I was hoping the writeanon would finish, I've been lurking in the old one since he posted last but... Yeah. Things happened.

Well, I hope he finishes. I'm still working on my own story, I might have something to post somewhat soon, but I really, really hope he finishes.

Yeah, could you tell I'm a fan of the writing since I said "I hope he finishes" three times like I'm retarded? I cringed, but I forgave myself because I'm tired.

Which brings me to the real reason why I made this post, I fell asleep while writing. So... yeah, here's my take on the same "surprise you gotta be married to a 'bold lady" concept:
https://pastebin.com/KD5Ga8c4

No editing or anything, that's straight from when I started, left it alone for half a day, came back and kept writing until I passed out. Aside from wiping the drool off my face and keyboard, that's untouched and raw.

Let me know if you find typos or anything because I had my wisdom teeth ripped out and I'm loopy on top of my usual retard mode of operation. (please rageanon if you're reading do not bully)

Kobold Bride writefag here, with a pastebin I'll update as I go along and some more green, if you guys want it.

>The wagon came to a halt, and although you couldn't see them, you could feel the eyes of the ramshackle town's denizens sizing you up from the shadows. It made you feel sullied. Unclean. So much so that you were loathe to leave the confines of the wagon, even as Rashna vaulted over the side and beckoned at you to follow.
>"Human blind? We here. Get out of wagon." she ordered, and the fact that she thought she had the right to boss you about pissed you off so much that you forgot all about the prying eyes.
>You stepped off of the wagon and onto the ground at a leisurely pace -- to make sure that Rashna and anybody else watching knew that you were doing it on your OWN accord and not because some pint-sized chameleon told you to -- and followed your newlywed wife towards the gaping maw of a cave imbedded into the mountainside.
>Its ragged mouth pulsed with orange torchlight and overflowed with kobolds, each yipping and cheering greetings in their own savage, backwards language as Rashna waved to them.
>Lovely. More of the little bastards.
>Rashna hurried towards the mass of jabbering retards, her arms spread wide. They welcomed her to their mass in what you could only describe as a 'group hug', and as you made an attempt to edge past them unnoticed, a random, scaly paw clamped around your wrist and pulled you into the crowd.
>you didn't so much as manage to say 'unhand me' before a dozen kobolds piled atop of you and shat all over the very concept of 'personal space'. Your protests were lost in the incessant babble of their gravely voices as curious paws grabbed hold of whatever they could find.
>"Is Rashna's new mate? So pretty!"
>"Where his claws? Where fangs?"
>"Skin is so soft... Very nice."
>"*riiiip* Hmph! Stupid human clothes. Tear easy!"
>"He stink bad...*snff snff* ... Like flowers."

>Eventually Rashna freed you from your torment, warding off your harassers with grunted commands as she approached you. Her paw wrapped around your arm, its grip far tighter than any of the other kobolds' roaming fingers. There was something fierce in the way she held you. Something primal.
>"This am Rashna's mate!" she exclaims. "Any female try to take him from Rashna, then Rashna fight them in the pit, and Rashna kill. Understand?" she draws her eyes across the crowd, daring anyone to meet them, lingering on a female kobold who'd been particularly bold in groping you.
>They hold each other's stare for all of five seconds before the other female submits. She shrinks back into the mass of kobolds, but not before giving you a glance over her shoulder and a flick of her serpentine tongue that made you feel dirty in all the wrong ways.
>Rashna's golden eyes narrow themselves into daggers and follow the slim, aquamarine figure of the other female as she slinks away, daring her to turn around.
>And then, as soon as her authoritativeness had came, it went, and she was back to smiling and embracing the other kobolds, as if the standoff had never happened.
>After a few more hardy hellos on her end and some reluctant conversation on yours, the crowd dispersed, and allowed you and Rashna to continue down into the depths of the cave.
>"Bedrooms this way. You come." she says, leading you ever further into the bowels of the mountain. You followed without question, too weary to set her right for bossing you about. Where there were bedrooms there were usually bathrooms nearby, and the groping, grubby paws of the kobolds had left you feeling positively filthy.

There's a nice story underneath here but it's pretty rough around the edges. You're trying to fit a lot into a relatively short fic so it all comes off as a bit rushed, their relationship goes from 0-100 with a lot of telling but not much showing so a lot of the emotional stuff later feels unearned. The sex scene is alright, although the dialogue feels a a bit like a generic porno. And the assassins are a bunch of jobbers despite the kobold having bullshit tier knife skills. Like the supposed 'master assassin' literal runs at a dude with a sword raised over his head. I did like it overall, it just needs some polishing.

Thanks for the feedback. It was one of the first stories I did so It definitely needs some more work. I think the rushed part comes from the fast forward I did where it jumps a couple days. Yeah, the dialogues not the best, it was originally supposed to be a strictly comfy fluff fic and then it morphed into sex and action in the later parts. Thank you for the feedback

Now I think about it, it's sort of weird that the default kobold look is "ramshackle". They're good miners, industrious and are good at traps... which implies a reasonable level of engineering. There's no reason their homes wouldn't have good stonecutting and architecture as any other race would.

