I'm back from the last thread. The one who first gave you some feedback and asked for you to post the pastebins. And i spot part 8 now! Huzza!

I really have been looking forward to these stories more then any other comics or stories I've been following lately. Spotting new writing on these has been a smiling highlight in my day! One of my favorite parts of these stories is the expanding of the circle of camp people and now the little kobold urchin and Argonians with their magical log.

That hes become a protector of the scaly is pretty nice, and i like seeing Anza be feisty.

I enjoyed as always the in depth descriptions of the items and weapons being used and bought. I am a part time blacksmith and i enjoy thinking about what type of blade a specific person would use and how.

I'm also a big fan of spears, easy to make out of left over scrap, easy to learn to use. And you have reach on swords, maces, and axes and you can throw them in a pinch.

As always its a pleasure reading yer stuff! Looking forward to more, keep up the good work!

that one looks about her size, probably doesn't have a ton of draw but a broad head arrow would hurt like hell, you could probably hunt rabbits and such with it. I honestly would expect them to use slings...id like to see a pic of one using an atlatl and throwing spears. those would lend themselves well to a being that needed the extra leverage and heft to their throws.

Well welcome back, glad you could have a read.
>Spotting new writing on these has been a smiling highlight in my day!
Well thank you, and I'm glad I could be of help! Too bad about the delay on 8, between writers block, awful sleep, and stuff that needs to be done I just haven't been able to write as fast.
>little kobold urchin and Argonians with their magical log
Ho ho slow your roll there, the wizard might decide to play the winner and do something silly. He is an elf, after all, they're prone to bouts of stupidity stemming from supreme arrogance.

Also those aren't Argonians. (this >>11484152 is one though) I'll reveal that there's three lizardmen races, four anthro feline races, (and only one are slutty catbeasts) a race of weirdo little fox people, and of course the kobolds along with a !!secret!! race that's closely related to them. Don't ask, you won't get an answer.
>protector of the scaly
Thonvar is going through some emotional changes now that he's been forced to be out in the real world and not an iron-age neety weirdo. I wouldn't call him a protector of all things scaly, but... Don't touch his wife, don't insult his wife, don't threaten his wife. Those are big mistakes, and honestly being in such a high-stress environment is starting to wear on him so his patience is pretty thin.
>I enjoyed as always the in depth descriptions of the items and weapons being used and bought.
It's like fantasy Tom Clancy! :D

>I am a part time blacksmith
I see >>11484015 and >>11484096 there, looking pretty sweet. Not quite sure how you're going to add the dark-colored effect on the sword, I'm sure you could fuck up traditional bluing to get the desired result. As for his sword yeah, I was holding off on detailing it until it was a bit more appropriate to compare it to other stuff. I knew what I wanted, I just didn't want to give him a falchion and call it a day. So... It's kind of shaped like a kukri without the bend, but much longer. 1/2
>>
>>11483932
>>11485232 2/2
I was hesitant to go too much into the actual origins of the blade, but now that I have an opportunity to expand on that... Well, why not? It's magical in nature, but still unenchanted, so I haven't specifically contradicted myself anywhere. (I don't think) I should note that the style of magical steel used is not at all common, actually these "magical metals" are only worked in a handful of places and the arctic wasteland is one of them. I'm not sure if I'll ever explain what's going on there, but the products of the Skyfire Forge are going to be featured here and there and play a pivotal role.

>I'm also a big fan of spears, easy to make out of left over scrap, easy to learn to use.
Reachmen love them because you can stab a guy from a horse pretty easy, but they're not so effective in one-on-one combat if the other guy bats it out of the way. (as we've seen with Thonvar merely getting a busted lip) They favor swords as a backup weapon because they don't often have much in the way of armor, so being able to quickly transition from long range to short is critical.

They also don't use magic either, not in the traditional sense, which is why they use throwing spears and short, powerful bows too. A horde of them can fight as a mixed unit very well as long as they can keep moving.

>As always its a pleasure reading yer stuff! Looking forward to more, keep up the good work!
Thank you! I'm not sure if I'll work on 9 immediately, I'm writing some more lore stuff.

>>11484952
It's a bit bizarre, I have the kobolds with reptilian ears tucked right under their horns. I almost had them like >>11484305 until I decided the look of horns rather than big, pointy ears breaking up the outline of the head. By the way, that particular kobold? Red? That's Anza's figure almost exactly, it's what I imagined as her proportions would be including the little curves of her "breasts."

