Ugh. Always wanted this guy, then I resigned myself to waiting for an MP.

Anyway. Speaking of flawless figures. Pic related. Has anyone ever been completely endeared to a character simply because of the toy and not their depiction in any form of media? Anyone else feel like the desire for only figures that have appeared in the shows is stunting the toylines? Like this poor, tasteless faggot here >>6409451 I don't need a character to be showcased to me in a TV series for me to want them. I just want them to look awesome.
>>
Awhile back someone posted pictures of an apparently upcoming reissue of MP Nemesis Prime/Black Convoy with new colors such as green instead of silver in vehicle mode and teal on the arms. I was just browsing Amiami and they have a listing for a Black Convoy reissue for December but the picture is the original color scheme (also double checked on HLJ and they have the same listing using the same pictures). What was the deal with the new color scheme and which version is that listing for?

Do you people realize that the G1 train is not stopping?

Any and all Beast Wars characters will be G1ified and not some 1996 flesh beast and then re-used to make an actual g1 character any type of Unicron Trilogy Character already has a better G1 character established, OG RID's toyline consists of mostly repaints to begin with having Scourge Be a G2 Optimus repaint, Ruination being G1 bruticus and the 4 predacons being transmetal repaints that people originally did not care about.

Hell you got two representations of the inflated RID line in generations already. Beast Machines Bruticus in Unievrse 2.0 and Jihaxus in thrilling 30. The US toyline had to be increased from Takara's because it was so small.

I think people keep missing that franchises are little more than reinventing or rehashing the same characters over and over. Look at comic companies, look at other franchises long running franchises (Barbie, GI Joe, TMNT, Voltron, ANYTHING Disney, etc).

So yeah. You'll never escape G1, because it was the progenitor. Just like how Spiderman got bitten by a radioactive spider, or Wolverine is forever going to be some angry, weaponized, unkillable Canuck with fake memories no matter how many times they go "NO REALLY, THIS IS REALLY IS TRUE ORIGIN THIS TIME GUYS". I honestly feel like some people who don't think G1 will be here forever are the same people that believe Superman is really gonna stay dead forever every time he dies.

Also TF does do large cast swaps, but it also has an absolutely gigantic number of characters compared to a lot of other franchises. Shit, in IDW they've been killing minor TF's by the dozen since the comics began all those years ago, sometimes per issue, and they still haven't probably killed a tenth of the franchise off.

Thats true. But weren't those show not connected in the first place anyway? Hello, /toy/bro, I want to get a wise advise from you knowledgeable gentlemen.

What should I get, Voyager Animated Blitzwing or Titans Return Voyager Blitzwing? They both look really nice (I'm a sucker for triple changers) but my budget is tight, so I really can't grab both.

He's your average RiD Deluxe: nice design, surprisingly solid paintjob, but in the end way too hollow and rudimentar to stand up in comparison with figures on the same scale. If you're used to the shortcomings of RiD and/or enjoy the simplicity of those figures, you might as well get him, but don't expect a pure CHUG Bludgeon.

How good a figure is Thunderwing? Still deciding whether or not I want to pick one up at TFcon, as a big bad guy to swoosh above my Kreons

I think the figure is underrated. He's a decent, fun schmup fighter with a Wing Zero esque double blaster rifle. Don't be expecting something like the hulking destroyer from IDW. If you find him cheap, I'd say he's worth picking up.
>>
>>6409667

>tfw you realize we ain't gonna get that lone star convoy head

Despite the stickers he's grown on me, and unlike broadside I won't have to go over him with paint, yet I still feel torn over him.

I wanted the proper laser optimus deco but the stickers on him are necessary and lack of red borders on the pylons hurt, least this one ripping them off won't hurt

So much conflict but oh well, least it wasn't grey-atron, only way I will touch that mold is if there is a g2 redeco or the takara version of the eventual blitzwing does something insane considering I still have the old generations voyager.
>>
>>6409785
One anon here had and reported there is paint under them, makes sense.

There would be over spray on the stickers, hasbro paint jobs while strong won't be smart enough to throw stickers on and then try to mask something that's 90% of the time badly applied

I think its a design basic. Sleeky designs that are kind of edgy and cool tend to work and read more immediately as villains. Chunky diesel powered bricks look more heroic or salt of the earth kind of.

Basically their reasoning is the same for why heroes in movies often have dogs. It makes them seem more innocent and approachable.

I believe some actually have the panels and the leg part of that connection broken off because of that.