And yet I can't think what a kobold aesthetic would even be. Dragon scrollwork? Flowing runes to juxtapose dwarven geometry? Brutal minimalism? Ancestor totems? Really it could be anything.

Wait shit I'm world building on /trash/, not /tg/... fuck it they don't have a kobold thread up anyway.

I appreciate you, anon!

Mining doesn't necessarily imply masonry - they're very weak creatures, and I'd imagine any mines would exploit cheap labour over mining skill.

Their attitude is often portrayed as conniving and somewhat nervous. If anything I'd expect their aesthetic to be one of semi-automated-pseudo-deathtrap cavern teepees of stick and barktwine. Like a race of macgyvers with anxiety disorders.

Mining means you have to know how to cut and move rock, and they live underground, right? Mining out their warrens.
There has to be something behind the traps, somewhere a kobold can shrug off his armor and curl up in safety. And humans at least usually look into decorating their homes once they establish one. Even if it's just with a a fur rug or a cave painting.

I mean, it's entirely possible that kobolds just don't understand art or aesthetics so they never bother to make their homes anything other than coarsely mined out holes, but you'd think that'd come up more.
Nah, I'm of the opinion kobold art and architecture exists, it's just rarely seen outside of the warrens interior. And someone getting past all the traps usually means they're after the treasury or patron dragon, not the kobold dormitories.
>>
>>
>>
>>11366360
WW1 industrial. With magic radioactive stone fuel reactors. Blightburn or something. I dream this shit all the time.
>>
>>11366360
My preferred kobold aesthetic isn't so much ramshackle as it is a little chaotic.

Kobolds are skilled engineers but also jittery and excitable, which means they're prone to sporadic bursts of invention without real direction.

Kobold warrens tend to get filled with all kinds of weird one off gadgets and personalized designs.

Another reason why they look a little ramshackle and cobbled together is that larger, stronger races tend to push them around so they have to forage junk yards and trash heaps for supplies sometimes.
>>
>>11366360
>default kobold look is "ramshackle"
I think that's because they're deliberately either retarded or frequently kicked around. I know in my story (Unlikely Bride) I've chosen to make them politically and economically irrelevant, aside from banditry and thievery of course. Most of the humans simply do not give a fuck about kobolds, kobold rights, or even acknowledging they exist outside of northmen who tend to be in closer proximity with them.

I think we can see it in the real world, people that are basically worthless and might as well be NPCs tend to have the "random tacked-together bullshit" architectural style. Even on a small scale, look at your average inner-city ghetto or redneck doublewide out in the ass end of nowhere. I grew up in small town, rural Minnesota, most of the people who mean absolutely nothing (there's a lot of us) just don't give a fuck about appearances. Why care when a mid-July tornado is just as likely to fly through the trailer park as anything else? Or even better, perhaps the neighbor's meth lab bites the dust in a most spectacular way and it burns half the county down, then what?

Kobolds often are the fantasy-equivalent of those people.
>>
>>11366360
I think the overwhelming degree of tribalism that runs through kobold society, plus their general frailty and cultural sense of superiority to others because of their draconic heritage, imagined or otherwise, is what has their architecture look so plain and often slapdash.

There's no real reason to seek improvement in an insular community when it comes to architecture short of trying to make structures that are resilient. The advance of the arts and what is also relatively stagnant since there's, yet again, no reason for the culture to move foward if it is believed to be superior to all others.

Part of what makes kobolds interesting is how they function in the three capacities they are often found in when it comes to fiction:
A) The kobold that has been happened upon by a band of adventures while deep in a cave/mine and is therefore xenophobic, skittish, conniving and haughty
B) The kobold that has integrated into society relatively recently and is therefore still skittish and perhaps prejudiced but not as conniving and haughty (alignment permitting.)
C) The kobold that has either fully integrated into the dominant culture or grew up in. The prejudices and biases they hold are a product of their living conditions and status at this point, and less a product of life in an insular culture with delusions of grandeur.

Done with the third, and i am really looking forward to more. I'll keep an eye on the board for ya and let you know what kinda feedback you get from my sharing. So far i really like several things. The slowly developing relationship for one is nice. I like that they are awkward as hell around each other. Lots of stuff goin on in the background that's cultural misunderstanding.

Leaving part 3 on the footnote about bandits on hidden horse was nice, i like a little cliffhanger tossed in.

World building and description of the wagon train itself is great. I like lots of little details described. Like the patchwork of ramshackle wagons and reptilian eyes peering through cracks in them built a nice picture for me.

I'd like to see more Anza in action, she needs a lil more personality development. However so far shes a likable good character. Enough that i want to see what she can do.

I also am interested about when in part one the dwarf rivalry thing was talked about it was mentioned they needed magic to breath and go deeper. Hope you get into that some more.

Thanks for posting again.

