I was sorta embarrassed going up to buy a few since this is the first time someone besides my close friends or family has seen me with Lego, but then I remembered she got engaged at graduation and then her fiancé ran away and she dropped out of college and felt better about myself.

Then I got all three of the Gong Rockers in the box, so, karma I guess.

Also got two cereal Lloyds, Green Ninja, Zane, Wu, Jungle Garmadon and Pajama Garmadon.

Not a feature on my old camera because it's just a cheap point-and-shoot. Not a feature on my new one either, because it's just a newer point-and-shoot from 2016 instead of 2008.

A nice DSLR would have an adjustable F-stop, but I picked this because I need a tiny camera to be able to shoot Lego Quest at extremely close range.

Is get a bunch of Skelton arms that are the "bent with clips" kind (part 93609 and 93061)
I think they're the best looking and best to pose out of skeleton arms. The droid arms like in your pic are too long and can't hold things in a neutral position well.
Also like the other guy said, ninjago has some good skeleton parts, though some of the heads are too cartoony for me (but may work for an ogre Skelton or something)

Not every single set goes up in value. First few waves of Ultra Agents are still relatively cheap on after market, for example.

Why spend money you don't have to?
I only warned because I've done the same. I want a set, don't get it for whatever reason and then kick myself later when I could have saved a couple bucks.
And let's not use ultra agents as a example. Most people don't care for it. People really really like ninjago

Are there no new, small point and shoots with that type of thing? I've got an old Canon Powershot SX130 from close to a decade ago that's nigh-unkillable (it survived being carried unprotected in the front pocket of a backpack for years), small and nearly flat profile when it's off but with a full mode dial including program, aperture/shutter priority and full manual. I went looking for a similar newer camera and apparently every brand- not just Canon- has completely gotten rid of the 'tiny but full features' camera market, you either get a compact point and shoot with automatic only or you get a 'small' superzoom with a fuckhuge lens and still no manual.

>What camera did you get?

I looked around for the smallest camera I could find that had the most ability to do close-range macro stuff, but ended up getting a Canon PowerShot Elph 360 HS, upgraded from my old Canon PowerShot Elph SD790 IS. The thing I really love about PowerShot Elphs is their great ability to take macro pics. I picked this model specifically for its large depth of focus compared to similar cameras that met all the other specs.

I have a Canon DSLR that I use for my job, but I brought it home one weekend to test out and it was way too bulky for shooting minifigs, so that was right out even without having to buy a special macro lens for it. These PowerShot Elphs are nice because they're so tiny and the lens is set low enough that you can easily shoot from below minifig eye level.

If you're looking to take pictures like >>6475167 where you're fairly far away from the model, then a DSLR is probably best.

Trying to make this posable by swapping out the floppy joints for more sturdy ones, but I'm running into issues with the back half of the body being to heavy to be posed. I've tried clicking hinge joints and a large ball joint but they can't hold it up very well. I guess I could transfer one of the clicking joints from the neck and see if that works, but I may just deal with needing two supports to hold it in a flying position (probably a good practice anyway)

Why does the Lego site have Pick-a-brick and Bricks and Pieces as two separate things? Is there a difference?

>>6485922
Anon, I've got the Viking ship and it is a nice set, but i'm quite sure the Haunted House has more pieces and details.
Go for the house.
>>
>>6486279
Pick-A-Bricks tend to be more common/popular/generic pieces. They're sometimes cheaper and iirc, you can earn VIP points on them. I think they tend to be intended more for the in-store experience, where you can grab a cup and just fill it from various bins of parts.

Bricks and Pieces are really intended more for specific or specialized replacement or otherwise spare parts.

pic quality is dependent on lens a lot more than body, but i'll agree go for nikon, canon is making all their lenses have that stupid free-floating focal ring which means 1. no manual adjustment without the camera being powered on and 2. no muscle memory or tactile feel for when you're at the end of the focal range

functions i dunno, the magic lantern custom firmware for canon DSLRs adds a fuckload of extra functions

So far its the wing/wedge plates and the trans green plates from bag 1 that I have noticed the weird feeling on them. And as someone who has built like 4 of the lepin modulars, a couple of their pirate ship knockoffs and has bought a TON of chink minifigs, yeah, the feeling is very similar.

Didnt lego say they were opening a new official factory under their brand in china? I know they use factories for stuff like baseplates and CMFs, but I seem to remember them opening an "official" one not too long ago.

Eh, to be fair, I have to believe based on knowledge of how those factories work, lego were essentially caught between a rock and a hard place. Basically "If you want to use OUR factories for anything, there are going to be knockoffs". Apple have had to deal with that shit for forever now.

And I also wonder if maybe this is them testing some different types and mixtures of plastics, maybe working towards that "biodegradable" bricks meme dream that they have.
>>
>>6487295
>"biodegradable" bricks meme dream
This scares me. I was doing yardwork last week and found a minifig from my childhood that had been lost/buried in a big house cleaning years and years ago and somehow worked its way to the surface, and you're telling me rather than finding that robot-faced, mismatched-leg remnant of my innocence Lego would rather have it turn into potting soil?
>>
>>6487297
As far as I know, biodegradable plastics require a significant quantity of heat to degrade. Shouldn't be an issue for Lego unless you're building inside a thermal composter.
>>
>>6487297
All in the name of "environmentally friendly".

