For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

They're not bad, but the balljoints on them might be too small for some kits. They're also RG detailed, so they'll look out of place unless you start scribing.

You're lucky your kit is grey. Black is good for gray, but any other colors it looks like shit. Get a gray marker too.

Sanding sponges are easier to use for beginners imo. They contour to the shape of the piece so it's easier to sand, but they do make the edges softer looking. You can get a cheap pack of sanding sponges at Sallys for like $10 for a pack of 12 sponges iirc.

Also IBO is shit. The joint plastic also has a tendency to wear down for some reason on Graze kits (I do like the Graze design, I've got like 12, but the Ein is fucking garbage).

Again, Andromeda is fucking shit nigger, you should've got Nier or something worth it.
>>
>>6247561

I finally caved in and bought the 1/100 Tieren from amazon at. Probably would have been cheaper to wait for it to get in stock at my usual shopping places, but I wanted to finish my 1/100 00 collection. Also grabbed an MKII 2.0 titans ver at the same time.
>>
>>6247774
>Probably would have been cheaper to wait for it to get in stock at my usual shopping places

Don't forget time is something you're constantly paying. The chances of a Tieren reissue are incredibly low. If you paid $60 or under for it I'd honestly say that isn't that bad.

I've been tossing the idea around for sticking an inner frame in there for stability, since the base kit is pretty flimsy, especially in the legs. The surface detailing is a lot better than a lot of recent MGs too.

Don't apologize. It makes you look like a sissy.
Get some 800, 1000, and 2000 grit sandpaper. I also use a small file to remove nubs. Just file it down til it's almost flush, then sandpaper, then buff with a buffing block.

Just a heads up, /m/ had decided on their next groupbuild theme.
Seeing as how /toy/'s last groupbuild of non-gunpla didn't receive much entry, some of you guys here might be interested in joining this one.
Hey, the more the merrier.

**MELEE GROUP BUILD**

Build/paint a Mobile Suit with a loadout focused on melee combat! Anything from shields to swords to lances to axes to bare fists is fair game. There's no room for ranged weaponry here, however, so anything resembling a rifle, rocket launcher, cannon, pistol, or any other ranged weapon is a no-go (Small ranged weapons that are built into the kit itself like head vulcans are ok, however).

Start Date: 4/1
End Date: 5/31
>>
>>6247520
Do we have a release date for that thing?

>>6247970

Just a MG GM Sniper II probably.
Also wanted to again ask any other anons who've had the kit already for a bit, noticed any stressing or splitting on the spots circled for the shoulder parts? Would help me determine if it's worth it to try and paint this one later on, or just keep it a snap-fit; and save the paint treatment for my White Dingo variant.

Thanks!

>I've been looking through Mandarake and got the X2 Crossbone and GM cannon.

Speaking of stress marks, if that's the MG X2 you have incoming. Make sure you shave down the exposed end of a U-shaped interior socket in parts E8 & E9 for the Core Fighter, otherwise you'll have these bothersome marks show up(see bottom pic). Not really a problem on the MG X1s being white parts there, but might also get scratches on painted kits with those raised corners.

Hope that helps, gonna be looking forward to pics of the GM Cannon; and Bandai gives a clear part for the camera(?) part on the GM II's torso right?
>>
>>6247507
Thanks for the feature, GG.

Not sure what to try next. I've got 3 options I'm looking at:

-MG GP03 Stamen
-first custom
-first garage kit

Have yet to do a custom before, and already have an idea for what to do, but have also never done a garage kit before (looking at figures, not robots) and would like to finally try them out after getting the hang of painting. I'd have to buy the kits for the latter 2, but I get to clear out more of my backlog if I do the GP03 now. Any suggestions to which I should do? And if the garage kit, is there an easy-ish recommended one that's good for starting out?

thanks I'll look out for that

The GM II does have a clear part in the torso but they also provide a green sticker. I should've applied it behind the hole in hindsight

I've ordered a bunch of stuff from him, and it really depends on his workload and situation. Sometimes he'd get back to me the same day, sometimes it took several days, but he hasn't scammed me. He occasionally posts pictures of how many emails he gets so it's understandable if he takes a while. Since it's been 5 days, I'd say give it two more for a full week and send him another reply asking what's up since I'm sure he's just been swamped lately.

