For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

Frame Arms Group Build

This time the idea is to build any Frame Arms, or Frame Arms Girl kit, and paint and customize it.

The rules are overall pretty simple, the base must be recognizable as FA or FA Girl, other than that there's no limit on what you can do.

Due Date: September 1st

Note: This is a prize build, there will be a prize provided by me, there will also be a mystery prize provided by another anon. That means that to enter, I need WIP pictures submitted before the due date. Simply email me some pictures of you working on it, I don't care at what point, as long as it's possible to tell where your final product came from.

Prize Pack:
MSG Free Style Bazooka
MSG Impact Knuckle
MSG Beast Sword
MSG Assault Rifle #2
Miscellaneous supplies

I'm probably going to add more, but I'll let those be a secret.

Email: [email protected]

I'm also available via IRC and Steam.

Is painting enough to enter? I like the way the baselard FAG is already and it's the only one in my backlog.

Will using a flat coat get rid of the clear part ? This is a water decal.
Also are the softener and setting soluting required for putting water decal on curved part ? I have a grey Chamber to do next.

nope, the most you can do is get clever and layer the clear coats in a way that it levels out over the decal. Or even better snip your decals better to it's as close to the design as possible.
>>

of course Gyanko sold, she was a highly requested one and has that thicker set body you almost never see in figures. Heck when China got revealed first most of the comments I saw were 'why no gyanko!' OR 'hope this sells well and we get Gyanko'

the basic technology behind the faces won't likely change

the bad thing about fumina was the sculpt
the mouth shape and placement wasn't quite right
heard others say the eyes were too far apart but i disagree

china seems to have a decent sculpt
while i find gyanko's to be just as odd as fumina

i find pic related to be a vast improvement to the original sculpt despite needing better colors and cleaner polish

Did you actually read what you linked? He used automotive urethane clear coat which is thick as fuck and then he sanded it till the bump disappeared.

You can use any hobby clear paints as long as you lay them thick enough that you can safely sand.
>>
>>6399147
Yeah so I wondered what manner of Urethane clear coat it was.

Would Createx's clear coat be the closest Urethane thing around, short of the other only actual alternative I can get which are Duplicolor lacquer clearcoats?
>>
>>6399162
I don't think it matters. Like I said as long as you put a thick enough coat that you can sand safely, you're good.

I have a can of ts-13 clear around. I'll have to see if it's possible to do that. Do I also need to spray it on the other piece if I want to keep a coherent color between each of them ? As I understand, it won't make a difference.

I'm actually starting to like the clear effect on the hands. The flat coat will make it foggy though, right ?
>>
>>6399610
Just so you understand, the whole clear coat/sanding thing will help with the edges of the decal being visible.

It will not help AT ALL with the milky clear part of the decal in >>6398137, for that you need to use setting solution when you apply that decal. You can't fix it after the decal is applied.

>>
>>6400938

>>
>>6400945
You can, it's just more work.
>>
>>6400948
Different anon. Never painted white before, plan to do a majority white for my next model, with light green secondary color. Just finished sanding from seam welding, Tamiya white putty. I only have grey primer. I also want to preshade for the first time.

So would I be best using grey primer and then preshading black or dark grey before the white coat of paint, or buying white primer and preshading grey/black?
>>
>>6400954
I'd use white primer then preshade with grey or black.
>>
>>6400948
I find it's more work getting a good, smooth coat of white primer than it is to build up to white from grey (which unless you're going for a completely flat colour, you need to do anyway).
>>
>>6400956
But won't white paint over white primer be hard to tell? I can just keep mental track if I did the piece but it seems easy to mess up.
>>6400958
I plan on making mine flat ultimately. Light grey primer -> preshade -> White paint is what you would mean by "building up" in this case?

Either way, spoon testing will work I suppose.
>>
>>6400960

This. Some colorschemes are aesthetically pleasing and don't horribly clash against each other. So painting a robot iridescent mango colors is a no-go, while the simple colors of say the Nu look great on virtually everything.

Titan colors are also good, navy blue and black, with yellow highlights complement each other.

every once in a while you do stumble on some colors that look awesome together despite not being on any of the color theory combinations (Analogue, compliment, secondary, etc) like the famous example of certain shades of purple paired with a bright green.

But stick with the color theory for now.

There are also these Catepillar style guys, Molga, they easily fit into that sort of aesthetic you are looking for as this diorama shows.

Right, retard question here:

What are the best parts to paint on a frame of a HG?

I just bought my first one, but I am unsure how to proceed. Some people seem to do it all in black, others use silver on various joints, but since it does not have the same level of detail as the 1/100 models, there are no pistons or anything specific to go for.

Whatever you like...? It's a personal preference kinda deal. It would help if you told us what kit it was, but I'm guessing you're talking about an Iron Blooded Orphans kit, an Origin kit, a RG, or a Revive HGUC, cause for the most part those are the only 1/144s with full/semi-full internal frames.

