>What is the Hasbro Shared Universe?
A bunch of IDW creators having fun bashing their Transformers, G.I. Joe, MASK and Rom toys together. It's a lot of fun, except for MASK, which unfortunately sucks ass. I'm not the regular storytimer, I'm just filling in today

>This Week's Issues
Till All Are One #8
ROM #8
Lost Light #4
I'm pretty sure there's a MASK issue too but I can't bear to check

It has Starscream and IDW Elita. It was great from the beginning already.
>>
>>91136531

Because it's the only Transformers comic.

OP is a shitty TF X GI Joe crossover and LL is Roberts masturbating.
>>
>>91136622
OP's pretty good tho.

Roberts is figuratively and literally, an AU that has no bearing on the future most likely.
>>
>>91136657

OP suffers from typical Barbarisms of pointless inner monologues that do nothing to the story, interesting ideas that fiddle out and lead to nothing, characters having great ideas and set ups only to act like complete retards in the end and everything just ending up like a wet fart.

The intro-boxes are fucking annoying too, if people can't keep up with the same 5 characters for #5 issues then they are mentalily retarded and shouldn't be reading comics in the first place.

It's not a pure diarrhea slide like LL simply because I like the gritty 2000AD art style but it's not a good book.

Revolutionaries, now that's Barber in his prime.

>>
>>91137228

Also I'll add that I do enjoy Barber in short bursts.

I feel like he should be doing Revoluionaries and one-shots like the Annual we had because his writing is really fun in that format.

As an ongoing give someone else a turn. At this point I wouldn't even mind Shane "muh gewwunn" McCarthy trying an ongoing again. At least EoS was SO SHIT it was hilarious to read bc of how bad it is.

So what's Anode doing in two universes at once?
>>
So, I'm, is Metroplex dead?

And Rodinus is "het up?" What does that even mean?
>>
>>91137485

MU Anode made it to Luna 2 500 years previously, was attacked by a Decepticon, and was saved by the Necrobot. She is now on Necroworld with the Lost Light castaways and the other people Necrobot saved.

AU Anode made it to Luna 2 500 years previously, and since the Great War never happened, she came across the Cybertronians. She was incorporated into their society before eventually defecting to the Anti-Vocational League.
>>
>>91137535

Metroplex isn't dead, he's just effectively locked in because Windblade separated the connection between his brain module and his body. Somehow he sent a signal that release Chromia from her cell.

I've no clue about het. Heated up? Megatron's so repulsive he's going straight? Who knows.

Question, guys:

In a new Transformers series, how would you depict Optimus and Megatron?

I wouldn't mind seeing Optimus as a young and inexperienced leader, in command of all the Autobots, but hasn't been completely traumatized or jaded by war yet.

For Megatron, I'd like a kind of fallen hero, wanting the Cybertronian race to be the supreme rulers of the galaxy and their destiny (superior to the organics, as well as the old government that sold their race to said organics), but will trample upon anyone who stands in his way
>>
>>91140284

I don't know how I'd portray them, but one thing I know is that I want Starscream to start on the Autobots' side (at least as a mole), and then betray them for the Decepticons.
>>
>>91140284
Optimus Prime and Megatron are split personalities of the same body.

Comparing how he wrote an entire issue of "lol it's a comic book stop being so serious" when people called him out on his shitty hipster music and Dr Who ripping off back in the 40s these days it's pretty much tame man.

If anything I think he's getting a bit anxious that the book sales have hit the shitter since Milne was cucked. He didn't realize that the art was as important as his shitty hipster references so he's in full panic mode now.

>>
>>91141577

2011 officially. Problem is Roberts isn't a comic reader or a big fiction reader in general. He's more into TV.

He writes his issues like it's a TV show. He structures his plots as if it's a TV show. And being that he was a fanfiction writer first he also doesn't understand how mass media franchises ran by a big corporations work and that his "vision" can have a big corporate cock shoved though its butthole at any point at time.

That's why his Dark Cybertron issues were shit. That's why his Revolution issue was shit. That's why his every event issue is shit. He's unable and unwilling to move past his regular idea and at least TRY to do anything remotely interesting as a side story.

Strict G1 Optimus, John Wayne hints in his voice and all. Allows for fun and actually being a good leader.

Megatron would be full on early IDW/All Hail Megatron tier.

Sorry, but those are the best ways both of these characters have ever been done, and I'd want a comic series with'em both. Actual body designs can vary of course, I just need those personalities. You can have your IDW-ized body designs with those personalities, or whatever.

So that's what happens when a NON-Titan Master tries to control a Titan.

You get fucked.

I guess that she didnt have "THE TOUCH".
Poor Wind-Voice.

Where is Optimus Prime when you need him?
Dont Titans fucking love him and obey?

I know IDW doesnt want the Matrix back, but I REALLY liked how Optimus Prime would perform miracles with that thing.

Why is it that NOBODY in the IDW universe recalls the times Prime saved the fucking day with that thing? It's only recently that they've been noticing his Prime abilities.
>>
>>91143048

Optimus Prime was busy on Earth, and it was mentioned at the beginning of the arc that there was no time to bring in reinforcements while also having time to ship out all the injured (particularly Omega Supreme, who would probably be a bitch to transport).

I believe most of the Matrix-based miracles were at the beginning of the war, so not everyone is around to remember them.
>>
>>91142766
>You would have to basically devote a year

Now imagine if those oh so important Swerth, Personality ticks and Sunder issues got replaced into the DJD arc issue.

