For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

So I left the vote up, and both lines won. So:

Frame Arms Group Build

This time the idea is to build any Frame Arms, or Frame Arms Girl kit, and paint and customize it.

The rules are overall pretty simple, the base must be recognizable as FA or FA Girl, other than that there's no limit on what you can do.

Due Date: September 1st

Note: This is a prize build, there will be a prize provided by me, there will also be a mystery prize provided by another anon. That means that to enter, I need WIP pictures submitted before the due date. Simply email me some pictures of you working on it, I don't care at what point, as long as it's possible to tell where your final product came from.

Prize Pack:
MSG Free Style Bazooka
MSG Impact Knuckle
MSG Beast Sword
MSG Assault Rifle #2
Miscellaneous supplies

I'm probably going to add more, but I'll let those be a secret.

Email: [email protected]

I'm also available via IRC and Steam.

Even if you fail, you'll still have gotten something out of it.

Honestly, once you've built enough kits the process loses luster. Especially with how standardized MG is getting: if I never build another Generic Gundam Frame again it will be too soon.

Yeah, it's the FA and the FAG, that's probably made by just sticking the waist peg on the FA into the backpack hole on the FAG. It's $30 for that bit of fun, I might go for it if HLJ has stock when Ater releases and my wallet isn't full of moths.

Anyone here has built any of the Macross Hasegawa kits? I'm kinda interested in trying the VF-0S but I wonder if they require glue, how much paint, etc
>>
>>6348392
It was a story created by the artist Kow Yokoyama in the early 80s, back then it was called SF3D. He designed the mecha for this post-apocalyptic story, and a model kit company called Nitto made kits of the designs. The kits got a very devoted fanbase because of their gritty, realistic take on mecha, compared to gundam and super robot stories.

The kits have continued to be released ever since the early 80s because the fanbase is so devoted to them.

This video was made in the 80s when the kits had their release popularity... instead of making an anime, they did a live action SF3D video using the SF3D models

https://youtu.be/1AYFcrgmou8
>>
>>6348429
bretty neat. Any experience with the kits themselves?
>>
>>6348421
Yes, you will need to paint them and glue them. Hasegawa is different than Bandai... Bandai will make pre-colored parts and easier snap building, but Hasagawas details are better, but you need to paint and glue. Hasegawa sells more toward the modeling crowd instead of the gunpla crowd.
>>
>>6348392
There is a very loose story since the models were scratch build for Hobby Japan.

>>6348435
The modern Wave and Hasegawa kits are good, however, they require seamline filling and painting to look good.

So.... After the torso peg snapped in my Ver. Ka Sinanju (I got the Titanium finished one too... so it was my second most expensive kit)

I decided it's about time to get started on this fucker.
The Ver Ka was probably the most annoying kit I've built. Especially thanks to the lack of polycaps......

So I'm going to take my time building the PG Unicorn and I'll hopefully be able to enjoy it like all the other kits I've built.

I'm going to look for a metal rod or pipe and build into the Sinanju's waist section as a replacement.
Also... I need to try and get that fucking backpack set in place too... which won't fucking do it no matter how hard I push... That fucking kit...... I'd have thrown it in the bin if it didn't look so cool

Anybody here have luck buying Tamiya paints on eBay from Taiwanese sellers? The prices are tempting, but I'm not sure if knockoff paints are a thing.
>>
>>6349421

Dalong had some text under an image saying something along the lines of "normal feet must be borrowed from the regular 1/100", which fooled me.

It's technically "correct" since you don't have enough polycaps to build both kinds of feet but you saved me, so thanks.

Now I just need to think of a color scheme.

Note also that the hole is not perpendicular to the surface, but at an angle. When the head is in a neutral position the hole is almost parallel to the ground.

Tell us why it's shit, Anon. What you typed isn't worth much.
>>
>>6353891
>>6353979

Not that anon but that Flag is thin and has no polycap at all so the arms and legs have no smooth movement. The legs can only bend 90 degrees and the front skirts always get in the way.

