Where to buy second hand Shinkis:
>eBay, Amazon - generally overpriced, but you might get lucky.
>Mandarake, Rakuten - search 武装神姫 and don't trust listing images.
>Yahoo Japan Auctions, Suruga-ya - you'll need a proxy if you’re not in Japan.
>Taobao - some shops ship international now, so you might not need a proxy.
>Amiami, Jungle-scs - occasionally get some preowned.
>Check the BST threads, My Figure Collection, and Busou Shinki World too.

Has anybody kitbashed older models like Stylet and Gourai with Materias? if so, how was the result?
>>6286713
Not sure what you think the result should be, because you can just straight up switch out limbs and heads.
How many faceplates/pieces can 8 oz of epoxy resin get for me?
>>6286679
To be fair, that Jinrai is still pretty beefy
>the mould line around the edge of materia's hair
Jesus Christ, who though this was a good idea.
>>6286856
Yeah. It takes me right back to the hours spent scraping mold-lines off of Warhammer figures.
But if you lightly sand the WHOLE THING, then matte-coat it, it looks really good.
>>6286774
The ass though...
"Nice cushion, eh?"
How hard is it to do DIY carving on a resin casted face and resculpt to do the mouth like pic related?
>>6287643
Mostly depends on the kind of resin.
>>6287643
It might be far easier to remove a chunk of the mouth area from the resin cast instead, fill it with clay and then sculpt that.
Chapter 4 of the manga just went up.

Good chapter. Was worth the wait.
Three FAGs in the manga built a better weapon than Ao did in the anime.
>>6288207
To be fair they have a reason to actually give a damn and it's still a nubby mess.

Sadly, PG would still be too small to climb into at that scale. The pilot figures for those are only about the height of a quarter. Even Megasized would be too small. You would need something like the HY2M 1/12 gundam.

I've been a fan of the designs of a lot of the frame arm stuff, but I'm broke as fuck and can't afford to get any. Would the upcoming hexa gear governor light armor type be a good starting point to get into this stuff?
>>6288609
No one can review them because they aren't out yet. I would warn you though that its most likely a lot smaller than you're thinking it is (1/24 scale, dude is going to be like the size of a box of tic-tacs).
>>6288483
2x Exceed Binder, 2x Energy Shield, 2x Unite Sword, 2x Missile & Radome, 1x Free Style Shield, at least one Flexible Arm A and at least one Flexible Arm B. The sword is made using a handle from a Unite Sword, the guard is a thruster from a Propellant Tank Round, the blade is from a Mega Slash Edge, and I don't know what the piece that fits the blade to the guard is from.

I've now built a FAG and a MD, namely Hresv and Grapple.

What are your opinions?

>>6290625
No problem. Here's another image with the shield unfurled. You're going to use the weird double-clip joints from the Flexible Arm A to make the way the panels fold into the shield.
>>6290808
Ah, and the one thing I haven't been able to figure out is the spinal column. The creator is @fortresshum, who's got a lot of pics of various Jinrai expansion packs including some that show the structure he uses. See if you can figure out where the parts come from and tell me if you get it.
So I found out Jinrai's short ponytail peg breaks easily so I'm stuck using the long ponytail's peg. How difficult is it to get a replacement sprue especially if I'm staying in Japan for another 5 more days?
>>6290203
Red Baselard's MSRP was around 9k yen to begin with.
>>6290929
Your choice is to run to the nearest Yellow Submarine shop, or to go to one of them Kotobukiya shops with the replacement order slip you get with the manual.
The former is more forgiving but you have to scour and hunt.
Hope you can speak Japanese.
This is fucking insanity. I was trying to repose my megami device but the fucking back should piece came off and I couldn't put it back in, so I removed the head to have some more clearance.
As I removed the head piece, the entire fucking helmet assembly just disintegrated in my hands. The little black earpiece on the right side of the helmet just fucking disappeared into NOTHING. I'm unbelievable furious right now. This entire kit is fucking incomplete because of that one little shit piece, I can't believe how ridiculously flimsy this kit is that it just fucking crumbles like that. Even that hand just fell off right now.
I'm mad as hell, this shit little piece is nowhere to be found.
>>6291041

