Brickseek tells me there's a bunch in stores that I've been to fairly recently, so I think you're right. Unless they actually do hold stuff in the back and I have to ask, though I've always assumed that did nothing.

Do you think Hasbro would consider doing Elite or high end Legends figures (better sculpt, articulation, accessories)? Does anybody know if the Elite Mattel figures do well sales wise?
>>
Comic shops around here (NYC) has finally started getting the ML X-Men wave in. Originally planned to get the whole wave via a case, but after seeing Shatterstar up close, I just might buy him immediately.
>>
>>6349487

He's not out yet.

Overseas ebay sellers only have him which isn't unusual since they get everything first.

It'll probably will be at least a few months until he hits the US. The Invisible Woman just started to ship to stores.
>>
>>6349611

Hasbro already does.

Elite WWE figures are essentially "Legends style" WWE figures.
>>
Anyone got the DCPI for the homecoming wave or is the same ol code?

Also I heard people found some at Walmart but what about Target
>>
I found a Spidergirl at Walmart and wanted a new space venom body because I messed mine up so I got it got home and can't get his arms out

It got to the point I was soaking him in hot water and even used pliers, but the pliers scratched some of the white paint on the back of the arm so I got mad. What can I do?

At this point I just want them off, switch the body and fix the paint or get new arms. Fml

So, I went by Walmart today and they had only this figure from the wave.
His armpit webbing is pretty shit and on mine, the left one doesn't like to stay on. Hands are alright but it would be great to have some open hands like previous Spideys before him. I don't have the Ultimate Spiderman figure on hand but I think those could work with him.
His second squinting head is alright, and the entire figure has this type of texture going all around; I never got the Civil War 3 pack so cant compare them.
The thing that bothers me the most is how the web shooters are sculpted inwards on the forearm, so when you turn his arm to the side and then move the hands, it wont line with the shooter itself. So for posing with web wires, it's a pain in the ass.
>>

>>6350858
Looking good, but I'm not digging how simple the front looks compared to the energy details at the visor end. Is it light enough to not need a stand though? That's nice.

>>6351011
How do the web wings attach, just clip-on under the armpits like with spider woman? I saw what they were going for, but they didn't really work.
>>
>>6351043
>Is it light enough to not need a stand though?
Yeah it just clips on his face.

I don't care as much for the smooth end either, but his optic blast is typically just a shaft unless it hits something. I'm waiting on the first test piece for the impact version to finish up right now.

Can someone help me before I lose my mind. I got a toybiz Doc Ock today and can't get him to stand up without looking like he's trying to do a fucking split. I've seen pics online and I have the variant colored figure (might be a KO) and he stands fine. I don't know if im not moving his legs right or if it's just fucked or what

A way to make them tighter would help too, I'm about to say fuck it and use super glue lol
>>
>>6351043
Yeah, you can see the hole in arm in the pic. And just like with Spider-Woman, they're molded to a certain pose, so they're useless for dynamic poses.
Like you said, good effort, but I'd rather have something else packed with it.
>>
>>6350849
Hey I saw your post on Facebook! Glad to see another person who goes on /toy/ lol.
>>
>>6351057
I'd like to see you play around with different versions, but I'm looking forward to it in any case.

>>6351073
That's disappointing, but they're also an accessory where I don't really see anyone getting it right. Toybiz made them rubbery and that was sort of a mess too. He looks alright enough otherwise though, so it won't sting too bad when I have to get him for the BAF part.
>>
>>6351096
I don't see any way to make the armpit webbing work that isn't a bummer one way or another.

It either is soft/stretchy, making it had to implement/potentially limiting in articulation/at risk for damage, or you make it hard plastic, meaning it only works in a few poses, if even.

>>
>>6351011

>>
>>6351276
To be fair, Renew Your Vows is a universe where MJ and Peter never got split up and Pete and MJ and now their kid all fight crime together as a family. So this is just an extension of that, and a way to turn MJ into Venom in time for Venomverse.

