This is why I tend to prioritize the older stuff more than the new. I know I would still find them for retail or less years from now in conventions and shit while the Vintage stuff will just gradually go up since most of the quality are there.

Yet right now CW stuff just from a year or two ago is blowing up in price.

The photographers don't have to care but I'm sure Hasbro's PR department should. The photographer's job is just to take clear pictures, it's whoever brings these figures to the photographer that's supposed to make these figures look good. Whoever does that really sucks at their job, though it's most likely some unpaid intern or something.

Are they so big and stable shit like this doesn't mean anything? It doesn't matter for the average 95% of people buying these as they see them in stores? No clue for the actual numbers but I imagine the ones who look at the shitty online promo shots are the minority, and they likely know how to google better pics anyways.

Not exactly, he still need to bond with someone for that to work. And honestly, it doesn't seem all that incredible when Laser Prime, and Nautica have ridiculously good abilities, while normal Rodimus probably had really good powers with whoever the hell he was bonded with since he won the race.

Too bad he couldn't pass it to someone useless, like Fastlane.

Combined with how Magnus Prime is a domestic release of Super Ginrai which is the major change from the leaks, I wouldn't be surprised if there was shifting around from the initial plans for what the contents of each box set was. Generally I don't understand why they didn't go for "split faction, shared theme like racing guys/military vehicles/marine specialists". Hell, maybe even print the box so that it works as a background.

Considering Iron Apex doesn't exist, and Quickswitch got stuck with Six Shot's helmet, I think some budget allocated towards the box sets got shuffled away from them late in the game.
>>
>>6256683
I forgot how ugly Animated was.
>>
>>6256800
The question is "to what?"
>>
>>6256800
Everything pointed that Magnus Prime was going to be TR Optimus repaint, until he wasn't. Considering they changed Magnus into Ginrai, keeping Iron Apex would have been stupid since they'll probably bring Godbomber over in another boxset.
>>
>>6256812
>they'll probably bring Godbomber over in another boxset.

I can see that happening.
>>
>>6256806
For more toys that share parts with other figures? Black Shadow having most of the jet portion altered so it actually looks like the character instead of being an overlord repaint?
>>
>>6256812
So Ginrai and Powermaster Optimus Prime have enough changes to them that the same mold for a power up wouldn't work?
>>
>>6256815
>>
>>6256815
A part of me will be disappointed Magnus Prime wasn't a TR Optimus painted in Delta Magnus colors. Hell, I'd be fine if it was the Takara painted in those colors as well.

Guess I'll never own the Hasbro version of that mold with better colors and plastic parts painted in the right colors.
>>
>>6256800
It's probably because Apex Armor turned out to a leader sized toy. The rumors for the boxset said he was going to be a deluxe. Likely that was what Hasbro thought too.

>>6256812
Magnus Prime was actually a UM/PMOP remold Everyone just thought Powered Convoy instead of Ginrai.
>>
>>6256804
And yet they're still better toys compared to the current lines today.
>>
>>6256760
>Managed to snag a Broadside preorder on BBTS before they unceremoniously removed it.

I got one too. He's not on the website any more but he's still in my order history.

Does anybody know why it was taken down?
>>
>>6256820
>Magnus Prime was actually a UM/PMOP remold Everyone just thought Powered Convoy instead of Ginrai.

Didn't some leak imply it would use the Delta Magnus colors? In any case, it definitely got changed to Ginrai later, since we knew of the box set way before Takara even announced Ginrai and I don't believe any remolding was implied, just new colors.
>>
>>6256294
Looking at that image, I see no reason why the legs can't lay flat in jet mode
>>
>>6256826
Maybe it went up before it was meant to? You;ll just have to wait and see if they ship it now or way later.

I remember ordering something from Entertainment Earth one time, and had to wait a month for delivery since the item went up by accident and I already paid for it.

I just recently picked up a Voyager Optimus and was really impressed by how well made and FUN he is. I must've transformed him 20 something times the first day I had him. It's such a simple but fun transformation and I absolutely love the matte finish on him. His arm articulation is superb too. I actually managed to get him to two-hand his axe.