>>6291041
the hand bit is loose as fuck, makes it a bitch posing her in her unarmored arms
>>6291041
The kits are more fragile than action figures but that still sounds like tard strength hamhanding
>>6291082
-superglue small pieces that might come off and get lost, as long as it doesn't reduce customizing
-test articulation during the build. Plastic joints that get stuck should be lightly sanded to avoid breaking when reposing them.
-polycaps that are too loose can get tightened slightly by heating them with a hairdryer, and making the piece that connects to them thicker with clear acrylic/superglue
-make sure all pieces are tightly joined together, don't be afraid to use a bit of force
Other than that there's not much you can do short of customizing to add different joints. If there's really an issue with some part of the kit there's a chance Koto will release an updated version that fixes it. That's what I'm hoping will happen with the crotch joint in the first gen MDs

Do these sets get reissued? I want to get Baserlard, Gourai and Stylet but they are sold out. I don't want to pay scalper prices if I can help it/
>>6291762
They're re-issued, yes, but if I were you, I'd hold off in case they announce a Gourai Kai or Stylet Kai, since the current kits have some problems.
>>6291779
>Gourai Kai or Stylet Kai
What does that mean? Improved engineering? Different designs?
>>6291786
Updated bodies. Basically, every kit before Architect has some problems with joints and posing. If you're impatient, just get the kits you want and some Materias or Innocentias for part swapping.
>>6291041
If this isn't some sort of troll post then the one you got was probably either a knockoff or a defective batch that got diverted to third party sellers through illegal channels instead of being disposed of.
>>6291786
Nothing officially announced, but some official gourai kai artwork exists and its gun appeared breifly in the first episode of the anime.
Its likely koto will make it and use it as a chance to sort of upgrade gourai as the kits was the first and missed out on some improvements and fixes in the others.
Stylet kai/mkII is pure wishfull thinking at this time.
>>6291240

Isn't that the Overed Manipulator? Like, they're totally not out yet, man. Far out. Release date is this month, so any day now though.
What color is baselards swag charger in the manga?
Got one of those little azone kimonos for my tempesta. Seems a bit baggy and moves around when I pose her, but looks pretty good.
>>6291881
Unless you got Architect because I think she comes with them. Still waiting for HLJ to tell me they're in so I can pay for them.
>>6292026
Architect comes with two of the Impact Knuckle weapons(and the impact edge parts as well I think). But the knuckle is a closed fist with partial articulation.
The Overed Manipulator is the large open hand with individually articulated fingers. They're still in the works.
>>6288090
>bully squad in charge of scanlation
DELETE PAGE 25
>>6292061
That anon may be confused because one of the promo pics for the Overed Manipulator is of it replacing the Impact Knuckle hand on Architect. The Knuckle doesn't have a 3mm peg, though, so there must be some sort of adapter part included.
And yeah, she comes with the Edge parts too, as well as the piledriver parts that both Knuckle and Edge come with.
Damn nigs, the shoulders and the articulated toes really put these above and beyond.
The hands need to have the opening around the balljoint recut to give them a decent range of movement and thus enough expressivity though.
And I'd really like them to have more polycaps to make posing less of a hassle. Shit used to be great with Shinkis, so I'm more than willing to throw money at'em until they're on that level again.
>>6292144
I've no idea what is going on, but I like what I see.

too bad the boobs are so low
>>6292144
How's the handling? I've handled figmas and gunplas before. I'm currently on the fence about pre-ordering SOL Hornet, but there's nothing certain yet about the engineering improvements.
If I wait however, I prefer SAL shipping, and that means getting the package around late August-September, and that's a bit tricky with humidity, painting-wise.
>>6291485

>>6291881
ah i see, yeah the arms itself are not out yet. the frame is
>>6292164
>How's the handling? I've handled figmas and gunplas before.
Worse than Gunpla, their polycaps make a helluva difference, but I gather that figmas have issues with standing on their own across the board, so probably better than those. Everything's kinda stiff and creaks whenever you move it, as you'd expect it from plastic-on-plastic connections. No way for them to fix that without redoing a couple of parts though. Like the shoulders would have to become two-parts for the poly nub system used on shinkis actually to work for these.
They pose more stable than my Assault Lillies at least. I mean, those can stand, but they tend to fall over spontaneously after a while and they have a real hard time holding more creative poses as well.
I just got Altines and I love her to death but does anyone else find her armored skirt and two bigger arms a bit fiddly? She can still pull off good poses but the clear red bits seem to fall off more than I'd like. Also had to *gasp* take her lower body apart because her waist pegs weren't fully inserted.