Color is kind of close, but the eyes/ears/head/etc are definitely not.

Just finished this.

>As your kobold matures, you may be surprised one morning to discover it attempting to worship your genitals as you wake. This is completely normal and healthy, and is a natural outgrowth of their long heritage as draconic servants. For the sake of your kobold's psychological health and happiness, as well as the quality of your relationship with it as its owner, it is highly recommended that you encourage it to continue this behavior. You will find that your kobold can be quite gentle and loving in this capacity!

Yeah those are old pics. I did an oil quench and a normalizing heat leaving the forge scale on it then brushed it with a bit of ammonia to let it get a little pitting then used a wire wheel rather then a belt sander to finish it, its not as old and pitted as i would like but its sufficiently dark.

Also about the added lizard and other races, nice! I had just assumed since they were taller and strong looking that they were argonians.

Its cool you take the time to respond so thoroughly to people who read yer stuff and posted about it. And i would never dream of asking for spoilers or hints!

World building is fun and your story shouldent be rushed if you wish to add more in depth backstory and history to it. The more detail the better in my opinion. Like the clan of the cave bear books, little items people carried with them being described as they carved them or how someone was weaving snare traps. All that stuff just makes me feel like i am right there. Your story does this well, when she found the little corroded copper coin and went pawing through the pine needles and dirt looking for more stuff i really felt like i could be there helping dig around with the scavengers. I remember the smell of wet pine dirt from digging for stuff in the woods as a kid. This is one of the main reasons i am hooked on yer stuff, fantastic description...well that and super comfy kobold sex.

I had that thought shortly after I replied, actually. Either way, sounds good and really neat that you put the effort of that in.

>I had just assumed since they were taller and strong looking that they were argonians.
You and a bunch of other people, it's the use of "Reach" that puts people in that frame of mind I think. As I've explained in the last thread (I think) Thonvar's homeland has more in common with the Whiterun hold than anything else. Had they stayed, we'd be talking about bread moss and how flat everything is, but I didn't feel like making fantasy Iowa a central part of the story. (of course because they have to go to koboldsville they can't stay there anyway)
>Its cool you take the time to respond so thoroughly to people who read yer stuff and posted about it.
Thank you, I make a point to do this because it's a good habit to have. It also a good chance to clear up misconceptions, if enough people are privy to what I have in my head then I don't need to always explain that, where we're going, we don't need no Tamriel. I pretty much hate the shit out of Argonian lore and the Khajiit stuff is almost tolerable, so I admit I'm a tiny bit huffy when the comparison is made. Partially because somebody said I ripped off Skyrim with the sky-themed stuff and "wind guide you" but I came up with that back in like 2002, no lie I was actually kind of pissed. Bethesda doesn't have a monopoly on being able to rip shit right out of European mythology and I don't care what anyone says otherwise. I mean what the fuck, I made the Reach more or less redheaded cossacks and I know their Gamebryo abortion wouldn't be able to handle that.

What I should do is make a damn map, that'll put it to rest. I just have all this writing to do...

>And i would never dream of asking for spoilers
That's good because I'm really, really bad at keeping secrets. :(

Oh fuck it let's make this one a two-parter too. 1/2

>World building is fun and your story shouldent be rushed if you wish to add more in depth backstory and history to it.
My problem right now is my lore's all kind of fucked up the more I tweak it. An Unlikely Bride has already completely nuked a story that takes place a little later during what I'll call the "imperial age" for lack of a better term, everything in the north begins to consolidate under a single king, the southern lands pretty much split into three major kingdoms. Streydor becomes... more or less a theocratic military hegemony too. All of this happens because <something> falls and <something> does the <something> and changes <something> as we know it. All these random dangers that Thonvar's afraid of begin to wane, covens of witches, evil summoners, portals to demonic realms, and random zombie infestations happen less and less as religious orders start rising to stamp them out.

I'm not mad about it, a bit disappointed, but it is improving things as I eliminated a HUGE inconsistency in the lore.

>The more detail the better in my opinion.
>All that stuff just makes me feel like i am right there. Your story does this well
Thanks! That might be because I type with my eyes closed sometimes and imagine it happening as I write. It's weird, I narrate it and live it and write it all at once, my writing style kind of blends the narrator and the character's thinking so... It's a bit hard to explain the process. Glad you like it though, I really feel like I can make it come alive using this method.