Too bad anon haven't seen the Brave Commander type. That is much worse than the flag.

It makes me so much salty because Bandai can't make Graham's mobile suit properly.
>>
>>6353979
I thought the reviews had it covered, hence why I didn't elaborate, but I feel like ranting about it anyway;
>headpiece is held on by friction alone, just touching one of the helmet wings makes it fall off
>no polycaps, just ABS so everything just jerks around
>virtually no ankle movement
>knees bend 90 degrees despite being sticks
>moving the upper leg makes skirt parts pop off, even though they're tiny
>shield constantly falls off
>sword is too small for the hand and just slips right through
>gun only sits in hand through sheer anger of the person trying to pose it
>only one set of hands (fist to put weapons in)
>wears a huge backpack so massively backheavy
The thing is a nightmare to pose, I'm sure it would be faster to take it apart and put it back together in your desired position.
Of course, I gave transforming a try to see if I could just display it like that instead, but that was awful.
The transformation can only go about 90% before parts start popping off - think cheap bootleg transformers where parts barely reach to clip into other parts.

When it transforms, the waistmoves forward and up to kind of merge with the chestpiece. When I saw how dumb the transformed mode looks, I tried to get it back into standing form and I just couldn't get this thing back down. I tried until armour started popping off and that was the last straw.
This is the first kit I have thrown across the room in anger, and I hope to god it's the last.

I have a question for those who panel line with pens, any tips of 'reviving' pens? Or is this a case of once the tips wear out you just can't fix something that tiny no matter how much fresh ink is still inside? Really annoying how fast these tips are wearing out before draining the pens of ink.
>>
>>6353891
This the HG or the 1/100?

Cause my friend has the 1/100 Over Flag and it's a mess.
>>

>>
>>6352520
please
>>
Just ordered Full Armor Thunderbolt Gundam.

What am I in for?
>>
>>6354365
That is why I suggest Copic pens instead of "Gundam pens".

Having the tip wear out on a Gundam pen before the ink runs out is a good way for them to get more money out of you. Copic has pens that you can buy just the tip or ink refil. They have a a 0.03 pen that is smaller than the smallest Gundam pen and is perfect for panel lines. They also have different colors like gray and brown if you do not like the Dalong black panel line look.
>>
>>6354598

They're also very easy to wipe off excess from, moreso than the gundam markers in my experience. I have only used the 0.05 and larger though.
>>
>>6354598

Fuck yeah, Copics are the shit for lining.
>>
>>6354598
I did not mention Gundam pens because I am not referring to just gundam pens, yes one of the pens was Gundam, but I have others such as the really small Sakura Micron pens. I might look into copics for my collection though, just know this is more then just a 'gundam marker scam to get more money' and more of a 'normal use of these types of pens won't wear them out as fast as rubbing them on hard plastic' issue common to any pen like this.

>>6354365
For anyone else looking at this and having the same issue I have 'solved' the issue. Shaved a bit of the sides of the tip with a exacto knife seemed to do the trick. Unfortunately the Micron is so tiny I accidently shaved away most of the tip with the firsty attempt. Had to take wire cutters and removed a bit of the metal tip the pen tip comes out of. Doing all that however works a little TOO well and puts out much more ink then they did before.
>>
>>6354670
I thought a knife might work. That's not an issue I've run into yet but I'll be sure to remember the solution.

No, it's a large HG, or a 1/100 non grade. The polycaps it uses are the old PC-132 set, which is what the HGUC Jegan uses.

Worked on weathering my y-wing now that the satin coat has had a few days to settle. I haven't done any weathering stuff in like a year so I was a little rusty and went a little heavier on the chipping than I originally wanted, but tried to keep most of it towards the front and front facing parts of the model.

What do you guys think, too much? Too sloppy?