Surely MTMTE couldn't possibly exists without it's shitty sitcom and music references.
>>
>>91134444
Optimus is utter shit, bruh.
>>
>>91143147
I'm not that guy, but I disagree. Optimus is amazingly written.

I just hate the fact that IDW keeps writing Optimus Prime as such an atheistic non believer, when he's literally been TRANSFORMED BY THE MATRIX FIRE, when he was shot to pieces and torn apart, and reborn into a huge body capable of taking on Megatron.

He also has used the Matrix to perform what can only be described as MIRACLES.

Does he need more proof or something?
Does he need Primus himself to tell him "You've got the Touch!"

Maybe the Matrix needs to transform him again, and make him into Apex Armor Optimus Prime, like that version where he merges with his trailer.

It was the way the DJD went out after so much HYPE that is what made the ending so shitty for most I think.
You know that scene in the Indiana Jones films where the guy with the hug scimitar sword steps out to fight Indy and he just shots him with a gun? It was funny and clever because they guy had no build up and no one was expecting an epic, long drawn out battle.
The DJD had been teased for 4 years as big scary murder machine badasses. And the only time we got to see them in a real fight was when they fucked about a bit fighting a few of the Lost Light crew. And then poof they were all killed by Megatron in a few panels. You don't build something up like that for 4 years to shit out in 4 panels. I hate to say it at this point because its almost meme status but yeah, its bad writing.

Anon I agree we saw them plenty of times but every single one of those you posted besides the Scavengers battle was no more than a few pages, usually 2 or 3 tops out of a whole issue. The torture scenes were also incredibly short. I see what you're getting at but if I really wanted to make a case for us seeing them I would say issue 39 was as good as it got.
But yeah the speed with which they were slughtered compared to the fight between them and Megatron having been teased since Megs first turned was horrible imo.
But none of that matters at this point, only trying to figure out what it was that made so many people hate 55.

In fact, what's going on with the moon could have waited until the next issue after Rung said his piece and let us see whatever Rodimus jumped into. I hated losing him too, but the fact that it affected us so much must mean the writing was effective.
>>
>>91152321
Killing Skids, Ravage and the DJD was all unnecessary and goes back to Roberts boner for slaughtering as many as he can for a cheap rise out of his audience.
>>
>>91151828
I'm more expecting newly purple Rodclonus to completely murder them, guns blazing, doing Megatron proud and when Drift goes, "WTF DUDE!?" Rodimus will just shrug because it's not their universe so who gives a fuck.
>>
>>91152429
I didn't think it was that effective, as it was basically just killing him off just so Megatron can use Terminus as his sounding board and confidant.

Ravage was one of my favorite characters from way back in the G1 days, and I was happy he was going to be joining the MTME cast so he can actually do something.
Too bad that something he did was fucking die.
and then his TR toy came out which was even more of an insult
>>
>>91152640

Ravage has long been one of my favorites since I was little and had his G1 toy. Losing him in MTMTE just when he got to be awesome and do stuff killed me.

Actually that bothered me too, especially since he just HAD a Spotlight and a toy come out before that debacle.

Also really jarring as unless it's Rewind nobody really mourns people croaking in MTME, but I guess a few hundred centuries of war can do that to a robot.

>almost all your old favorites? DEAD
>screentime taken up by literally whos for almost the entire movie
>Dinobots lose any and all intelligence they once had (sure they were lacking in subtlety and people skills in the first place, but they weren't borderline retarded like the movie and 3rd season)

Frankly it's a miracle Soundwave and every one of his cassettes survived the culling the movie did to the cast since virtually everybody from the MTME pilot became dead or MIA.

Always find it funny now interviews with story writers, producers and Hasbro had virtually none of them think that the deathtoll wouldn't upset the kids that would be watching it.
>>
>>91156992

So was I, and as a kid I was a bit upset, but I also thought it was pretty cool. I also liked the new characters.
>>
>>91157033
Frankly I thought losing Starscream was the thing that hurt the most (and the writers did too since they brought him back as a spoopy ghost later).

The way they had the final fight between Optimus and Megatron really could have had more thought put into it though. Hot Rod's basically being responsible for Op's death soured a lot of people on him (and the third season having Rodimus Prime be a jerkass or complaining about being leader didn't help).

Roddy was a pretty decisive character for quite awhile in the fandom. Shame he's getting to that point again in IDW due to bad writing.
>>
>>91152134
Windblade's entire purpose is to shove her into things, she's a brand longevity celebration character.
>>91156992
>Frankly it's a miracle Soundwave and every one of his cassettes survived
>The popularity of Soundwave and his interactive tape gimmick was evident from an early stage: his toy continued to be sold throughout 1986, after the vast majority of his 1984 brethren had been removed from toy shelves, and Mini-Cassette partners continued to be produced for him even after this, through 1988.