But the general push to turn love interests into heroes probably stems from the politically correct idea that having them just be love interests makes them nothing more than a damsel in distress plot device, which is kinda bullshit in most cases, it depends on the quality of the writing.

where do you get that wire? I use floral tape for my webbing, but it's not posable.

Not that poster, but that's the same wire used to hold most figures in the plastic tray for boxed or plastic clamshell packages.

I keep every wire I find or get for my Spider-Man figures.
>>
>>6354383
Insted of floral tape, use floral wire. Works wonders. They have various thicknesses as well.

Yeah, I recognise it. Usually the pieces are too short though. I like to chew on them since I was a kid (don't ask me why) buying a spool of it would be awesome.

Tried that. maybe I used the wrong kind, because it looked pretty lame. I like my webbing stringy. Twisting white floral tape and stretching it so it sticks to itself achieves that effect. Used to make yards of it and had spider-men hanging on my ceiling till I moved.

>>
>>6354621
Black Nick Fury is only a thing in the first place because part of the agreement to use SLJ's likeness for Ultimate Fury was that if they make a new movie with Nick Fury he gets to play him.

Thor with an axe seems more like a reference to Thor's recent adventures as Odinson, to me.

I don't think Grey looks great either, but I'll take it over everything about the Civil War 3-Pack Spidey.

>>6354775
I've actually heard pretty good things about both those figures. I think with Cable it's just that it's his modern design that nobody's especially into. Don't know why nobody'd want Kitty.
>>
>>6354775
Kitty's solid, and cable was low-key my favorite of the wave.

it's also a grey wash so there's more grey than you'd expect, especially around the arms and feet

the flash on my camera picked it up very well, normally it isn't that obvious of a grey but it's definitely not black which is a bummer

>>6354500
not bad, pretty neat, paint for the skin on the hands is pretty bad because the hand's plastic is black so any rub would look even worse
paint wash on the web shooters and nowhere else
and it's a little difficult to pop the head back on when you want to swap it out with the "hood up" piece, so i'm just gonna have it down

Huh, I'm surprised it only attaches at one point. A keyed peg is in the right direction, but I figured it'd have multiples like falcon.

You're Marvel or DC, and people are crying out for you to make your casts more diverse. Which of these two options do you go for?

1: Make new heroes, villains, and side characters, investing time and money into making high quality characters that readers respond to and enjoy, pay to have them put in video games and movies and have toys made of them.

2: Take an existing character and either make them a minority or a woman, or take a minority or woman character and give them a super identity.

The first is obviously the choice that takes more work, and thus more money, and runs the risk of not working. Look at Magog or Harvest over at DC. I don't even know of any attempts at new characters at Marvel in the past few years.

The second choice is far easier. You have a pre-existing name and icon, like Venom or Ghost Rider or Ms. Marvel, and you plug a new character into that. You inject new blood and attract new readership, plus you have the benefit of the already existing support of old concepts, readers, and creators. When it goes really well, you end up with a new iconic take on the character like Hal Jordan, Kyle Rayner, or Flash Thompson. When it goes poorly, you end up with shit like Lady Thor or, honestly, 90% of the hot takes on Jimmie Olsen over the years.

"Creators" is an important word to remember, too. When you make any character for the Big Two, they own that character going forward, and history shows they'll show you no love for your work. Look at what happened to Gary Friedrich or Alan Moore. So writers and artists willing to put in the work to create a totally new character, which is to say a completely new IP, are likely to take it to one of the lesser companies where they can control the rights personally.

This, by the way, is why you can't just make new diverse characters/casts in modern comics, it's why you sorta *have* to get rid of an old (usually) white (usually) male (usually) straight character to do that.
>>
>>6355400
Toy Biz is that GG all the way. Its even got a variant that is Norman
>>
>>6355400

Recent one from the Sandman wave. The Toy Biz one looks really outdated.
>>
>>6355446

Eh, rebooting an old character as someone new doesn't seem like an awful idea. Especially given how backstories which have already been retconned to hell probably get trickier and trickier.

