He's whining about Thunderclash's cannons for some reason. When MMC has always taken design liberties with it's figures. But I do agree in that they're doing way too many remolds, what are they, fucking Hasbro? This shit isn't acceptable for $85-100+ figures unless it's literally the only way to do the character (ie: Seekers are all just recolors with at best different facial expressions or something) nd remain true to it.

>>
>>6425226

Ohh, cool. When is the Vulcan re-release, did they say? Is it just going to be the "premium" one, or are they going to re-release the original version too?

Just asking because I liked the plastic colors of the original, I'd prefer it over a dipped-in-paint version, but I missed out on the original.
>>
>>6425184
>I really think he should continue to tell GT "No" both for his own legal safety and because clearly that's what he wants.

That's really all he can do at this point. It likely won't stop the figures but at least it helps his case in the event HasTak's lawyers come for him. If he has no involvement and can prove that, I'm not sure what they can really do to him since just doing fanart isn't illegal and he had no way of knowing a Chinese company would swoop in and steal his work to make figures out of.
>>
>>6425233

The best thing for him to do probably would've been to never acknowledge their existence in the first place. If you didn't even know it existed, you couldn't be connected to it.

Plausible deniability, and all that. But he already fucking commented on it, so it's there forever now.
>>
>>6425155

you do know that steel molds are fucking expensive and that MMC doesn't have FT money right? They kinda have to remold/repaint to make money to keep making new stuff. That's just how it works.

They can tone it back some yeah, but I think that's what their crowdfunding thing is going to be for. Already heard that Machine War Optimus will probably be done that way.

>you do know that steel molds are fucking expensive and that MMC doesn't have FT money right?

I thought MMC was one of the highest, if not the highest, selling companies? Pretty much everyone fellated them for Hexatron, the DJD, Overlord, their Predacons, etc. Only recently have that started to catch flak for that supremely shitty Lockdown/Cyclonus.

Also since when is FT rich? I don't know a thing about them honestly, and never bought anything they put out.

The QC problems started with their second release, so no. This has been touched on too by some of the designers working for them. The factory they use for the OM stuff is a new one that turned out to be unreliable at best and shit at worst.

After following all the drama over GT's beast formers this seems to be the order of events:

>GT contacts T-Beast artist to tell him they're using his designs
>Guy is cool with it
>TFCon rolls around and the reveals come out
>Jap officialcucks start giving the artist shit on twitter for daring to make a profit off HasTak's IP
>Artist sees the TFandom is retarded and washes his hands of it all, says GT never contacted him and he's done drawing Transformers
>GT posts some message about wanting to do original designs in the future
>A chinese dude on facebook says something about the situation
>moron on TFW sees his big chance to post a hot scoop runs the chinese facebook post through google translate and posts the line is being cancelled in all the threads about it.
>Actual 3P insider daimchoc shows up and tells him not to post things without fact checking

I'm way more interested in theBW characters as mecha beasts than the G1 characters. And I actually do like organic beast modes, unlike a lot of people, but these are just cool. while the G1 non-beasts as beasts are cool it'd feel weird owning a lot of them when I'e yet to own a definitive version of their regular look. These at least can fit in decently with a BW collection.

The people designing the characters for the official shows and movies should take note.

THIS is how you design a transformers character, with the transformation in mind rather than being left up to animation magic. This gives the toy makers a clear foundation to build off of when making their toys.

I feel like all the American series were character design first, toy second while all the Japan produced series structured the character designs around the toys.

Beast wars had the toys to use for reference, and the process was far more streamlined going forward for the transmetals, which I hear were actually designed by mainframe and engineered by HasTak, but don't quote me. Beast Machines was rushed. For all the worries about animated's art style, Derrick Wyatt was a TF fan and the designs were workable in real life. Really its the damn movies, especially the last few(ever since DOTM they've let the designers do what they want), and Prime/RiD 2015 that really suffer from ignoring any proper structure.

If you didn't know, this figure comes with a set of alternate hands, so you can remove the gun hand if you don't like it.

(Some promo images I've seen make it look like you have to remove the gun hand in order to transform him, otherwise it sticks out awkwardly in gun mode).

>Some promo images I've seen make it look like you have to remove the gun hand in order to transform him, otherwise it sticks out awkwardly in gun mode

This has been the one sticking point (ho ho ho) about him for me. I'm still getting him for certain, but seeing that one part did let me down a bit. Some part of me also wishes he was smaller (or War Giant bigger) simply so it didn't look so awkward when held.
>>
>>6425587
I meant I would prefer an opaque set of hands/guns for him. I've never been a fan of the clear plastic hands.