I really like Rodimus, but he really needs to talk with Rung more and Megatron should NEVER have been made captain. He's been great as part of the crew but Getaway still had a point. A four million year war and countless dead and he gets a position of authority and a pat on a back? It's just not...right. In the newest issue I thought the spat between Megatron and Rodimus was great and needed. But Roberts is stroking Megatron's dick here. Immediately berates Rodimus for trying to obtain a teleporter so they can get back to their own universe. Plus there's there's the tactical advantage of having an offensive teleporter that could be used to attack functionist weaponry. I don't think anyone else knows of the need to get back to their universe from Drift's vision. I could go on...but there's just so many little things piling up...
>>
>>91157646
>had virtually all the Decepticon cassettes as a kid.

not fair at all. ;_;
>>
>>91157711
Megatron being allowed to roam free AND given co-captaincy of Rodimus own privately created expedition was such a fucking asspull. If Getaway wasn't so fucking assholish and ruthless in his methods, I would agree with what he's arguing about. Too bad what he's pulled is pretty irredeemable (and having everybody else be perfectly fine with abandoning Rodimus' inner circle is also horrible).

I want this Functionist side quest to be over with so we can get back to the Lost Light.

I'm rather optimistic to be honest. If it does hit 40-60%, then I have faith for whatever horror comes next.

In any case, here's the Cinemacon footage description:

The Opening
>The first scene was the actual opening of the movie. It starts with the familiar Paramount logo and then giant fireballs launching over it. What ensues is a tremendous battle of medieval warriors battling it out. We quickly learn that King Arthur's forces were being overwhelmed and Merlin has gone for help. Interestingly parts of King Arthur's armor seemed to move and glow, suggesting the Knights of the Round Table had armor enhanced with Cybertronian technology. We are quickly introduced to Merlin (in a rather comical fashion) before seeing him arrive at what appears to be a Cybertronian ship that crashed ages ago.

>Cut to Merlin riding back to the battle, this time with Dragonstorm! This scene was a powerful and visceral way to begin the movie. The battle scene involved hundreds of actors and stuntmen filming over three days and all the hard work shows on screen. It was also fascinating to see that Transformers and humans worked together in the distant past. I am also glad this scene did not repeat the live action movie trope of having Optimus Prime do a voice over. It felt more fresh and new that way.

The Junkyard
>At a junkyard Cade is seen chastising Grimlock as Izabella and Sqweeks watch amused. Grimlock apparently loves chewing on cars (or eating them). Cade tells him to spit it out and eventually he does, and looks a bit sick in the process. Cade talks to him like a child, telling him to think about what he has done. There is also a quick line Cade says about being "guests" at the junkyard.

>Though a good portion of this sequence has already appeared in trailers it was nice to see it put together as a complete sequence instead of just a tiny clip. For some fans seeing Grimlock going from the fierce warrior in "Age of Extinction" to having a "comedy scene" may seem odd, but in an unexpected way this parallels what happened with Generation One Grimlock. In the TV show he was often portrayed as a rebellious, powerful warrior. Then later in the 1986 film the writers added a comedic element to the character, down to him asking Kup to tell him stories like a child. So long as they keep his fierceness and ability to battle I have no problem with it.

Assault
>In this sequence we see the TRF gearing up to capture a target. From all appearances, their target is Cade! Among those leading this group is Lennox. Next we see a dramatic sequence where military vehicles drive along a highway only to be attacked by Grimlock and Slug! The Dinobots make quick work of the vehicles, tossing them into the air and knocking them aside. It was a really dramatic sequence and reminded everyone that the Dinobots represent incredible power. I will also say for such a dramatic sequence the camera was surprisingly still compared to previous films. There is one great shot of Slug from roughly a human's level that was amazing to behold and will look amazing on an IMAX screen.

Cogman
>What appears to be a bowling alley, Cade meets Cogman. This human sized Transformer is not part of Bumblebee's group but rather has been sent to bring Cade to...someone. When Crosshairs tries to step in to help Cade, Cogman manages to beat the shit out of him. He may be human sized, but he seems just as powerful as the larger Autobots. He then tells Cade that he has a destiny and that he must leave his friends to protect them. In a key scene, he hands Cade a metal symbol like the ones on the armor King Arthur and the Knights were wearing in the opening sequence. It moves up Cade's arm and Cogman tells him it will not leave him. What this means remains to be seen. Cade realizes that Cogman is right and tells Izabella that she will be taken care of because she is family (this scene is in the trailer). Cogman then takes Cade for a ride in an old style bomber plane, complete with propellers and silver chrome exterior.

Sir Edmound Burton
>At a gigantic castle we meet Sir Edmound Burton (played by Anthony Hopkins) is walking his dog (played by Freya the world's "loneliest" dog). Cogman, Bumblebee and Cade walk towards the castle when a seemingly inactive World War One tank fires a blast at them. Burton tells the tank to hold off and it transforms! While the character is not named, he looks like a chunky Transformer wearing a military hat with a monocle on one eye! This is a very "retro" design, like something that you would see in an alt-history Transformers story. Burton explains the tank is old and still thinks its in World War One but he calms down. Soon a sports car comes roaring down the path transforming and ejecting a woman. The robot is Hot Rod who looks apologetic about ejecting his passenger.

>Later, inside the castle it is revealed the woman brought to the castle by Hot Rod is Viviane Wembly (played by Laura Haddock). She and Sir Burton have history (I think she is his daughter but the different last names are throwing me off). Cade and Viviane do not get along at first, leading to Cogman attacking Cade to "protect" her. Sir Burton stops him and then begins to tell a story. The story incorporates some of Anthony Hopkins' narration from an earlier trailer.

