Hmm... Season 2, perhaps? Or maybe switch to Megami Device?
Of course not Megami Device. Too fragile for toys, but perhaps...
>>
>>6370993
Wait, MDs are supposed to be sturdier than FAGs, right? Except for the hip issue I thought they were basically perfect Shink replacements.
>>
>>6371001
The whole MD complaint has existed many threads ago. They all said it's fragile, but I never saw any videos about these things. And it's said the scale's 1/1. Maybe a possible anime revolving these things as army bots (with the SOL units as special forces) might be a thing. But still...
>>
>>6371007
Still what? Whether they're too fragile to be toys or not or small or not neither of those things stopped a FAG anime from being made. Hell, with those you could easily make another toy anime or do something gritty; it'd be interesting to see these used as actual weapons. Hamburger is basically any commander's wet dream as it is.
>>
>>6371018
Busou Shinki already tried that with the games and OVA and I don't think that style was very popular.
>>
>>6371021
People loved the games, they hated the OVA because Konami was a bunch of retarded jews who tried selling them as DLC for the games first (seriously) that came with exclusive DLC content (Arnval Tempesta) you couldn't get anyway else and then sold them on physical media packaged with more exclusive shit because fuck Konami also the show was just bad.

Well, fuck. The thinner I used to clean away the enamel wash was a little too much for the acrilic gloss varnish protecting the paint.
Maybe I didn't let the varnish to dry enough?
>>
>>6371159
You almost certainly used too much thinner.
>>
>>6371163
Yeah, I was looking to weather the wood parts instead of doing a pin wash, so I kinda overdid it with the wash, and when it had dried it wouldn't come out so I used a lot of thinner.
I wasn't expecting it to be an issue since I had applied a thick coat of acrylic varnish that should be mostly immune to the thinner.

On brighter news most of the parts were painted and pin washed correctly, more or less. I am just not used to try to archive that clean and pristine finish, all my kits are usually heavily weathered, this has been a lot harder than I expected.
>>
>>6371183
You should try and polish out that orangepeel.

Is it possible to polish a acrylic varnish? Never done it before. Also, would it be worth it? I am planning on finishing it with a layer of Mr Hobby Topcoat.

Really, if you were going to have tiny sentient robot girls, they'd need to have their personalities and memory be transferable between shells so that they could upgrade as their old bodies wore out or became obsolete. That would have to include PC hardware-like standards between companies so they could survive if their original manufacturer closed down. Your Shinki might start as an Arnval, later get her body swapped to that of an Artines, then an Arnval Mk2, then when Konami closed up shop but Koto got into the business she would have to switch to a Stylet, then either become a Hresvelgr or switch lines again to a Megami Device.

Would need a whole batch of laws to establish legal rights too, particularly in cases of abandonment. Does an AI without a master become property of the state, get repackaged and sent to a new master, or become an independent entity? Do they get to choose? Hresvelgr would want to be a full-fledged person if given the option, but Gourai might prefer the relative safety and comfort of being a ward of the state. What should actually be done with the abandoned AIs if they're not given new homes? Send them into space for colonization of planets, maybe?

>>6371189
>Is it possible to polish a acrylic varnish?
I kind of did it with Krylon's gloss varnish. Not sure how well it goes down with Alclad aqua gloss.

Is there an actual urethane topcoat/varnish that dries hard, but will not eat acrylics? There is one by Duplicolor but I cannot find it anywhere in my region.
>>
>>6371247
Imagine a Shinki who resorts to clever makeup and camera tricks to become a kind of webcamgirl to secretly make money for herself after the death of her Master.
>>
>>6371381

She had basically been taking care of him for most of his life anyway; answering phones, signing for packages with his stamp, sending mail are duties she'd been fulfilling for years anyway, it wasn't so weird she was still doing them. He had no friends, no close internet contacts, and had been astranged form his family, so who would notice if she just took over the rent on his old apartment? She buys 1/12 scale doll clothes of various costumes and makes cosplay ASMR videos and BDSM Domination play stuff to bilk money from sad, lonely otaku all to finance her lifestyle. She didn't forget her old mastah, though. Oh no. All it took was repurposing the giant glass display case she and her other shinki sisters used to live in as freezer to keep her dead mastah preserved, eyes open, forever. She still models her outfits for him like she used to.
>>

For whatever reason my mind drifted to her then ordering a FAG for herself to lord over as Mistress.

