None because a lot of my sets are still in their respective boxes with only a few medium sized used sets which are displayed.

Put together the Scarif and Carbon Freezing Chamber sets over the last week.

Just as a set, I really like Scarif! It's immediately recognizable as a scene from Rogue One and while it's just a platform and a door, they look great! I also love getting another orange container for the hovertank and the Shoretrooper minifigs are awesome.

That being said, the amount time/parts it took to put together just this door and platform was pretty disproportionate to the end result. There's definitely a "that's it?" feeling once you finish. I wish they'd put parts towards making some kind of room after the doorway instead of all the parts that went into making the gimmicks.

A nice set and I'm very happy with it for what I paid ($20), but definitely a set to pick up on sale.

>>6439699
Would be awful nice if there was an updated OT TIE Fighter among those Han Solo movie sets.
>>
>>6439843
Cool anon. Gonna ask, which one is better? Imperial hovertank or clone hovertank? Both are 24$ at my local store.

Carbon freezing party!

This set I straight up love, and unlike the Scarif set I felt very satisfied with the substance of the end result. I was a bit surprised at some of the number of large pre-formed pieces (such as the stairs), but that's mainly because I'd never seen those parts before. Some fun gimmicks and sweet minifigs, it's the bounty hunters' new hang out!

>>6439848
Can't say! I'm trying to keep my Lego Star Wars to Imperial era stuff, so I haven't picked up the clone hovertank (though it's sooo tempting, the minifigs alone look great and I've already planned what Clone Wars sets I'd buy next to go with it, haha). The clone hovertank seems a bit undersized though, while I feel the Imperial hovertank is just the right size relative to minifigs.

I kind of want to make a mini sushi bar but I have no idea what pieces I should use, doesn't help that this guy is going for $10 on ebay and I'll probably need a couple of this figure.
I may end up trying to change the second floor on the Parisian Restaurant into a sushi bar.

He'll be regular cmf price once all stores get him in, don't worry too much.
I've been thinking a lot about making a sushi bar myself, too, actually, but I've no idea what direction to take it, both "functionally" and architecturally.

Haha, i have this all the time. But i just really like highly detailed and dense things. This moc is basically just a fancy small wall with vertical sliding door, but it took me a good two full days to get things working and uses a bajillion pieces for snotting and covering up all those snotting to smooth it out on all sides.

Some of the structure sets from Ninjago might be alright for inspiration.
I tend to trawl sites like eurobricks, searching for relevant keywords to get nice MOCs for inspiration.
This one's from Brickcitydepot and has a pretty cool roof.

Might be me you're referring too. Been at a standstill for too long, honestly. At least I recently got a lot of actual bricks to put together and hopefully I'll get some results soon.

I really wanna build something that could work as hangar/mech bay on the inside but looks like a warehousefrom the outside. This way I have place I have something for starwars/ scifi stuff but doesn't clash with my city display. Any sets that would have good peices for this? battle of scariff?

>City airport airshow?

That sounds like an alright place to start. Just plaster the outside in these https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=59349 and make a new roof, maybe. Maybe mock something up in LDD first?
>>
>>6440002
No matter what, it'll be huge, so you're gonna need a large quantity of pieces. I wouldn't recommend the Scarif set much due to its price and small volume.
>>
>>6440002
Not sure how big you want to go.
But for large amounts of just regular gray pieces and panels i'd suggest getting into bricklink.
Low prices per part, you can choose what you want without the stuff you don't need and very large quantities very easily.

I realize bricklink would be cheapest, but I just dunno what parts i'll need and I'm at a weird point where I'm definitely out of my dark ages and can't justify bricklink because it's not as fun as a full set? does that make sense?
>>
>>6440033
Ah that's the other one i meant.
I remember recommending you these pieces:
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=3003px6#T=C

>>6440057
I see what you're getting at.
I'd recommend starting of with smaller sets and one medium or bigger structure then. You'll get a feel for what pieces are around.
In the meanwhile i'd suggest making a bricklink account just for the wantedlists. Whenever you see a part you might want to use for your hangar, look it up to learn the admittedly confusing website layout and add it to a wantedlist.
Maybe follow some reviews of sets coming out to see what parts are out there. Like Jangbricks, new elementary or whatever.
Again add whatever parts you might want to a wantedlist. This way if you at one point decide to use bricklink, it isn't such a huge ordeal to get into.