Due to their penchant for overpopulation Kobold mines, labyrinths, and so on are carefully planned before being precisely excavated to maximize the use of space. If possible divination magic from the tribe's sorcerers or priests, will be used to find valuable things to mine and otherwise leave no part of the construction to chance. Kobolds decorate their homes with engravings and symbols significant to their history. They are skilled record keepers and can engrave the events of their lives no matter how many times they switch lairs, as they often need to do whenever they mine a place out. There's also the part of the lair that depicts their ancient draconic origin and at least one or two temples to their god.

Not just that, but dutifully being a husband without throwing a fit. I think the elves were expecting and betting on Grulf being the reachman sacrifice, don't you?

>I like a bit of good smut, especially smut with a story
Reverse that and that's what this is, but I threw in something specifically for you and the other people who like kobolds getting plowed by burly human males.

I'm glad you like the work I put in, I always try to hide the world-building extrapolation in a place that's somewhere between the narrator and the character's themselves. Like you just don't know who's quite telling you about it until whatever the character has going on derails it or redirects it.
>I'd like to see more Anza in action, she needs a lil more personality development.
You will, and she'll probably develop a lot less slowly than most people are used to because she will never be the object of focus. She'll develop as Thonvar gets to know her, so she "develops" as their relationship grows.
>>11373321
>I also am interested about when in part one the dwarf rivalry thing was talked about it was mentioned they needed magic to breath and go deeper. Hope you get into that some more.
You know, I just don't know if I'll do it with *this* particular story... :D (I've been kicking around a concept for a story that takes place just after the Meredic Schism, focused on the first dwarven, not dvelmer, settlements up in the mountains)

Nice work fampai. Don't feel like you have to put in smut if it doesn't fit, write a good story first and foremost. Tbqh I'd actually find it refreshing to read a fic or greentext on here that doesn't revolve around fucking, it's starting to get a bit boring that everything has to be porn apparently.

I'm definitely looking forward to more. I like the whole language difficulty situation.

I had this in a d&d campaign.
Dog-bolds came to the continent by sneaking onto trade ships to steal but then the boats left port while they were still on board.
By mere coincidence, both species called themselves kobold.
The native lizard-bold and foreign dog-bolds both have been warring over the name kobold and both species refer to the other as 'kobalds'

No other race cares and calls both kobold since both are thieving trap makers

>Normally Kobolds run away at the first sign of real danger, instead electing to contemplate and devise traps for those that would do them harm.
>This one before you, clad with scraps of cloth and nothing more, has taken up a large shard of bone from a long dead ogre and a crude obsidian dagger, pointing its jagged edge at your face.
>Its voice, somewhat higher pitched than the other 'bolds you have encountered thus far, yells at you in the most intimidating way it can, "DIE HUMAN!"
>It prepares to attack you!
>Oh wait, it's fucking telegraphing its attacks. You easily bat the dagger away with your sword, taking a small swing at it after.
>Huh, you were barely putting anything behind that slash, but the kobold is sprawled out over the ground like it got utterly annihilated
>Aww shit, it's begging for its life. You weren't here to kill anything, just trying to find some rare herbs for some recipes you wanted to try.
>That cloth it was wearing must have been made by someone who knew nothing about the trade, because it basically disintegrated the moment you hit it. Huh, it's a female.
>Her whimpering is getting annoying as it continues. Heaving a sigh, you take the blunt end of the sword and smack her hard enough to knock her out.
>Despite how paltry her fighting skills were, and how pathetic she looks on the ground like she is, you can't help but admire the bravery she displayed. Far better than any 'bold you've ever seen.
>An idea crosses your mind, but is it really a good idea? You look over to the passed out Kobold, then give your herb pouch a feel.
>Ah fuck it. If you need more, you can always come back. You sheath your sword and pick up the Kobold, tossing her over your shoulder.
>You exit the cave system, tip-toeing over the traps you dismantled on the way to the mouth and place the kobold on the back of your horse, starting the journey home

>The ride home isn't all that bad. No arduous desserts, no forsaken graveyards, no perilous cliff side edging. Giving up the mantle of an adventurerer is always something you have regretted somewhat, but this is the kind of benefit that made you consider it in the first place.
>You take a break about halfway to your home, sipping from your waterskin. You notice a small murmur of movement out of the corner of your eye when you were getting some of your tasty rations out.
>It came from the kobold. The moment you looked over at her, she went still as a stone. You go 'round the horse and look her in the face. Her eyes are shut tight, and when you observe her closer, you notice some slight tremblings.
>How long she was actually awake, you don't know. But perhaps you could use this as a way to tell her your idea.
>You repack your supplies and get back on the dirt path. You don't know what to say to the kobold for a good half hour; you weren't really a people person, even when the bard of your old party tried to be your wingman. But after pondering for a while, you come up with what to say.
>"I know you may not trust me right now, but I promise I mean you no harm. You showed lots of courage you know, and I can appreciate that. But you were defeated so easily, I couldn't just let you go on like that."
>You reach the top of a grass covered knoll, and behold your homestead, still as cozy looking as you left it. The land was quite expensive, but a fetch quest helped get the seller to ease up on the price.
>You stop the horse by the barn. The kobold, still pretending to be asleep, does nothing as you approach. You kneel next to her to finish your proposal.
>"So, I have an idea. You stay with me, help with some chores here and there, and I'll teach you all the tricks I know. I won't force you, so if you feel you don't want to do this, you can leave at anytime. So, what do you say?