I'm OK with some of the CW figures. I will say though, I have UW Computron and whilst he looks good he is a bit disappointing. The connections and joints aren't the most stable and I had to get a replacement Nosecone after the drill peg on mine sheared off. And the PE kits, whilst better than HFGs, aren't the best. I should really tighten mine up.

Devastator is an absolute joke though and I will never understand people that defend that thing.

>CHUG go down the shitter
It helped save it if anything. The line was stagnating aftr Thrilling 30, with no definate future, and the line was mostly directionless even before then.

>and started an entire new era of sloppy engineering, hollow pieces,
partly true, I admit.
At the same time, hough, there's been a lot of refined engineering despite budget cuts, and I like a lot of these over more complex figures.

>more repaints than unique figures and some of the ugliest

Inevitable considering the G1 scramble city designers all basically transformed the same. making them share molds to that extent isn't preferablem but I don't blame them. Repaints have always beena necessity in Classics since Universe, we've known this for years,a nd if anything the remolding is far more extensive. And either way, we probably get more unique molds per year now, even with all the repaints.

>and most disproportionate combiners we've ever seen

That's a massive exaggeration considering literally every attempt at making a combiner between RiD and Combiner wars.
>>
>Kind of want Generations Double Dealer because he's got the shark face on his jet form
>TR Blitzwing's alt modes look magnitudes better
I'm torn.
>>
>>6410389
I mean, if you genuinely prefer minimalistic engineering then I guess there's nothing objectively wrong with that, glad you got your cup of tea with CW if that's the case. Most people though, myself included, probably prefer the complexity of figures made from Thrilling 30 and before, hence why seeing Combiner Wars overlapping literally everything else in stores was so disappointing.

And frankly, I still think the combiners themselves weren't worth it, they might be better than the atrocious mess than PCC was but at the very least those were only a small experimental sideline accompanying the "serious" figures of 2010 whereas for CW you literally had terrible Deluxes and Voyagers made for bland and generic combiners being sold up your ass.

As someone who owns the whole line of combiner wras my only complaints are: menasor's shit chest mode and re-use of him for 3 whole times. Computron's Afterburner not resembling the G1 toy all that well and the strange green windshield that makes it look like a Halloween themed toy. The whole Optimus Maximus wave who's not even a proper G1 reference and just looks out of place. no Seacons or Predacons or even Monstructor. They released the unfinished G2 scheme of menasor but no G2 Defensor and no G2 Devastator either. Too many leader seekers, seriously releasing the 3 that everyone knows and zero coneheads? What were they thinking. Armada Megatron getting released an not some other more worthy tank former.

Other than that I liked Ultra Magnus, Leader Megatron, Defensor, Bruticus, Superion, Computron. and even Victorion was interesting.

Devastator is probably the best well rounded version of the character we've gotten ever. And I've got the Micromaster Devatator from Universe, G2 Devastator, Universe Devastator that used the Build King molds from RID, and Walmart Classics Devastator from the Energon molds.

The legends in Combiner wars were all amazing as well. Other than Wreckgar being a weird choice to finish off the line, everything else was incredibly well done. Blackjack being re-used for Micromaster Hot Rod was an interesting choice and I'm glad we got a proper Hot Rod deluxe in Titan's Return.

Been playing with my new TR Blitzwing, I like him and he has good modes all around but some of the tolerances are fucky. His legs are extremely hard to collapse and tab in and his folded treads don't like to stay in place in jet mode while his folded wings don't like to stay flat against his sides in tank mode.

(I apologize for shit pic)

I enjoy that I can plug his jet mode into a Tamashii stand, but I agree that his wings don't fold flat on the tank like I'd want, and his chestplate doesn't quite lock in on the left side in robot mode.

No disagreement on his legs either -- bitch and a half eating up my thumbs to collapse them right.

What really amazes me is how small Transformers have gotten. I grew up with them from maybe 2004-2008 and you got substantially more toy for your money. This TR Blitzwing is only maybe 30% larger than the Deluxe figures from back then and he's $25 compared to the $10 they used to charge for deluxes. Kind of interesting. I don't collect legos but I've noticed the same thing just walking past, you now get waaaayy less pieces for your money and resulting smaller toys

I grew up with them from 96-2002 or so. The figures you got were a major size boost from the figures I had. When armada came out, the deluxes were noticeably a lot bigger(if simpler) than past figures.

Two things, what is the point of the peg hole on his turret like I asked here >>6410661

And why does his gun have a peg on the end of it? It doesn't seem to plug into anything that way unless you want him to hold his gun upright like his sword.