>Flashing back again to the time of King Arthur, we learn that the Knights of the Round Table were each backed up by a Cybertronian Knight. Dramatic images play of the human and Cybertronian Knights joining swords in a circle. Sir Burton tells us they were a force of good and justice even back then. The Cybertronian Knights all looked like stylized medieval knights, with armor that was reminiscent of the way the Dinobots looked in the last movie in robot form, but with more smooth parts and less jagged points.

Underwater
>Cade and Vivian are in what appears to be an old World War Two submarine. They are being followed by two modern submersibles with Lennox and his crew. The subs are all approaching a gigantic Cybertronian structure underwater. Cade and Vivian are able to get in through a giant hatch, but it closes behind them causing Lennox and crew to have to find a different way in. This scene was quick but gave a good sense of the scope of the visuals and story. Also, this scene gave us a quick peek at a control room where General Morshower was on hand to give orders!
Battleground
>In what looks like it could be a part of the final battle sequence in the movie, a group of TRF Ospreys crash land near giant chunks of land crashing into what look like parts of Cybertron. The two appear to be merging and there is definitely a sense of tension throughout the scene. The scene also shows the Autobots on their own vehicles flying into the scene alongside Dragonstorm! The scene had a lot of quick cuts so the exact story context was not quite there, but it should prove interesting seeing how all these warriors come together for this final battle.

>Once the lights came up, Bay actually asked us all for our feedback on what we had just seen. Apparently the clips we saw were a reel put together for theater companies to see and he wanted to represent the film as best as he could given footage that is available now. He took the feedback well and confessed that much of what we were saying reflected his own thoughts. One non-spoiler suggestion was to include more moments with the Decepticons in the reel (in contrast, there was plenty of Autobot representation). When asked about how long he has to finish the film, Bay told us that movies have been known to come as close to two weeks before the release day of a film. He told us "Age of Extinction" came very close to its deadline due in part to the complexity of some of the special effects.

I think Chromia's clock is ticking. Her crimes are now known and she just now busted out of prison. Pretty hard to recover the character from the stupid shit the writers have had her do, so I see a sacrifice or a senseless death in her future.

Especially since Windblade is still getting toys and she hasn't had one since her original IDW inspired release a long while back.
>>
>>91158153
>I hate dumb Grimlock, why must most media keep going back to that?

Because everyone remembers him as a loveable retard. Only the older comics ever really did the whole "genius fighter" bullshit, and honestly, not too many people read those compared to people who have seen the older cartoons.

And yeah, I prefer retard Grimlock too.
>>
>>91158222
I kinda ship Windscream, but honestly I just want the guy to have a friend he knows isn't imaginary. The good he could do if he actually trusted somebody like her and what it will take for him to actually trust and rely on someone other than himself has potential for a good story.
>>

>>
>>91158271
That's because Hasbro is desperately trying to push Windblade as a main character in an effort to force people to want her, hence why she keeps getting new toys at Optimus-speeds.

I don't think it's working.
>>
>>91158275

>>
>>91158275
He wasn't a downright retard in most of the cartoon though, it was only the movie and season 3.
Hell, his first appearances had him disgusted at Optimus Prime's leadership and complaining about his group basically being used for heavy muscle.
>>
>>91158305
Yeah, FoC was a great attempt at consolidating both origin stories.

A shame making WfC/FoC part of the Alligned continuity ruined it, even despite the fact they broke that up thanks to Grimlock ironically.
>>
>>91158275
I like him portrayed more like Bragg from Gaunt's Ghosts. Not the smartest guy. But because he's big too people think hes stupid. So he let's people think that and they underestimate him. He never approached anything like a "genius" but he was able to surprise people more than once because of it.
>>
>>91158313
Does she?

Every time I go looking for Titans Return figures (and inevitably find nothing but Stripes and Rewinds) I always see unsold RiD Windblades.
>>
>>91158298
She's only had one Generations toy, one deluxe RiD toy, a legion version of that toy, and is getting a TR toy in the future. Since Hasbro considers RiD different than Generations then she's only had two toys for each line. Still less than most of the other main characters.

Her Generations toy was also horribly mediocre, especially compared to the Arcee and Chromia toys (granted Chromia was just a retool of Prime Arcee).
>>
>>91158318
Wait. I forgot it's Aligned. And RiD is Aligned. But that Grimlock is completely different!
>>
>>91158305

Thats probably what they're going to do in the IDW stuff as well, if he ever stops being a virtually mute vegetable anyway.
>>
>>91158331
RiD figures suck in general because of the GIANT BADGE taking up a large portion of some part of their design. Plus they're usually smaller and simpler.
>>
>>91158344
Well at least none of the other dinobots seem to be heading that way. In fact I think they adapted one of the dinobots from AoE in the Redemption oneshot.
>>
>>91158331
I see unsold everything of RiD, Windblade isn't the only peg warmer. They cheaped out on her RiD toy too as she suffers the same problem Drift and other toys in that line have of not enough paint applications and her plastic colors mismatch so the toy isn't that flattering.