I don't bother painting Revive/Origin Frames really, cause there just isn't much of anything interesting to see or pick out. On IBO frames I typically just do the ab pistons and cables, I paint the "middle" disc of the joints silver, and maybe sometimes I'll spray the entire thing gunmetal because so much of the frame shows on those kits. On RGs, I don't bother. The frames are so clusterfucky and ugly, yet lacking in purposeful mechanical parts that it's not worth it to me.

This is all a matter of opinion of course. Heck, you don't have to paint at all, 95% of the frame will never be seen anyway.

Compared to working with the usual plastic, what is different about resin? I know it's pretty damn toxic to sand and that certain primers are made for it.
>>
>>6405612
It's not actually that toxic. It's an irritant but it becomes mostly inert and can't aerosolize anymore. It's only actually toxic during the mixing and curing. That said, like paint, it will dock up your lungs if you huff shavings, so you should wear a dust mask and vacuum well after working on it.
>>
>>6405618

Would the standard filters for painting work (A2P3 in EU)? I would assume so, but I'd rather not risk anything.
>>
>>6405612
You can't use cement with it, some amount of pinning will almost certainly be required and depending on the mix it might end up being more brittle or more bendy than you expect. Just because of the nature of smaller operations casting stuff in resin means you're more likely to have to deal with warping, mould slip or surface flaws that you need to deal with too.
>>
>>6405621
Idk what eu standards are like but I imagine so since the paint filter i use is rated for particulates and vapor. Just make sure you don't smell anything. And you should wet sand to reduce particles in the air
>>
>>6405621
>tfw cheaped out and got A1P1 filters

i sure hope those particulates wont get in my lungs
please go away!!
>>
>>6405636

I bought a mask with filters included and it was a2p2 instead of a2p3 despite saying a2p3 on the website. So for a short while I guess I inhaled too many paint particles.

Do one of the HG:s and then the 2.0. It's a fantastic kit.

Also the blades they use in these are made in GB. They're simply standard trapezoid blades you can buy online or (if you support ISIS and fundamental christians at home) at Home Depot.

So me myself, no. But I hope that others will just buy a Fourmost or a NorthWest Shoreline mitre cutter instead of these. Those work as far as I can tell.

I got the VF-31, the magenta and white one piloted by some Chinese Cartoon broad. It's a decent kit, way too many stickers, a lot of them don't fit perfectly. Transformation is really finicky. And my girlfriend threw out a sprue that still had parts on it, so it has no weapons.

7/10, it's alright.

Hey everyone.
As I've just regretfully learned, wrist joints on FA:Gs are quite fragile and I guess it will be impossible to fix those with glue without making them immobile. Does anyone know of a good way to fix those or at least a way to order a new set? I had a spare pair from my HLJ Baselard set but I'd like to stock in advance because I like to play with them and replace hands sometimes.
>>
>>6408554
Use ball magnets or Hobby Base joints. Previous threads had instructions for both.

For anyone entering the group build, I'm planning to scan all the line art from the Frame arms modelling guide book if people are interested in me dumping them on here? I wont have time to do them all until tommorrow, but in the mean time here's a test scan of the inner frame.

Yes please, that would help quite a bit on choosing a colorscheme.

Please don't dump them here but if you made a zip and uploaded it that'd be amazing.

The Zeta's my favourite MS. And I have like 5 RG Zeta kits because I got them for cheap, lol.

The people I bought them from probably got discouraged by all the 'grenade' comments.
>>
>>6409822
You missed your chance to recreate that cool transforming in progress scene on the box then. Unless you plan on painting all of them.

RG Zeta /is/ fragile, but that's not really a problem if you know about it beforehand. Just don't transform it more than once/twice, and be careful with the joints. It's not like the Zeta has that many iconic poses to begin with, anyways.
>>
>>6409843
Well, I'm planning on doing a Mk-II AEUG and blue C1 Zeta Plus colour scheme as well.

But the transformation thing is actually a really good idea, never thought of it. Guess I'll go hunting for more RG Zetas!
>>
>>6409822

It looks like you're not painting the inner frame? It feels lazy but I'd probably do the same if I were to paint a real grade kit.
>>
>>6409390
Like the other anon said, upload as a zip.
That said, can you upload the base scans in the zip or as another zip altogether? I assume you have edited this to make them as clear as possible, but would like to fiddle around with them myself.

Thanks though lad.

It's an even 8-head figure. 4 heads for body+head, 4 heads for legs. That's the artists' proportions of a heroic male human.

Is the MG Master Gundam any good? I picked up the God Gundam and aside from some minor quibblings with proportions I was mostly happy with it. Any personal experiences with the kit?
>>
>>6410727
The issues are mostly related to the fact that the full kits come with reassembled frames that are loose and like to fall apart, requiring glueing and joint tightening. The individual frames themselves you buy separate come as traditional model kit runners and are better. And yes, the renewals did fix some issues.

>Is there anything that actually has good proportions

Look at this guy.

Anyways, the MG Origin specifically goes for a bigger chest, it's part of the reason the head looks so small. Otherwise the head size is about the same as any other modern MG. If you want a bigger head, look earlier in the MG catalog: mkII 2.0 is a pretty good example.

The old 1/100 HGs also seem like they'd be right up your alley.