Building a Nu Ver. Ka, and have the hands, backpack, weapons, and funnels to go. Trying to take my time with it. Straight-build.

Sharpies + plamo don't work great together.

Hey what's the size difference between the hg fumina and the bust of her?

Could you replace the head of the hg with that of the bust? Or if it's too big and you felt really crazy you could scratchbuild an MG fumina maybe.

Thoughts?
>>
>>6248962
>>anything new coming out this year you excited for?
Uhh, all the ibo kits, and some of the origin stuff i guess. I'm mostly focused on the past in terms of kits.

>>how is the progress on your current build?
I'm building the cute SD winning gundam right now for fun. It's really relaxing.

>>is there a kit you've always wanted but never been able to find?
I'm currently on the look out for an mg spallow, but i generally just buy whatever catches my attention.

>>have you gotten anyone else into gunpla/plamo?
Nope. Wait actually two people. My aunt and my cousin. She's been doing it for six months and is already a thousand times better at it than i am. Her first kit was an immaculately built MG of something from not g reco, but the series with all the garbage HGs. Her second kit was an HG unicorn. She's mental.

>>what is one thing you wish you would've know before your first build?
Nippers. Don't use a scalpel. Take it slow.
>>
>>6249063
Hg fumina is like a 1/10 abortion. The bust is a large head that's grossly oversized and won't fit on the hg. They're in completely different scales.

I know there are Japanese people that already made custom full bodies for the figurise busts, but I can't find them at the moment.
>>
>>6249071
Yikes. I was hoping at least maybe i could repurpose a frame arms girl face. Or maybe use a FAG as a base?? I don't know. Why does the HG fumina have to suck so much. Bandai is supposed to be the best at plamo kits. But i guess koto is better at faces.

Plamo kits of robots, not anime girls.
It's like how the Bandai offering of anime girl figures have been poor when compared to what Figma do. It's improving which shows they are slowly getting the hang of it.
>>
>>6249063
On this topic would anyone recommend the bust of her or not? From the photo's I've seen I think I like the way it's looks but I'm still unsure since I've never got a non-mech kit before.

Wow what. Huhh, i feel like i could still do something with that. I don’t suppose I'm lucky enough that the skirt splays out or moves at all? If not i suppose maybe i could swap the arms and legs at the elbows/knees. I feel like there's potential to mash the powered cardigan together with the fumina in a way that works aesthetically.

I think the gm's head could fit in fumina's neck socket and look okay with the outer collar. I'm not sure. Whst do you think?

GM head is way smaller than Fumina head. It'd look silly.

>>6249325
Nope to almost all of your ideas. Super fumina has a bigger neck joint than normal hg and the hg gm head would look undersized anyways (The gm head in this pic is the mg type C), and the white part of the apron is one rubber piece that the skirt armor is sort of slotted onto. Also it needs that stand as the ankle armor basically kills any ankle movement along with the small feet and back heavyness.

The whole kit is a mess really even ignoring the face.
>>
>>6249336
Also, these heads are stuck on with blue tac.
>>
>>6249329
Yeah I'm having a hard time explaining what i mean. I think the smaller head could work, since gundam's don't have human proportions. If you ignore the heads and just compare the bodies they aren't that different in size, fumina's basically just more slender and a bit longer possibly. Same with her legs and arms. The only really significant difference in size is the head.

So if you placed the gm head on fumina's body it would fit gundam proportions but not human proportions.

I think it could work. If i had access to photoshop right now I'd show you exactly what I'm thinking.

>>6249336
Did you take those by any chance? Anyway you're thinking in human proportions still. Like i said gundams have much smaller heads typically. Small heads on normal bodies with big shoulders, arms, legs, and feet. Fumina is much more human in proportion.