Anon I dont care either way but you seem awfully desperate for this ship to be real.
>>
>>91158603
Anode: Flat and short, probably wears over-alls and is covered in grease
Elita: Olympian weightlifter
Slipstream: Fashion whore constantly changing body types just like Starscream
>>
>>91158052
>mommy Arcee and reconciled political rival Soundwave
It writes itself
>>
>>91158603
We should do the LL cast too:
Rodimus: the jock, handsome popular, an ass
Minimus Ambus: the 4' 11" grouchy neighbor with 8 cats
Rung: skinny intellectual college professor no one notices
Drift: half asian/caucasian martial arts trainer that claims he's 100% japanese, is nice but is also kinda dumb
Megatron: the old man down the street who is strangely buff for some reason and you're almost certain he's done prison time for murder
>>
>>91158636
Not desperate. Not gonna lie that I'd kinda like to see it. But just felt like pointing out that we can't really speculate on the future of the franchise all too well. For all we know WIndblade could be evil, Swindle could be altruistic, and Grimlock could be the avatar of Vector Sigma.
>>
>>91158670
The holomatter avatar issues have taken the fun out of brainstorming those.
>>
>>91158670
Rodimus is literally Marty McFly with tattoos. Also not Lost Light but Soundwave is Dr. Dolittle.
>>
>>91158654
Slipstream needs to show up again.

Figured they would have done it by now in the comics since they've plenty of opportunities with the colonies. Half the canon seekers are dead or hiding at this point anyway, need more.

Speaking of which, Sunstorm being a "hi and die" was such a fucking waste.
>>
>>91158680
Of course anything is possible but I was giving actual concrete information. I mean you could make infinite lists of things that could happen. I'd like Ravage to come back but I doubt that's likely.

She doesn't need to have her Animated origin or be connected to Starscream at all besides being a seeker. Her Aligned character didn't have her origin be tied to him.

Probably the second someone replaces Roberts or Hasbro makes a new decent sized Ravage toy he'll be back.
>>91158765
They could easily make her Starscream's Tarn. Just not so...murdery. Basically emulating his alt-mode and such. IDW hasn't covered his pre-war life so there's something they could do with that. Or they could possibly do something with Starscream having a strange spark again.

It seems /co/ is a place of reason at least. I've seen so many people already saying Rodimus was just a straight up as hole and Megatron didn't deserve to be yelled at this issue. Haven't talked about it much in this thread, but I'm glad to see nobody has that opinion yet here. I just don't understand them. Honestly I think Megatron becoming an Autobot and joining the crew was a great thing. But Optimus saying he's the captain, on a ship Drift bought, and giving Cybertron's greatest war criminal command over his former enemy faction and in charge of the journey to his own judgement...well that should never have happened. He should been put on parole and kept away from ANY command position.

Plus I just feel like he's doing what he always does. Just goes for whatever the fuck he feels like, consequences be damned. He never had to sacrifice anything unlike Rodimus who was forced to blow up his own city and all its people. And Megatron immediately calls his interest in a teleporter that can send things across cybertron a "petty vendetta" when that could kill two birds with one stone. They get a teleporter for getting back to the rest of them, and they stop it from being used as a weapon against the planet if they can take it.

Roberts is just dragging everything out way too long.
>>

>>
>>91159663
Getaway did nothing wrong.
>>
>>91159707
I just want them to get on the way for the Knights. They've got Rodimus' map he carved but I doubt Perceptor can read it. Thunderclash could conceivably lead them to the Knights but I'm hoping he's so disgusted at Getaway he strikes off on his own. The best revenge Rodimus could get is already half done. Everyone on cybertron knows Getaway left them to the DJD. Even a lot of Decepticons would view that at least as a dick move. Then there's the possibility that stranding Megatron would be in violation of the Tyrest Accord and fall under the purview of Fort Max for interfering with the outcome of Megatron's trial. And if they finally got on their way and found the Knights first he could come back and shove it all in Getaway's face before he kills him.

But we ain't gonna get any of that.
>>
>>91159744
He had good points but the second he invloved anyone besides Megatron he did everything wrong. He left them at the whims of that galactic organization who hated cybertronians. They "just wanted Megatron" but he had no real guarantee they wouldn't do anything to anyone else. If he had simply stranded them, without any danger, then he would have done nothing wrong.
>>
>>91159807
>simply stranding them

He wore out his welcome after his Mary Sue power-up. He's also dragging Cyclonus and Whirl down into his pit of mediocrity as well.
Especially Cyclonus, whose relationship with the little bugger was originally something as a "Mentor-Pupil" relationship, now Roberts is trying to paint it as just another romance thing as that gets all the upvotes.

I will admit MTMTE/Lost Light no longer leaves me excited when a new issue drops. It's feeling...tedious. I can take or leave Tailgate, though with his super strength and ability to apparently murder hundreds of people in one go, yeah, that's some straight up bullshit. Compounded because they used his bullshit abilities to give everyone else abilities and killed Skids in the process.

Oh and the death of Trailbreaker was probably the worst misstep Roberts made for me. I'm sure what he did later is worse, but by them the damage was already done - the death of Trailbreaker is what killed enough of the hype that I just shrugged when the rest of the BS happened. It isn't that Trailbreaker is somehow my favorite but after his moping, his coming to terms with himself in his spotlight, and Megatron verbally smacking some sense into him he felt like he was being built up for something and instead he was being built up for a cheap death for, I guess, shock value. Sorry, Roberts, but you can only so many time can you try to tell a compelling story before suddenly turning around, thrusting your ass in their face, and farting before it gets old. First time and it gets old. It's not clever, it's not funny, it's actually shit story telling. Apparently all so Megatron could loot the corpse later.