I know liking it is sacrilege around here, but that's actually one of the reasons I actually like the MP, since they provided the option.
>>

Ah - now I understand. That makes a lot more sense - I'd thought you must be some weirdo who didn't like the idea of Shockwave having his distinctive weapon hand...

It's TFW so take it with a grain of salt but here's a translation somebody there made of the tweets.

If any of this is to be believed, it sounds like the artist was never contacted by GT regarding use of his designs. He saw the reveal at TFCon and immediately contacted his friend at Takara to clear the air about him being involved. According to this translation, he's going to stop doing TF art, not because of fanboys or any of that shit, but because he doesn't want to risk getting involved in any legal gray areas where folks think he's turning a profit off of toys based on fanart designs.

It still sounds like he neither condones nor condemns the idea of the figures being made, he just doesn't want to risk getting into legal trouble or have his rep be damaged with folks thinking he's trying to use somebody else's IP for mass-produced merchandise.

Granted, I don't know much else about what went down on twitter in Japan-land (though I believe it probably was a fanboy shitshow) or how that may have changed his demeanor on the situation but it sounds like he has no intention of trying to stop the line, he just wants people to know he isn't involved.
>>
>>6425690
To be fair, he's not entirely wrong. There really hasn't been a good looking 3rd Party Superion set. That being said, only Superion itself looks any good on the official toy and it still doesn't look THAT good. The individual bots, on the other hand look like shit. 3rd party has it beat in that area but it's almost moot when they look like shit combined.

Basically, there still really isn't a good Superion set, official or otherwise. You either get a decent looking Superion and shitty individual bots or a shitty looking Superion and pretty cool looking individual bots. That or you continue to wait until somebody finally gets it all right. Pick your poison.
>>
>>6425650
The CW combiner port system is unironically better than most of the shit 3Ps use. It's stable and you don't need to actually force anything. The way Devastator combined with multiple locking parts at different points of the limb was also better than anything I've seen a 3P do.
>>
>>6425717
>giant, thick, stable, heavy ratcheted pegs
>easy to connect or disconnect
>no one has fucking copied it yet

Only 3P combiner I own is MMC's Predaking, and his ratchets are good (well...Except for my one leg's ratchet which is for some reason weaker than the other, dunno why, but no one else I've talked to seems to have this issue and I've owned him for so long I don't think MMC would do anything about it), but man, I'd like to see some CW style connectors on 3P stuff.
>>
>>6425717

While I agree combiner designers need to stop humping ports as the end all be all for combiners, the CW ports couldn't do much but stand with their shitty feet. The official sets with new feet and various upgrade kits made it obvious how unstable they were with ankle tilts.

>>

Thats pretty shitty of them to start production on figures without the artist consent and it's a shame that the guys gonna stop making fanart since these design look fantastic. But it is the smart thing to do.
>>
>>6425690
I don't know why people are so butthurt about UW/CW. OK, wait, I get the CW hate, because that line was a clusterfuck of weird distribution and retarded groupings. But generally, the toys were pretty good. If Hasbro had just done a few things things smarter...

1. For God's sake, just give us the original teams with their original members. Then make your 2-4 new sets with Rook, Alpha Bravo, Offroad, and non-Ark recolors/retools of everybody else.

2. It would've been nice for all of the leaders to be separate molds.

3. Gifsets along with singles would've been a terrific throwback to 1985/1986. Giftsets could've been online exclusive for collectors and leave the mix and match random store stock to kids.

4. Devastator at a comparable size to everybody else would've been great. Even a little bigger, because six deluxes, would've been OK. But the 2-foot tall bit ensured it would be expensive and nobody would stock it.
>>
>>6425795
>4. Devastator at a comparable size to everybody else would've been great.

Thanks to this, my only choices for a Devastator are a huge fucking monster that scales with nothing in a regular collection, or a $600 GT Devy.

Y'know what, did they say what the G2 box set is gonna cost? Because if that shit is $300 or so, I'll go for it.
>>
>>6425717
>The way Devastator combined with multiple locking parts at different points of the limb was also better than anything I've seen a 3P do.

Say what you want about CW Devy but the fucker is probably the most solid combiner I have. I don't think I've had a single connection come undone handling mine.

>>6425816
I've hear rumors that there was a push from Takara to make the Constructicons voyagers so they would scale better with MPs.
>>
>>6425816
BBTS has Maketoys Green Giant for $300. And a company called NBK is doing a KO of GT, figures running about $20 each.
>>
>>6425831
>I've hear rumors that there was a push from Takara to make the Constructicons voyagers so they would scale better with MPs.
Which would've been OK if they hadn't simplified them so they wouldn't fit with those MPs.
>>
>>6425744
It's less about HasTak going after GT and more about making sure HasTak doesn't come after HIM. It's pretty well established at this point that these third party companies can get away with whatever.