I imagine their aesthetic being very basic because their physique being what it is while the wilderness they live in is inhabited by monsters humans only ever dreamed of means that more often than not they only ever scrape by and whatever free time they have is spent on making sure the rampaging troglodytes don't reach the camp rather than making the camp look presentable. It's like playing the mesolithic era on hard mode.
And if they found themselves in an area that is mostly harmless I imagine them developing a very laid back and cozy way of life because I'm a sucker for comfybolds.

>The months passed by quickly, as though time had accelerated in some odd way. The Kobold, who still hadn't given you a name, was doing very well under your tutelage, and was surprisingly apt at the chores you assigned her.
>You taught her the very same fundamentals that you were taught when you put down the quill and took up adventuring. Stuff like exercises to harden the body, identifying helpful plant life, and stress coping techniques.
>At first, she seemed rather wary of you. She would flinch if you rose too quickly, thinking you would strike her for something she didn't know she did wrong. She inspected the plants you had her identify with such scrutiny, it was as though you were giving her a life or death test.
>But after the first three weeks, she started to trust in you. And with trust, comes complaints.
>"Why aren't we working with weapons yet?" She would question. "What are we even doing?"
>Sheesh, for being a member of one of the most cowardly races, she could be a hardass when she willed it.
>You gave her tasks like clearing the table after dinner, fetching some ingredients for some special potions you devised, and caring for the animals. You made sure she had a comfortable bed, some good food, and clothes that didn't evaporate.
>When you felt she had all the basics down to a tee, you told her quite simply, "Pack your bags, we're going on a long trip."
>With the basic training complete, you would need resources of a different kind altogether.

If this seems rushed, it might be. I am writing this at like 12:00, and am tired. I'll edit later. Goodnight.

Alright, I'm back.

>Then you remembered that you were inside a fucking mountain, and that the nearest bathtub was probably miles away back in Hightower, along with all the other luxuries that came with living in the civilized world. Running water, cutlery, proper bedding -- you'd find none of it here in this grim blister on the... arse-end... of...
>You reached the end of the tunnel, and your breath caught in your throat as the cave opened up into a colossal antechamber.
>The ceiling was easily a hundred or more feet above your head, and the smoothed black stone of the walls was stricken through with twinkling veins of gold, silver and copper from the ground all the way up to the top. The thuggish runes of the kobold's written language sprawled across their surface in messy tangles of writing -- what it said, you could only imagine.
>Most impressive of all, however, was the hulking skeleton of a dragon stood in the centre of the room, its back arched and its wings spread wide to their full, mighty breadth, the skeletal fingers of its wing-digits coated in an artificial and patched membrane of leather.
>The empty sockets of its eyes glowered down upon you, and the beast's maw hung open in a silent roar, bearing a collection of teeth akin to a sprawl of ivory schimitars.
>Rashna doesn't wait for you to stop gawking at the dead titan, instead gripping you by the wrist and tugging you towards one of the many openings flowing out from the antechamber.
>"Human stop staring. Waste time. You come bedroom now."
>You let her lead you along, sparing one last glance over your shoulder at the skeletal monstrosity. As you did so, you noticed the heaped mounds of gems and riches piled around its ankles, toes adhorned with priceless trinkets and heels stepped in hills of gold.
>Offerings. Gifts. Worship.
>The revelation hit you hard, and you look back at Rashna with a newfound revultion.
>A monster. They were worshipping a monster.
>>
>>11399063
>Rashna pulled you down a dimly lit corridor. You passed by a throng of guards, armed with spears and garmented in some crude imitation of armour comprised of pots, pans and whatever else they'd managed to pilfer from the scrapheap. They stoically nod to Rashna as she passes.
>She leads you through the door they were guarding, and to your pleasant surprise, you were greeted by the sight of a bed.
>A NICE bed. King sized, four-poster and loaded with welcoming pillows, fat with feathers. It was like an oasis in the middle of a desert. A diamond atop a hill of turds. The single sliver of proper civilisation you'd seen so far in this repulsive shitheap full of beast worshippers and barbarians.
>You tore yourself away from the bed to inspect the rest of the room. Drawers, cabinets, a mirror, some god-awful DIY attempt at a dresser... It wasn't much, but it was leagues ahead of the barren hole in the floor you'd pictured in your head.
>"This... This is my room?" You asked as cool, soothing relief doused over you. As hopeless as your situation was, at the very least you weren't sleeping on a mattress of rocks.
>Then Rashna spoke, and snuffed the meagre flame that'd been your hope. "No, this Rashna's room. Me just let you stay here." Her paw moved to the clasp of her cloak and undid it, letting it spill over her shoulders into a heap on the floor. You turn away blushing as she pulled her shirt over her head, tossing it carelessly next to her cloak.
>"W-what in the name of the Gods are you doing?!"
>"It late. Rashna tired. Sleep now." she grunted, vaulting onto the bed and worming her way beneath the sheets. You don't dare look until you're certain she's covered herself, and when you did, you notice the rest of her clothing thrown to the foot of the bed. Oh bloody hell, she's naked. "Human sleep too. Tomorrow big day."
>>
>>11399086
>"I.. But I... Were am I supposed to sleep?"
>Rashna props herself up on her elbows, and the sheets slipped from her chest as she does so. You moved to shield your eyes, only to realise that there was nothing to shield them from. Oh yeah, she's a kobold. No tits.
>She cocked an eyebrow at you sceptically, as if questioning whether or not you were actually as stupid as she obviously thought you were. "In bed. Sleeping what beds are FOR, dumb human. Now stop waste time and lay next to Rashna. Lot of work tomorrow, need sleep."
>"I'm NOT sleeping with you." you said firmly. That's it. The line's been crossed. You'd let her take you from your home, you'd held your tongue when she told you you'd be living in a fucking cave, but there was no way -- NO WAY -- you were going to share a bed with some... Some dragon-praising she-iguana!
>Rashna stared at you for a little while, and then, in a flawless show of wisdom, comes up with a solution.
>She threw a pillow to your feet and then ferreted her way back into her nest of bed sheets. "Sleep on floor then, Rashna no care." she said with a nonchalant shrug of her shoulders.
>You should be furious, trembling with righteous anger that something as low as her would have someone like you sleep on the floor like some diseased mutt.
>You should've been, but as hard as you tried to be angry, all that seemed to come was a rending feeling of devastation.
>You were arguing over a bed. This morning you'd been the firstborn son to one of the most prestigious families in Hightower, and now you were living in a cave and being made to sleep on the floor.
>All gone. Everything you'd loved, everything you'd cherished, gone.
>You lay yourself down on the floor, away from the bed, in an adjoining room. Then you hug the pillow to your chest, close your eyes and pray to the gods that Rashna doesn't hear you crying yourself to sleep.