So that whole white piece is rubber? Huhh. That's weird. So then I'd probably have to redo the skirt from scratch with, mental blank, the thin plastic sheets everyone cuts up.

Still possible. Really wish i could mock this up in photoshop right now.

>>6249340
Well, unrelated, but blutac is a fantastic tool for drafting custom stuff.

I think i can do an improvised neck joint too.

So, like, I'll want to kill myself if I get something like this for ~60 eur or a similar Revell starter kit for ~80 eur? Because splurging on a 200-300 eur setup when I'm spending far less on the models themselves doesn't feel right...

>>

Damn, I thought I'd get a good deal because no shipping involved. Do you guys generally find online better overall for gunpla? Or did I just stumble into the wrong store?
>>
>>6249533
Depends on the kit, sometimes it's only a little more, sometimes it's a lot more and I wouldn't bother. You pay the extra to support the store and because they essentially already paid shipping.
>>
>>6249533
Online is better overall for virtually anything that's not too heavy to be shipped, physical stores cannot generally compete on pricing, which isn't surprising given all of their extra expenses.

That said, I have, albeit rarely and a long time ago, encountered older kits (even old MGs) being sold for 2-4 bucks in local toy stores.
>>
>>6249533

Depends where you live, Asia is generally pretty good in store, US is generally slightly more expensive, I'm in the UK and places like tokyo toys and japan cool take us for a fucking ride even online.

Sometimes it's cheaper to buy locally, but most of the time, there really isnt a point.

Theyre good for huge individual purchases though, eg Neo Zeong or Dendrobium and bulk orders, because of shipping costs.

golf clubs are more expensive than course membership
guns are more expensive than hiring a range
cars are more expensive than track days

consoles are more expensive than games

Most hobbies are like this, it's better to get good quality the first time round than buy shit, then delay buying the good stuff.

>>
>>6250363
Koto's color seperation in general tends to be really good, I think Stylet was probably one of their worst examples of separation. This means you can go the flat coat route. Will make your model look so much better, hell I even use it on partially painted kits and you can't tell what was and wasn't painted. This way if there are some small areas the color separation didn't separate at all, you can just hand brush those details with minimal effort.
>>
>>6250363
>buying an almost useless ab setup instead of buying spray cans

idk
>>
>>6250373
Spray cans cost 10-20 eur and I would need at least a couple. That adds up too fast even for 2-3 models.

>>6250372
I'm considering the flat spray can approach (for Gourai at least), would it also be enough to keep the decals in place? Like, decals and then 2 coats of flat Tamiya.

I do want to have a red Stylet eventually, though.
>>
>>6250114
You painting that large of surface areas with gundam marker? Brave man. I personally have yet to seem to be close to running out of my Grey markers which I use a good amount of for joints and exposed inner frame sort of stuff.

Warning to you though. I can't tell you exactly what top coats will be safe, but Gundam marker reacts pretty badly with some of the more commonly used sprays like Tamiya.

>>6250379
Don't think you will need that many spray cans to repaint a FAG. I mean it is just the armor right? Definitely not as much area to cover then most kits. But I still get what you are saying, those costs definitely add up fast. Also you can just use some weathering powder to add more definition to the flesh parts. tons of examples of how to do it get posted between here and the Shinki General. Wait I am in gunpla general right? yeah, good, get confused sometimes.

Decals? well they should be pretty dry and in place on their own before you spray. But yeah top coat will help with them not peeling on you for whatever reason as long as they aren't just laying there.

Also what kind of decals? those transparent stickers? Or are they actual decals like dry transfer or water slide? If they are stickers you will want to first trim up the sticker really close to the actual designs. That will help minimize how obvious they are which the top coat will help blend the edges with the surface a bit better.
>>
>>6250397
Weathering powder is also insanely expensive here, although I guess I can import it at least. As for repainting - primer, 1-3 colors, top coat, I'm looking at 50-60 eur here.

