Where to buy second hand Shinkis:
>eBay, Amazon - generally overpriced, but you might get lucky.
>Mandarake, Rakuten - search 武装神姫 and don't trust listing images.
>Yahoo Japan Auctions, Suruga-ya - you'll need a proxy if you’re not in Japan.
>Taobao - some shops ship international now, so you might not need a proxy.
>Amiami, Jungle-scs - occasionally get some preowned.
>Check the BST threads, My Figure Collection, and Busou Shinki World too.

I got the upgrade sheet to make Jinrai and the Matetrias "show-accurate" and I'm a little bit dissapointed. I thought the sheet was going to be decals or maybe regular stickers, but instead its strange ultra-thin metallic stickers that I haven't really seen used for models before. They're very difficult to position and get to stay flat. I'm worried that, being stickers and not decals, they'll come off at some point. Do you think a topcoat spray will help, or hurt?

It is part of the Gigantic Arms line. As such it will most certainly be designed to be reconfigured into whatever your imagination is capable of, just like the first two(the legs and arms of the mech suit) and the next two coming out (the truck and trailer)

Further information
Gigantic Arms 01 is the Powered Guardian which is composed of 2 other Arms
Gigantic Arms 02 is Blitz Gunner, the top to powered guardian
GA 03 is Movable Crawler, the bottom to 01

Upcoming
GA 04 is Armored Breaker, which like the first GA is composed of the other two GA in the wave
GA 05 is Convert Carrier, forms the top of the Armored Breaker and the cargo trailer can turn into a large number of things
GA06 is Rapid Raider, forms the legs of the 04 and for some odd reason so far they have only shown it in either combined mech form or just as the bike. Unlike the carrier they did not show any other possible configurations yet. We might see more when it is up for preorder.

So yes it appears that Gigantic Arms main gimmick will be tons of possibilities in integrating them with the other kit lines. I also would not be surprised if they release some sort of official promo image of a super mech of more then one Gigantic Arms waves being combined.

What kind of results can I expect from hand painting a FAG? I have a full set of brushes and a full set of Army Painter acrylics from my miniature painting and would much rather use those than go buy an airbrush and new paints.

It seems to me like the areas I would be painting are mostly small enough that brush strokes wouldn't be a huge problem but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any close up pictures of some hand painted FAG's? Or is anyone experienced with hand painting these kind of models in general who could give tips?
>>

Is this for the groupbuild?

Most of the hand painted FAGs on twitter/Modellers-G and blogs are "okay" to "so-so" tier.

I don't get it though, why some Nip modellers use Holbein gouaches on their plamo.

I these arent FAGS but how are the Megami Device models?

I was interested in getting a FAG, but I noticed none of them come with a sniper rifle. I saw these and it's made by the same company.

what are your thoughts?

also, if you know of any FAGs that come with a pistol I would love to know!
>>

Megami device are alright but I heard the hip joints can be prone to hamhanding
If you want some sniper rifles or pistols for your FAG you should look into the MSG (modeling support goods) line
>>
>>6351226
They're pretty much the successor to Busou Shinkis. First two sets are very good for customizing.

You could always try adding something more like a peach color to lighten it up, but do save that color, it's an amazing "little brown girl" brown. Actually, what were your ratios? I may want that later.

Use natural light whenever possible and make sure the focus is somewhere useful. Right now her arm is in focus and the depth of field is so narrow everything else is narrow. Actually, is the light really blue or is your white balance way off?
>>
>>6351543
Yeah, my white balance is way off because I think it looks kind of neat personally. I don't really have a good lens for taking close-up pictures, so I was just using my manual focus and I guess I had it a little off.

Am I the only one here that collects the books? I was thinking of passing until I saw it came with a book. Both shinki books, the LA book, the FAG modeling book...
>>
>>6352627
No dude, I love the books. The FAG modeling book is my absolute favorite. I told myself I was going to curb my FAG spending, but seeing that she comes with a book, I'm super tempted to buy her...

So I am considering making a limited run of 3D printed weapons/accessories for FAGs, mostly /k/ meme guns like a Famas and Mosins but open to suggestions. Would you be interested?
>>
>>6352753
Oh god, P90, please! It's my favorite gun and I'm so disappointed that I can't find a 1/12th size anywhere. Pretty surprised Little Armory hasn't picked it up either.
>>
>>6352770
>P90
That may actually be a good idea, bullpups seem to agree more with FAGs than full sized rifles.
Fair warning tho, kits would be similar to Little Armory as in a sprue and requiring painting, that said according to the company I am in contact with, parts would be without flash and with good surface finish.

An Uzi would be easier since I could get a hold of blueprints or even the real gun a lot easier than a RK 62, that said I'll give it a look

I was actually expecting suggestions for accessories, I could do extra parts or maybe holsters or similar. Maybe WWII stuff? Or /a/ memes, as long as I can CAD it.
>>
>>6352796
$12 for Mr. Top Coat itself isn't that unreasonable. I get mine for about that much including tax, though I get it at a brick-and-mortar store, not online. The one on amazon is way overpriced though so avoid that if you can.

Hobbywave is a good price right now when you consider going out if business sales. Just buy like 6 cans, shipping will likely be cheaper than tax that way since it's 12 bucks no matter how many you order.

Doing it via the instructions kills the ball joint.

Insert the ball alone into her torso, THEN plug the entire hip assembly into the ball joint. It's far more secure because the shaft now pushes the ball against the walls of the socket.

Now if I bend my Materias too far her hips unplug leaving the ball in the torso.