I never had any of the Animated toys while it was airing but after messing with Prime, I definitely want to collect more of them. It makes me a little sad that Hasbro will never make figures this good again. All these paint apps, the high quality plastic, the heavy feel, and matte finish won't ever happen again.

That would be interesting.
I wonder if applying that kind of strangeness would work for vehicles. I know a lot of "Cybertronian Vehicle" formers are hated because they feel like the robot mode arranged differently instead of a proper altmode, but would making them have defined roles like having the shape of a fighter jet with massive air intakes but the texture is like coral, the machine guns look more like a weird mouth than anything and multiple large lens that look like they might be sensory organs.

I'm biased so I'd say the Voyager Prime. I love the faceplate gimmick and he sorta has his trailer in truck mode. The axe may not look 100% show accurate but Hasbro tried their best. The blades are sculpted on there but they could use some paint. You can even place the water cannon on the axe to simulate the rocket nozzle from the show. But if you want actual firepower there's the Wing Blade release of him.

I'm sure the most autistic collectors will find some way to get one unopened. But honestly, this isn't a big deal, it's expected to happen, and unless they do something like glue the plug in or just tear the toy from the packaging and send it's accessories flying and shove it hamhandedly back in the box, it's not likely to be a problem.

I always just figured Pretender vehicle modes are what regular vehicle modes look like on Cybertron. They really dont NEED to be "robots in disguise" on Cybertron. I mean if you see a car on Cybertron, it's a pretty safe bet that it's going to be a robot. Transport and combat would be the only reasons youd need a vehicle mode for on Cybertron

Function over form. If it does the job required, it's fine

i'm so fucking autistic, i think about this at least a few times a week.

the 'robots in disguise' tagline is the biggest misnomer in any franchise.

it only works for the first few episodes or installments of whatever continuity we're on:

start out, people can't know there's robots, so they hide as cars, BUT HOLY SHIT THEY'RE AT WAR AND NOW EVERYONE HAS SEEN GIANT ROBOTS DISGUISES ARE USELESS

did anyone ever really buy the idea that soundwave's original alt mod to hide from others was a fucking lamp post or whatever

come on
>>

It still works in IDW to a point. Now though Earth's got a lot of alien shit floating around and more tech to identify that kind of shit.

Loose parts on ebay is your only hope, or put up some buy offers on trading forums.

I don't think any 3P upgrade kits give complete replacements to the chest, gun or forearms. You still need the stock parts.

For something aimed at kid, this guy is actually pretty good. In a way a this is the final solution between the old solid but now expensive WFC Soundwave/Prime soundwave mold and the cheapness of the RID line.

The only issues I have are there is no place for the arm to clip into the shoulder pad and the car mode very hollow. And why no extra gun? This is shockwave right?

Another theory is that they may have "accidentally" let it slip to see if it was worth bothering to keep ordering TransFormers. Hasbro jerking us around with preorders is a double fuck because the people _after_ the preorder rush are poor as fuck these days. That forces you to either hang onto stock forever or take losses just to get rid of it.

As much as people hate shockwave's purple its a limitation in the plastic, if he were painted he would be perfect but then you'd have to be delicate as fuck, take pic related.

I'm not sure why people keep parroting this. There are plenty of MPs with full-body paint jobs. It USED to be the standard. Somehow, everyone has been brainwashed into thinking "PAINT=SCRATCH! PAINT BAD!!!" All they have to do is use a good quality paint and clear coat and we don't have to worry about chipping or scratching. I've transformed and played with my MPs with paint hundreds of times, and any chipping or scratching is so minor that it's hardly worth mentioning, especially given how much better the rest of the toy looks as a result.

Stat cards have never and will never make sense, because they don't define exactly how much each stat point is "worth", and they don't bother to actually make any sort of logical sense with assigning characters stats.

tl;dr This isn't D&D, the stat system has no weighting to it, it's just random nonsense. I wish it was a detailed, well tracked and maintained system, but given Hasbro literally has no reason to do so, it'll probably never happen unless they pull one of their Magic: The Gathering or D&D devs over and tells them to "Fix this shit, make it make sense, and stat up every obscure bot since G1 appropriately".