To put it into perspective, if it weren't for storytime threads I wouldn't be reading this at all. No way I'm wasting more money on this shit. Hell, if it weren't for other issues being storytimed and the tie-ins to other TF comics (however fleeting those are) I wouldn't be bothering.
>>
>>91171943
Tailgate's spasm was different from Skids' because Tailgate spent forever under the surface of Cybertron and absorbed all kinds of funky radiation in the process.
>>
>>91172009
They've all absorbed funky shit over millions of years. Not to mention Tailgate's gone from a dying spark to Cyclonus stabbing him to reenergize via spark transfer since Vector Siggy gave Cyclonus a fresh, newborn spark somehow when he made him a real boy, i.e. a body no longer bound to the Dead Universe.

The problem was that Skid's trauma was too intense and he burned out his own spark in the process, which they knew was a risk factor.

The best is there is a chance they never connected Pipe's crawling to the alarm button and saving lives with the warning. There was an argument in TFG at the time with at least one person swearing up and down that once they found his corpse near an alarm button they'd figure it out, but then there's every chance, and with Roberts that chance is magnified, that someone, probably Whirl, just swept up the remains and dumped them in a coffin without bothering to study the context. Just another victim of Overlord's rampage, his heroic sacrifice completely overlooked.
>>
>>91171791
I'll admit that Overlord killing Rewind wouldn't quite make sense if he recognizes Rewinds as a recorder and data storage unit. We know Rewind carries a shit ton of data in him and we know Overlord has been searching for things that can help him. Of course that might mean Rewind is in Overlord's secret rape dungeon being dissected for information. Or he could even have traded the bot to the Council Worlds. A recorder holding Cybertronian history would be a nifty propaganda coup for them in their endeavors to stymie the Cybertronians and acquire more allies in their efforts. Especially with Cybertron repopulated and making alliances with colonies and even claiming Earth.

The thing is Roberts tends to drop plothooks he never gets back to. We've never seen anything from the Council dude talking about regime change on Cybertron, amidst a half dozen other dangling plot threads.
>>
>>91172253
IDW will never get back to their biggest dangling plot hook with the Magnificence. What happened to it, what did Hot Rod do with it, why won't he just go drudge it back up and ask point blank where the Knights are as he's obviously sick of the journey at this point.

I didn't see any point in bringing up Bumblebee but since you did I don't particularly see why a sudden revelation, a mere SUGGESTION, that he might be alive matters so long after the issue showing his death, or if you prefer his "death".

The reason I wouldn't bring up Bumblebee is whether it was him or not his ghost has been a part of the story and continuing his presence such that it didn't matter if it was really him or not.

And that's rather the point. Red Alert's "death", Rung's "death", Tailgate's "death", and seemingly blowing up everyone at the end of season 2. Revealing they are still alive hardly eliminated the emotional value of their apparent demise. Most of these were revealed to still be alive by the next issue and Tailgate's fake death due to being stabbed by Cyclonus was revealed in the same issue. Revealing they are alive doesn't eliminate the reaction at the apparent death.

The shared universe idea if falling. They tough it would boos stales but Micronauts are dead as an ongoing and will only continue as a series of minis.

MASK is universally hated and will probably be dead after the second volume.

ROM is doing OK I guess but I don't think it will live much longer as an ongoing.

G.I. Joe will once again die out because nobody gives a shit about GI Joe and the few that do only care about the the RAH version that Hama is still writing. Stiterson shoot his own foot by being a relentless faggot about how his book is TEH BEST which soured a lot of TF fans who knew that his series wouldn't exist without the push that was created by MTMTE & RID in the past which cost him a fuck ton of potential readers.

Revolutionaries only exist as a title to keep the universe going, once it dies it dies with it.

I feel like in the next 5 or so years the whole thing will go to shit and the IDW editorial will simply go "fuck it, pull the plug and reboot everything".

The chances are that the new universe will be closer to the movies or will be used to test out idea for the movie universe in the same way Marvel does their shit.
>>
>>91176457
I will never figure out why Hasbro had this idea of "If customer likes THING then they will like OTHER THING if we force it on them".

TF was doing just fine for 30 years (oh god) with only sporadic pokes into collaborations with G.I.Joe and virtually no other tie-ins, now they just slam them all together and except it to to work AND have people suddenly get interested in G.I.Joe, MASK, ROM, and whatever else they felt like shoving in. MASK especially as it bombed during it's original debut back in the 80s as it was basically 'Transformers that don't transform into robots" and the dorky looking pilots that drive them. Flash forward over 2 and a half decades later and it's still the same premise.. except there are actual bonafide Transformers in this universe now, so who cares?

>I will never figure out why Hasbro had this idea of "If customer likes THING then they will like OTHER THING if we force it on them".

It's simple really, Hasbro in general doesn't understand it's fanbase.

I might be pulling shit out of my arse here (90% in fact) but I've been in all sides of the TF fandom and Hasbro operates on a logic that is in a whole other dimension.

The two pillars of the transformers consumerbase are the children and the adults. The children will like whatever is cool looking or whatever is on TV or in the movies. None of them will read comics so taking them into account it pointless.

The fanbase however is broken up. The two most prominent constant parts of the fanbase are the comic fans and the geewun crowd. The movie fans are a horde that desends when a movie drops and then goes away for a couple of years until the movie drops again and repeat..

The geewuun crowd doesn't like anything. They still hold out hope that a cartoon will come their way that will totally be G1 reborn and set in the G1 universe and everything will be ok etc. They also never ever forgive so they will NEVER read a comic book in their life ever again as long as IDW has the licence so trying to appeal to them is impossible. Most of them are now only in for the hyper g1 toys.