>well that and super comfy kobold sex
Writing Anza and Thonvar in intimate moments is surprisingly difficult, I don't like writing it for one and for two I'm not able to "become" the scene that well. My other characters? Absolutely. Even girl-on-girl space lizards is easy. (was, their sex scenes are gone from Thera-2556)

For some reason the kobold on human is just hard. That's where my greatest effort is, I'm glad you appreciate it.

Oh, it's a combination of the shape and shader used for the eyelashes, the pupils not looking like they're looking at the same thing (They're looking in completely different locations.) and the irises not being consistently round, as well as the lighting on the face feeling a bit off. (The last one might be imaginary though.) The entire eyeball for something going for that level of realism could do well with being modeled out instead of painted on.

Ok, you may have some good points there, but I honestly don't find any of that creepy, the overall shading, smoothness and the inherent design and proportions make it look cartoony enough for me to ignore most inconsistencies. Kobold lifespans, short because small, or long because dragon?
>>
>>11508911
can live over 100 years but rarely make it past 35 because weak cannon fodder
>>
>>11508911
In DnD canon, if I remember correctly, they can live over a hundred years before becoming venerable and starting to die of old age, but they rarely live past their twenties or thirties.
They become sexually mature at around 12 years of age. They lay their eggs two weeks after insemination, which proceed to gestate for a further two months. Clutches are usually single eggs, but twins are possible.
I forget how often female kobolds are available for breeding, but if we assume it to be once a month like humans, and year round, it gives a very simple basis for how quickly they can reproduce and keep up with their death rate.

Basically, female kobolds never, ever need to miss an ovulation; they're pregnant for two weeks, lay the egg(s), not pregnant for two weeks or about, and then get knocked up again, putting out an average of 12-15 offspring per year.
>>
>>11510104
I recall fluff saying they can live that long, but the actual age categories for them have them age quickly. I think the 'can' is just in reference to dragonwrought ones.
>>
>>11510766
Nah, kobolds live for a long time and have no set maximum age. They hit middle age at 60, old at 90, and venerable at 120. They die of old age at 120 + Cha years for regular kobolds, 120 + (5 x Cha) years for chromatic dragonwrought kobolds, and 120 + (10 x Cha) years for metalic dragonwrought kobolds. I'm honestly not 100% sure how it would work if they gain more Cha after hitting venerable, but potentially a kobold that manages to raise their charisma fast enough would live forever.

Of course, as usual maximum ages are mostly for player characters. Most people, kobold or not, die before hitting venerable.

I imagine it takes some skill to fuck a kobold girl in a specific hole if she has a cloaca

if the kobold is a boy though then it isn't a problem since bumping dicks with him is just a happy accident
>>
>>11514671
>Anza's a sandy color w/salmon eyes, right?
Her eyes are the pink kind of salmon rather than the orange kind, just for reference. I seriously didn't know there was an orange variety, I've always heard it as being a bit darker than normal pink and a bit more red. As for her scales...

>Indeed her scales were the color of sand, or perhaps seasoned wheat in the summer sun, but it seemed this color was mostly focused to the tender parts of her chest, belly, neck, snout, and... (bagina :DDD)
Also,
>Well, they had to be lips. How else could a thing have a mouth without some way to keep it closed? They weren't like his, not entirely, soft and fleshy with a slightly redder hue than his natural color. These were different, scaly, somewhat rigid, but toward the front they flared out just barely enough for his eye to notice. As if the draconic flesh-magic that made the kobold race had been purposely weaved to make a female, his wife in particular, have just enough appeal to his human preferences to bridge the divide between them.
>From that angle he could see the lower part was softer, more pliable, it fit just slightly behind the upper portion and flared out much like his own lower lip; only far less pronounced.
>Draconic lineage be damned, she had the body of a woman for sure, her neck was thin and inviting, clad in the softest scales that looked like they tasted as sweet as fine mead. Shoulders set at the perfect width, familiar lines of her collar bone and ribs gave way to the exotic pieces of reptile hide on her back as she did a slow turn. Something about him told him to reach out, touch the trail of blunted, horn-like ridges that ran from her head down and down and down; the devices were a rich onyx just like her feminine horns and neat claws.

I think that's all the description she has in the early parts.
>>
Oh dicks I forgot to answer the second part.

