I know this is an excuse for fucking. But man I think this sums up what's utterly turned me off of the later Pack Street stories.

Like I've got issues. The wolf social customs are way too feral to fit what we see of zootopia, the "Remy stands up for himself, learns he is garbage for doing so, is sad." lesson is done over and over, the big turning point went from "Remy is overwhelmed by pack street's insular and suffocating culture" to "Remy is wrong, again, always, and learns that he has to be like the pack."..

Someone in another thread mentioned that there's no give and take in the stories or any attempt at give in take in the stories. The wolves show utter contempt at learning or understanding sheep customs. Even if we take all of the fiddily not-quite-the-proper-setting stuff into account it still feels more like the dude's suffering Stockholm syndrome instead of following the setting's thesis, which is meeting different people halfway.

And we still have Bellewether. There's nowhere for it to go but worse and I already don't give a fuck about these asshole bullies and this sadsack doormat. I almost feel like the original version where everyone jumped down Remy's throat when he had no idea he'd done something wrong was stronger because at least there was something to do besides have Remy be punished for being a sheep, again.

Remmy moves into a new place with its own customs. People are arguing that Remmy shouldn't have to change for them, they should change for him.

No one is expecting Remmy (or anyone else) to pay "protection". The three wolves are willingly into their own thing, but the only extent to which anyone else is asked to participate is "pay tribute to the Alpha" which has only ever manifested in the form of Al taking about $0.04 worth of lollipops from Remmy and expecting him to show a little respect.

Forget the labels, forget "Alpha" and so on. At its most basic, Al is a powerful and respected individual in the community and it's not unreasonable for Remmy to show him a little respect too, even if that's just not talking shit to his face in front of the whole building.

He's not a gang leader extorting protection or running a racket, and even his weird wolf stuff is basically opt-in. Remmy is in trouble because he was an asshole while Al was trying to defend him, not because he didn't do the secret wolf handshake.

I don't have a hat in the ring either way, but all of this sounds fine to me. There's nothing wrong with being respectful of someone when you're in their home or territory.

Remmy was out of line. They all were, but it looks like they're trying to make amends. I think anon's just pissed that Weaver isn't writing the story exactly the way he wants him to.