I wish they'd just kept the same guns as TR Megatron, his guns seemed better than Blitzwing's because they combined into a better looking big gun and could mount into one big turret cannon

>This TR Blitzwing is only maybe 30% larger than the Deluxe figures from back then and he's $25 compared to the $10 they used to charge for deluxes.
Ultras (the voyager equivalent) were 20 dollars back in 03.
You shouldn't confuse the price you managed to find figures for the price they were released at.
Today, non-movie voyagers are released at 26 bucks, but I rarely see them for higher than 23. Deluxes are released at 16, but they're pretty routinely 14.
Then when you consider that 03-08 was right before the financial crisis, you could see why the value per dollar has changed.

All of that aside, a lot of time the price points are more about shipping weight. TLK figures all came in boxes, which upped their price point because it increased the shipping size.
Not to mention if you look at >>6410650
you can really tell there have been huge improvements in design. More moving parts mean more production time which means more money. Headmaster gimmicks alone mean several more moving parts.

I was hoping it would have the opposite effect since blisters are unwieldy as fuck but the new boxes are huge. Boxes can be more practical than blisters but they need to redesign them to keep them flashy for the kids but practical so the shipping doesn't become a problem the next time Walmart orders a billion cases of wave one.

The issue is that, simply put, cardboard weighs more than blister plastic. That, and it uses 95% the same amount of plastic since the main reason for packaging in plastic is to keep product from shifting around and breaking in transport.
And of course the packaging design for a box is more intensive than for a blister pack. All of these things add up. Most likely they knew TLK wouldn't fly off the shelves since AoE didn't, and so they purposefully increased the packaging production budget to try and be more eye catching. Generally, TLK is a much better toyline, but with the movie not doing as well as AoE (and the fact that WW came before it, and Spiderman came after it isn't helping) I doubt it'll prove to have been a smart choice.

You can all but guarantee they'll be going back to blister packs in the future.

That could have actually been a solid Deluxe-sized G1 prime if it wasn't for the terrible hip design that essentially ruins the entire figure. Robotmasters does seem like a really pointless like nowadays, all non-Beast Wars figures are genuinely atrocious designs, but it was the closest thing to CHUG back in the day, so I guess there's that going for it.

Holy shit, MP04 is now appreciating to over $600 on Ebay? It's literally just a regular MP01 with a giant wheeled box, what the fuck? I got mine for about ~150 MISB back in the day, there's literally no reason for this fucker to be so expensive even if it's still personally my favorite MP Prime design.
>>
>>6410814
On a related note, playing with MP1 is a genuinely great sensation, he actually feels like a giant mechanical robot instead of a bogstandard action figure like MP10. Not that I don't appreciate the more bogstandard "action-figure-ish" modern MPs, but it's still a pity Hasbro didn't keep on going with this same STRONK-tier design philosophy in parallel.

Transformations are hard, you need it to be complex and engaging enough for it to be an event, but not so long or fiddly that you don't want to transform it. I think something like Trigger Happy or Topspin really show off a good delux transformation, it's pretty quick to do even the first time you learn it, but even after the tenth, twentieth time it's still an enjoyable thing, and spinning the legs around and putting them into place is still a very nice event for it.

Remember the poll with all the leaders on it that Primal got voted on? Rodimus was nowhere on the ballot or in the image. So that means he's not going to be in the line. He was as much a leader as any of the others that WERE on the ballot. He deserved to be considered too.

Fair point.

He wasn't exactly wrong. Some third parties still can't make a sturdy combiner. I'd like a source on this since he was also in charge when we got the Energon combiners and the shittacular FoC Bruticus.
>"Soundwave can't be a tape deck"
I don't recall this ever being said. I know they were pushing the TRU reissue as being Classics Soundwave for a while since they didn't think they could improve on it for some blind nostalgia-based reasoning.
>"can't make Perceptor a microscope"
I've been collecting transformers for well over a decade and the reasoning I've heard was that they were trying to get away from mass-shifting. Nothing wrong with that, and making Perceptor a geological survey vehicle was inspired.
> always "reimagining" characters in modern realistic altmode a even when those characters were futuristic
Literally nothing wrong with this. The Dome Zero is a perfect alt mode for Hot Rod, and Kup as a classic-looking pickup made sense. Blurr was the only one I had a problem with, because I think the Drift mold is a clunky mess of kibble that doesn't suit an athletic character.