And the canopy isn't on all the way because I have a plastic tab on the inside for the clip to hold onto and its blocking it (Ill remove it during final assembly).
>>
>>6355047
It looks fine enough, though I have to question why you focused on the front half. Does this Y-Wing constantly re-enter the atmosphere or something? I'd imagine there'd be at least a few stray hits to the back. Or maybe there actually is some weathering back there and I just can't see it due to the focus.

Other than that, I'd say it looks fine enough.
>>
>>6354834
Was the slanted decal on the left heel on purpose? I'm not sure what's going on with that.

Also is that white part on the shield supposed to be a beam saber? Normally that part is gray because it's a machine gun.
>>
>>6355183
I focused more on the front because if my memory serves they were primarily used as bombers which meant that they'd most likely be flying right into enemy space and more likely to accumulate damage on the front side while flying towards the defenses during bombing runs. That and the front is so big it would help block most of the body from collisions with random space debris during flight.
>>
Time for a check in, boys! What's in those backlogs?

>Was the slanted decal on the left heel on purpose? I'm not sure what's going on with that.
Nah, it's too small of a tilt to be intentional. I didn't notice it until you pointed it out.

The white nub is the beam saber from the right forearm of the Red warrior. The machineguns are on the other side, where there isn't the cross. I wanted to keep the saber of RW, but put a double beam gun like the Perfect Gundam.

>>6354557
I think it's one of the coolest kits I have myself. I really love the Thunderbolt aesthetics because it's like a modern take on the classic styles. It's not really over the top even though it's got four fucking shields and weapons everywhere haha

It's basically a "normal" RX78 design under all the armour, but there's something about the face that makes it look meaner than other Gundams. It just looks mad as fuck.

Be patient with the vinyl bits. I think it's cool but it can be tricky to build.

Also, I'd recommend getting one of the proper action bases

I haven't put all the waterslides on yet...... There's just so many, but it will look so much cooler once I get them on. I'm currently building my PG unicorn though, and then I need to sort out the broken torso peg in my Ver Ka Sinanju :( :( :( :( That kit was nothing but fucking trouble
>>

>Still, something about him just rubs me the wrong way.
He speaks, sounds, and kinda acts like you would expect from a super liberal hipster. It's kind of incredible that he's a real person but I don't think he's that bad.
>>
>>6354557
Way too many accessories. And not even good looking ones, TB murdered the shoulder cannon.

But if you like tons of shit, and are okay with the extent of your posing options being "it just floats there on an AB" then you're in for one wonderful experience.

If you got the MG, you can also enjoy Katoki's newest fetish: tons and tons of hidden missiles.
>>
>>6355332
>Katoki's newest fetish
He designed the Heavyarms, right? Hidden missiles are probably a sort of on-again off-again fetish for him.
>>
>>6355315
Nah he's not that bad at all. I guess it's just because I used to play/collect/build/paint Warhammer since like... '94 and I guess I just got tired of that "king of the nerds" character type you know?
Like you'd be at a tournament and that dude would just belittle every single thing you said or did. It feels like every community with nerdy type stuff always has that guy you know?
Also met some really elitist people through work, so I guess I'm just really tired of that attitude even if I get 1% of that feeling you know hehe

Not saying Zaku is that bad at all, it's just the vibe I get from him sometimes.
Also, I guess it's because our tastes in gundams are very different hehe.
I really dug his videos about Gunpla shopping in Tokyo. He showed some nice spots.
I loved the Gundam Front store though. Can't wait to go back and see the 1:1 Unicorn.
The food court in the mall is insane too!

hehe I may be putting way too much thought into this, I'm just sad Gundamguy's site is dead and nothing's happening at work... I should get to work in a kit instead of typing here haha
>>
>>6355332
I love the accessories haha, it's got weapons everywhere and looks mean as fuck.