I hope to paint them one day when I get money for an airbrush and other equipment. I really wonder how do you paint it and erase the seams because, I usually see that the parts are painted unasembled, so then what? you apply cement to weld AFTER painting and assembling again?
>>
>>6354643
You mentioned model kit style so it could be a good idea to go with one of the ones that have several different configurations. Design it like the Gundam weapon systems kits where you could build three or more different weapons depending on the parts you assemble with. I have not played the game myself and since on mobile atm can't get you images yet, but the ftp first assault is a ghost in the shell game and has a seburo assault rifle that I believe is fairly high in customization options. Since it's in a game you could use that for some excellent reference from all angles if the weapon selection menu allows it and you are lucky maybe people even ripped model files.
>>
>>6354662
Personally, I always paint after nipping, cutting, and sanding. I try to separate things into the smallest completed units I can. By that I mean that instead of painting parts totally unassembled, I'll put together as many non-moving parts that aren't going to be removed from each other as possible. The seam-welded upper thigh on a FAG, unattached from the pelvis or the lower leg, is a single "unit", for instance, as is a rifle with a particular configuration. If there's a part of the unit that is going to connect to another part and shouldn't be painted, such as the openings in the thigh where the polycaps are, I just mask it.This way you can ensure a clean, all-encompassing paint job. When everything's try, that's when you finally put it together.
>>
>>6354662
A combination of assembled and unassembled is how I always see them done and how I do it. Parts that need to be seam welded are assembled only up to wat needs the welding. Other parts like armor bits can be painted without being assembled. Take a closer look at this image. At first glance it looks completely unassembled, but look closer at the thigh piece, assembled and welded I bet. Also looks like a couple of the armored limbs are partially assembled

I'm sure something like a nice chunky bolter or meltagun would be doable, although a flamer would be nice since I don't think there are any 1/12 scale flamethrowers out there yet.

Now I want to make a Tau girl faceplate and field a FAG as a riptide. There's already enough guns, missiles, and shields released to build appropriate loadouts. Only problem might be that even Baselard is taller than a ripdide.[/

>>
>>6355455
>>6355678
I like the Mauser idea, yes.
It would be exceptionally useful for me if you could recommend specific weapons of parts. I am planning on doing a single runner for now, that means 2-3 weapons and some extra bits, pistols could be molded in one piece so they would use little space on the runner.
Maybe a pair of boots could be useful as well?

Personally I like the sleeker design of the P90 with the top-mounted mag and that wicked rad loading mechanism. That's way more scifi if you ask me.

Megami Devices ARE smaller then FAGs so that could be an option for that route.

Here is a FAG next to a imperial knight if that helps you figure out sizes.

Since they charge per piece I can keep prices low by making a runner, just like regular kits.

More than photo I would use some dimensions, particularly the different widths. Photos of the back and front would be quite useful as well, the most centered as possible the better.

After all that 40k talking that was going down for two threads? Of course your image was getting saved, very important reference. Shame about price of the thing though, will make it harder for me to get around doing a custom. I am eventually going to go into /po/ and snag one of their papercraft titan files and see if I can use that to make enough parts I need for a titan girl out of plaplate or something.

not sure if you have any MDs but where the FAGs eyes are at is where the head of an MD reaches. That might still be a little too tall. But then again, Tau battlesuits including ripetide have a digitgrade leg style going on. if you could make articulated digirade legs then that could help reduce her height even further.

It works. I use it regularly as a gap filler.
>>
>>6358870
To add onto that, I'm thinking that using thin cement, which doesn't have any additives, is better than using Mr cement deluxe or any of the normal cements. Been finding that with those the additives cause the pigment in some darker colors to separate.

You wouldn't think it would be so hard to get a damn 1/12 maid outfit.
When are they going to release more of these?
>>

It's been done. Some modellers use plastidip, others use heat shrink tubing to coat parts.

No idea if that holds up over time.

If anything, the FAG parts that are flesh toned stop right before the joints, unlike 1/6th scale figures that completely go over the joint areas and flex there.

From what I know, that flexing is what causes silicone to crack over time.

The catch I think, is to remove about up to 1mm from the ABS plastic before that layer is replaced with silicone, to give proper depth?

One more thing: These silicone samurai are almost the same size as FAGs.
>>
>>6359145

I'm probably going Japan within the next year so hopefully i'll find some.

Right, so if this is considered on-topic enough I'll just post a few pictures...

I can't find any of my damn tape measures, so you will have to bear with me on specifics (and tell me which ones you need me to measure for you) but I did get the following out of the manual (I assume you already have this):

>P90
>Overall length 500 mm ( 19.7")
>Width 55 mm (2.2")

Here is the view from the back. Note I have a custom mount on mine, so you probably want to model it based off of the generic integrated optic instead of mine.

Side to help explain what you see from the front.

I also noticed that your model posted above did not include the fire selector, you should include that.

PS: Since you said they charge by the piece if there is room you should consider including the dominator from Psycho Pass, not exactly a /k/ weapon but it would be pretty neat with some fluorescent paint I think.

Thanks, that does help.
I have made a diagram of all the flat surfaces which seems to have the same width, could you confirm if it is correct? It goes Red-Orange-Green-Blue. I have estimated a 4,5mm step between them.

I am including the fire selector of course, I am having problems trying to make it pivoting tho, since it would mean making the trigger a separate part as well. Would it be to much of a deal to leave it in a fixed position?

For that price, you could buy an entire Zenrai, an entire Ruyrai, the MSG assault rifle set, and (depending on where you buy them from) you'd still have some money left.
>>
>>6359161

Drying out is what causes rubbery material to become brittle and crack. The flexing just makes the cracking worse. But you don't have to move it and it can still crumble. Talk to vintage Transformers collectors about rubber tires.