I knew this was going to end up happening;a Megatron that's super show accurate, eve with the unflattering proportions, and the subsequent fandom being split in what to make of it. G1 cartoon Megatron just isn't a cool design.
At any rate, I like it a lot, though. I continue to be amazed by the levels of fiction accuracy Takara is making between this and BW MPs and now movie MPs. Its just tricky adjusting after so many years of toys being idealized versions. I like the 3P reinterpretations of these, like Despotron, Quakeblast, and Beast Gorira. But Takara feels like they're doing something that "needed" to be done first.

Speaking of which, here's another take on the cinemacon footage:

The Opening
>The first scene was the actual opening of the movie. It starts with the familiar Paramount logo and then giant fireballs launching over it. What ensues is a tremendous battle of medieval warriors battling it out. We quickly learn that King Arthur's forces were being overwhelmed and Merlin has gone for help. Interestingly parts of King Arthur's armor seemed to move and glow, suggesting the Knights of the Round Table had armor enhanced with Cybertronian technology. We are quickly introduced to Merlin (in a rather comical fashion) before seeing him arrive at what appears to be a Cybertronian ship that crashed ages ago.

>Cut to Merlin riding back to the battle, this time with Dragonstorm! This scene was a powerful and visceral way to begin the movie. The battle scene involved hundreds of actors and stuntmen filming over three days and all the hard work shows on screen. It was also fascinating to see that Transformers and humans worked together in the distant past. I am also glad this scene did not repeat the live action movie trope of having Optimus Prime do a voice over. It felt more fresh and new that way.

The Junkyard
>At a junkyard Cade is seen chastising Grimlock as Izabella and Sqweeks watch amused. Grimlock apparently loves chewing on cars (or eating them). Cade tells him to spit it out and eventually he does, and looks a bit sick in the process. Cade talks to him like a child, telling him to think about what he has done. There is also a quick line Cade says about being "guests" at the junkyard.

>Though a good portion of this sequence has already appeared in trailers it was nice to see it put together as a complete sequence instead of just a tiny clip. For some fans seeing Grimlock going from the fierce warrior in "Age of Extinction" to having a "comedy scene" may seem odd, but in an unexpected way this parallels what happened with Generation One Grimlock. In the TV show he was often portrayed as a rebellious, powerful warrior. Then later in the 1986 film the writers added a comedic element to the character, down to him asking Kup to tell him stories like a child. So long as they keep his fierceness and ability to battle I have no problem with it.

Assault
>In this sequence we see the TRF gearing up to capture a target. From all appearances, their target is Cade! Among those leading this group is Lennox. Next we see a dramatic sequence where military vehicles drive along a highway only to be attacked by Grimlock and Slug! The Dinobots make quick work of the vehicles, tossing them into the air and knocking them aside. It was a really dramatic sequence and reminded everyone that the Dinobots represent incredible power. I will also say for such a dramatic sequence the camera was surprisingly still compared to previous films. There is one great shot of Slug from roughly a human's level that was amazing to behold and will look amazing on an IMAX screen.

Cogman
>What appears to be a bowling alley, Cade meets Cogman. This human sized Transformer is not part of Bumblebee's group but rather has been sent to bring Cade to...someone. When Crosshairs tries to step in to help Cade, Cogman manages to beat the shit out of him. He may be human sized, but he seems just as powerful as the larger Autobots. He then tells Cade that he has a destiny and that he must leave his friends to protect them. In a key scene, he hands Cade a metal symbol like the ones on the armor King Arthur and the Knights were wearing in the opening sequence. It moves up Cade's arm and Cogman tells him it will not leave him. What this means remains to be seen. Cade realizes that Cogman is right and tells Izabella that she will be taken care of because she is family (this scene is in the trailer). Cogman then takes Cade for a ride in an old style bomber plane, complete with propellers and silver chrome exterior.

Sir Edmound Burton
>At a gigantic castle we meet Sir Edmound Burton (played by Anthony Hopkins) is walking his dog (played by Freya the world's "loneliest" dog). Cogman, Bumblebee and Cade walk towards the castle when a seemingly inactive World War One tank fires a blast at them. Burton tells the tank to hold off and it transforms! While the character is not named, he looks like a chunky Transformer wearing a military hat with a monocle on one eye! This is a very "retro" design, like something that you would see in an alt-history Transformers story. Burton explains the tank is old and still thinks its in World War One but he calms down. Soon a sports car comes roaring down the path transforming and ejecting a woman. The robot is Hot Rod who looks apologetic about ejecting his passenger.