That's it so far. Sorry for a lack of updates. I'm working on both this and something for /hmoaf/

This is a lot like I imagined Anza to look, only with a bit shorter horns and a slightly shorter tail. Also somewhat less smooth on her back too, and of course the little nubbins on her back. I think the red kobold has a brow and forehead structure closer to what was in my head, definitely with the eyelashes.

Technically mine have five digits, feet with three big toes, a dewclaw, and a little stubby pad that gives heel-like stability. Their hands have three fingers, a thumb, and a "pinky" that' invisible from the outside.

I didn't get to play them very much, so no real in game stories, the game died before that.

But the premise was neat and the party thought they were super cute.

Ahkrin was from a kobold clan that had adopted the flintlock rifle as their primary weapon, because it compensated for their small strength and let them fight bigger creatures.

A cool, collected sniper commando on the outside, he was really a very warm and insecure little guy whose 'cool badass' persona was mostly a cover for his social awkwardness.

He was counterbalanced by Britah, his boyfriend, who was a flamboyant, loud, outgoing and energetic fighter who had pistol in one hand and saber in the another and dispatched enemies in the greatest style, longcoat and scarf flapping in the wind while Ahkrin sniped from some unseen vantage point.

That pic up there is their first real meeting. Ahkrin quietly admired Britah from a distance originally while watching him fight, covering him with sniper fire and seeing him hog the limelight and thinking he was drop dead gorgeous.

After the battle he sat down next to him but couldn't think of anything to say, only for Britah to make the first move and say he was cute and if he wanted to be friends.

After that they eventually went adventuring, where they shared one human sized sleeping bag in their tent.

Futa is a gross, niche fetish just like shit and diapers and belongs in a fetish thread. Just because it has a kobold in it doesn't mean it belongs here. Scat porn of kobolds eating shit out of a diaper doesn't belong here either.

Yes, way way too far.
3ft or less is the optimal height imo

An Unlikely Bride's world has them at above three feet, under five. For perspective the top of Anza's head is *just* shy of 177cm, coming in at 46 inches (3'10") on the dot. I consider that on the taller side for her race, she's considered quite tall by female standards. (and thus elegant and beautiful)

>>11427303
>Suh-weet! A perfect remedy for my cold.
Yes, now is when we start including other characters for the reader to enjoy, Anza is a beautiful 'bold maiden, but now we have a (slightly abused) MILF and a humiephile kobold.

