For those who haven't heard, Dragonstorm is actually a two-bot combiner. He's made up of Dragonicus ( >>6355447 ) and Stormreign ( >>6355448 ).

Nitro has a Titan Master-compatible cockpit, as well as a compatible neck port, but his actual head does not transform. Presumably he can transform without removing it.

Cogman is a TR-compatible Headmaster, with a transforming head and a two-seater car mode (right-hand drive).

I like them. Most of them anyway. The more "scrapyard pile"-looking designs from the earlier films really do it for me, while the "humanoids with metal plating" look from AOE turns me off somewhat. TLK's designs redeem themselves with the knight theme.

Half of my collection is movie stuff. A lot of them are fun toys, and there were a lot of designs from 2007-2011 that were only made for the toys, instead of the movies. Those are among the best of their lines.

The difference is that Bayformers 1 released at the right year when capeshit wasn't what's hogging the cinemas of recent scale, and that Bayformers never had any competition in the "robots fistfucking each other" genre. Despite mediocre-abysmal ratings, it still sold because it was successful in its revival of interest. Power Rangers released far too late with worse marketing.

I think that all the designs look like shit in the movie. I can never tell what any Transformer is doing most of the time because they're totally incoherent messes of dark scrap metal. The post AOE designs might be even worse bexause they've totally tossed out any pretense of being robots formed from car bits and are now just metal shapeshifters. What makes Transformers Iconic to me is being able to see how they formed out of they're altmodes. First Movie Optimus at least had window boobs, hanging leg wheels, and smokestacks. The new Knight look is just a jagged eyesore that was colored by a puddle with oil in it.

As for the toys, I think the need to appeal to children really saves them. Steel Bane, Dragon Storm, Hound, Scorn, Squeaks, Leader Megatron, and most of the other new reveals have a cool Knight aesthetic that allows for more flat cohesive body shapes. The Optimi are still ugly shellformers, Hot Rod has the worst goddamn face ever, and half of the AoE dinobots are lanky curling-armed fucks, but that just means more money for Generations/3p that look nicer.
>>
>>6355529
you know that doesn't count

>>6355531
I agree, but people are still buying the latest mr bay's wild ride figures after the robot fistfucking each other genre became established.

I was going purely off of ranger/transformers designs though because I think thats what alienates both communities the most

After ten years, the Bayformer aesthetic has just become accepted as another facet of Transformers. Sure there are still people who dislike it, but they know it'll stay where it is for a long time.

The design style has been reincorporated into other versions of the franchise too. The Prime TV series mixed in a bit of Bayformers and a bit of Animated (the TV show from 2007-2010).

I disagree with that Optimus part. His AoE design is by far aesthetically pleasing as a design, but the fact that it TRANSFORMS into an earth vehicle makes it one of the worst designs to be a Transformer. If it were his Cybertronian mode, then sure I wouldn't mind.

Other than that, needs more color is definitely a consensus within the Bayformers following.

It didn't help that Don's style was aping the movies without an apparent understanding of HOW to make those incredibly jointed faces expressive.

I really liked the designs in the first movie. They were a neat blend of "weird alien robot" and "conventional earth vehicle". I'm not as much of a fan of the more humanized designs that started happening after the first movie though, like gangster thugs with gold teeth, fat Nascar rednecks, samurai stereotypes etc.

I'm fine with beards on robots in the cartoons, but they look retarded on screen.

I'm surprised TLK isn't reusing the Prime Dragons, given that they're going to reuse the combiner. Cogman

Transforms into an Aston Martin DB-11 vehicle
Cogman is a Headmaster, he has a “Titan Master” style head
Vehicle mode seats two Titan Masters
Nitro

Using files from the films to make the figures more accurate to the movie
You can remove his head and Cogman’s head can take over the body. Nitro's head does not transform.
Nitro’s cockpit in vehicle mode accommodates a Titan Master.
Vehicle mode is a military jet of Hasbro's design. John Warden worked on G.I. Joe for years so that influenced his designs.