Someone like Tony Stark is the obvious worst example. At some point he will have to have been born when his dad was 90 and he will have to be 90 for his dad to have been in WW2.
>>
>>6354927
because the BAF wingspan is much larger
i do want Ultimate Vulture, could care less about the spidey repaint because both Teen Spideys are based more on Immonen's art than Bagley's IMO

>>6355400

>>
>>6355446
>somebody understands there's a middle ground on this and it isn't just a matter of SJWs or not having new ideas

Or option 3, the easy one, take an existing character who doesn't get any love and push them in marketing.

Case in point, Blue Beetle, Static Shock, Black Panther etc etc.
It's been shown time and time again when you take a diverse character who doesn't get a lot of attention and push them, they succeed.
You don't have to get rid of anything, take something that isn't getting love and give it time and the right marketing and people will love it.
>>
>>6355446
Here's a question for this, why don't they run those old-style variety books where the writers and artists get a chance to throw shit at the wall and see what sticks? It's where all of Marvel's big ones came from.

Thor didn't show up in "Thor #1", he started in Journey into Mystery, Iron man was from Tales to Astonish, even spidey didn't headline his title. Wolverine, Deadpool, punisher, none of them did. Is this just not how it works anymore? Eventually the books found a groove like the back end of Strange Tales being doc and nick fury's stuff, and then they split off into their own shit. Bands don't start headlining madison square gardens, they start in dive bars, get some traction and work on up, and that seemed to be how shit worked for marvel back in the 60s.

If I were doing it, I'd run a book with two stories per issue and throw it to the readers. Whichever gets the most votes gets to continue on to the next issue. Not every idea's gonna be a hit, sure, but it beats the hell out of cancer thor or REEEREEEE.
>>
>>6355641
That's a really great idea, but I'm uncertain if a book like that would sell in today's market
>>
>>6355641
I really wish they'd explore alt universes more and have better writers. Like I thought a series where Black Cat takes on Spidey's mantle after he's killed would be cool, or another one where Peter is thrown into SHIELD after his parents are killed on a mission, he doesn't get spider powers but he makes a spider suit/armor for missions. If you want the classic look the ToyBiz one is definitely the one you'll want to look into but I'll say that it's technically an inferior figure to recent Sandman wave one. I say that as someone who used to think the ToyBiz one was one of the best Legends ever released.
The articulation on the new one surpasses the original thanks to having ankle pivot and more clicks in his ab crunch. The ToyBiz one only clicks forward once. The only place the ToyBiz one wins out are the hips which admittedly do help with glider poses. Oh and toe joints I guess.
But the headsculpt is a far more modern take on the Goblin. I almost wish Hasbro gave us two heads, whether the alternate be Norman unmasked or a classic head. I mean, Hobgoblin got two heads so why did Gobby get left out?

See, I was fine with Mosaic, but they didn't give me any reason to care about him.

You can't just give a character a completely new series out of the blue. You have to introduce them first. Then if they have some popularity first, you give them a mini. Then if that does well, try an ongoing.

There are exceptions to the rule like Ms Marvel, but she was pushed a lot.

Been fiddling with these guys for a few minutes, Moon Knight is fine but might suffer the most QC isssues in this wave. Most notably his armor pieces are attached with glue, some of which seeps down. Most can be removed easily; mine has some on the leg but has flaked and the rest should be able to be removed with nail polish remover. Not a bad figure but I feel like you might need to be a fan of this costume to make it work.

Homecoming Spidey is a treat, but not perfect. On a sculpting level, it's insane; every part of him has bumps, all the web lines are receded into the sculpt, and other parts are raised in relief. Finally out of the three that were there, Abner is the star of the show. He doesn't do anything particularly exciting, but he doesn't have to. The articulation is solid, most notably the ab crunch. Both versions have their strong points.