>I don't think I've seen this before; I like it.
I'm glad you do, I like to include little morsels of stuff in my writing that grounds it in reality despite the fantasy setting. If you think about it, the guy's only been around trees eight times and the only time he was in the sea of pines to the east was when he was too young to realize their danger.
>What does he do here? Cleaning himself in a way not understood by kobolds?
I'm sorry if I didn't explain it well-enough, but he's washing out his runny nose. As for if it's recognized, yes and no. Without spoiling too much I'm going to reveal that Anza's particular clan/nation of kobolds only really know the other northerners and their traditions, and... let's just say she hasn't gotten out much. Like other northerners, Thonvar's people put something of a religious significance on personal cleanliness. Reachfolk are exceptionally practical, "I survived and I feel better, therefore this pleases the gods," and they place a big emphasis on things like hygiene and having your shit together. Weak links can doom villages, after all, the winters are harsh and the animals come close.

Kobolds, however, are like a lot of other peoples out there and prefer to bathe when it gets unbearable. With sensitive noses, it's only a happy accident that they chose to wash before humans are appalled by the stench of unwashed lizard. I'll also reveal that Anza's willingness to bed Thonvar partially stems from how well-kept he is.

>Your fiction says otherwise
Aw, thank you! :D

It was in a fitting chapter to do just that. Will we see more of the spellsword?

>Thonvar's people put something of a religious significance on personal cleanliness.
>"I survived and I feel better, therefore this pleases the gods,"
There is a lot of detail in here, and I really enjoy it.

The chapters you have done so far have all been great, albeit with a paragraph here and there I have trouble interpreting. This is my favourite 'bold fiction thus far.

Is the universe already established? There seems to be a lot of lore to be explored along with relations between races/factions. Or does everything come out during writing?

And how long do you plan this to be? If the universe is already established, is this just a small story within the world or could this become novel-length? It certainly feels like the latter, given their ominous dream yet to be explained, but perhaps that is were the last chapter let off?
>>
>>11429353
To be honest with the mention of Reachmen and alteration, I just assumed it was based on the Elder Scrolls. Although others things also made me think that.
>>
>>11429353
>It was in a fitting chapter to do just that.
Yes, I felt it was time for Thonvar to leave his autistic shut-in bubble and start associating with others instead of wordlessly putting their wheels back on.
>Will we see more of the spellsword?
Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe you'll get to see the source of that magical duel.

>There is a lot of detail in here, and I really enjoy it.
I'm glad you do, I try very, very hard to keep on task and make it flow in a way I wanted it to flow when I started. I'll level with you, part of Thonvar's tree terrors come from a traumatic experience I had and I know what it's like to be afraid of them. One fell on me a few years ago, ever since then memory and basic thought organization sometimes gets really hard. It's not my first savage blow to the head either, but I can use my experiences so it's not all bad. So if I seem difficult to interpret, just let me know and I'll fix it. You have to remember, I forget what I'm writing as I'm writing it so sometimes things get weird.
>Is the universe already established?
>Or does everything come out during writing?
To answer >>11429439 with this, yes, it is, (mostly) and no, it isn't Elder Scrolls based. Some things are inspired by my incomprehensible, raging hatred for Bethesda completely ruining that series, but the magic system and other things I came up with when I was in the 6th grade. I discovered TES:Arena later on, the magic system was a bit different then.

A lot of the stuff with kobolds is rather fresh, though. The only other instance they show up is in the creation myths and basically become a butt of a long, long joke about dragons. ("Dragons? What's to be afraid of? Catch one in a brewery and you might just make some more kobolds." Cue laughter, dragon tears, alchemists excited to catch tears, etc) I never intended for them to actually be more than a curiosity, I didn't want to make them not-goblin savages of course, but they were never supposed to be important. Now... 1/2
>>
>>11429899 2/2
Now they kind of are, actually. I won't explain too much about it, but yeah. Things have changed in the wider lore and I think for the better, because (and this was intentional) I haven't really explained when this happens. To reference TES again, the events here are about in the same time frame as the the end of the second era. A lot of stuff is changing, and I do mean a lot, you will see soon enough.

>>11429353
>And how long do you plan this to be?
As long as it has to be. It's theoretically a small story in a wider universe, but when we're done it'll probably be very much in the double digits of pastebins/chapters/parts.

>ominous dream yet to be explained
Do me a favor and keep a tab with that part open as you read.

Also, >>11429439
>To be honest with the mention of Reachmen and alteration, I just assumed it was based on the Elder Scrolls.
The only place that would match up with Rangvaal's description would be Falkreath or Bruma, both of which are in completely the wrong directions. The Reach here is steppes, it has more in common with Whiterun than Markarth. To be fair there is plenty of Eastmarches and a few Rifts, but they are not like the things you are familiar with. Actually you'll find that little of my world is like Tamriel, I'm drawing more from other sources out there. For example, my dwarves are "elven" but they were always different, it was what caused the Schism. Their design is actually inspired by Tolkien, a very particular Dwarf Fortress world, with some of my own special ideas thrown in.

Dragons are inspired by a friend's story, I have no idea what her inspirations were. Dragon worship in Anor is basically nonexistent, but when it did I think you'll find it had (or has?) more in common with Jean M. Auel's Clan of the Cave Bear.