Posting some more Artfire love, since he seems to be getting overshadowed because of all the TLK news and the fact that he wasn't in the cartoon. Grapple was my first purchase of this mold, so I was intrigued to learn how different he actually was. The entire waist and torso fits together differently to accommodate the boom vs. the ladder. Grapple ends up being a bit less graceful as a result, but they're both awesome. The levels of engineering on display in this mold and Grapple are quite impressive.

And for all the people who want to know, his details are tampographs and not stickers. Also, little Nightstick is compatible with pretty much every other MP hand/port.

Ransack, a Scout figure from Revenge of the Fallen.
>>
>>6355887

I would love a Generations-ized version of a lot of the Bayformer stuff. The Bayformer stuff is just so...Grey and twiggy looking, and the faces are a definite no-go. If they applied more classic design elements (ie: bigger, thicker limbs, more colorful, and faces that didn't look like jumbles of garbage), I'd be all in on a lot of these. I'd love an old style plane like that if it just didn't look so barebones and anemic.
>>
>>6355891
To be fair, biplanes are really, really barebones things. Like, they're mostly struts, strings and empty space. Ransack is about how a biplane TF would look.
>>
>>6355891
The new Barricade is stupid close to being a good Generations one. Too bad the backpack is gigantic
>>
>>6355896

I wonder if we could get a jet or biplane 'bot with arms done similar to Mindwipe's legs. Like, say you took biplane guy up there, and make his wings wrap around to form big blocks that were his forearms somehow. That'd help with the twiggy look.
>>
>>6355891
I really hope nobody pays attention to your opinion because we already have more than enough of those.
The spindly designs are fine for some characters, having everyone design everything under the same aesthetic leads to dumb bullshit like that one 3P giving chunky limbs to the one guy that is a gashadokuro wearing a tank or the current movie Optimus design.

It also helps that Ransack was envisioned from the script as a Jetfire-level old decepticon who was completely futile in his attempt to attack said defector.

Also that his design is cribbed from the Model-T based Transformer that would eventually evolve into Jetfire as "really old autobot".

Who even does this? The most copious use of die cast I know of is FT Sovereign. This dude's entire chest plate is a whack of die cast. You clearly never had the original Masterpiece Optimus. The chest windows were loose as fuck out of the box on top of being lopsided, but that was metal on plastic. >Diecast is a big part of why transformers were even successful in the first place. Imagine the g1 toys with zero metal. Fucking lame.
You're not from the 80s, are you?

Transformers sold because of the comic/cartoon and wide selection of transforming vehicles-into-humanoids.
That's it.

Diecast was in almost everything back then and it didn't help a lot of other toylines, so diecast really had no part in G1 toys being popular.

The fact that collectors like you that swear by it is solely for nostalgic reasons.
Diecast is shit.

pic of awesome diecast toys that bombed, which would have been awesome anyway even if it was made solely of plastic.

God damn, you. I hate this board. One minute I'm just scrolling along and the next I'm on ebay looking for a toy line I didn't know existed two minutes ago. I fucking love tiny vehicles and bigger vehicles that can hold them.
>>
>>6356386
G1 didn't even have diecast outside of the original Microchange and Diaclone imports. Once they started with their own designs Hasbro dropped that shit as fast as they could.

>>
>>6356401
I loved megaforce, since they were mostly in-scale with micro machines and had crazy gi joe-ish designs. A lot of the tanks were diecast with plastic turrets, and some were even inexplicably able to become defense towers.
>>
>>6356303
I don't think it looks bad at all. It's just a lot less dynamic in terms of poseability and proportions both.
>>
>>6356372

Well, if they were gonna get one mode right I guess I'm glad it's the robot.

That raptor though...yeeesh.
>>
>>6356433
To be fair, Dinobot's raptor mode has never not looked like shit.
>>
>>6356433
Does it look like his head actually forms the chest, or is it fake parts?
>>
>>6356440
His chest looks too wide and short to be the beast mode head
>>
>>6356433
My only worry is the head articulation on the beast mode. It's hard to tell exactly whats going on with prototype renders but I can't make out too many joints on that long neck.
>>
>>6356413
Die-cast tooling was/is actually a whole lot cheaper thsn plastic tooling. It's the reason Hasbro went ahead with the Titanium line.
>>
>>6356361
G2 sets were on clearance for $30 and that's as much as they're worth. Sure they had a lot of plastic and paint, but poor design decisions and QC made them awful as toys.