>Later, inside the castle it is revealed the woman brought to the castle by Hot Rod is Viviane Wembly (played by Laura Haddock). She and Sir Burton have history (I think she is his daughter but the different last names are throwing me off). Cade and Viviane do not get along at first, leading to Cogman attacking Cade to "protect" her. Sir Burton stops him and then begins to tell a story. The story incorporates some of Anthony Hopkins' narration from an earlier trailer.

>Flashing back again to the time of King Arthur, we learn that the Knights of the Round Table were each backed up by a Cybertronian Knight. Dramatic images play of the human and Cybertronian Knights joining swords in a circle. Sir Burton tells us they were a force of good and justice even back then. The Cybertronian Knights all looked like stylized medieval knights, with armor that was reminiscent of the way the Dinobots looked in the last movie in robot form, but with more smooth parts and less jagged points.

Underwater
>Cade and Vivian are in what appears to be an old World War Two submarine. They are being followed by two modern submersibles with Lennox and his crew. The subs are all approaching a gigantic Cybertronian structure underwater. Cade and Vivian are able to get in through a giant hatch, but it closes behind them causing Lennox and crew to have to find a different way in. This scene was quick but gave a good sense of the scope of the visuals and story. Also, this scene gave us a quick peek at a control room where General Morshower was on hand to give orders!
>>
>>6258316
Battleground
>In what looks like it could be a part of the final battle sequence in the movie, a group of TRF Ospreys crash land near giant chunks of land crashing into what look like parts of Cybertron. The two appear to be merging and there is definitely a sense of tension throughout the scene. The scene also shows the Autobots on their own vehicles flying into the scene alongside Dragonstorm! The scene had a lot of quick cuts so the exact story context was not quite there, but it should prove interesting seeing how all these warriors come together for this final battle.

>Once the lights came up, Bay actually asked us all for our feedback on what we had just seen. Apparently the clips we saw were a reel put together for theater companies to see and he wanted to represent the film as best as he could given footage that is available now. He took the feedback well and confessed that much of what we were saying reflected his own thoughts. One non-spoiler suggestion was to include more moments with the Decepticons in the reel (in contrast, there was plenty of Autobot representation). When asked about how long he has to finish the film, Bay told us that movies have been known to come as close to two weeks before the release day of a film. He told us "Age of Extinction" came very close to its deadline due in part to the complexity of some of the special effects.

>>
>>6258413
Nah, this was the way things were heading for awhile
First off, it took them awhile to come to terms with the autobots in the first movie
In the second movie they were mostly on board
But the third one illustrated that simply being an autobot wasn't defaulting to "safe transformer"
By the time the fourth movie had rolled around, the government had been rounding up various transformers and killing them, and now
the fifth movie deals with unaffiliated transformers arriving. You must also remember, Optimus is gone. He was their key diplomat. Crosshairs and Drift would just as well squish a fleshy as not, it's only bumblebee that really cares for them, and he can't exactly effectively communicate.
The military doesn't pick sides. It does it's job. They might be more likely to spare a life of an autobot, but their job is still to bring them in.
Not to mention, the return of lennox means it's been YEARS since he was last seen. We don't know what's happened.
Oh, and megatron and his minions ARE actively waging war on the humans.

And let's not forget that a cybertronian WMD was nearly set off in the last movie.

>>And let's not forget that a cybertronian WMD was nearly set off in the last movie.

And let's not forget that was entirely the fault of the HUMANS, not the Autobots, who went FAR out of their way to stop it. The entire planet and every single living thing on it would be one giant lump of tinfoil

Did that count for nothing? The humans should not only be damn fucking grateful to the Autobots but bending over backwards to HELP them, not actively try to murder their one and only hope to stop the Decepticons
>>
>>6258447
>The Autobots were fighting against them

and then an Autobot commander suddenly just became a traitor and led the invasion of chicago. That led to bias for both the factions given that Cybertronians have dangerous abilities to blend in with earth and launch a strike without warning. Given that during the disassembly of NEST and the consequent hunting of Autobot and Decepticon robots by Cemetery Wind and KSI companies, there's no trust left between the species.