Then you have the comic fans that are mostly non toy fans. They are in it for the story and the comic. The large majority of them aren't even comic readers and having to read two comic was already too hard for them and now they got thrusted into a world of like 15 books they should keep track of so they didn't give a fuck.
>>

In comes HASBRO being pants on head retarded and they operate on the idea that the comic reading fanabase is the same as the geewunn fanbase. So they think that showing all the toys in the comic will somehow make the geewunn fanbase likethe toys even MORE and since the geewunn fanbase is all dudes in their 40s they think that shoving all these obscure 80s franchises into one world will cause them to cream their pants from nostalgia and love them even more.

Tl;dl hasbro wants to be a media company but is utteraly unable to think like a media company.
>>
>>91176895
Pretty solid description, but I wonder if geewunners are more vocal against Bayformers above every other incarnation. I wonder what it was when Beast Wars appeared to the purists.
>>
>>91176895
Funny thing is that comic fans don't even have toys of their comic characters and have to rely mostly on 3P for near accuracy.
>>
>>91176129
Haha, nice.
>>
>>91176977

The geewunn crowd is kept at bay by the hype-G1 generation line and the MP line. Once that stops they will be out for good or go 3rd party only.

Comic fans have been going 3P for a good long while now since Hasbro refuses to make the characters they want, or when they do make them they don't look like the comic version so they still go 3P.

If Hasbro was smart and took their whole "we're totally a media giant you guuuuys" shit seriously they'd shitcan the RID cartoon, hire a competent studio, give some shekles and hire people who can actually make quality TV shows like Weisman or McCracken or Grendy or whoever is willing to do it and has a record of popular shows. Take Roberts (being the most popular writer) and Furman (still popular with the geewun crowd) and have them write a few episodes for the "nerd" cred and have the show be at least aesthetically tied with the Generations line.

Kids will buy the toys because they saw them on tv, geewuuns will buy them anyway regardless of the show because of nostalgia and it might lure in new people and comic readers by being a decent show who will buy toys.

But Hasbro won't because again they aren't a media company, they are a toy company and they still think like a toy company.

This. Fuck you Hasbro, I'd give you my money if you'd actually make characters that LOOK like their comic incarnations.

I'd rather RID in this case.

I consider myself a bit of a GEEWUNer as I vastly prefer G1 and it's throwbacks, but I can tolerate the other universes like the Beast era, the original RID, new RID, Animated, etc.

I cannot stand the movie as I consider the robots in it hideous abominations and movies just aren't that good or entertaining. The one thing they used to have going for them was that there would be the occasional nice toy (I love the first movie's deluxe Blackout), but they started going cheap on even those with the last movie.

>love the IDW comics because they're basically updated G1, with pretty damn nice art all around
>hate the Bayformers movies because they're shit, the stories are shit, the aesthetics are shit

So where do I fall on the spectrum of TF autism here?

Rodimus always gets shit figures for some reason.

Anon are you mean? I'm pretty much the same on all fronts.

Buy his MP, it's pretty much perfect. Unless you don't like buying expensive figures, in which case you're fucked, you'll never get a "good" Hotrod because you can either have him cheap, or you can have him good, but never both, as one will never allow the other.
>>
>>91177770
I buy 3rd party all the time, I have no problem with buying expensive figures but I hadn't pulled the trigger on his MP just yet because I honestly haven't gotten around to looking at the reviews for it. Anything I should know?
>>
>>91177362
Don't pretend comic fans hold any significant toy marketshare. It's always G1ers. That is why there is the constant flood of MPs. Only MMC bother their time chasing IDW dollars. MT tried and failed.
>>
>>91177407
I'd want a show that looks like Transformers, not a pile of shit that makes Animated look good.

Worst about him is he's a little back heavy because everything collapses into his backpack more or less. Also some people have kind of shitty sprue marks on his chromed out pipes, but thats Takara QC for ya'.

Theres some 3P ones in the works if you don't like how square his chest is, but looking at him in hand he looks pretty damn perfect to me.

Eh, Hasbro's been doing IDW-ized Generations bots for a while now though. Honestly, most of the current bots are either IDW, G1, or a mix of both. And they all end up looking pretty good, though of course theres the occasional "The fuck were they thinking?" moments. But every company has those.

...Also was pretty funny when they were packaging the IDW comics in with the figures, and some of the comics had some pretty goddamn violent scenes in them. I wonder if thats why they stopped doing that, maybe parents complained when they saw people getting neck snapped and shit in the comics coming with dem dere robutt toys they bought to shut lil' Johnny the fuck up for an hour.

>Two Stupid Dogs and Powerpuff Girls is perfect for giant space robot wars
>>
>>91177432
and meant I loved the Barricade toy, mainly on how interesting his transformation was as it was still the era when Hasbro had designers who didn't want to ultra simplify everything (and thus hurting either the robot or vehicle mode in the process).
>>
>>91177998
Two Stupid Dogs gritty reboot when?
>>
>>91177972
It's actually funny (actually it's really really not), once they stopped including the comics with the toys the prices WENT UP instead of down.
>>
>>91178083

When did prices go up? Shits still like $14-15 bux for Deluxes and $10 for Legends. Voyagers and Leaders are the same too.
>>
>>91177972
>I wonder if thats why they stopped doing that,

Because the pack in comics would've had to be finished like 6 months in advance in order to be packed in.