The old Toy Biz one has a great classic head sculpt and killer glider. The Hasbro one has a more modern head sculpt and a better body but the glider is tiny and really undersized.

IMO, overall I prefer the Toy Biz one but I'm more of a "classic" fan. I do though still love the Hasbro one and actually have both in my ML display. If you're fine with the "modern" Hasbro head and like to "pose" your figures, than by all means pick up the Hasbro.

They overdo it with Black Series, sure, but that's only because for some dumb-as-shit reason they're not allowed to do double-jointed elbows on Star Wars figures unless they hide them somehow.

But since that isn't a problem they face with Marvel Legends, they could easily use cloth for capes and long coats without ever getting to the point of their farmboy Luke

I picked up the Homecoming wave at Walmart in Edmond, yesterday.

Big Dumb Deadpool came in the mail today. Aside from the already-covered flaws (arms too skinny, head too tall, handguns and holsters not functional) he's also got his ankle pivots set at the wrong angle and his left leg is inexplicably longer than the right. Overall though, it's a great figure next to the 12" Spider-man, and is a lot more fun with extra accessories. I might have to pick up some new holsters and handguns for him, and dust off my old 3A weapons molds.

This is henceforth the chronicle of me having a hard time finding a cosmic cube prop.

I know there have been a couple cosmic cube accessories included with toys over the years, mostly Red Skulls. However, they're oddly difficult to find loose on ebay, or even to find simple resin casts of.
Thinking it was a simple geometric shape and in a fairly common color, I next tried to find some cube beads that could pass for a cosmic cube, figuring I could fill in the hole or just use it for posing purposes. But much to my surprise, there are no cube beads. All cuboid beads are really little faceted round things that don't fit the description at all.
Finally, I resolved to just make one out of resin myself. The only downside is that's a lot of work to make one blank plastic cube. With that in mind, I'll probably be filling it with pigments to give it that spacey, cloudy, starry look it has in the movies. And since that's even more work to make just one little plastic cube, I figure I should probably make a ton and just sell them on the internet. Call 'em Hyper Cubes or something. 3 bucks+postage gets you an 8*8*8mm cube filled with sparkly blue glowy stuff. Thoughts?

I found the Spiderman Homecoming wave today at Wal Mart. If i had been as lucky as the guy who got the whole wave for $7 each i would have bought the whole wave. I wasn't, so I just got Tombstone. I bought the J & J Security 2 pack so i would have a bigger body for that Hammerhead head. That worked pretty well for Hammerhead, but I tried the Tombstone head on the other body and HE'S A BIG GUY (4 u). He's a about a head shorter on the wrestler body, even after jamming some poster tack in the head. It might just be me, though, so I'll paint the flesh bits on the body granite grey like Lonnie and take some pictures later this week.

With Psylocke to fully replicate the high cut leotard you need to have the high cut painted beyond the torso mold, like pic related.

I'm concerned that if there's mass retail psylocke, Hasbro will get lazy and just have the whole lower torso be part of her one piece just like Angela
>>
>>6360912
Shut your cock trap. I waited over a decade for a good 90's Cyclops. Dazzler would have been better in her toned down look with the jacket, plus the ToyBiz and the Select Colossus are better than the recent Hasbro figure.

They can't articulate so they're horizontal like in some of the trailer shots when he's coming at the ground, but they're sufficiently articulated, yeah.

There's two hinges on each wing, the last third of the wing is also on a swivel so you can get that "folded up" look, and there's the two turbines in back that can hinge back too, and the turbines themselves can rotate and be angled.

Are there different ones? Why do they all differ slightly

The one that lights up is from Toybiz, frim the orifinal spider-man line. When Hasbro got the rights to ML they shat out a ton of repaints in weird offshoot waves. The metallic painted Mysterio that loses the light up feature is Hasbro's release. The line was Spider-Man Origins.
