For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

I know this might be frowned upon but can anyone help me make a 3d printed design of the handles for pic related?
The measurements for what I've been able to get is

Handle Measurements
Diameter= 0.75 inches
Length= 4.75 inches
Beveling/rounded area= 0.75 inches

Hole Measurement 2 types
Blades= 0.5 mm thick
6mm wide
25 mm length

Chisels= 2mm thick

I started trying to learn 3d printing in January after my uncle bought me some hobby chisels when he visited.
My graphics card crapped out when I was like a week in and Zotac has been shitting the bed with my RMA :/
>>
>>6234848
why would you get those in the first place?
something like rg astraea, hg cathedral or mg tallgeese 3 i can get, but straight recolor?
>>
Since I'm pretty sure getting a smooth metal finish is impossible by hand paint, I decide to give spray cans a shot.

It looks more shiny in person but I'm not sure if it was worth it. First try for everything though.
>>
>>6234856

why you mix inches and milliliters?

just use sketchup and find some shady plugin to convert them into 3d print format you need lmao.

you should think twice before doing it, 3d print ed objects are way too fragile and bristle, i would hate if a chisel explodes in my hand.

If you have a set of chisel blades and no handle, why not drill holes of same size on a pencil or wood chopstick?

or maybe you could buy actual chisel handles, you know.
>>
>>6233345
Nice shot in the sun there. Planning on picking up the special edition for my first MG.
I don't think I can bring myself to panel line it until I either paint it or get past its 'lifespan' in the show - all of past Gundam here I come!
It just looks so classic without that and without the stickers applied.
>>

bad habit i picked from a part time job where both were used

I too prefer spray cans for metallics. Unless it's tiny details, then you can get decent results, sort of.

There's this Kuboten page that says they can middleman for parts, though I haven't checked where they ship, but I don't live in the US and while there are middleman services that can ship them to me, at two middlemen it's cheaper to just get the whole thing save for the clutter of having a bunch of boxes laying around.

Do you have one? I was worried that the hooked shape tip would be less effective in certain spots than a normal pointed tip scriber

Like removing excess material in tight spaces, for example inside of a rectangular lens after seam welding
>>
>>6235541
hook works better than straight for scribing as it doesn't tend to jump off as much

you are not going to use a scriber for removing material, there are normal chisels for that
>>

I was hoping to use them for both scribing and chiselling

Maybe I'll get Mr line for the sizes I want to scribe in and a normal chisel or two

So i just got home from trip to a not so local hobby store, and for whatever reason they're putting all their recognista stock on clearance with discounts of all around 30%. There's an entire shelf of just mack knives, and another with a mixture of dahacks, bullocks, monteros, and a few other things.

Do people not like recognista? Did it sell poorly in general or just at this shop?
>>
>>6234848
I just like collecting variants. I've got every HG graze released except for the option pack. I've got like four default graze, two normal ritters, and two normal schwalbe, plus the two reginglaze variants, all the other graze, and almost everything else that's got graze parts in it.

I started doing the same with zaku prior to ibo, but there's too many, and graze are so much more affordable.

Maybe it's autism, maybe it's maybelline.
>>
>>6235703
recongista was a flop in general

the kit engineering of the kits were mediocre for modern HGs (with a few exceptions)
>>
>>6235703
Not a lot of people like the show. Can't say how well it did in plamo sales overall, but it probably didn't sell like hotcakes while the show was running.
Which is a shame, the kits are nice except for G-Self and I wished they make more kits of other designs too (Hecate, Recksnow, Moran, ReGIT, the list goes on)
>>
>>6235703
Engineering is pretty shite, and the advertisement didn't do so hot. But the engineering is really shit, compared to age which had pretty great kits.

That said, elf bullock, montero, gastima, dahack and of course the grimore are nice designs worth getting, since pretty much everyone is trying to clear stock
>>
>>6235721
>>6235723
>>6235728
Wow, that's a real shame. Personally I've really enjoyed all the recognista kits I've built. I love the style too. And the engineering is a lot better than a lot of other hg kits I've built.
>>
>>6234635
For some reason all the Sharpie silvers and golds I buy never have good inkflow. They quickly get patchy-looking like the gold on your chestpiece there. The only one that really works reliably for me is the bronze...
>>
>>6235733
The engineering is still modern gunpla engineering, but there's a difference in mechanical designers for the shows. AGE, IBO and GBF had Kanetake Ebikawa who is really great toyetic designs that translate into gunpla well.

What >>6235768 said. The Reco kits do have decent joints, but they started the line with the G Self which actively blocks the double jointed elbows and makes them useless.

Later in the line, they say fuck it and make the G Arcane, which is fucking phenomenal, and then they ignore that and go back to limited articulation with the Jahannams. The line is all over the fucking place at that point.

Also gonna post my G self wip

There's also this: https://hlj.com/product/prokk-126/Sup
0.2 mm chisels, saws, and a plate file with three different grits. You can put them on a small cutter handle.