>>11514671
>What's the color palette for the kobolds in that setting? Earth tones?
Absolutely. Anza's lack of secondary colors isn't by any means common, but then again nothing about her really is. She's 3'10" which is ridiculously tall for her race, very fair in color, (her back and such where there isn't so much softness is a bit redder/brown but still rather light) very well-manicured everything, and her eyes are a very pleasant shade while most of her peers tend to have yellows and oranges for their eyes. (and many have crappy faded colors of all that, along with actual gray) Really she's the kobold version of a super attractive maiden that's got such an attitude that all her beauty's been wasted.

Most of her species tends to have dark-colored claws and horns, their hides are often browns, and earthy reds. Some have splotches here and there of darker stuff, sometimes out-right black or some dark blue gunmetal shade, but their undersides and soft parts usually fade to a lighter tone. Very rarely will greens of any sort manifest and it's usually with clans that are definitely not the Kozakrim or it's Kjarvangir-based neighbors. There are out-right red (more like rust-colored) kobolds out there, but Anza's folk are more browns, tans, and grays.

On the subject, have you planned a definite end to the story, or are you just going as you go and plan to end when it starts to lose steam
>>
>>11518143
Kobolds in a setting where gunpowder has just started to phase out armor like the 1600s would be more interesting imo.
>>
>>11518204
>tell me you got some more of that good dnd romance soon
Depends on what you mean by romance. If you mean tender moments, sure, if you mean sex, I don't know yet.
>have you planned a definite end to the story?
Yes, though new ideas make me want to not end it there. I've sort of resigned myself to end this particular story where I originally wanted, and if people are interested afterward then continue another. I want to go at least another ten chapters, possibly aim for blackjack, but we'll see.

High Middle Ages is pretty much where I've stopped thinking up stuff for the world that An Unlikely Bride lives in. Really it's just so hard to come up with anything when magic basically does everything gunpowder does but better. Dwarves make some really, really cool stuff about 300ish years after Thonvar and Anza are gone. They build and design what is essentially a programmable clockwork computer, diverging very fucking hard from their normal automatons that are controlled by more or less a synthetic soul. It doesn't really make a huge difference at first, but it does allow for non-magical devices to be built.

So imagine if somebody came up with a mechanical calculator in 600 AD and then just think of the insane shit that would enable.

>>11518919
Yes, I have more of that. I can't really tell this story without it at this point, it has to be through the lens of Thonvar's budding affection for Anza. I tried to pace it as best I could, keeping in mind that people bond absurdly quickly in times of danger.
>>
>>11519068
Oh for most fantasy I prefer a ren/pre-ren setting too I just meant compared to steampunk airships stuff I'd rather see 1600s gunpowder/sabers stuff.

Clockwork shit is always good imo. As for making magic and gunpowder interesting I think the best solution involve enchantment/magic barriers being particularly good against bullets. (in PoE of course guns are great against wizard arcane barriers but in PoE its still like ren-times techwise)
>>
>>11519343
Well my magic is... Less magical? A magical shield is going to get itself wrecked if it tries to stop a crossbow bolt, possibly hurt people because all that magicka/mana (magical essence, really) is kind of solidified into a physical... thing. Like it exists while it's there, and if broken it doesn't just poof, it stays coherent for a bit before dissipating.

I mean theoretically you could make a magical bottle, dust it with fine cobalt glass powder, and then have a talented storm mage fill it with Hurricane Irma before an insanely powerful altermancer flings it across the kingdom where it would break up and release said hurricane right on the keep of the enemy king. Theoretically. Practically something in that chain of events will spiral out of control and kill everyone, possibly beginning with the storm mage who literally vaporizes himself trying to make a whole hurricane.

I'm guessing that bullets become way more of a neat thing than carrying around expensive enchanted stuff or chargestones, right now those are the two main ways mundane normies get by. We see somebody like Ruran having some magical talent, but it's stunted and kind of niche, I hope I've made it clear that magic using isn't as widespread as it is in other universes.

Discovered this story yesterday. Finished part 8 this morning and holy crap I love it and also need more.

Thonvar is such an interesting character. It seems like he'd be a little stiff in person but even though he was thrown into his current situation he loves his smol thicc lizard wife and she loves him and that makes him alright.

Awesome story so far m8. Can't wait to see where it goes.