Get her some glowsticks, then she's 10/10 ready for the rave.
>>6293829
Nice job! The blue part above her tummy flaps could have maybe used one more coat, but everything else looks really nice!
>>6293206
I'm a huge fan of impractical weapons.... But I do not understand that hulahoop chainsaw
>>6293888
It's a hulahoop unicycle motorbike chainsaw that apparently can become two chainsaw sabers.
It's pretty great.
>>6293829
maybe if you had a more saturated cyan it might work better together color wise. Right now the duller body and the bright hair feels unbalanced
>>6293888
Somebody never played Soul Calibur 3, I see.
>>6293843
yea, i already put away my airbrushing stuff before I noticed it, ill fix it when i set up again. too lazy to set up right now :b
>>6293898
the hair is duller in person, but i can agree with ya. ill take that in consideration on my next paint job
Guy I know is selling this custom, seriously tempting
>>6293888
It's just the thing you need to make your own Shul Shagana custom.
Is there a way to remove the white nub remainder?
I cut it with the nippers, removed the excess with a xacto and sand it with 800, 1000 and finally 1200.
>>6293989
desu probably paint, as long as it's smooth you'll be good
>>6293989
Heat removes stress marks, but you have to be careful not to warp anything.
>>6293993
That's what i was thinking.
>>6293995
I'm not good enough to use heat. I'll probably fuck it up.
>>6293998
Use a fingernail to rub the mark out
Is Baselard the only model with the hair molded to have those sharp and stiff peaks for the hair clumps?
For anyone curious, the bonus hair piece of Baselard comes molded in a cheapo-plastic-pink color, like some of them cheapo bootleg Chinese toys.
You could also say it's "highlighter pink" or some kind of really intense magenta in person.
The way I see it, I have to repaint it to a less intense color like a strawberry or pastel pink or push the color closer to fuschia.
>>6293829
>>6293915
Color combination is straight out of 1995-1998 anime, seriously.
>>6293989
You could try the methods in this video but it releases a lot of toxic fumes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpPrvSGf6o4
>>6294015
Looks like i could try this.
Thanks.
>>6294006
To me Baselard's bonus hair looks like strawberry milk
>>6294031
From the photos, you mean?
I have the piece itself. It's far more intense color.
>>6294018
You could try this welding and repair technique one in the time skip, but again toxic fumes.

>>6293919
That head looks gigantic.
>>6293496
That, and Architect's shadow duplication trick in the opening is an excellent reason to ship them, if you ask me.
But yeah, to be perfectly honest, I thought it was the MSG Buster Sword.
>>6294049
Nah, from the piece itself. Maybe yours was just a hiccup in the mold color?
>Preordered Hres ater back in february
>only now do I realize that I think it's cooler for the weapons to be both ranged and melee like the standard hres has it
At least I didn't order it from one of the places that ban you for cancelling, but it still feels dumb.
>>6294081
>not getting both
>>6293888
The anime has her using it as a huge chakram, a hula-hoop, then breaking it in two to use as a pair of Shotels.
It's certainly impractical, but it's really cool in action. The fact that she pitches it with Captain America-like accuracy doesn't hurt.
>>6294088
I might end up doing that in the end, but not now.
>>6294094
I really feel compelled to buy some of these M.S.G. weapons and then cut them out with with a pair of Kotobuki Nipper for maximum reduced sprue mess.
>>6294074
I guess so, but it doesn't matter all that much now. I'm thinking of puttying up the tab ports and magnetizing them, so I can soften up the colors.
Plus articulating the bunny antennae at the front headpiece.
ie, place magnets on the inside part of the head and hope the magnetism is strong enough to not just reach the other side but hold the parts down?
Should I do double magnets for the headpiece to head connections on front and back of the head, or simply make one side magnet and the connecting headpiece the metal plate. Or the opposite?
Plan later on is to be able to mix and match Hres and Stylet parts. Futureproofing, you know?

