No model train general? Let's try to get one started. Post your W.I.Ps, current layouts, show off your new piece, or ask questions. G, O, HO, N, Z, T, as long as it's related to model trains, it's welcome here!

Do toy trains count?
>>6268807
As in Thomas the tank engine and stuff like that? I'm not so sure. I was thinking more of the diesel and steam engines running on realistic layouts, but if it's interesting, then why not?
>>6268793
>>6268793
MY grandpa loved train models, used to help set it up and everything.
>>6269057
>stomp and kick the trains
>but don't break them
>>6269057
I am legitimately disgusted by this.
Does anyone here have bachmann Oliver yet? What's it like?
>>6268862
Not the poster but I have some killer die cast TtT stuff from when I was younger, I wish I could have gotten some track sets but those are long gone I believe
>>6270373
That depends on if they're their own scale or use a current scale. For example if they're HO scale you could find some flex track which has a great price per foot ratio
>>6270373
ERTL?

How is this /toy/ related?
>>6270574
>model train
>no articulation
>>6270574
The same reason Hot Wheels are /toy/ related.
>>6268793
My dad is big into N scale trains, although he's had a hard time getting enough space for a layout.
I've been looking at using some to make a kind of military hangar diorama for my Frame Arms kits, which look like they're on about the right scale. Anyone have any experience with mixing gunpla and trains?
>>6273965
That's cool. What train is that?
>tfw you want to get into model trains but you don't have the space or money to right now
Are there any computer based stuff I could do to sooth my train autism? I just want to set up rails and run trains around.

Okayama Electric Tramway Type 9200 MOMO
>>6274081
I know that feel bro, although i managed to buy a locomotive with one caboose,i still need the railways....
I have some trains, ill post them in a couple of hours
>>6274081
there's a bunch of train simulators on steam if you're looking into those kinds of things
i personally have no experience with most of them but i know for some of them the modding communities are active
>>6268793
what is you guys opinion on trackmaster?
>>6274776
Shell of its former self, plarail is still alright
>>6274122
Awesome, thank you!
>>6274776
First Trackmaster was better than Plarail in some areas. Can't say the same about Trackmaster Revolution.
>>6274081
Train Simulator
Any of you guys ever have these?
>>6275379
Yes.
>>6275374
I tried using that, but it honestly gets more expensive if you aren't satisfied with more than a few trains and a couple routes. The Canadian mountain pass route is honestly the best one.
>>6274776
2.0 is shit.
Trackmaster in general pre-2.0 was actually kinda nice, the engines were cool looking and the tracks still felt nice.
>>6273594
>Anyone have any experience with mixing gunpla and trains?
>>6277128
Is that your picture? It looks great.
>>6277128
That's the kind of scaling I want, yeah. I was thinking I could take a bunch of the Bandai System Bases and make a kind of hangar diorama out of having a bunch of them in a row with trains delivering supplies.
I love my Funrise trains
>tfw been using Micro Mark (they have 3D printers now!) for years for tons of projects that don't involve trains, toys, or landscapes (fishing lures, tooling, mostly DIY stuff)
>tfw finding scenicexpress.com today
Fug, this shit looks so cool. My inner god mode wants to buy up a few grand worth of stuff and make all sorts of cool things. Too bad I'm mostly broke and only shitpost in my spare time.

See the "imitation crab meat" part? That's a meme from >>>/diy/ from a few years ago. Someone had something like 1/4th of a ton of imitation crab meat they needed something to do with and was asking /diy/ for help. Pretty good thread really.
Thus, that image is just a fake for the most part.

maybe you guys can help me out!
I'm trying to buy my gf a model car for her upcoming birthday. It needs to be either a 1976 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham with a pop up trailer/camper behind it. This is Jim Lahey's vehicle in Trailer Park Boys. Or I need to get a 1971 Dodge Sportsman B-300 Four Star. This is also known as "the Dirty Burger" in the show and some other characters use it.
We watched the show for the first time together and we both loved it. We also have attended this annual bluegrass festival a few times and camped together. We will have to say goodbye to each other before too long, and I want to give her this gift as something like "Remember our camping fun, and you're my trailer park girl" romantic stuff. If anyone could at least link me some nice model car sites that would be appreciated!!!
>>6279862
Sorry. I tried, but I couldn't find anything you were looking for.
>>6280485
thanks for trying at least :c
I always wanted to make a small table set with an engine that looked like toby going through a short forest branchline. Anyone know a good scale and train to do this?
>>6281327
Why not just get the Toby HO model?
>>6269995
Looks pretty good overall, but the eyes get wonky and he really doesn't have much pull.
I need your help guys, anyone recognise this train set? I bought it around 2004 and it does not have a brand or logo
Choo choo
>>6281721
What scale is it?
>>6282011
I think its G scale
do people even still play with trains? im assuming its just old people with collections and people who are on the spectrum right?

>>6283795
This is an HO mehano locomitve....i think its not G scale
>>6279862
Hey annon check this out
http://scaledworld.net/happy-camper
Might be a bit expensive as this is a model kit not a model car
>>6283939
That g scale you have is a no named brand toy. The kind they recolor red and white for Christmas and sell at home depot.
This video just happens to be the first thing I found with trains like that.