>>
>>11522474
Thanks, more is on the way but I'm only writing bits and pieces here. (sorry)

His personality is what I would call "severe" like most reachfolk, as you might have noticed they have super strict elements of their culture. (drinking needs to be supervised, duty is honor and your honor is everything, etc) I'll reveal that their "fire-blood" is not just something people say because of their red hair, the people of the Reach are known for fierce rage and it's why their neighbors in Rangvaal and the fjordlands mostly stay the fuck away. Thonvar is "stoneborn" and grew up in the western part of the Reach, the main portion is inhabited by the horseborn. As you might have guessed they're nomads and they are ferocious, a tribe of 1000+ people is not to be fucked with because they ALL can fight. Thonvar's a hell of a horseman, but he can't hold a candle to the tribes out in the steppes and mossy canyons.

So yeah they're kind of hard people, but they are capable of incredible compassion and charity. Thonvar doesn't love Anza yet, but she's his wife, he's giving his best effort to try.

>>11523774
"Illusionists" are not so much a specific type of magical art, but rather an entire group. Altermancers are part of it, but so are sapiomancers who specifically fool the mind regardless of intent. Whitemages who specialize in sapiomancy can fill you with euphoria and incredible fearlessness, as well as making your senses sharper. Blackmages can put whispers in your head, blind you, make you smell awful things, feel things that aren't there, and so on and so on.

Illusion is a very difficult thing, one natural dispel against harmful tricks is loud noises. War drums are quite literally a tactical device, reachfolk chant since drums on horses is hard, kobolds use something like taiko drums, some southerner armies have bodhrans, and of course the dwarves have gigantic mechanical "thunderbugs."

Whitemages can use the drums to affect friendlies, but it is very hard.
>>
>>11524357
Please, take your time. Ive never written a story much less done worldbuilding but I can only assume rushing would be the last thing you wanna do.
>>
>>11523774
Also I forgot to say in >>11524357 that when illusion does succeed in big battles it is fucking incredible. What your enemy hears is just a different type of drumming, maybe a little flourish or something, but a grandmaster illusionist can literally plant specific orders inside a formation's head. So if a commander is skilled and has a powerful mage at his disposal, he can have infantry do really advanced stuff like rush up full speed and expose themselves, and at the last second a "SHIELD WALL, LADS!" blasts into everyone's head and box in flanking cavalry with a few thousand spears closing in to stab some motherfuckers.

Thonvar's great grandfather, a renowned wight-whisperer, was supported by a battlemage from the Espean Islands and he could sing away the dark wizard's storms and make his dead army fall to their knees. Think of magic as a transfer of energy, in his case mana from his very soul, his ally was able to literally use his lungs and throat as an instrument of war.

There's a bit of theomancy specific to reachfolk in that the very wind itself (or rather the essence of the natural wind spirit) can be tapped and manipulated, Brynjar's true power came not from himself but from the Reach itself and from the incredible belief his army had for him.

>>11524314
You don't know how hard it is to write Anza's dialogue, I sometimes sit for ten minutes wondering how to convey big things with simple, limited vocabulary.

>>11524406
You're right, it's not a good idea to rush things. World building to the scale I'm at is frustrating sometimes because I have a cool idea that just pops in my head and then I have to kill it in the crib just because it'll step on toes. Take the Reach for example, what makes them so community-oriented and loyal to a fault? They have nothing. They're poor. They sometimes starve. If they had nice things, if they were successful, they would be like the men to the east. Rangvaal is the way it is because the forest has plenty.

Sorry, /scaly/ has just too many bad apples. I don't post my writing there because it attracts real weirdos, it's not worth it. Awhile back some random guy from this site moved heaven and earth to contact me some place else so he could spill spaghetti on me, it was very bizarre. I don't normally feel uncomfortable about people online, but yeah that time I did. So I didn't go to /scaly/ for about two months, ended that entire story, and just haven't updated the one I have semi-public. I went back there when I started doing An Unlikely Bride and saw it's a bit worse than I remember.

Of course there's plenty of, "no you need to make these entirely fictional aliens how I say because it's realistic," kind of people who are vibrant examples of Duning-Kruger at work. Sorry, not sorry, my scaly aliums have tits and that isn't going to change.

>>
Okay, back on the real computer to do some real writing. What a fucking day.

>>11536025
Actually it was all of it, this was the part of the planned story that had to be revised somewhat and it seemed like an appropriate point to introduce a few character types I had intended to insert later came earlier in the form of tribal crocpeople and Runa which was changed from a little orc whelp to a kobold who doesn't know how to 'bold thanks to totalgarbage making me think of it. That isn't all, but it's most of it. Just some rewrites and frustration, I get frustrated easily because I have to have everything just perfect.