I mean the decals that come with the kit, I was under the impression that they're water slide as usual, but haven't actually checked, certainly makes it easier if they're stickers. Thanks for the advice!
>>
>>6250407
imo water slides will look better, but regardless also best to double check that stuff. As for the weathering powder, you don't have to use strictly officialy made weathering powder, it might make things easier but there are other options. Like getting a hold of chalk/dry pastels. You lightly scrape the tops of them so you get a fine powder.
>>
>>6250410
This is probably a silly question, but would cosmetics makeup powder work?
>>
>>6250416
I am not sure if anyone here or on the shinki board has too much experience with using that sort of stuff, but I imagine it would. I mean BJDs require 'face ups' right? and I have noted many times how the aplication brushes for the weathering powder, plus the powder them selves remind me so much of makeup stuff.

And considering the techniques used for applying the powder to a FAG's flesh parts is pretty much the same principles as actual makeup... I would be shocked if it would not work.

Cosmetics contain all sorts of oils and shit that could potentially create problems with paint/plastic.

Cosmetics are also NOT designed to last the way paint or weathering powders are and can discolor over time.
>>
>>6250397
>You painting that large of surface areas with gundam marker?
Well I didn't phrase that well at all. I'm PANEL LINING with a Gundam Marker. I'm using silver for that vaguely Tron look, I just don't want to run out in the middle.
>>
>>6250443
I did figure that they definitely would likely not last as long, but didn't even take one second to consider the face powders would have oils in them. Guess I am just a typical man who hasn't got a clue about the consistency of make up.
>>
>>6250450
Dude, you probably won't come close to running out with a single kit if just panel lining. The top coat is still a potential problem though with just panel lines. Personally I make either washes or use Sakura Micro for panel lining so no personal experience how they react with top coats.
>>
>>6250453
Good, I was just a little worried because this is my first time using a marker this extensively and there are a (not really) surprisingly large number of lines.

>>6250490
most likely a model kit, iirc they are using the Megami Device body for them, but could be wrong.

>>6250489
You could look at revoltech Monster Hunter figures for inspiration, Tigrex and Rathalos. If you want to attempt kit bashing then there are some Gunpla with stuff that can work, such as Epyon Gundam's whip weapon which serves as a tail in Mobile Armor mode.

There are also the Kotobukiya Zoids kits, but those will be very pricey. Oh also check out the Danazine from Gundam Age, thing turns into a dinosaur and has a decent size tail but not sure how easy it is to detach and remain stable from the rest of the kit.

Wings? easy Peasy, Epyon as mentioned before and DeathScythe Hell are some options. The devil/demon wing aesthetic pops up quite a bit.

the articulated arms are exactly the same, even if you had two of the same, you can just put the other arms on the other side and it wouldnt be wrong. I'll probably end up doing that myself because i already snapped the wrist joint on the non-articulating arm _(:3

That's what I'm saying, you need two of one variant to get one with TWO articulated arms and one without, but there are TWO variants...
If they are also blind boxed (meaning you don't know what's in the box before buying), you might have to buy dozens of Universal Units before getting either MiNi-gogg with two articulated arms.

The arms are symmetrical and the hands are removable/swappable. So as long as you are lucky with your blindbox pulls, you can actually make a fully functioning Hy-Gogg with all the option hands by buying only two boxes.

Decided to try out my first FAG, and also first Koto kit. Holy shit, everything fits so tightly that they did not expect you to paint it as is. I guess this is good practice to sand some stuff down. I've also gotten a better appreciation for Bandai construction too. While it looks nice all put together and has lots of parts for something HG-sized, Bandai definitely has better runner usage, parts fit, and joints because I feel like I can snap everything on this with the lack of polycaps and tightness of everything.
>>
>>6252119

Yeah, I remember reading how she's the worst, but I did like her design the most. Gonna be a lot of masking later on, but it'll be good practice.

I just wanted to be 100%, but these are actually water slides that come with FAGs, right? I've never had water slides that wasn't from SamuelDecals so seeing them looking pre-cut and with a kit is pretty nice. The eye decals was also a really good choice for painters too since I was worried about that before seeing these.