>>6425778
Technically, it's shitty that they do TFs at all without consent because it's not their IP. The only reason we think that's ok but this isn't is because HasTak is a faceless corporation and this is an identifiable, relatable individual. In either case, we're still getting high quality bootlegs though lol

I don't know why some people are so autistic about elbows being formed by the legs. If it helps the robots get solid connectors that can also allow them to scramble and don't need to be disemboweled just to give clean elbows I couldn't care less about MUH elbows.
I also like reminders of it being a combiner so I might biased.

>>6425795
idunno man, HasTak has to accomodate to a lot of things and have to make sure they sell to retailers.
Collectors are a finicky bunch, hence why everyone is still unsatisfied with CW/UW, and I wouldn't rely on them buying every set online because they might not like something about any of the figures and pass on them until Takara makes the same fucking thing but with two paint apps more or because they want the show deco and not the toy deco and vice versa.
The figures had to be designed and made molds of, both of which costs a lot of money as cheap as you think they are, so they had to make the most mileage out of them; for G1 teams the pickup mold was only needed for First Aid, and arguably Swindle but they had to fuck up that too, and yet they made four figures out of it.
Fanservice and putting out FIVE jets out of three original molds for the first wave of a line sounds risky. Didn't stop them from making wave four only car autobots, though.

I'm not defending them, just saying that it's not likely that they are going to pander to collectors anytime soon.
>>
>>6425855

But Green Giant looks like trash and is vastly outdated compared to newer stuff, and those KO's are unfortunately, from the reviews, complete shit. I'm not asking for much here, just, shit, cut the price down a little on these things. It really doesn't need to be $600. 2ft tall 'bots aren't even that much.
>>
>>6425941
>I don't know why some people are so autistic about elbows being formed by the legs

I think a lot of people are just bothered by the elbow gaps. If some addon kit maker came along and did little leg gab fillers I bet some people would think they look a lot better from that alone.
>>
>>6425941
You're confusing autismos bitching about G1 accuracy with aesthetic appeal. Bow-legged robots and craptastic looking joints are visually unappealing, and there are plenty of better approaches.
>>
>>6425941
Well, yeah. the unique leader molds was more of a wish list thing.

The molds are expensive for people like us. An international corporation with the infrastructure in place, not so much. They sold CW limbs to TRU for like $6 per unit (going through a distributor, I was looking at more like $12). Dropping the comics would've helped too. Nobody read them and they didn't even reference the toys they were sold with or concurrently shipping product.

Anyway, the mold reuse just had to be smarter. There's no reason all of the reuses had to come out of the legacy teams. Sure, do them where they make sense, but do the leftovers in your new teams.

The thing is, retailers (the big ones that Hasbro actually listens to) don't know anything. Like at all. They treat toys like movies and cereal and shoes. Hasbro could've delivered anything regardless of whatever they agreed to and they wouldn't have known better.

I'm sure if wall believe hard enough someone will show it at the next TFCon in September.
>>
>>6425960
I play with my combiners so I'll always prefer designs that make them easy to play with. The scary tolerances, clearances, and partsforming of most 3P combiners are really annoying and for all they do their limbs can't even scramble.
Visual appeal is secondary to me for the most part but 3P combiners are just recently starting to look good after them pretty much kickstarting this whole third party thing.

>>6425971
Massive corporation or not they are still spending money, each mold costs quite a lot and they are going to look for ways to profit from it. Still, fuck their new bean counters.

I completely agree with the rest. Retail is helpful sometimes, I like buying figures from retail as you can check for defects and having the option to return a defective figure without having it recreate An American Tail is convenient, but they are holding back toy companies. I swear the movie lines are getting less waves each time because they always fucking overstock on wave one.
I don't get why more fans don't try to get inside TRU or Walmart's higher posts to help fix these things like in the Philippines, though. In the case of some it's not like they are doing anything better with their time.

>>6425973
Man, it would've been so nice to have Raiden be a mainstay of G1 so we wouldn't be still bitching about Devastator's size.

My experience has been that organizations deliberately select against people who would help them by doing something differently. You have to agree with what the lead people are already doing to even get hired and then you're immediately in something a catch-22. If it works, well, obviously you don't get to change anything because it's working. If it doesn't, now you're "part of the problem" and don't get a chance to change things because you're either "stupid" or fired.