I really, really like hard realism as much as possible so I can't fault the sentiment. However when it comes to, "ya but lizzers don't got no tits!" and other idiocy, I have to ask what the fuck they're doing because for a lot of this there isn't a real-world equivalent at all. Kobolds? I've made them definitely draconic in origin (probably) and crossed with something else. Or maybe not, who knows? It's all rumor and myth! Kobolds having vaginas and little buttholes is just par for the course when we're dealing with magical inter-order breeding.

"Realism" for these people is just an excuse to say anything beyond, "well I don't like it and that's my personal opinion!" It's not realism. Realism implies plausibility, a *reason* for something, it does not mean, "make fantasy and fiction emulate your unremarkable life in Ohio."

Sometimes I wish I had friends. :(

Seriously though, as somebody who has made a very huge world that's kind of heavy on the detail here and there, my advice is to be careful with your structuring of it. Every time you add something, just real quickly compare it to other stuff out there and see if it passes muster. Since a lot of this is kinda old and also partially thought up when I was literally a kid there have been a few inconsistencies. Part of it came from changing the term "mystieria" into "magicka" as the environmental counterpart to one's own self-generated mana. I kind of got obsessed with the name and made the magic system a lot more dumb than it has to be.

Oh and the introduction of Thonvar into the world has basically turned it upside down in places, I won't reveal why, and it's kind of broke some stuff. I need to redo the orcs now, so, pat yourselves on the back /kobold/ because you did this.
>just get rid of orcs nobody likes them
No!

>>11549828
Don't worry, the dragons don't actually have tits. At least not the big ones. Or the little ones.

As for the kobold clans and how they work, all shall be revealed in time.

Don't beat yourself up to much about this cause you have made the effort if your words are genuine. Little hiccup in the road and you're proven better for it by trucking through and posting it instead of letting it hang you up for months on end

Well I must be doing something right, people tell me my writing is good and I achieved a quad set of dubs without even trying. Truly, the gods must be smiling down on me.

Seriously though, this whole thing tickles the part of my brain that wants perfection on the first run, I hate redoing work like this. Writing is different, it's a long process of constantly improving and trimming and it feels a bit like gardening. This... This is like realizing I forgot to put a footer in a retaining wall. Not only is that frustrating and demoralizing, but it's also embarrassing because I'm starting to notice things I don't like (even if they aren't necessarily mistakes) that make me want to nuke large portions of it all and start over. That would be bad, it would basically kill An Unlikely Bride off entirely.

>>
>>11550514
I'm in the same camp with my art now actually. It's something you honestly have to work past for the sake of progress, cause once you finish AUB you can look back and pick it apart for the eventual rewrite like my friend is doing on his 450K word autism storm. Make a foot note of where consistancies and awkwardness in working or situations may arise and learn from them also read more. My problem is I dont read enough and its effecting my ability to describe scenes in a manner to convey my ideas properly
>>
Outside of "racist wannabe dragons in a cave", what kinda cultures/settings do you like applying to Kobolds? Any sort of aesthetic you like putting on the little dudes?
>>
>>11550599
Yeah... I'm not doing that. Not this time, haha! AUB (this is easier, thank you) isn't going to go through a rewrite ever, maybe a few editing bits here and there and some trim, but I think it could maybe be at the dollar store paperback level. I might be wrong and misjudging my own work, but I don't think it's bad writing.

What I'm doing is using this story as a reference point since all the things that touch it are fine, it also kills those urges to burn it all to the ground.

I think I might do something else in this universe after this, let's see how I feel when it's done.

I just meant that Dark Souls' lore is just empty hints with no substance, save for the intro cinematic and exploring NPC and item descriptions. I just meant that if you didn't want to spoil anything you could make vague hints to if your own setting resembled anything from history or the aesthetics of another setting.

Fuck I wish I remembered how to play Dwarf Fortress...

As for your setting, yes, continue. It's interesting, how does the class/caste system work specifically?
>>
>>11551374
Cheers and will do.

Well, Kobolds are descended from dragons, remember that.

>Priests in each city maintain huge records of family trees and records of marriage and offspring.
>Those who lack draconic traits or are considered 'flawed' offspring are raised as serfs
>Your parents can land you in serfdom but upon hatching those with unwanted traits, deformities, or were considered puny or sickly wind up in serfdom.
>Serfs are as close to slaves as Kobolds get in this setting.
>Lifelong farmers, miners, servants, chamber pot emptiers...
>Worst jobs, paid a weekly stipend by the state.
>Room, board and equipment were provided but any luxuries outside of a slab of stone and a bowl of food a day had to be bought with that stipend.

