Finished snapping and a bit of painting on my innocentia today, thought I'd do some halfassed commentary.

Articulation: Materia/Jinrai hips. New shoulders pull out so she can cross her arms in front of her chest, new engineering inside. Can't quite gunbuster pose, her tits get in the way and I cant be bothered to take them off to see if that fixes it. I think she has the same style of ankles as baselard, but both sets of feet have toe joints.

Misc: Her shoe feet have seams down the middle of the shoe that I'll probably have to glue. The fit difference on the black and bare legs is just enough that I can't put the shoed feet on the fleshy legs without them falling out. A coat of future would probably fix it. No stand or weapons is kinda lame, luckily I have a big pile of random equipment laying around. Color separation is great, and she comes with spare wrist pieces for both colors of arm.

She's also a smug little shit for someone without any pants, I love her.

The full one does, but not the half one that comes with Jinrai Indigo.

Incidentally, the knives only come with Indigo. Regular Jinrai instead includes the Boomerang Scythe set and a bunch of extra parts meant to go with it. Indigo still comes with the extra parts, just like she comes with the original's long ponytail in addition to her new short one, so you can get your own Boomerang Scythe set and combine it with Indigo to have everything the original Jinrai had and more.

What's your preferred top coat type? It seems pretty unanimous that matte works best for skin parts, but what about armor and their skirts and stuff? I sprayed a gun I painted with matte but I didn't like how it turned out. Thinking that I should have used semi gloss instead, and now I'm wondering if other armor/weapons/innerwear wouldn't also look better with semi gloss. What do you guys use?

Matte, but it's best to avoid metallics with matte coat.

With 32mm miniature painting, I've met people that swear by a matte coat, followed by a gloss or semi-gloss coat.
Never tried it myself, but the guys I heard that from won a lot more painting competitions than I did.

I compared Baselard and Materia faceplates from the front and side, and found out that Baselard is very much to the Materia face, but with about a quarter or half-milimeter wider on the sides.

How narrow/pointed is the Gourai/Stylet faceplate by comparison?

Does anyone with multiple models go and do a comparison?

In my experience swapping the face-plates, Baselard's face is the only one that is slightly wider. All of the others are based on the gourai/Materia model.

Just how prone to breakage are the Materia/Baselard wrist joints? Is there a way to prevent this by loosening an area in some way? Send help.

I tried looking for replacement ball joints, but the Hobby Base ball joint set starts at 6mm diameter at the smallest, whereas the default wrist joints for the kits are 4ish mm diameter and sit within the size of the wrist sockets.

Having to magnetize the wrists sounds scary? It means that I have to put my stuff away from my workdesk (no electronics near the magnets)?

these days you have little to worry about. Most modern stuff that is vulnerable to magnets won't be harmed by household magents, you need something beefy. And secondly, a lot of tech these days are not vulnerable at all, ipods, tablets, etc.

Magnets mess with magnetic fields, so only stuff that utilizes magnetization will be affected by a sufficienbtly strong magnet.

How thick should a panel line marker be for FAGs? 0.1, 0.3, 0.5? Don't have access to gundam markers here and importing is a huge pain.

Either make a mask or clean up the overpaint. Thinner and a Q tip is the recommended method but I think I painted carefully and scratched what extra paint there was away with a hobby knife.

get the smallest tip Sakura Micro pen you can as a decent alternative to Gundam Markers. Don't use actual markers, most won't do much good either rub away way too easily or not look good. Gundam Markers are filled with actual modeling paint, although I think the panel line pens use some kind of ink rather then paint. Could be mistaken. If you are not painting your kit and doing an ootb build, then mechanical pencils are a possible substitute I hear. No personal experience with how good that looks so don't quote me on that.

I often have decent if not better results just making a panel line wash. You want your paint thinned more then you would normally paint, surface must be bare or very glossy for this to work. You want to apply it directly into the panel lines using a toothpicks or suitably tiny tipped brush. If the substance is properly thinned it will strecth out along the panel line itself without you needing to trace along. Just dab in spots along the way and clean up the excess. Better results could be had using some combination of retarder and accelerant forget the exact details for that. I use Vallejo and a nifty home made mixture that can be added to take the place of those things.

Actually, I think those two have the lowest risk of joint break, since most of them tend to be too loose.

The newer models used a more sturdy type of plastic called ABS, which makes the joints more stiff (in a good way.)

First timer here. When using sandpaper, how important is precision? I don't want to sand anything other than nubs that stick out, not do I want to use too much force.

Not quite sure what you mean by precision, but if you can at all try to use your nippers to get that nub down first. That part isn't very obvious to begin with, so if there's some marks left try to take a finer grit sandpaper to it. I know the roughest I ever go is 400, and that's for really bearing down on thigh seam lines.

Having built two FAGs, I found that with some careful knife work, I haven't had to go with anything more aggressive than 1000 grit. most things I can finish with 2000 grit and some polishing with a cotton cloth unless I want the plastic to have a glossy finish when done

Now I know why I felt something was wonky about the Materia head. It wasn't the proportions, it's that the hair sits so high compared to the faceplate that the head is elongated much more than the others.

Any suggestions I can do to make the rest of the hair pieces sit lower and be more proportional like the other models?

I suggest you try posing her, anon. One of the FAG's strong points is their high posibilty, owing to their small limbs and removable equipment. You could find awesomes poses from gundam artbox and so on.

Those are determined by the three CSC crystals in the chest, chosen and inserted by the user before booting up a shinki for the first time. The AI is linked to the CSC unit too so removing any of them is basically killing that personality.

Man if this was any other old nostalgic game I would probably start going into a rant about how the company only cares about pandering to the masses with some stupid game franchise that is just like every other AAA game in some way. But damn it, I am still surprised Souls games are popular with mainstream.

Also there is tons of rumors that they are working on a new Armored Core. They officialy stated 3 new games in the works, a new IP, a souls type game, and a return to an old franchise. Really hope they can design it in a way thaty brings mech games back to the mainstream.

How feasible would it be to make FAGs that employ an Amiibo/Skylandes-style system that senses certain armor components and armaments and has you duke it out online with other kit-owners? Not sure how the tech works but would all chips/whatever need to be at the base of the figure or could they be attached to armor and weapons and it just had to be held above the scanning sensors?
