So, a though I had that might make an interesting story (maybe not too long of one, mind you.)
Going with the general theme of a human from another world, suppose this human had an allergy to animal fur/dander(not a serious one, with breathing issues and stuff, but a mild to moderate one, with puffy, red watery eyes, runny or stuffy nose and just a general feeling of ugh...)
Winding up caught in an adoption center, they're checked by a doctor, and confirmed they're not sick and it's just allergies, but they don't bother testing what the allergies are for.
Here's where the story can go two ways.
1. They have some medication for them, it clears them up for a while, and during this time, they're adopted by a furry furry. Time goes on, the meds wear off and they're suddenly seeming sick, worse around their new owner. The owner tries to figure out what's wrong, and once they do, they try to find ways to help their new pet(or give them back to the adoption center because they 1.don't want a "faulty" pet or 2. Want the human to find a family where the allergies won't be an issue.

2. they're stuck there without med, looking sick and depressed all the time, watching other humans/pets being adopted by the things making them sick. Nobody wants them, and they're hearing murmurs of they might have to send them off to a wild preserve or put them down soon. Suddenly, a different adopter comes in, be it a scalie or a hairless cat, or bird / W/e, the human suddenly starts doing everything they can to get this adopter's attention.

So what's the consensus here? I've read a bunch of stories and I can't get a feel for how intelligent humans are supposed to be. We've got one story where the furry owner is all "I know you guys can talk" (which brings up questions about human rights), and I read one where Anon does up the buttons on his shirt and furries were all "holy shit this human is smart". I think that humans are supposed to be more intelligent than dogs (would probably recognize themselves in a mirror/photograph), but aren't smart enough to do things like have language or culture. Maybe crow or octopus levels of intelligence?
