Takara paint is high quality. I've tried to remove paint ON PURPOSE on some of my figs for customization purposes and it took effort. I've also transformed my Takara Blurr (which has painted parts that need to touch for transforming) and my MP Megatron multiple times and it they have no paint nicks. Stop being a hamhanded poorfag.

As a newcomer sometimes it feels like this franchise isn't for me and newer fans. I don't have any real attachment to the characters since I didn't grow up with G1 (tried watching the first season and couldn't finish it. It's just not very good...) so I don't really get excited for new TF toys since they're mostly all G1 redesigns I'm not familiar with and they complain when they're 'not G1 enough' but I don't care so long as the design looks cool.

However, you should look at some older toys any way. As far as articulation and complexity go, there hasn't been ANY general improvements in the last 10 years. In fact, a toy from 10 years ago may be bigger and sturdier. I grew up with Beast Wars, didn't care much for Beast Machines and outgrew the series by RiD (the awful dub and ugly toys didn't help), and it wasn't until probably 2006/2007 thanks to the IDW comics, and even then it was sporadic, since I have much fonder memories of the Beast Wars characters.

I've slowly gained an appreciation of the G1 characters over the years, but I'm still a Beast Wars fan at heart, and HasTak has no real interest in giving Beast Wars any more than the occasional bit of lip service.

Or worse still, a convention exclusive Tarantulas or Tigatron that doesn't even have a tarantula or tiger altmode.

Never read them besides the odd issues I find on /co/. My favorite TF series are Animated, Car Robots, and Beast Wars and those series don't really get new toys today so I'm probably going to be collecting older stuff. /co/ has a list that is in chronological order (rather than release order). But I'm fairly certain the IDW Collection volumes follow the chronological order as well. The IDW stuff is actually pretty good. Probably the best modern take on TF's we've gotten or will get. Of course, it isn't perfect, because comics never are due to the revolving door nature of the medium where writers/artists pop in and drop out all the time, but it's a good enough read and something I follow, being it's, well, as I said, the best modern TF interpretation we've got.

That said, theres some definite full retard moments in it. Arcee being turned into a tranny is one of them, because the writer at the time (Simon Furman) threw a fit about "no female TF's ever" and the editors at the time didn't bitch slap his crooked limey teeth out of his mouth. Which only gets weirder over time as IDW has tried to retcon and forget "hurr no female TF's" as hard as possible. All Hail Megatron was a weird bit because it basically discarded some of the previous stuff (but not really) and sort of served as a launching point for everything else. Some of the crossover stuff (TF VS Avengers, that weird zombie crossover) were just not worth reading at all. The recent season finale for Lost Light was a huge let down, too.

Other than those notable downpoints, it stays fairly consistent on the "good to not openly terrible" scale of quality, like most comics. So yeah, I'd say pick it up and start reading.

It can fit Megatron well...just not BW Megatron, who needed a more charismatic deep voice like David Kaye's. Either Norio Wakamoto or Takehito Koyasu (the irony of him as Primal will never not be funny to me) would have been better fits for Beast Megatron in Japanese.

I know I won't be the first to say it but:

Am I the only one truly bummed by the lack of a Victory Saber in Titans Return? Oh, I know there's a very damn good chance we'll see a retail Star Saber in Power of the Primes but in the event that line doesn't feature some 'power up mode' gimmick it seems like a missed opportunity. He would have been the only Leader class where a full-helmet-over-tiny-head feature (like PM Prime, Blaster and Soundwave) would have actually made sense and not been goofy. He could have gone all "BATTLE UP!" and it would have been a neat callback to Victory.

I hope that if we do get a good retail Star Saber in POTP that he at least has some engineering call back to his original toy and the brainmaster gimmick.

I think it'd be interesting if some remaining Autobots outside Prime's group join with Megatron and form and alliance, thus isolating the few human-sympathizing Autobots left and ironically making Megatron the one to "end" the war. We finally get to see "Peace through Tyranny", with two sides fininding mutual agreement in the need for a new home. Humans would be subjugated, but not slaughtered, thus not making Megatron entirely evil, and making the remainder of the autobots unsure how to proceed.

That's the concept I kinda had for what I envision the Bayformers Beast Wars to be. Cybertronians mostly decided, regardless of being Autobot or Decepticon, that they should put Cybertronians first. Humans get subjugated and there're just a few small cells of TFs that are human sympathizers. One such cell discovers a way to hid from Cybertronian scanners by disguising themselves as local wildlife and call themselves Maximals. A counter group, Predacons, end up getting developed and there's the "Beast Wars".

In said Mad Max idea, I also used Maximals and Predacons, mostly Maximals, that functioned as trackers and harnessed organic energy to get around the fuel shortage. To further the MM homage, K-9 would've been one of the main characters. Predacon bugs would be living in the dead remains of citybots as roving scavengers and bandits. I always thought Hasbro should revive Maximals/Predacons as minicon/Legends sized figures, with organic beast modes. Make them sort of "in-scale" with Deluxes, albeit loosely.

Beastformers in general get critisized for same-y Transformations and reused animals, but if you look at the American and JP Beast lines in late 98/99, there where a lot of interesting design choices made. America had beasts that never had a TF before, like owls, rams, hyenas, etc. Japan went for straight up mundane but interesting beasts like penguins and giraffes.

So please no lions and t.rexes and generic bugs, yes to more obscure prehistoric beasts and creepy deep sea creatures and more cool choices, and experimentation in general.

The way the BW lines worked around that was to make more than half the line non-mammalian; BW had insects on the Predacon side, and BW Neo had dinos for most of the Predacons.Also, its kinda unfair to sa the beast lines had lazy execution; transformations in general weren't that complex at that point. Most transformers for the 12 years before that where vehicle TFs where the front would be the chest, the rear part would pull down for legs, and the side became arms. If anything bW was the first line with actual involved transformations being a regular thing.

Not just mammals. A lot of the figures ultimately kind of worked that way or simply sidestepped the problem by being a shell around an underlying figure. Not saying there aren't good Beast Wars figured, because there absolutely are, but I think a new line could hit higher consistent quality.

Maybe? I typically prefer Takara over Hasbro, but I passed on MP-36 based on the pics alone. The shitty cartoon 'con badge and gray paint were deterrent enough. The reports of the complicated transformation have had me looking at 3P alternatives.

However, I always find myself enjoying figures that /tfg/ hates. I love Tailgate, and MP Tracks is pretty fuckin' awesome. I think the problem is that hamhanders just haven't figured out how to tab in his shoulders/backpack, because mine has zero issues.

For as good as the DNA kit for Devy is, I wish it came with some replacement parts for Scavenger..

The joint that makes up devy's right elbow is too weak and barely strong enough to hold up his new forearm, and the joint meant to be the stock shoulder joint comes loose constantly from the added weight with nothing to lock it in place (you see the rubber band I use to keep it in place here)

Like a new solid part that doesn't rotate to replace the obsolete shoulder joint, and a replacement elbow with better friction would have made it perfect. And Scavenger is pretty damn easy to disassemble anyway too..

Every figure that I get, I always try to create a fan mode of a scorpion.
I'm not sure I'll ever be able to get the eventual titan class Scorponok, cause of the price point.
Sixshot looks like he comes damn close to being perfect to remold into scorponok. Replace his forarms with claws, remove the alt mode kibbles, and replace the wings with scorpion legs and you've got everything but the tail.
Or possibly skyshadow if you replace his jet backpack with tail/legs, and permanently attach his legs.

I love the new head and face mask but the rest looks like generic armor. I feel similarly about Optimus.