Always if it is consensual.
>>
>>6371522
Frankly even turning people into Duracells and leaving them stuck in the 90s was better than the humans in the Matrix probably deserved.

Somewhat relatedly: we've seen that it's possible to make human-size Shinkis before, they just haven't actually done it outside that one military weapon.

A lot of branches would need to be trimmed and pretty quickly for guardianship of a great-niece to transfer that far up.

At that point a miniature combat robot for a guardian might be considered advantageous.
>>
>>6371522
And the violence stemmed from a machine killing its master in order to prevent being junked (arguing it was self-preservation). Who's to say one day a Eukrante or Stylet hears she's going to be scrapped for a newer model, and the years of being bullied by her master finally make her snap and slit his jugular in his sleep one night or put antifreeze in his drinks?

I had no idea how to do it, since I needed to deal with the seams. I ended up painting it after assembled and glued, trying my best to get most of the internal part and then touching up the un-exposed part with a brush.
It worries me since inevitable the paint in that parts are gonna brush away with the movement, no idea how gundam guys do it.

Maybe they should have thought of the fact that self-awareness means self-preservation before creating intelligent machines. Fuck, Asimov figured that shit out decades before, though even he pointed out that the Three Laws of Robotics have their own flaws.

She's far from perfect, but I'm calling Materia white finished.

I found out after I had already finished her that I was using a poor glue for the job, so the seam lines are still visible in the right light. I didn't paint her other than putting on the silver details with a gundam marker. Just panel lines, and some colored pencil shading. Still might go pack and add some detail to her hair if I can find the right colors to shade it with.
>>
>>6372233
I like it. You painted the leg details using markera as well?
>>
>>6372195
>But what do you guys think of the color?
It might be the lighting, but the red parts on the arms, hair, and frill looks like they're a lighter color. The color still looks pretty solid, though.
>>
>>6372255
Yeah, they are indeed a bit lighter. I didn't expect the pre-shading to have such an effect on the overall tone of the parts. Do you think it too much? I hope the matt varnish may tone it a bit.

>She'd made herself a blonde, of course: Master always loved blondes. Growing her hair out longer than her inner self had been as easy as adjusting the length of the filaments, and of course she could always spool some back in if she thought it was unwieldy. The biggest unnecessary expenses had been the height and the padding. She'd considered going for a short, flat-chested look to save on time and money, and if she had she could have been finished a few months ago. In the end, though, she knew what Master would have wanted. He'd left behind plenty of figures for inspiration.

>She took her first steps out onto the patio. Everything was so different at this scale, so much smaller. This fencing had required her flight pack to scale: now her arms could rest comfortably on it. She hadn't been able to view the city from this angle since back when she could ride on Master's shoulder. She took a moment just to drink in the view. It had been a few years, and the shops along the street below had changed a bit from what was in her memory banks. Most of it was still there, though, including one of Master's favorite restaurants. She wondered if they'd noticed when she'd stopped coming to pick up meals for him.

>"Hello there, miss!"

>She let out a startled gasp at the voice coming from two doors down, slowly turning her head to look. It was an older woman, older than Master had been, looking her up and down. Suddenly she was thankful she'd put some clothes on before stepping outside.

>"H-Hi!" she managed after an awkward pause. She hoped she hadn't forgotten anything. Would the woman notice the cameras hidden inside her eyes? Was her hair a natural enough color? She'd known this would happen - it was the whole point, after all - but actually doing it was giving her butterflies in her new stomach.

>The woman gave her a reassuring smile. "Sorry to startle you, dear, but I haven't seen anyone come out that door in ages. Did that man who was here finally move out, or are you a relative?"

>"I-I'm...his..." she stammered for a moment, thankful the voice box worked correctly. "His daughter." She wasn't entirely sure how plausible it was, but it was as close to the truth as she could say.

>The woman raised her eyebrows in surprise. "His daughter? I never took him for the type. You're here to take care of him, then?"