>>6268793
Crappy picture but 200 Series Tohoku Shinkansen. Even in N scale it's still over 9 feet long with all 16 cars.

Small shrine I made with a Sankei paper kit and some Greenmax fence.
>>6283933
Well, it isn't G-scale.
>>6284156
is this your collection?
>>6284825
To be honest I was going to 70-80s era B&O and Chessie in N but prices for North American prototypes are absurdly high. I can buy a Kato or Tomix locomotive for $50 and it runs just as well as a $150 Intermountain locomotive and looks just as good. For $150 (or less) I can get an entire 6 car set. Also fully aware of the suckiness of Japan, they have to build wiggle room into their urban lines because of the regularity of people deciding the front end of a local express is the best way to go out.
>>6274793
Plarail Advance when?
Just bought one of these on ebay for 120 euros.
>Model: BB 9200 (I guess)
>Make: Marklin
>Scale: HO
It's a gift for grandpa who worked on them. The model won't be displayed, not used.
Did I do good ?
>>6287451
I'm not an expert on Marklin but they were pretty pricy to begin with and the box looks to be in pretty good shape and the locomotive in just as good shape, I'd say it was worthwhile especially of it's a gift for someone and it makes them happy (that part goes whether it was expensive or cost nothing).
Bumping for trains.
>>6287451
>The model won't be displayed, not used.
What did he mean by this?
>>6281327
carendt.com for layout ideas.
>>6283933
HO is "half O", you maybe have an O scale engine.
>>6284477
That catenary installation, i like it.
may i ask how big is the layout?
>>6287451
Marklin from the golden age (70's-80's) with box: Good brand, awesome nostalgia potential.
Is a good buy, a bit on the expensive side if you live in europe, good price for overseas.
Hamo model for continuous current, a pily that wont be used.
Gramp is french?.
>>6268793
I would love to start such a comfy hobby, unfortunately I would not know where to start. I don't really have the space either. I can just imagine relaxing in a recliner chair next to the fire watching the train world go round.
>>6293181
>>6287451
I bought it. Seems to be in good shape knowing that that thing is 54 years old.
Yeah I just made a mistake while typing.
>>6293344
It's on the heavy side though. I think it weights at least 500gr.
>>6293214
The start point is always the same, a starter set, has all needed to start running a train and sometimes you can find deals on old packages.
Depending on where you live europe/asia/murrica you will have different brands available.
Saw these in a gif, once, and I finally found out where they're from.
Is it possible to set up a train to go back and forth across a single line rather than in a circle? I was thinking I'd like to do a display on a hanging shelf that would just run back and forth without needing as much horizontal space as you need for a circle, but I don't know if there's a way to automate that.
>>6300924
You probably could probably program it with DCC.
Has anyone tried to put an HO train into an N scale base so it can run on a N track?
>>6301062
That's HO scale narrow gauge.
>>6300994
Interesting. You wouldn't happen to have a guide?
I'd also like to be able to set up the track with multiple stacked layers, but I don't know how feasible that is or how you'd turn the train around in a small space.
>>6301062
Yes, this is known as HOn30. It stands for HO scale, narrow gauge, prototypical track gauge of 30 inches.
>>6301177
You could do switchbacks if turning the train around isn't essential.
>>6300924

>>6300849
Japan of course, this kind of toys are way common there than in the west.
>>6307804
Here's the gif.
>>6275379
Holy shit yes. I haven't seen those in years.
>>6268793
Hi. Gundam fag here.
Does anyone knows were I can find trains in S scale (1/64)? I want to make a diorama for a Perfect Strike (1/60), but look like these scale is not so easy to find.
Please...
>>6311919
American Flyer is the only brand I know that makes S-gauge.
>>6312238
>American Flyer
Thanks so much, m8.
>>6277128
>>6277995
>>6278031
I was talking to an old guy from airplanes (around 50 years old, build only airplane stuff) about giant robots and shit. He said: "You can put a robot in any diorama because it's a robot, scale does not matter".
MFW... pic related.
>>6313147
Thanks for the links. I'll probably switch to cars, because it's really hard to find trains in this scale. On the other hand, there are tons of matchbox around.

Question for model train general. I want to build some dioramas for my Godzilla figs. Say Godzilla is around 100 meters tall and the figures are around 6 inches. What's a good scale to work with?
>>6315433
use 1:150, it's common in Japan and you can get lot's of authentic Japanese buildings and trains in this scale.
http://www.kaijuaddicts.com/building-city-environments-x-plus-vinyls-n-scale-buildings/
many Japanese Godzilla figures and other monsters are already in scale with his
>>6316014
Thanks!
6 inch = 15cm might be a bit small for n-scale
figure is closer to 1:500 or 1:600
Closest model railroad scale is T-scale. Even smaller then Z and very rare.
only source I know is
https://www.tgauge.com/
you might find ships in matching scales.
e.g.

maybe for a water/beach scene