Example: G2 Menasor set's way-too-thick paint made it impossible for the figures to hold their weapons, things could not tab in, and there's just a general sense of cancerpaint falling all over your floor as you transform the toys.

Looks too much like the show model, so featureless and undetailed. It needs more details from the toy, the Masterpiece line was never about making toys look like the show model. But this toy is now shit because it has to be a slave from a badly animated cartoon by a bunch of animators who just didn't care about making a workable transformation. It's over the Masterpiece line is finished by this horrible need for show accuracy.

It wasn't. Different people found them in different places, with photos of the figures in the store.

>>6356289
I'm guessing it was some kind of mix-up at the factory. Maybe they used Takara's modified molds by mistake, and Hasbro just told them to use Takara's head's paint apps since IIRC both companies use special airbrush stencils tailored to each mold. It would explain why the even more recent runs of the figure are back to using the old headplate instead of Takara's being a running change.

This. I spent a good while comparing the toy to the show model and he's pretty darn accurate, maybe a little pudgier in the toy but not bad. Color and patterning really do a lot to change how something looks.

Well, it is now, and that is how it should ALWAYS have been. Show accuracy is EVERYTHING. I don't understand Transformers fans and wanting desperately for details from their widdle baby toys to be included in high-end collectibles. Toys are supposed to emulate the show model, but FAILED. They are FAILURES, wasted pieces of malformed, misshapen plastic. Now, you want those inferior genes to mutate a work of art? This is what eugenics is for. Purge those fuckers from our collective consciousness so that only show-accurate bots remain.

...yes, I know that the animation models are based on the toys, but the toys were just that fucking shitty that they had to change shit up. Look at how HIDEOUS that looks. Fuck the original toy. FUCK IT TO HELL with your nostalgic attachment for them.

>>
>>6356643
I'd rather have cool toys that are fun to play with and display than show accuracy. So long as the designs are interesting and reflect the character, I'm alright with them. Show accuracy for its own sake is neat, but I'd much rather the MP premium prices be reflected elsewhere.
>>6356633
That looks good but I can't help but think it would be better off as its own complete mold. Having a smaller (but still large) somewhat crap looking Optimus in a cooler, more normal Optimus isn't that interesting a gimmick. The 3P Ginrai add-on makes more sense.
>>
>>6356641

It is superior, the one in the middle looks too thin, look at the tiny noggin and long torso, the one on the far right just doesn't work, but it was the first one so its understable, yeah the kit is expensive but right now its the best option for IDW Prime robot mode.

Just found a use for this >>6356639 it will make a nice Stalker.
>>
>>6356471
I don't like how short his arms are compared to his torso. I get that it's accurate to the show, but it doesn't look cool or imposing enough for Dinobot. Primal is DEAD-ON with the show and he works. Looking at my Cheetor I feel they tweaked his proportions a bit from the show and he looks just great.
Anyway, I hope the line goes well enough that they branch out away from the show just because I'd kill for a MP Leo Prime.
>>
>>6356657
>But hasn't Optimus attempted to amend for it?
No not really, no. He seriously fucked Rodimus over; keep in mind the Lost Light was a privately owned ship that Drift bought with his own money and gave to Rodimus for the quest. Optimus just walked him and took it over and told Rodimus Megs was co-captain and oh by the way do what I say because I'm the goddamn Prime.

They resold the Combaticons and Laser Optimus Prime as new characters in Car Robots, but since all the budget in CR went to the new molds and Gigatron, they couldn't retool away the G2 Autobot symbol that was on Black Convoy's projectile disc. So they just said "flip it upside down it's their symbol since they're EVIL"

Later, Hasbro WOULD retool the discs for the US release of Scourge, since they were already retooling his sword to be less pointy.