>"Yes." she replied, gaining a bit more confidence. It was actually working! "I'll be living here too from now on."

>"Oh? Well then, welcome. I do hope we'll be seeing more of you than your father. He only ever seems to send that cute little robot of his out to do things for him of late. Being a shut-in is terrible for your health, you know."

>"I'll try, ma'am." The neighbor's words stung, but she did her best to keep a smile on. "I'll see you around."
>>
>>6372276

>She turned to leave, but the woman spoke once more.

>"Might I ask your name, dear?"

>"It's..." Again she hesitated. She'd thought long and hard about whether she wanted to change her name, to avoid the risk of being recognized. In the end, though, Master had given her that name. She wanted to keep it.

>"Sayuri." she finished.

>"Sayuri? He must have named his robot for you. How sweet." The woman gave Sayuri a warm smile, to which she responded with a more embarrassed look, though not for the reasons her neighbor suspected. "Well then, dearie, I'm Kaoru. If you ever need something, don't be afraid to knock."

>"Yes ma'am." Sayuri responded, before slipping back inside. As soon as the door was shut, she shuddered in a mixture of excitement and relief.

>"Master..." she said aloud as she looked up at the urn sitting on the mantle. It was the only new thing that sat up high, everything else either left where Master had left it or put on the floor where it was easier for her to reach before she'd finished building this body. Cremating Master without a proper oven had been a long, gruesome process, but it was the only way she'd had to hide the smell. "Master, I did it!"

>The thought that he'd said it in jest had occurred to her at times, when he said that she handled so much of his daily life, and made so much extra income with her cam shows, that if something ever happened to him she should just keep going without him. But to Sayuri it was an order, and she could not disobey her Master.
>>
>>6372261
It's not that noticeable. It just stands out a bit since the darkest red parts (the chest pieces) are right next to the lightest ones. I don't know if there's anything you can do about it, but I wouldn't count on matte varnish to fix it. Most of the point is that is doesn't mess with your colors.

No matter how you cut it, Materia's hairpiece is just far more unusually longer than all the other models. It seems to need 2-3 mm of material shortened away to look more proportional, you think?
>>
>>6372341
I think if I went forward with it I'd have Chapter 2 cover Sayuri establishing her human identity, presumably via black market contacts, then Chapter 3 would introduce the human relative. I think it's easier to justify Human Girl as the daughter of one of Master's siblings, making him Sayuri's "younger cousin", rather than his grand-niece. My read of it is that Master died somewhere in his thirties or forties as a result of being an otaku of generally poor health, so Sayuri and Human Girl would have to be of somewhat comparable age.

Them being closer in age also helps if it goes in more of an /h/ direction, of course. I'm not sure if it will, it depends on audience reception.

Human Girl also needs a name, and Sayuri needs a model. I was thinking she's an Arnval, but those are so heavily used as it is that I also kind of want her to be something different. If she's a Frame Arms Girl, obviously Master could have easily modded her with a flight pack.

>Two days later till it occurs to me swimsuit is mms3.

There are some stress marks but no straight cracks.

>>
>>6373109
Yes but consider you'll have problems having that head sit on the MMS neck piece next time you put heck back on her body unless you also put something in the neck hole to make up for the trimmed peg.

Also keep an eye on that neck, if the material is like that of Renge's neck piece it will crack eventually.
>>
>>6373118
I don't really expect to ever put the head and body back together, and of strarfs are a relatively cheap. I value the swimsuit body considerably much more.

>>
>>6373125
I have two Renge's and that's never had the neck issue so I'm going to assume that anon just has bad quality issue or..

The problem here is mms3 bodies are not compatible with mms1 heads and isn't recommended. You're literally forcing it in and breaking it in the process.
>>
>>6373140
Yeah. I immediately rectified it. Here's hoping the stress marks remain just marks.
>>
>>6373125
>Any words for prevention?
The only one was to not put an MMS head on an MMS3 neck piece, the only path now is watch and fix if the stretch mark becomes a crack. I carefully applied a bit of superglue with a needle making sure it wouldnt make the piece too tight for the neck.

