powerful men in the world only makes everyone meme harder to keep away the suicidal thoughts. Oh and then people attached caps and anime lolis acting like stereotypical americans I guess.
The last factor is, of course, Kek. Hijacking threads with Hayley's memes and getting the biggest repeating numbers with them will make her relevant and put her inside the community's mind. This process of course has to be organic, or she'll be a forced meme. Her superiority as a woman over other female earthlings, for example, is working nice in these threads.

TL;DR we can't just post her boobs in every thread but I firmly suggest we do, we need the power of memes, gets and a lot of autism. We need to find something explotable in her or her roles, specific patterns if possible, and go full retard.

That being said I think we hayleyfags will crash and burn relatively soon. But isn't that what comets do?

BBC has also just released a series with a young quirky loveable male protagonist, which can somewhat secure the young-doctah-fangirl audience (Max Landis' "Dirk Gently", that is). So i think they already have some wiggle room to introduce a non-conventional Doctor.
>>
Are the About Time books worth it? Specifically the season 22-26 one since the last two seasons are my favourite.
>>
>>79024697
The About Time books are good if you enjoy reading two insufferably autistic and possibly schizophrenic and definitely pretentious bastards who hate everything argue about the minutia of missing episodes they've never seen.

In other words, yes.

Although books 6 and 7 are a lot less fun, because it's basically Tat arguing with Tat after Loz fucked off. Still not bad, but not the same.
>>
>>79024428
>Max Landis' "Dirk Gently"
Which was great considering it was a product of nepotism. I went in thinking "I'm not going to like this!" but was really surprised. I think it carried the Doctor Who torch a hell of alot better then class did, despite it's tenuous connection to the franchise. I may catch some flames for this but at this point I'm damned disappointed Max fucking Landis isn't taking over for Moffat. It might have been a better series, than series 9 overall and moffat could learn a thing or two apparently on how to do a series long arc with wibbily wobbily timey wimey bollocks.
If you haven't seen it /who/ it's worth a look and it's really good once you get over Dirk doing his damnedest to act like Matt Smith's 11th doctor. It's not as bad as Eddie Redmayne's in Fantastic Beasts, however. Bart is best gril by the way.
>>
>>79024862
Just don't go into it expecting it to be Dirk Gently and it's pretty good.

And really, I'm not sure a more faithful sequel to the Dirk Gently duology would have been a good idea anyway. Douglas Adams spent a decade trying to write one, and look how that turned out.
>>
>>79024428
>So i think they already have some wiggle room to introduce a non-conventional Doctor.
Things don't really work that way in TV-land.

Even if Dirk Gently had the possibility of becoming the BBC's new flagship show, you don't risk a critically important property just because another one might pick up some of the fans you drove away from the other. You try to get those fans to watch both.

(Hopefully you also don't let the same guy be in charge of both shows so he burns out and misses a year on each of them, but then if you were smart, you wouldn't be a TV exec.)

Yeah, they more or less just took on the "brand" name for it and kept a few elements. It's as if Max pitched an "American Doctor Who" to BBCAmerica, and they said no we can't do that obviously but what do you know about Dirk Gently, it's vaguely similar and max created a hybrid. I'm really happy it got picked up for a second season and still shocked I enjoyed it. I'm kinda excited to see what he does with AAWiL now and i'd never thought I'd say that.

The 2010 TV series isn't nearly as faithful to the books as that, but it feels kind of like what Adams might have written if he'd struggled to turn it into a TV show in the early 80s before he'd finished the books. Anyway, worth checking out, but I guess don't expect it to be like the new series.

I used to read his blogs faithfully; the current one isn't as interesting. Or maybe it's just not as fun without the challenge of catching each new post before he deleted it and then reposted a different version and then deleted that. :)

Cool I may check out the original someday .I could probably knock it out in a rainy day easily. Admittedly I have no idea why I associated a McGann with it.

What really surprises me is that all of the fan rage is about the color of Dirk's coat or how old he is, rather than the fact that he's a completely different character in a completely different world. It's like complaining that Faction Paradox sucks as a sequel to The Ancestor Cell because none of the major Great Houses are called Lungbarrow.

current one? I remember when he made a new one, something dinosaurs and superman, but I thought he stopped updating it