It is old, definitely an obviously old kit when dealing with the torso. But the arms have a great deal of articulation and the simplistic nature of the main body does minimize impact of the lack of articulation the torso should have. And of course, the main appeal to HyGogg was the crab shape and super long arms, which the kit does great.

I have yet to hear anyone regret buying the HyGogg kit.

What do you guys think was used to panel line here? It looks very warm grey, and actually looks weirdly quite opaque?

I have a MG Providence on the way and I just found out it has the same hips as the MG Freedom, which...apparently have some problem with breaking easily? Can anyone tell me more about this and how I could potentially avoid it?

Is there such thing as an affordable/small scale vac-metalizing (chroming) service? I want some parts done up in gold chrome to relive my childhood, and paints just won't do.
>>
>>6252339
The knees do that as well. And the hands are a pain in the ass to pose, thanks to the bigass wrist guard.
The RG sinanju is an absolutely beautiful kit, but fuck me if it ain't unwieldy and difficult to pose.

How would I go about achieving this shade of purple?

Does anyone sell anything close to this?

purples a hard one, there aren't many premixed ones. Usually nothing that dark though.
>>
>>6252909
dang, so my best option is to mix and make my own concoction then huh.

I'm thinking a little bit of maroon, and a one drop of tamiya x-4 blue

>>6252911

I'm a little disappointed desu, senpai.
>>
>>6252912
im really new to this, making my own colors, any advice would be greatly appreciated. if you can point me out to some videos, etc, i will gladly do my own research
>>
>>6252913
That was me being incredibly facetious, friend. Blue and red do make purple, you're probably on the right track.
>>
>>6252918
i was thinking adding about 2 drops of maroon, and 1 drop of x-4 blue on a base purple mix. idk. thanks though

Almost looks like Burnt Umber.

Testor's fluorescent pink is pretty great for zeon monoeyes. Any other good effect colors you guys use? I'm just starting painting and would love ideas on what to keep an eye out for. I'm pretty much limited to testor's and model master's paints, though I did find some tamiya spray primer.

Started painting the main body. Feels like it's too blue to me. Doesn't have that weirdness the color of the plastic does. Any suggestions?

Would you pay more for a kit if everything (that was possible) came undergated?

How do you find nub removal, is it tedious or do you think that it's just part and parcel with the hobby?
>>
>>6253074
I just find a lot of nubs that defy common sense. How the fuck do i cut some of them cleanly. Why couldn't you move it 5mm over where it wouldn't be an issue.

Does undergating actually increase the cost noticeably at all? Seems like it wouldn't be too hard to implement from a design standpoint, and the increase in plastic seems like it would be minuscule.
>>
>>6253097
I'd assume it wouldn't be cost effective if they weren't already doing it. That's the only reason I can think of. Maybe it's got something to do with the moulds they use or something like that.

I mean, it's something that makes the build process much easier for the modeler and makes the end result look so much better, so there must be some reason to hold out on such a positive application.

Anyone happen to know off the top of their head if I can install a LED into the head of my Mk II Ver 2.0?
>>
>>6252532
One thing I forgot to mention that I intended to about HyGogg. His body has a LOT of space in it for setting up LED for light up eye. And the top of his head is very easy to remove allowing for that to be where you place the switch instead of trying to hide it in the back or disguise it somehow on the outside of the model. And most of the seam lines for that piece actually blend into panel lines so not as important to seam weld as something like the shoulders.
>>
>>6253074
I'd pay marginally more, but not a lot. Nub removal is part of the hobby to be sure, but sanding does get to be tiring after a while and some places they put the nubs just don't make sense. I should probably also buy better nippers but I've dumped a lot of money into materials and tools of late and want to cool it for a bit.

>>6253074
This is probably gonna be an unpopular opinion, but I find undergating to be a pain in the ass. Trimming off all those extra bits under the part adds another step and takes forever. I much prefer standard sprue gating, even if it means sometimes it scars, because I am lazy.