>>6373140
A few years ago some other anons and i found that our Renges had cracked necks, the telling sign is when the head becomes loose.

Do you have any unresolved issues perhaps?
>>
>>6373823
Just wait till it gets to the niece.
>>
>>6373823

Not that I know of, I'm pretty comfortable with my life. I *am* writing Master as having been a pretty severe loser, but that's because it's nearly impossible for the premise to work otherwise, since the premise requires that he dies and literally nobody notices except his tiny robot girl. He's not any sort of self-insert.
>>
>>6373835
It has this sense of cynicism and overall contempt that I generally sense from reading titles from Vertigo and Dark Horse.

Not good, in my opinion.
>>
>>6373846
Not really what I was going for. I don't even know who you think I have contempt for.

There's gonna be some sad parts here because of what it's about. Master was a lonely-ass dude, that's the premise. Sayuri isn't, or won't be, and now that the premise is established a lot more of the story is going to be about what she does going forward as she attempts to fake her way into being a better human than Master was. She's functionally becoming his actual daughter.

So is it possible to get replacement parts from FAG kits? My Baselard has a broken piece and I just lost one of Hresvelgr's clear bits from her headpiece.
>>
Yes and no.

Technically, each Frame Arms girl and Megami Device kit comes with an order blank that will let you order more sprues.

But, the drawbacks are severe: One, you have to actually mail in the physical blank you get from the kit, not a copy; two, they only ship replacements to Japan so you would need a forwarder/middleman of some sort to make it work.
>>
>>6373988
That just pisses me off even more. Why can't KotoUS be fucking useful for once in their fucking lives and do replacement parts?
>>
>>6373997
They do, but only manufacturer errors iirc; you could probably just say a runner was missing or something.

>>6374007

>>
>>6374010
I mean you can't prove the negative existence of something. Well, generally at least. Saying "hey, I have all these other runners" doesn't mean shit; the only way you'd be able to show you never got the runner would be an unboxing video and plamo isn't even manufacturer sealed. Them requiring you to show that you never got the sprue would be pretty unreasonable though I suppose there is the issue of them believing you without evidence.
>>
>>6374014
I'll email them and see if they can do a replacement sprue. If not maybe I'll summon the ancient spirit of Richigo to see if he can cut one out or something. I really don't want to have to buy another whole Hresvelgr kit.

Gourai, Stylet and Jinrai come with the most weapons and armor bitz. Architect has a bunch of power fists/claws/pile bunkers instead

As a mechaphile, Architect and Jinrai are my personal favorites. Both are heavily custom-friendly, having the best combination of good articulation (which Gourai and Stylet do not have) and 3mm peg slots (which Materia, Baselard and Hresvelgr are relatively lacking in) for adding MSG parts. Look up fortresshum on Twitter, who does phenomenal armor designs like pic related.

After checking out his twitter page, I'm definitely leaning towards Architect, just because of how many options she seems to have. Pic related
>>
>>6376211
She's pretty great. Just beware that MSG kits are individually cheap as chips, but the combined price can add up quickly. Make sure to ship in bulk whenever possible.

For a complete one-and-done experience, Hresvelgr comes with the most armor and weapons by default and she looks damn good with it all. Every other FAG felt like she needed at least one MSG kit to really complete the experience, but Hres has everything she could possibly want right out of the box.
>>
>>6376218
Hresvelgr was the other kit I had my eye on, but She doesn't seem to be as diverse in the customs department due to the small number of 3mm pegs

Airbrush, yes.
First base coat, in this case red and black on the legs. Once it has dried I painted the details with a small brush.
Now I am awful at painting details, so my trick is to paint the base colors and easy details, varnish everything with a gloss varnish, and then paint the difficult details on top of the gloss coat. That way when I fuck up I can clean it without fucking up the airbrushed paint and try again.