Like I said, its a meme dream. Lego is meant to last, stand the test of time, outlive us all.

AYYs landing here thousands of years after our deaths are meant to find our creations, still pristine (maybe a cracked torso or two). But because of "muh environment".......blah.

Even on my multiple hulkbusters, the only parts that I fear for are the ball joints, but so far ive been lucky and they click and hold just fine.

I don't know. I still haven't found the rest of my old collection- I know parts of it are still buried in the fucking driveway ("thankfully" now it's been so long I wouldn't remember what's missing anyway and have money to buy new things; for the first time in my life I have an actual electric Lego train waiting to be built, something I only dreamed about in my youth- believe me I spent many hours drooling over the Metroliner), but until then, I might leave him dirty, cardinal sins of Lego cleaning be damned.

Also it turns out he isn't from one of the water sets, he's from that Insectoids theme, specifically this lil' guy 'cause he was only in two sets and I sure as hell didn't have the larger one.
>>
>>6487324
Its all over aliexpress. If you look at the new MOC labelled sets, some of the listings give bios/show pictures of the creators of said sets.

Yep, black mark indicates it's of Danish make.

That peasant torso isn't unique to Ninjago City, which could be a factor. The red torso is unique, as far as I know, and features arm printing, which is more commonly found on CMFs. Check the other unique figures as well for the black mark and general quality; it'd be interesting to see the distribution.

>I don't know why the lego version doesn't have a hole in the stud, seems like it would give it much more functionality

Could be a few reasons. Possibly because Lego engineers feel that it would put too much stress on the piece because there isn't enough material.

I know this sounds like a shillpost, but Lego (in theory) designs parts to last for decades, while Laygo doesn't give a shit if the part snaps next week.

Gotta go with the Destiny's Bounty. Most of the TLJ designs don't look that great
>>
>>6488149
Why do you buy lego? To build, to display, to play with, as a token of culture to decorate your house with?

Destiny's bounty wins on almost every aspect: more interesting build, more finished appearance, unique style.

The walker has the advantage of being starwars so slightly less weird to display on your mantle if you care about such things. But even then, it's not nearly as elegant or iconic as the original AT-AT, and IMO looks worse on display. The Destiny's Bounty (and most of the Ninjago Movie sets) have mostly avoided the cartoon look of the other Ninjago waves.

>>
>>6489025
Here we go, this is the important one. It's a Ninjago City exclusive, but not CMF plastic. That suggests to me that the arm printing on Kai was the deciding factor in being produced in China.
>>
>>6489051
>How do you guys walk into a store go to the lego section check for sealed lego and walk it back to the register. 21 and I feel shame doing this especially when I leave near hordes and Spanish and blacks.

37 and at some point you have to realize that you're an adult and you don't need to care if a bunch of strangers at Walmart see a stranger looking at Legos. I stand in the aisle and fondle CMF bags to get the ones I want and don't give a fuck because I'm an adult.

The cashier who rings up your purchases has a low-level job as a store cashier. Why should you give a fuck what they think?
>>
>>6489051
If you actually feel shame buying lego, maybe it's a sign that your priorities are in the wrong place. The social stigma around adults buying toys DO exist for a reason. If you don't have yourself set up with a steady job and a place of your own, you might subconciously be telling yourself that now is not the time to be buying lego. If already are supporting yourself, then fuck it, why are you ashamed?

people notice and care about what you're doing a hell of a lot less than you think. trust me, I've been there.

on the off-chance they do actually notice you, and on the off chance they pay attention to the fact that you're buying lego, and on the off chance they don't assume you're buying it for a sibling or otherwise, and on the off chance they deem it inappropriate for an adult to like/buy lego, and on the off chance they think a person shouldn't be allowed to do whatever the fuck they want with their money, and on the off chance they think it's acceptable to point this out to you in public, they will look like the retards in that situation, not you

I got you on the feel guide my friend. Start by shaking the bags. You are trying to listen for the distinct sound the slightly softer plastic of the laptop makes. It's very noticable and only a few things in he series use that plastic. Kai's armor, the laptop, and Zane's backpack. once you've narrowed that down, you can start to feel the packages. Number 18 has the mug that will feel sorta like a head, but with the handle. You can also feel for the laptop itself. It's flat without any bumps. Once you've confirmed both the accessories, you got the GIT girl. EZ.

Hey Lego General

Haven't messed with Lego bricks in years but still have some from when I was a kid. They've been sitting in a big cardboard box and recently I decided to clean/sort them all out. Obviously a lot of dust and dirt has collected in the box over the years and some of the pieces are dirty/broken due to negligence. I've been separating them into two tubs: "fairly clean and need to be cleaned."
The closer I get to the bottom of the box the more the dust and dirt collects and I was wondering if there's some kind of life hack to easily separate the loose dust from the pieces, otherwise I was going to take an afternoon to sort all the pieces out by hand and clean them later.

Not all that upset about broken pieces, and even used a bent ladder piece in a recent MOC. The way I see it, a bent/broken piece is one of a kind and can be used for aesthetic purposes because I'm a filthy heretic.
>>
>>6493484