Lowest class sucked but there was still Crafter, Warrior, and Priest above it.
>>
>Crafters have it better than serfs.
>Shit the serfs chopped down, dug up or pulled from the farms was given to the crafters.
>Crafters, well, craft shit.
>Chefs, blacksmiths, woodcarvers, construction workers, merchants.
>Those who lack the skills to work as a crafter, in any of their professions, are shunted down to serf.
>Those who excel at talents outside their caste, marry well, or produce far more desirable offspring may be elevated to the ranks of the warriors or even the priesthood

>Warriors fill many rolls, hunter, city guard, standing army, logistical officer...
>Warrior stock normally are large and muscled, with horns or bright scales, clearly showing draconic heritage.
>Almost equal to the priests, but their lives are still governed by their god and therefor their god's messengers.
>Warriors may become crafters or priests if they are rendered incapable of military service, or moved all the way down to serf if they commit a heinous enough crime.

Social fluidity is somewhat rare but possible, and normally has mixed reactions overall. Serfs fuckin' love it when someone's demoted and joins their ranks, whereas classes like crafters and warriors see caste changes as mildly amusing or surprising events. Anyone elevating to priesthood is a big deal, normally with a bit of pushback from established priests.
>>
>Priests ruled the city gathering and studying the writing of their goddess and working to translate the language of the gods.
>The priesthood itself was a multi-tiered caste, a caste system within a caste system.
>Primary jobs of the priesthood was governance, holding religious ceremonies, and arranging marriages/breeding pairs.
>The sole responsibility of the priesthood was returning kobold-kind to draconic divinity.
>Each generation, those with the most pronounced draconic features or the most successful and talented within their castes are paired up in arranged marriages.
>Concepts such as love and courtship are secondary to the overriding need to breed a truly draconic kobold.
>Eggs produced out of wedlock or from extramarital affairs almost always become serfs, with the parents stigmatized by their transgression.
>Each city's priesthood varies in their rituals, practices, and what traits they'd seek when arranging marriages.
>Some cities are notorious for their corrupt priesthoods, with outlandish rituals and often taking the most draconic (and therefore attractive) members of each generation and arranging marriages between them and the priesthood themselves.

There's some more shit but there's the caste system in a nutshell. Anything else in particular you'd like to know?

This is actually the best way I think you could handle kobolds, so brownie points to you Anon. But now this got me thinking.

>Dwarf-Bolds: Stockier stature, much more sturdy, most common scale colors are stone gray and dark brown, have thicker tails. Has light sensitivity.

>Elf-Bolds: Taller and lankier, more agile and lithe. Most common scale colors are dark green and sky blue, tails have become smaller and lighter. Do not have light sensitivity.

>Orc-Bolds: Bigger. Just bigger and stronger overall. They are usually some shade of bright green regarding scale color. Tails are EXTRA THICC, and used as weapons in battle. Less likely to be born with light sensitivity, but still possible.

>Human-Bold: Taller, but not as much as the E-Bs, tougher, but not as much as the D-Bs, stronger, but not as much as the O-Bs. Overall improvement, but intelligence is the strongest improvement. Scale color in this race is very differing; a purple, a black, a white, a silver, a red, most concieveable colors are possible. Tails have become more prehensile. Much less likely to be born with light sensitivity, so much so that it has affects less than 0.1% of the population. Has begun to show signs of cleavage, but they are still relatively flat.

And so on. Damn, you got me pumped up.

I'd imagine them as being the cause for those batshit crazy types of kobolds who trap everything. Since gobbos are scrawny little tinkering shits that gravitate towards chaos with no sense of self preservation the way I run them, I would say that kobbos would be at a high risk of physical and mental ailments. They would be somewhat smaller in stature, and have something socicety-like as they try to make sense of the madness present in most of their minds. Life expectancy would be low, and the only reason they aren't wiped out yet is because they fuck like rabbits with anything that will not fight back.

With proper care, they can be cured of their ailments and be some of the craftiest minds in the land, and some have even worked on the worlds most elaborate structures.

Alright, this is getting more and more fun to think about the further we get into it.

Stuntier species from Gnomes & Halflings would be on par, with Dwarves being a slight step up and being probably more preferable in the average comfort zone,

Humans or humanoid species equivalent to Human height or girth would probably be in the beefier territory, maybe joked about as indulgent for size queens.