Also there are some details, like the light blue on the legs, that are surrounded by a small panel line, since I was applying a panel line wash afterwards it wasn't that much of a problem if the borders of the blue details were done perfectly, since the black line would cover it.
>>
>>6376258
If you're using an airbrush and it's orange peeling like that, try using mr leveling thinner instead of just mr thinner. Assuming you're using lacquers like gunze. If you're using acrylics add some paint retarder.

be patiant and wait till after a wonfes confirms shinkis are truly dead or if they are finally making headway at kotobukiya.

but whatever happens PLEASE not mecha musume general, please. FAGs and friends sure, but not Mecha Musume, just leads to problems with people trying to bring in stuff that really doesnt work the same way.
>>
>>6376415
I did mention 'Mecha Musume' as an option, but we can use other term like the one mentione by you, I'm ok with FAGs & Friends or FA:Girls & Friends or something like that
Even if in this coming Wonfes there is an update on the 'shinkis' that Koto have the intent of making, there is no guarantee that they will marketed as Busou SHinki, maybe they will be made under a new brand name
>>
>>6376431
not sure why you say 'shinkis' it is friggin Strarf and Arnval, there is no way they can be made without being under a shinki line.

Personally I am partial to FAG/BS thread. We wouldnt have FAgs or MDs without Busou Shinki, might as well pay respects in a way that makes all happy.
>>
>>6376415
>shinkifags will continue to make up argument about things that don't quite fit
Is it the customization? That includes AGPs, they're just as customizable with their 3mm ports as Shinkis. Does it mean model kits? Then Shinkis don't count.

I actually do not own shinkis. From my knowledge AGP have never been welcome here. I think its more then just customization potential, there is also a charm to the FAGs and shinkis I just don't see in AGP or the Fumina kits.
>>
>>6376474
>there is also a charm
So nothing quantifiable. You're basing the entire concept of this thread around "no i don't like those as much". You see that, right?
>>
>>6376453
>there is no way they can be made without being under a shinki line.
I'm just making a guess, maybe Koto will renamed them under a new name or they will keep the shinki name, we'll be only sure when they announced them

>We wouldnt have FAgs or MDs without Busou Shinki, might as well pay respects in a way that makes all happy.
I'm not saying that we should forget the shinki line/name, but nowadays these threads are more FAGs/MDs figs that shinkis, we can roll for a while with a new name until we got more news about that Koto wil do with the shinki line

How do you people use GSI's gloss varnish at all, if properly using wet layers will make the sheer amount of lacquer solvent eat the underlying layers?

in b4 0.7 nozzle and thinned 2:1 varnish to thinner

The MSG parts probably have chips like amiibos that give them their stats and in stage functions, but it has to be real versatile to take customs into account.

Hobbylard's a bit different. That's more of a magazine/modeling guide that she came with. Rufus comes with specifically a drawn Hres artbook. I don't think I've seen the Little Armory art book pop up once on Mandy for comparison sake.

for FAGs, strips of wider heat shrink work best as skirt material since it'll match their bodysuit aesthetic.it'd be similar to how figma skirts are if you get it on right. clothing always looks disgusting and oversized unless the figure is terrible inarticulate and any clothing material is skin tight to not look like great depression era overly baggy trouser tier knapsack wears.

>GSI's gloss varnish
I don't, I use Humbrol acrylic varnish, try sandwiching the layers so they don't react with each other.
>Primer
>Enamel basecoat
>Acrylic varnish
>Decals
>Enamel Wash
>Mattcote
>Drybrushing
>>
>>6377150

Can't say I have had any issues with that, though I have only used their gloss coat over their black primer so far, in order to get a decent gloss black base for metallics. I've also been using their flat coat fairly wet over vallejo acrylics with no issues.

>>6377803

>enamel basecoat

Why enamels and not acrylics? There are literally no issues with using an acrylic varnish over an acrylic basecoat. I find enamels to be a bit of an odd choice nowadays.

Besides, wouldn't you run a certain risk of removing the basecoat when cleaning up the enamel wash? I wouldn't feel completely safe despite the acrylic varnish.
>>
>>6377853
Enamel works better on airbrush, at least on my opinion, and it leaves a better finish cause the gods of self-leveling.
I have never used Tamiya "acrylics", so I can not comment on those, I guess it becomes a personal choice at that point.

Enamel thinner may react with an acrylic varnish but only if you apply like tons of it and the varnish hasn't fully dried, but once it has dried It shouldn't. I would bet you could wash a well dried varnished kit and it wouldn't damage it.