>tfw the anime is unabashed shilling
>it actually works
>>6294110
The product is attractive and fun to have, and the honesty is refreshing.
Having the whole set (save for Inocentia, who is in the mail) is actually really great.
It makes me want to get toys for my toys.
>>6293955
I think that was sarcasm, bro.
...at least, I hope it was sarcasm.
>>6294119
God no, that's a slippery slope right there, I've got 4 FAGs and I've easily spent as much on MSG parts for customizing
>tfw not even done building and painting my customs
>Start thinking up designs for yet another custom, requiring MSG parts I don't have.
Help, I need to get off this wild ride
>>6294141
Now tempted to make a skeletal armor kit for FAG/MD for the obligatory Mr Bones joke
>>6294110
For me, the anime itself isn't very convincing.
The threads on the other hand...
(although you could say I wouldn't know about FAGs without the anime, so there's that)
Some opinion sourcing.
I finally got started on my gigantic arms and thought "hey, I've got this brown Gundam marker. That will look great on the olive drab of GA"
But,. Im not so sure im liking it.
Should I persist or suck it up and burn out my grey or black marker.
>>6294141
>>6294156
The ride never ends
>>6294184
I don't like the anime that much but i can't miss Stylet being bullied.
>>6294205
I'd say do a few tests with black for the narrow panel lines and going with the brown in recessed corners. I think the brown can work to give it a used look with dirt/grime in the corners
what FAG will love their masuta the most
>>6294205
It looks like rust, might be useful if you want to weather your kit
>>6293888
It was a fairly famous custom from way back when fags were just starting to come out.
it works! oh sweet hallelujah.
one of the more complex molds I've put together.
so the mold has some special characteristics to work.
baby powder, syringe injected, initially the top 2 ports are sealed and the back pegs and slot have one way sealed valves to allow resin to pass, then once they release resin, I unblock the top ports and allow the top to fill resulting in a perfect cast.
this has got to be one of the most complex mold, more than with shinkies.
>>6294365
I'm really happy with the results tho.
>>6294228
Gourai
>>6294402
that's with rubber bands. I'm injecting the resin with quite a bit of pressure to drive the resin into the back slots.
thinking of inserting metal wires into the mold before casting to further strengthen them. I'll give it a try tomorrow.
>>6294365
>>6294370
Are you the same recaster that comes back every so often to dispense advice? I found this blogpost about hollow casting and I thought it could simplify your problems about fine details in casts.
https://davidneat.wordpress.com/tag/how-to-make-hollow-casts-in-resin/
On tsuki-board I saw a recaster that was using silicone _putty_ for the molds instead of silicone rubber. That person wasn't using the resin casts as-is (with pigments etc) but sanded, puttied, primed and painted though.
If I use silicone rubber for casting custom hair pieces, how's the Oomoo 25? (25 on Shore A hardness scale)
It _seems_ alright to use silicone putty for a small scale project, I'm not completely willing to dive into resin casting since the timesink not only looks expensive but seems like an entire hobby in itself?
>>6294205
>brown Gundam marker
>bare plastic
The lacquer solvent in the marker chemical burned into the plastic, you ain't getting out that paint.
>>6294435
thanks for the suggestion.
silicone putty is really horrible. I highly recommend against purchasing it for anything ever. whatever you might use silicone putty for, can be done better with oyumaru. The oyumaru flows much better therefore fills small details better. it's also reusable.
oomoo 25 would work well for custom hair pieces. there's more flex in the mold so you can extract hair pieces more easily, but just be very careful since 25 is more prone to tears. best to coat the inside with baby powder or some releasing agent.
if you just want to give casting a try, you can do so with oyumaru and the white alumilite resin or any white type of resin so you can dye your pieces more easily. clear resin is nice too, but the amount of dye you need to make clear resin opaque results in soft casts.
>>6294532
to add, I'm currently using oomoo 30, but it's pretty soft and weak. small pieces can get torn off when demolding, so I embed string in my molds. if a piece gets torn, the string holds it in place and I just glue the pieces together with a bit of leftover oomoo. this method lets me repair molds pretty easily since these pieces are so small I can't just stick the originals back into the mold due to air trapping.
Reminder to punish your fags when they screw up

>>6294685
She'd love mastah, but only secretly because she doesn't want to show weakness. She has to maintain an air of hardline patriotism. You might be a white devil/black devil/member of one of the inferior Asian races, but you're still mastah, and she'll always love you even if she doesn't say it.

>>6294439
Nah,. But I. Going over top of it with a grey marker and it's covering pretty ok.

DELET
The huge seam on materia forearms is a real bitch. Trying to fill it with putty and sand back but I'm worried about sanding the entire arm away to nothing at this rate.
>>6295168
Fill it with putty
let the putty dry
draw over the seam with a black marker
sand away until the marker's pigment's gone
cognratulations, you sanded just enough do do the trick.