Orcs and such definitely for them size queens

Ogres+ you're gonna need to do some warm up stretches beforehand or you're in for some shit making childbirth look like a queef.

Not the only race with a negative stat modifier, orcs get a -2 as well.

I think they wanted to try and stop people playing scaly fetish races, or at least stop the best scaly fetish race. We just gotta find ways to compensate.

They really do.

Oh yeah, I just mean it's presented as being pretty vague in general.

I don't play much D&D anymore, so I can't quite say how they're that different. From what I remember, the Lizardfolk have something of a pseudo-Vulcan approach to things and react accordingly based on what's practical. I don't know if that's changed or if I'm remembering it incorrectly.

My various lizard peoples aren't that inspired by D&D lore, kobold included, I took some stuff and some tropes but I ultimately took them in another direction.

>>11598262
Oh I think you would like them even less if you knew what they were really up to, and I'm not talking about those two knife-ears in particular.

Will you take a Part 12 of An Unlikely Bride instead?

I kind of rushed this one because I'm having health problems and the allergy meds are making me loopy. Let me know if you see anything shitty or out of place.

I spend a lot of my day thinking about it, so when I do actually write it flows pretty easy. Unfortunately if I happen to imbibed anything that causes even mild inebriation it just goes to hell right away.

Benadryl is not kind to my creativity, so this one was a chore.

Loving the story, this is some really good content. Have you considered making more stories? Probably open a Patreon in the far future?
>>
>>11602398
You really think the writing's worth a Patreon? I don't know what to say to that. I mean I talked about it being good enough for paperback, but I wasn't that serious about that comment.

To be quite honest I do have more stories here and there, but I don't like their quality level or subject matter enough to show online. I wish I was more comfortable with it, but I can't help myself when I look at what I've written and feel this big heap of disappointment toward it. On the outside it probably sounds like a self-esteem issue, but it's actually not that at all. What's in my way is an embarrassing and shameful obsessive pursuit of a feeling I had once when I thought about it, that initial moment where I mumbled, "oh that would be a neat thing." There's hundreds of little broken worlds I've thought up and buried because I can't bear to look at them, they start haunting my thoughts and I can't make them feel like they felt when they were born. I'm too afraid of wasting things to rebuild them, and I'm too sentimental to destroy them.

For a long time I thought my chronic unhappiness was tied up in a bunch of other things, but I've come to realize those trivialities are nothing compared to these unfinished realms I've woven. If this general wasn't so enthusiastic and kind, and I do sincerely mean that, I definitely wouldn't have started AUB and I probably wouldn't have been feeling very okay right now.

By the way, that's a nice pic-related you have there. Who's the artist?

Hey if you have plenty of ideas, then maybe it's worth the penny to get it of your head.

Maybe this can lead you to an opportunity to revisit those realms you've created with more confidence. You have made a name for yourself here in this thread. I'm sure you would get some love in the Scalie and HMOFA threads too, if you haven't already.

Just don't let it get to your head, or make a Patreon right now. Start making a name for yourself, like Snekguy.

Also I have no idea who the artist is. Found it in e621 and it's tagged as unknown artist.
>>
>>11600568
Lizardfolk are still summarized by an alien pragmatism, no real changes there.
>>
>>11603181
Well... Revisiting with confidence isn't going to happen, I don't even have that now, but I do feel an obligation because people like it. Even if it isn't perfect, I can at least swallow the fact that it's out there because somebody enjoys it.

I know these feelings I have aren't very normal or those of a well-adjusted person, but I actually have no idea why I put a name to it this time. Well I guess there's no turning back, I should probably just accept the mild sensation of terror I feel right now. Worrying about it is stupid and pointless, I can't go back in time and post anonymously.

>>11603245
I should channel the way of the lizardfolk. Seriously though, I'm glad they kept that even if it's been kind of hit or miss in it's implementation at times. I don't remember much of their culture since it never came up, but I do remember that racial/cultural personality aspect. Of course in the middle of writing this I decided to go look it all up myself and I find the lizardfolk a lot less interesting than I remember. Being able to distract them with food makes them seem just so feral and to me that just feels so cheap, they have no society or culture besides being higher-level enemies for a party to fight.

Anything can be worth a patreon anon, and if you intend to write a bit anyways, there's little downside to running one to incentivize/encourage yourself

Yes, you're right. I'm not sure how I'll feel about this universe after I'm done with this story, but I might have another story in the works if I'm feeling up for it.