There aren't that much sets out there that quickly get you a large detailed hangar for cheap. Most playsets are more modestly sized and bump up price with figures, Modulars have loads of pieces for buildings but are more colourful and very very large.
>>
>>6440057
Walmart has a bunch of sets on clearance now, so you could try buying a set or two to experiment with, then buying more once you have a better idea of what you want to build

The lore is just way too complicated for casuals, so it usually scares folks off. The lore is actually pretty good, though some minor stuff is better off ignored.
The comics are actually pretty good. As a comicfag, that's what got me into Bionicle.

Basically, Bionicle fans are a product of the time, and it's pretty obvious because most of us are around 20 in age.

What if the cat is being used by another villain, the REAL villain of the movie?

I just realized that my earlier piece count estimate was based on the sets that were visible in the seller's pictures, but now that I've spent six hours or so disassembling sets, I'm realizing that it's a bit more than that. Adding up all the part counts of the instruction books (which all seem to have complete sets) gives a total of 6,727.

For perspective, this is what I've got disassembled so far, and it's about 8 inches deep.

HOW you sort the pieces is all about you - it depends how you build.
>>

Star Wnrs
>>
>>6440950
I sort by part type and function, then color.

For example i have boxes of decorative things, building stuff, vehicle stuff etc. In those there are ziplockbags of like tires, car bases, wings, mudguards whatever.

Simpler things like slopes live like that too, but seperated into colorbags instead, and printed stuff have another bag. If my box gets full, I'll seperate them to inverse and normal slopes in the same way (I removed wedge like stuff recently for example).
>>
>>6441007
Also, don't stack extensively to save space (limited use is ok). Once you go stack, you can never go back.

Stacks obscure each other when you put them in a box, so you still can't immediately find what you look for. Also when you remove a stack from a tightly packed box, you end up rearranging entire thing again, losing even more time. It only saves a bit of space, and nothing else reall. Bad idea.

Like, that represent best value for money for your own collection?

Or that represent actual long term appreciation potential?

Star Wars UCS
Modular buildings
Trains from the "creator" line not the crappy city sets
Large sets that aren't remade every few years, think Medieval Market Village, not the current police station.

MISB is best. It does require space to store, but if you want to maximise return, buy those big price tag sets on sale, and wait.

I've at least doubled my outlay on modulars, the monster hunters haunted mansion etc, but also remember to have fun. Maersk diesel train, Imperial flagship, MMV, are all worth substantially more now, but I'd never part with them. I only hold and sell to finance further Lego. One day I'll have that Emerald Night.

If you have very little of a certain colour, but too much to remember all the pieces you have in that colour. Keeping them together is easier for projects where want to use as much of them as you can.

By piece is definately the easiest to find stuff, being sure you don't have something if it isn't in the tray it's supposed to be. But combining systems that work best for you and your collection is fine.

just a week ago I bought nearly 30 pounds of lego in bulk. I'm still not quite done sorting everything yet, but there's already been plenty of weird stuff popping up, like missing pieces and minifigs where they probably shouldn't be missing.

for instance in pic related, there is a batman and batgirl torso, but no cowl for either, wildstyle's pants but not the rest of wildstyle. a skeleton with no arms but an extra 3 legs, a torsoless patrick, a headless minecraft zombie

I'm pretty sure this is fairly common, despite this being my first time buying this much lego

So I built this entirely from scratch (no source material or sketches, just building as I go), and I really like how the design of it came out.
I was thinking about rebuilding it but making it about 2.5x bigger, and adding in more features (like two gunner-style sliding doors, and making the side wings able to move upwards so it can land) and fixing some of the stuff that I'm not happy with. Would it be worth it?

Just remember, when you double the scale, you increase the volume by 8. It might become an expensive endeavor VERY quickly.