>Seeing that dialogue bubble makes me regret not adding spice and flare to the kobold-talking, but they're already kind of hard to understand. I wanted to do it, I really did, but I didn't want to make them very incomprehensible.
makes sense to me, I used broken english because I thought it was cute. that sort of thing can get tricky in writing, though.
>>
>>11430019
Extremely so, I hope the story didn't suffer because of my choice.

It's hard to nail down how I think they sound, I like the idea of them having a Franconian accent of sorts. Or perhaps one of the other harsher-sounding German accents with rrrrolling R's and such. I know it was brought up in one of the threads recently, but that is always how I imagined kobolds should sound. Guttural little lizardfolk that pop up from the ground to yell in almost-German at you and want you to buy their bone-bedazzled, woven bullshit. I really wanted to expand on the language in the story, but I simply don't have access to the appropriate variety of German that has a harsher-sounding accent I feel is appropriate.

It's a cute picture though.

I'm sorry. :(

I just don't like writing like that. First or second isn't so hard for me, but then I'm forced to write for other people and assume the role of them as narrator, main character, and point of focus. When I'm writing I try to think live as the characters and see/feel/hear/think the story through their unique lens, if it's from my own perspective then...

Well, you're going to have a lot less of all the things you'd like to see, I'm a happy recluse and really the only living things I talk to are bees and chickens.

It get what you're going for, but you need to sell the logic of your core plot points better and push the audience's perception of the kobold away from trash mob and towards human. For example, a kobold dressed in rags and attacking someone with a stone dagger is trash mob behavior. It doesn't stand out as courageous. Something like her getting up and attacking over and over despite being completely outmatched would. Our hero's justification for bringing her along isn't digging into the core issues either. Sure, he's implying them, but go ahead and just say that miss kobold is living in squalor and going to die in a fucking ditch if she attacks a less sympathetic person when she has no skills. That really sounds like someone your conscience won't let you leave alone.

Don't mistake this as me hating it. I like what you have and want to see more.

This is me again i came back and read everything after part 3 in one sitting. The combat scene with the bandits was a goddam masterpiece. Your action writing is great. The talk about them scavenging for stuff and her being pissed off about not saving every bit of junk then booting his ass out of the wagon for days was perfect. That they are having difficulties both linguistically and culturally is believable as hell.

The continual story building as well as the main character being realistically uncomfortable in the forest, and now the slow meeting of other people in the caravan, the kobolds gathering closer around the couple. Its all just fantastically great.

And those little sex scenes for spice are great, though i think having them cuddle and talk about whats on their minds is just as good.

These stories are gold. And if i were you and you haven't already I'd post them somewhere to get them to a wider audience.

The only things i could think of to change are minor editing things. Nitpick nothings.

Thanks for the great stories and I'll be keeping a lookout for more.

>The combat scenes with the bandits was a goddamn masterpiece. Your action writing is great.
You don't know how grateful I am to hear that, I was concerned it was too much for some people. I tried to break up the "this, this, this and this is happening" with erratic and broken sentences that still painted the same picture. I think a lot of people don't realize just how brutally easy it is to be violent and get lethal with it, killing something, anything, is as natural as breathing. It's fast which is why seemingly sane and well-reasoned people can wind up strangling their spouses in a fit of rage.

What I tried to do is establish that Thonvar, as sensitive as he is, isn't adverse to violence. That's why I deliberately refrained from detailing the fight with the sabercat. (plus it would actually be a rather boring fight, just him poking the air a lot with a spear)

>her being pissed off about not saving every bit of junk then booting his ass out of the wagon for days was perfect.
>difficulties both linguistically and culturally is believable as hell
That's great, it really is. I'm still not so sure what I want to do with certain kobold cultural aspects yet, but I'm open to suggestions since the "yeah but like what if they didn't suck?" question has been asked plenty of times. I'm not adverse to taking in suggestions, but I'll be honest and say I may very well not act on them if it doesn't fit with the hidden stuff. (sorry!)

>the kobolds gathering closer around the couple. Its all just fantastically great.
Well, I'm glad somebody liked it. Autistic screeching has already begun and that's what did it. Same person said I shouldn't skip on the sex scenes at all, I think they're the same loon that was giving me shit on my other work. I tend to only include sex scenes if they're relevant to plot and development of the story, if not they're little mentions here and there.

I'm not even sure I know what to do with it, I'm actually kind of an awkward and shy person in real life (which surprisingly doesn't help writing Thonvar) and I have a rural upbringing so I just want to keep mumbling thank-yous and shuffling around like a moron. It's encouraging, but I don't want people to ever think I'm not grateful for the positive feedback.
>I'd post them somewhere to get them to a wider audience.
Well, I probably should.

However I am officially giving you and anyone else permission to share the appropriate links wherever you like, I only ask that you don't spam or be obnoxious. (I don't think that you would, I'm just saying it to say it)

>The only things i could think of to change are minor editing things. Nitpick nothings.
If you see anything that doesn't make any sense or is just literary weirdness please let me know, as I said earlier a tree fell on me a few years ago and I've been a little bit dopey ever since.