It's also important to note that in AoE one of the White House representatives expressed that the President of the US wanted to meet up with Optimus Prime, indicating that while Prime is still considered a hero to some, the public will always see the Transformers as an alien threat and the military relations are now in tatters.
>>
I don't get why it takes the humans until the 4th movie to have cybertronian-level technology, when the US government has been reverse engineering Megatron underneath Hoover Dam for almost a century.

I really shouldn't let a plothole in fucking bayformers bug me, but it does anyway.
>>
>>6258480
I think I remember them going ancient aliens over Megatron in TF1 stating that he was the reason for a couple of 90's technologies. Meanwhile the reason for the AoE part is that most Cybertronians were desposed of in the atlantic and thus only a few cybertronian artifacts have in fact been bought in sold in the black market via DOTM's russian pub scene and the NASA vault scene.

I choose both.

It varies, depending on the robot. But I like all the masks in Titans Return.

'll have to go for faceplates.

My favorite Combiner team (the Combaticons) have faceplates for most of the team.

I think faceplates on the toys is nice, because it makes the expressions vague, which makes it easier for you to imagine them with any expression you want.

Personally, my favorite kind of face is with a visible mouth and a visor, like Jazz or Trailbreaker.

>toy's head is fucking huge
>still not as big as the G1 art
Holy shit. No wonder so many people were always bitching about MP-10 having a small head. It looked fine to me, but I was never geewunner. That cartoon had awful proportions.

How big was megatron portrayed most of the time in the cartoon?
>>
>>6258179
What amuses me are the people who STILL bitch it isn't G1-accurate enough. At this point they will only be satisfied with some kind of magical, physics-defying toy that cannot exist.
>>
>>6259142
>>6259140

To get a perfectly accurate megatron you'd have to make an action figure.
>>
>>6259148
I keep saying they should just do this to shut up the super-autists. It's not like they transform them anyway. All the most hardcore G1 fans always just have shelves of figures jammed shoulder-to-shoulder in a boring brick pose.
>>
>>6259141
after G1, megatron is almost always 15-20% bigger than Optimus
even in IDW.
Basically the only version that's Op's size is the gun transforming version.
>>
>>6259152

Something I'm suprised has not happened is a super luxury MP scaled set of action figures for both the alt and robot modes for perfect accuracy and articulation.

Everything could be painted, articulation could be insane, no one could bitch because everything would be scaled right.
>>
>>6259156
>no one could bitch because everything would be scaled right.
Oh I'm sure they would still bitch.

But I say that's a great idea either way, especially if it meant that MP designs would go back to having more freedom. So many of the hardcore G1 fans end up buying two of every MP anyway, so they can display in both modes and never have to transform them, anyway.

I really liked Tracks. I ended up playing with Loudpedal more, because I have a soft spot for literal whos, but Tracks was suave as fuck.

Is that mold as big of a POS as some people say? I heard the back assembly won't stay clipped in.

I own the mold twice over and both of mine tab in pretty well. It's not a SUPER sturdy connection, but as long as you have everything lined up, it's not going anywhere. I pick them up by the backpack to move them around all the time.

The mold isn't a POS, it's just a bit finicky. There're some big gaps behind his neck area, but you only really notice from the side. People also complain about his wheel shoulders bumping against his wings, but both can be adjusted to still get a wide variety of poses out of him.

I think the only thing truly bad about the mold are the ratchets in the elbows and knees. Articulation is very limited there, and for no real reason. Also, if the knee ratchets have slack in them, it makes posing him a bit of a pain.

Still, the mold has a unique look and the alt. mode is pure sex, so I still love it.

I wonder if Preceptor will be retooled into Rung for the Intelligence set. The side of Chaos On Velocitron shows that 4 sets are coming and since they're including many Comic Only characters it would probably make the most sense that Rung would be among them.

Literally only Nautica and a Thunderwing head.
