The only people I managed to befriend so far is all the Chinese exchange students from Beijing. I fear I might end up knowing Mandarin before Japanese if this keeps up

It's just an IKEA, if you've seen one, you've seen them all. Though they do special Japanese style food too and have amazing salmon.

Best thing about living so close is they ship for almost next to nothing in and around Chiba (more tos ship to Tokyo, etc.) and a LOT of their stuff is hella cheap compared to the Japanese IKEA store Nitori.

I came here from compsci on a minor for "game design" and basically got told to do a project of my own choice, but because I'm a foreigner and all the Japanese are working on fixed projects I'd have to do it solo. "oh but you can ask these individuals for help, but they don't know English so you'll figure it out". He majored in Psychology, then did some a graduate diploma in teaching, I think. Then he did the TEFL and started applying for English teaching jobs in Korea. I think the requirement is any bachelor's degree, and the TEFL, so the teaching diploma he did wasn't a necessity for teaching overseas.

For JET, depends on the school. I was up in the sticks (Hokkaido) and teachers worse PE kit for most of the day so I turned up every day in sweatpants and a tshirt unless it was winter, nobody gave a fuck.

Tokyo is probably stricter though, and eicuckwa schools are always 100% shirt and tie with a briefcase for good measure.