>Thanks for the great stories
Very welcome!
>I'll be keeping a lookout for more
I'm in the process of writing part 8, I've also been consistently coming up with and writing down ideas for parts 10-19 (I think) so we'll see. I'm also going to include a little something extra in the next one because *somebody* draws mean things about innocent kobolds and that can't go unanswered.

By the way, that's a nice picture.

From start to finish! It got a bit tedious toward the end, but I know how hard it is writing domestic stuff so I can forgive that completely.

>>11457157
I really don't know at this point, I tried to emulate Dwarf Fortress kobold gibberish with their language and I just don't know if that works with the accent I want. I'm also reconsidering my kobold, I haven't explicitly said it in my writing so far so I can get away with it. Four digits versus five is... It's traditional, I think it's the way to go.

I could see kolbolds being alot like goblins without the sleeze and greed about them. You come from a life of squaller and destitude you learn to save and barter all you can. So alot of ramshackle orky tech type stuff with enough efficency to have that "friendly rivalry" with the dwarves. Thats just my two cents cause I'm loving the story so far, and I like how sex takes a back seat to fluff and world relations. is good shit senpai
>>
>>11459074
They hoard stuff like goblins, but for entirely different reasons. I haven't shown goblins and I don't intend to, but they are literal fucking scum and deserve no sympathy or quarter which is why kobolds HATE being compared to them. Like you can insult a kobold six ways from Sunday, but "you're just a dracogoblin you ugly little shit" will make them instantly rage.

I've sort of revealed the kobold motivation for their lifestyle, when you see their stuff (and you will) I think you'll enjoy it.

>I like how sex takes a back seat to fluff and world relations. is good shit senpai
Thanks! I'm pretty sure I have more coming down the pike, but I won't confirm or deny. You'll get more actual story, some real meaty bits, coming up pretty soon either in the next part or the one after.

Bless, more places need writers like that honestly. Yeah the Kolbold Subculture type stuff has me curious and I'm eager to learn more. I'd waifu maidbold for sure

Thanks again! I'm elbow-deep in sorting out some stuff in the story that would interest you if you like culture stuff.

Are you excited to go into our first actual town?

Are the kobolds in the Bride story digitigrade or not, I don't recall it saying anything one way or another

Shit is going to go down, I just know it.

Also really enjoying your fantasy-nordic kobold adventures.

I didn't say at all, but yes they are. I've been vague on details because I'm just not happy with my character ideas. I would like to have an artist come up with some sketches, but I don't have the money (or rather a means to make money appear in the digital realm safely) to actually commission one.

>>11462234
I'm basically a retarded nordaboo in real life. I traded my long braids for a big beard, I make and drink mead, I carve runes into stuff, and I celebrate holidays in ways nobody else does. (or holidays nobody recognizes)

I've even had philosophical debates with Varg Vikernes in Youtube comment sections, apparently we have a lot of overlapping interests.

As for shit going down I really, really regret sometimes choosing this style of story because I want to show you all the things out there happening at this exact moment. It's so frustrating, but I have to resist for integrity's sake.

What would a kobold wearing a sallet look like?
>>
The bandit fight was good but as an aside, looking up HEMA stuff has broken my brain when it comes to medieval combat. I hope nobody drives an arming sword straight through a cuirass in one of your stories.
>>
>>11462527
I might, but that would severely drain from An Unlikely Bride which is already kind of erratic in it's updates. (I have writer's block at the moment)

>>11462698
I'm glad you liked it, but there will be no such thing like that. Well, it depends on what you mean by "through" because if we count all the joints and holes for arms and things like that then yes there might be some of that.

Of course that requires somebody to actually wear a cuirass, most people in the north wear a combination of leather, fur, mail, and laminar armor if they do wear any at all. With the presence of magic it means that armor can easily become a deadly liability, Thonvar's clothes were bad enough, imagine if the same effect was put on plate of any type. That doesn't mean that it doesn't exist, a man-at-arms in heavy plate versus a cornered pyromancer is going to be a one-sided fight that ends in a dead mage, same goes for an aeromancer. However a hydromancer in the same context can pummel the living shit out of him or simply catch him in a low spot and drown the guy or smash him in ice.

Then there's the true masters of magic that are nightmare fuel for anyone that crosses them, a conjuring pyromancer can summon a flame elemental that can easily fuck a guy up. A powerful storm mage can simultaneously drown and fry somebody, and of course a necromancer in a crypt or barrow is just going to be a pain in the ass.

Black mages are dicks.

However not all is lost! While there's plenty of hurting spells there's also plenty of helping spells. A guy in plate on top of a heavy horse being gently magicked by some busty whitemages is going to be the fantasy equivalent of a freight train. Even better if the "horse" is actually a stonesteed conjured up by a powerful geomancer. If you're wondering what that is think less horse kind of steed and instead imagine what a rhinoceros would look like if somebody made it out of granite.

Only a few groups practice elemental beast summoning though.
