Transformers General: "This Waist Does Swivel" Edition

According to this Weibo, TLK grossed 330 million yuan (48 million USD) on opening day (23 Jun) in China. Specifically, the 1st screenings on opening day (midnight shows) total 40 million yuan (6 million USD). Apparently, both broke records for films in the Transformers series.

By this point, I just see these movies as a (evil, if you want to call it that :D ) necessity keeping the Transformers brand alive and the revenue stream healthy for the toys we love going forward (Classics, Masterpiece, etc.). The live action movies may be hit or miss (I enjoyed the first movie and DOTM) but at least I can enjoy some of the designs and figures they offer even if the quality of the source material they're base on can be questionable.

That said, I haven't seen TLK yet but will sometime this weekend. I'm keeping my expectations low.

why are some people expecting some Golden Globe type movie? This is a supposed to be big screen Saturday Morning Cartoon. You're supposed to have fun and be amazed at spectacles. Bay even mentioned in previous interviews that the Transformers amusement park inspires him to keep doing the films for kids. If you want to watch some highbrow film go watch Moonlight or Million Dollar Baby.

I had a dad with his two kids sitting next to me. The little girl often got pretty loud at times. After Quintessa appeared a few times, she commented "She's pretty scary isn't she?" When Cade saved Optimus' life, she ended up cheering. Then at the end of the film, her and her dad shared this bit of commentary.

"So the movie lied to us?"
"What do you mean sweetie?"
"The commercials said Optimus was going to kill Bumblebee, but he didn't kill him."

Their final bit of dialogue was actually with the dad being pretty miffed that the movie never did explain the Galvatron to Megatron transition.

I had a really great audience reaction at my showing. There were tons of collective laughs, cheers and gasps from the whole theatre. The best part was when Optimus said "did you forget who I am!" And the theatre went NUTS. The film got a standing ovation at the end. Crowd obviously loved it

The movie strongly implies Megatron somehow got in contact with Quintessa. They imply it with the red streak on Megatron's face, and the fact he knew who Quintessa was (while Optimus had no idea) and quickly teamed up. We can probably chalk up his new form to her since it has a similar aesthetic to the knights.

But yeah, they should have hinted at it stronger.

Seeing all these possible exclusives by FunPub I'm willing to give them another shot and write a letter to hasbro on what a grave mistake that they made by ending Botcon. Here in Australia target for whatever reason decided to go full retard and order in a massive shipment of cw skywarps and starscreams, right now its just the skywarps shelf warming since earlier this year, meanwhile the once shelf warming tr wave 1 leader blasters have sold long before the skywarps at full rrp.

Meanwhile the skywarps are down to $49aud, their second price drop after the toy sale they had where you could get each cw leader for $40aud iirc, what was sad was the catalog used pics of cw wave 1 megatrons to advertise the sale and not a single megatron was to be found.

Being not 100% film accurate is really a bonus.

Pity the MB-11 version is triple the price the ROTF version goes for, just for some extra paint, and it still doesn't fix the arm panels interfering with each other. The MP will be a $200+ toy, not worth it.

The voyager version was better designed, but too scrawny with poor aesthetics that made it look so cheap. It also goes for a damn fortune for some reason, did Hasbro make more than 10 of them?

I'm seeing reports of tabbing issues on mpm03 bumblebee as well, gonna go on a limb and say its qc, prototypes may have been perfect but the final retail models and their slightly varied plastic tolerances are to blame.

Depends on its usage, I painted up a hasbro skullcruncher in just all green (beast wars alligator megatron) and while I have transformed him just once he otherwise remains in robot mode, poses just fine as any paint chips here are in spots that aren't visible ie balljoints.

Besides, takara have made lucky draw figures in all gold vac chrome like pic related, on some they have a label saying NOT to transform them, but mileage may vary depending on the toy.

Megatron was gold in this one. He felt evil, and it was nice to see that he is indeed the original Megatron (or minimum has his memories).

The interactions between Yeager and Lennox were good. The kid didn't annoy me much.
Cogman was an interesting character.

Grimlock eating the police cruiser was funny.

Overall, I don't get the hate. It was a fun movie. I enjoyed this one better than AOE and ROTF. It's on par with DOTM and the original.

I have no idea on how Galvy got to Quintessa. I completely agree that is one giant effing plot hole, but this is Bayverse where plot holes are as abundant as baysplosions. A plot hole free Bay film would certainly be one of the signs of apocolypse :lol

Heisenberg Solution Set. It's virtually identical, though made out of translucent plastic. It's all good quality stuff and comes with a pistol to boot, all while being almost half the price those Hasbro swords go for.

The only problem I have is that the set is that they made the awful decision to keep Takara's handle rectangles on the smaller swords. This means only Cerebros or other figures with open hands can hold the sword segments. They're not even needed. I shaved them off my set and they hold together flawlessly, so if you aren't above modifying a 3P add-on, It's pretty much perfect.

The japanese crashbash was released with the legends repaint of cw shockwave, essentially lone titan masters are paired with a legends class figure, while for some reason certain deluxe figures in the japanese legends line got repainted tm vehicles, like weirdwolf getting a yellow apeface drone for some weird reason

The only thing I prefer on the japanese version is the tint on the chest and the extra paint apps on the weapons and Soundblaster TM. In the end I opted for the Hasbro release (even though I could get them both for essentially the same price) because I actually prefer the yellow visor, myself.