My career (in software development) may be going nowhere but I still don't have the time or inclination to play that retarded game.

All I can do is marvel at the absolute miracle that anything anywhere even works at all.

You're right, but "interesting designs" has nothing to do with it. This nostalgia-centric franchise is all about the most well-known characters. That's because he's not accurate to anything. This fandom doesn't care about interesting ideas or designs. It wants accuracy to the source material, no matter how shitty it might look.

That's what I meant when I said "their designs could be absolute trash", but as long as they match what was on the show, it doesn't matter.

Even more, they could have:

-Made more articulated TM bodies
-Toys that are compatible with TM
-Combiners that are compatible with CW figures.
-Targetmasters to fill gaps
>>
>>6427393
>not a single thing for TR from 3P's
>a 3P is making a fucking addon for ANOTHER 3P 'bot so it can act as the body for CW toys

Sometimes I wonder if all the lead paint in China has completely damaged everyone.
>>
>>6427393
TR and CW aren't "toys for collectors", they're cheap shit for kids. Adults collecting these are cheap, they wouldn't shell out the kind of money most 3Ps want.

No he's not...Officially.

A3U brought 3 stuff that were not officially out to sell there in TFcon last weekend. Those were: Open and Play Big Spring, that JJ Oversized Classics Prime, and BoldForms Megatron or whatever he is called.

I was talking to another guy in the convention and he told me that he figured out why A3U didn't have one in Robot mode as a display to be fiddled with. Somebody he knew bought one and let him fiddle with it and everything was loose.

Personally I bought Open and Play's Big Spring and despite the face being ugly as heck which needs replacing, he is a really solid figure and easy to transform.

Do a review here or something, man. Rain some pics. I'm interested in this because besides the asian man face, it looks pretty nice, and it's not gonna kill a wallet.

What can I say? I was iffy about buying him because of the face and since I didn't bother holding him in my hands but when I folded in and actually went up and picked up their display model, I knew I wanted one.

Just to list out what I liked and disliked with him:

Pros:
Solid plastic
Good ratcheting joints where needed
Highly pose-able
Has rubber soles which I found pretty nice so he doesn't really slip
Fun and easy transformation that is quite unique - this considering that the toy doesn't come with an instruction and I actually just watched the only quick play video on youtube so I just watched him transform it without any explanation.

Cons:
Face that only a mother could love and the face is just held on by 2 pins so its pretty easy to pop out. Waiting for a 3p replacement.
Not a lot of paint
The part that tabs the chest to the abdomen is a bit loose where I used the Floor Polish Techniqueâ„¢ to tighten up the connection
>>

Welp it went sideways again. I really don't know what's happening now I tried all the possible settings combination I can but it seems to not want to go on portrait.

>>
>>6427604
Oh forgot to mention that he doesn't have any Diecast at all but the plastic is hefty and dense.
>>
>>6427604
Meh. I like paint. The key is to use high quality paint and engineer good clearances. Ironhide and Artfire are covered in paint and don't scratch because of these things. Unpainted plastic is cheap and ugly as fuck on a toy that costs $100+. I would honestly rather have the paint and risk not scratching it.

Like seriously. Pretty much every official MP was "drenched in paint" and I've been transforming them for years with no major damage.

>>
>>6427627
I can understand the preference for paint. Having a figure with tons of matte isn't the most visually appealing thing.I think that a good mix of plastic types and textures is better, if my understanding of plastics is accurate.

I'm just super terrified of a freak accident causing a nasty nic or time wearing away at the paint's strength to hold onto the figure. That and I prefer surfaces to look like they match, so if one is smooth, the other is matte, but they're both the same color, it triggers something obsessive in me. Just looking at some recent figures drives me nuts.

>>
>>6427463
Exactly this. I only started collecting 3rd party about 2 or 3 years ago but I've been collecting both. Most of the older official stuff is still worth collecting and makes up the bulk of my TF shelf but I still picked up quite a bit of CW and TR stuff just to have some cheap "potato chip" toys for the sake of fiddling around with. Aside from some of the Legends class guys (the Insecticons, Cosmos, Seaspray, Powerglide, Brawn), I don't think the newer toys are really worth collecting and displaying but they're great for decorating my cube at work and providing some easy stress relief at the office.

Got Giant in today. He's pretty great- definitely a little dated but still a good toy. Plastic feels superb, articulation is very good for the design and age, and I love how he looks like one big robot rather than six stapled together. My one complaint is the rather fiddly Hook to Long Haul connection, but that aside I love him. Granted I haven't separated him yet, but as a combiner at least he's a winner.