Also, to distill the salt out of what >>6444236 said, it could use a bit more colored accents. It's a bit bland right now.

I'm a /toy/ casual but I was a lego fanatic when I was younger. My favorite thing to do was always building moving parts like hidden trap doors, odd contraptions, etc. into my sets. One example I vividly remember is from set 6755 (pic related) where the villain would shove a 1x2 flat tile dynamite into a hole in the jail cell which had an exposed spring, causing the spring to pop up and the jail wall to be blown open. You guys have any cool things like that, either from official instructions or things you came up with yourself?

>>

Aye i had that set as a kid. Loved that as well.

Hidden trapdoors and blowup/destruction parts are now at an all time high man. Many of the latest city police sets had exploding jailcells, hidden latches with crowbars, staches of hidden loot. Superhero sets have lots of breaking out walls, bending cars and ripping out atms machines. The latest city jungle sets have lots of heavy trucks ripping artifacts out of ancient ruins with chains and shit.

Can't think of that many specific sets, but these are relatively recent ones.

>>
>>6444222
That's not even true. TLG's marketing department determines shelf space at an average retailer, they provide piece budgets to the set designers with designs and ideas from the artists who think up the more general ideas. There's back and forth between the several parties and iterations of the sets until they've managed to produce a number of sets they can mass manufacture.

Price per piece and price per weight is a fiction created by AFOLs so that they can try to understand pricing. The thing is, pricing has to do with TLG trying to make its profit goals and not to do with how many chunks of plastic are in the box.
>>
>>6444848
Look up industrial design, you fool.
>>
>>6444588
I built a wizard tower that, when a few pins were removed, would collapse in on itself. It also has a trapdoor that leads into the sewers, because why not?
>>
>>6444848
I have seen an interview where the set designer was talking about being told the size of the box in advance.
Whenever you wonder why certain sets seem to be inflated or why they're so expensive, it's because a designer is told "we need an x set in this size a box, it will cost $y and needs to have under $z in parts.
Later AFOLs will marvel at why a set only cost $30. It's because they needed a $30 set at that box size and that's what fit the bill.
>>
>>6444848
>piece budgets
>>6444875
>$z in parts

But that value is determined by a combination of the amount of plastic used, the cost to create new molds, and where the factories that produce those specific pieces are located.

That's like saying the value of a pair of shoes are based on the manufacturing costs.
It's a factor in determining that value, and an important one (sets the bottom limit for profits), but only one factor.
TLG charges what they think people will pay. They think people will pay $30 for the Water Strider, so that's why they charge $30. Price per individual part only factors into the very least amount they need to charge while still making a profit.

>>6445861
>2 seater
I'd guess it'd be another $25 set, like the recent Saber Tank.
>>
>>6445866
Is it supposed to just be the cockpit like a Ghost/Phantom thing, or is it just a really similar design?

>>6445861
I think BB8 and the Star Destroyer are the only ones I'm really interested in buying, but the other sets do have at least a few interesting bits
>>
>>6445870
I don't see any obvious points where it'd attach to something bigger. I think it's just a really small cargo ship.
>>
>>6445870
I think the cockpit is canonically detachable like an escape pod and I'm betting Finn and Rose have to jetison from the full transport at some point in the movie.

I know you're new here, but this is the board for talking about toys, not the board for talking about politics. It's a subtle distinction, but it's easy to figure out what's acceptable if you just remember the simple phrase, "keep /pol/ in /pol/".

Someday the entire internet will be this way.

"Banned for off-topic discussion"

All truth will be swept to a small corner of the internet that only a handful of people will know about.

So you're saying that you should be allowed to post gore porn on /toy/ because you enjoy browsing /b/?

You seem a little slow, so let's look at this from a different perspective. You don't own 4chan.org, so you don't get to decide what is or is not allowed on 4chan.org. This is because the USA (where 4chan's servers are based) is a capitalist society. You're perfectly free to make your own website and post whatever you want on it, but you look like a faggot when you whine that the mods on this privately-owned website don't let you freely shitpost without consequence.