I do wish it could lift the right arm without support though... I thought about getting the hangar just so I could swap the weapons out and do some more dynamic poses, but it's expensive as fuck for a black plastic hangar and a couple of weapons.
Gunpla is just mad expensive here in Europe... And you're lucky if you buy some from japan and it slips through customs

So I'm a dirty /co/ and marvel toy crossposter.
I've always loved Gundam and wanted to do kits, but my parents never let me as a kid. Getting interested in it again, I wanted to grab something for my first that would look pretty cool.

G in Reconguista I hear was pretty shit, but I love the mech designs. I wanted to do something that combined the color scheme of Nova, one of my favorite Marvel guys and combine it with the G-Self. At first I wanted to go with Shining Gundam because I grew up with G-Gundam, then I considered Full Armor Gundam 7th.
What do you guys think?

Ended up going with a darker shade of blue on this one.
With the lighter stuff it looked like the light-blue lighting was being washed out by the brightness of everything around it, so I found a more accurate color.
>>
>>6355388
Yeah, I'm really feeling that. I feel like there's too much yellow around the midriff though - change the bit that used to be red to the dark blue and the yellow will really pop on the waist.
Also, remember that the clear pieces are UV activated.

I'm not sure what your level of painting skill is (if you want to keep each piece a single colour or not) but that light blue/grey you have makes a great highlight.
>>
>>6355426
I've done some minor painting on other non-gunpla kits and some painting for customs, so it seems like something I can handle and isn't too complicated.
I'm not super intimidated as it doesn't look too complicated. I'm pretty excited, for the most part. As for the grey bits, those were the colors I found this specific linework in. I assumed it was the frame bits.

I just started using it (1200) and I've been doing something between 50/50 paint/thinner and like 60/40, so far it seems to work really well, at least with a 0.4.

It's not that exact since it's my first time using paint that I need to use a pipette for rather than the vallejo styled dropper bottles.

There are many kinds of waterslides, some are more difficult than others.

Either way, picking _that_ as your first exposure to waterslides sounds like a bad idea.

It needs glue for like half the kit, the shoulders fell to bits even while i was gluing them together. What's a good black primer for models that doubles as a paint? I want to paint an inner frame black, and I feel like using a primer would be enough for the job because I'd be flat coating it and painting some small details anyways.
>>
>>6357288
I quite like Alclad gloss base black. If you can find it locally, The Army Painter also makes a spray primer that's black.
>>
>>6357294
Searched, but didn't see any alclad in a spray can. I'm an airbrushless pleb right now.

If the army paint goes on like most primers (kinda powdery), do you think it can be polished up just to smooth it out? Not necessarily make it glossy, but just keep it from being all flaky/powdery.
>>
>>6357307
Yeah, you're gonna have to paint over it if you're not using an airbrush. Which at that point I think you might wanna just use whatever spray primer you have and some Vallejo, P3, Reaper, or GW black.

No problem. If you've got a Hobby Lobby nearby they'll usually have Tamiya primer and Vallejo paints.

Yeah. My local hobby lobby has tamiya primers, but no Vallejo. They have testors sprays and testors and model makers paint jars. I've had a bad experience with the Testor's, so I may just order something else.

There is a local gaming store that has Warhammer stuff, and they may have something, though.
>>

>Does anyone know where I can get a replacement sticker sheet?

You're out of luck, although you could quite easily just use some green paint and get the same effect.
>>
>>6357349
Yeah. I've heard a lot of good about GW stuff. So question: the GW Chaos black is listed as a primer, but I've seen people using it by itself. Would that be okay for my purposes? I'm combining parts from 2-3 including some frame parts possibly, and would like to make sure everything is a uniform color.

Your build seems fine, I can't see any nubs so that's a good sign. Only issue I can see is that your panel lines are a bit thick, giving them a light-rubbing with a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol should solve that.

I find the mr color clear flat looks quite a bit flatter than I can get the vallejo flat to look, so I prefer it.

Sadly neither are as flat as the original color (vallejo model air nato black).