The whole packaging thing was a blunder because of the nature of it the stories that came with the toys were shit because they had to be written hastily, and the art was shit because they had to get the cheapest available artist they possibly could.

So the comic fans end up hating the comic, the toy buying people end up hating the comic and end up deciding that they don't' want to give any other comic a chance because if the commercial for the comic was this bad th actual comic must be even worse.

Not counting the geewuuns tho whose reaction to see IDW is

>REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

regardless of quality.
>>
>>91178175
CW figures used to be $12.99 around here, the TR toys in the same size class are now $15.99.

The Legends are about the same price though.

That's true. I still have a deep guilty love for TF1 and TF3 and the only reason I have a thing for TF5 is because of being a minor characterfag for Barricade via TF1 nostalgia.

Besides that, Bayformers actually have 3P now but it's more of "advanced knock-offs" where they take the mold, use better plastic and paint and change the transformations of some parts.

See those toes? They can turn into actually turning wheels.

At least TLK seems to be a step up from the mediocre toyline AoE was.
>>
>>91178204
The comics were a waste of paper to include in the toys since they weren't made for toys, they were repacked comics that already existed... so you had

>Comics the comic buyers already owned
>toys packed in with comics that had NOTHING to do with them
>more paper to throw in the trash and kill the planet faster

Nobody won. No buyer, child or adult, is going to be like "OH BOY A COMIC WITH MY TOY SCOOP IT'S ALREADY TWENTY PARTS IN AND SCOOP APPEARS IN ONE PANEL TO SAY "Uh" THIS TOTALLY ADDS TO THE TOY"

The later GI Joe comic packs were better since Hasbro actually got them to make new comics to focus on the toys you were buying.
>>
>>91178270
>you'll never lick Robot John Goodman's rubber toes
>>
>>91178306

They were good for the first wave when they made spotlights, but those spotlight still ended up kinda shitty because again they had to find the cheapest of the cheap artists to do them in record time in order to make packing deadlines.

Only the Trailbreaker and Megatron comic were actually kinda good.

Problem is Hasbro has no idea what they are doing and are mostly winging it. If they could just sit the fuck down and tell IDW a year and a half in advance like "we're doing these 10 deluxes next year make 10 spotlight for them", chances are they would be able to bullshit out some decent books.

But they don't and toy get canceled, or new toys get made or repainted ouf of the blue.

Honestly going back to the old model of a fewer toys a year for the Generation line would be better at this point.

Now I think they are still flush over how ridiculously well received Combiner Wars was and figured they could go whole hog on Titans Return and get the same reaction.

Shame headmasters were never as well remembered as combiners were back in all other TF media, and the gimmick actually hurts several of the toys.
>>
>>91178449
All in all Spotlights were far better when they did Dark Cybertron. Speaking as a guy who started reading comics at Dark Cybertron, that shit was not a good series to put with the toys.

>>
>>91178534

Line-wide gimmicks sell toys as fuck, just look at the Sentai and Rider toylines in Japan, the toy sales are SO GOOD that they are literally makings shows on a loss with beyond shittastic ratings because of how insanely good the toy sales are.

Scrambled city combining was a god tier gimmick that every kid wanted. Giving a character new head isn't really a gimmick worth buying multiple figures for.

Honestly outside of combining there never was a gimmick that was any good was there? Target masters are just guns it's not really a gimmick, powermasters are shit because you can still transforms the toy just by pushing the button, pretenders are literally "oh shit nigger what are you doing" and brainmasters are a more reatarded version headmasters.

I don't get what possible gimmick could they do that would hype kids up other than going full skylanders (which they won't that'd require money and a decently fun game not a shitty iphone app)
>>
>>91178560
The Combaticons and some of the other CW toys were still coming with Dark Cyberton comics that didn't have any of them involved in the plot at all.
Sky Reign's limbs (Wheeljack, Trailbreaker, Smokescreen, Hound) actually came with CW comics.. and of course Sky Reign wasn't actually in Combiner Wars and was thrown in as a half assed 'hi and bye' in the comic months later.
It's was amusing more than anything.

>>91178681
Doesn't help that the headmasters themselves are extremely cheaply made compared to the G1 versions. Most of them don't even have any paint on the little robot's parts so you'll keep it in head mode anyway.
>>
>>91178798
CW really had bad execution. I think it would've been better if it were on earth given that it would be mass-formed to godzilla-tier.
>>
>>91178709
They could have dragged out CW for another half year if they started using new molds instead of making the 500th repaint of Dead End/Streetwise. Especially if they started working on the highly requested Predacons, Seacons, and Terrorcons.
I went balls deep into CW toys when I barely paid attention to the modern TF toys, TR I'm avoiding almost everything unless it's something that really catches my eye. I'm sure lots of other consumers are doing the same.

I'll never admit it in court, but I have everybody from Superion, Menasor, Bruticus, Defensor, Sky Reign, and Ultra Prime except no Slingshot, Wildrider, or Viper (I never saw Viper anywhere).
Also have Bombshell, Megatron, Cyclonus and have both versions of Groove (and Wreck-gar).

Haven't bought any of the online only toys aside from deluxe Groove. I kinda want Computron and Victorian but seeing the total price upfront like that instead of in chunks is kind of a deterrent.