Also those Wave Chisels also needs to be sharpened since they are a bit dull out of their packaging.
>>
>>6235782
That looks great. The astaroth bits are a nice touch.

I'd heard that g-self was trash, which is a shame since it's a neat design.

And yeah the jahan is pretty flaccid when it comes to engineering, but it's aesthetically pleasing at least. Actually on second thought, it loses a lot of points in my book for that awful quality eye sticker. What a joke.

I don’t know, a lot of the design choices seem like almost the 'alpha' or test run for ibo. Like ibo learned from all the mistakes made by reco.

There's a lot of parallels in the two series of kits, just in practical design or engineering. At least that's what it seems like to me.
>>
Okay so if there's the graze, the leo, and the jahan, what other zaku-types are there in the gundam extended universe?

Was. That one guy did pretty much 90% of Reco MS/MA designs except for G-self and Recten/Recsnow, which were done by the guy that did Street Fighter designs.
There are actually 5 designers in IBO:
>Ebikawa (All Grazes, Valkyrja frames, Flauros, Tekkadan flagship Isaribi, cockpit designs)
>Washio (All Barbatos, both Rebakes, Hashmal, Bael)
>Gyoubu (Rodi frames, Hugo, Shiden, frog Gusion, all Kimaris, both Astaroths and Vual, Rustal's flagship Skipjack, Vidar)
>Shinohara (Hyakuren, Hyakuri, Rouei, Hekija, Kallisto, Triaina, Dantalion (pic related))
>Teraoka (all mobile workers and most carriers)

Is there any way to get a list of em, or am I gonna have to just look up random exclusive kits to find out? I'm pretty sure they're not labeled "P-Bandai" anymore, since that search term mostly just brings up the same old list of expensive kits shipped from Japan.

Wow the zaku family is a lot larger than i thought.

But someone explain to me why the jenice apparently doesn't deserve an HG, MG, or even a Re1/100?

I can understand the busshi being overlooked though.

I think I'll have to put together a zaku family portrait some day, with all the kits of all the 1/144 zaku-likes. Now that's an aspiration.

Also, does the hi-mock count? Isn't it sort of like a bastard? I've never watched whatever series it's from but i always assumed it was a plagiarised version of the zaku.

those are just notzaku outside UC.
In UC? zaku II alone has a alot of variants and families. And then there's the notzaku within UC (den'an zon, zolo, whatever jupiter empire has for notzaku, and their respective variants).
as for jenice, my guess it's because it was a blatant notzaku, but zaku warriors exist and that had kits, so I don't know.
hi-mock originally was mock which was supposed to be a ripoff of gunpla in-universe or something like that.
>>
>>6235870

>>6235818
The G-Self's biggest issue to me was that it's a fucking sticker fest. The forhead jewel is the worst offender since the sticker just will not sit straight or stay on no matter what you do. Not as big a deal for someone with more experience that paints their kits, but as someone just starting out it was a frustrating mess to work with.

I had a very difficult time deciding if I should line mine or not. I ended up doing it and adding the stickers. I like the way mine turned out, especially for my first kit. It isn't top coated in this pic but adding a few coats of Tamyia flat coat really makes the details pop.
>>
>>6234928
Thank you so much.

If I knew with 100% certainty that I could panel-line and apply decals with not a single screw-up, I'd got for it, but that's one of the few Gundams out there that looks spectacular just out of the box, you know?
>>
>>6235849
Speaking of stress marks, would hairdryer do the trick for stress marks on bended thin parts, like Reborns' wings? I know it did for TF, but no idea if it would as well on gunpla kits.

>>6235995
Well, he did the Thrones and Arche before, but the mass production suits based on Thrones, GN-X series, was done by Ebikawa.
Also, I don't know about the first Rebake but Washio himself confirmed that he did Full City.
>>
>>6236024
Tips for future kits: more than one coat of Tamiya flat is a waste. It won't get any flatter. Just make sure you have good coverage and leave it be. Remove clear parts before flatcoating if you didn't already, it will frost them.
>>
>>6236059
>it will frost them.

>>6236063
Try the usual methods for stripping paint? Idk. To be honest with you, I accidentally frosted a clear part once, and I just have not been able to get it clear again no matter what I tried. So...try your best and run through all the ways I guess. Hope it goes better for you than it did for me.

>>6236059
I know that it won't look any flatter. I do two or three coats to make sure I have good coverage.

As for the clear parts, yeah gotta mask those. My MG Zaku II will be the next kit I coat so I'll need to mask the visor with some tape. I also have an HGUC Ground GM I have but the head and visor are so small I don't know how I'll be able to mask it. I may try to pop the visor back out but I may just skip coating the HG all together.

Another tip for the future. When I know there will be clear parts involved I build everything into "chunks," basically assembling everything except those clear parts, and then spray the parts, pop in the clear piece, assemble the chunks, and bam, you're done.

Way easier than masking and totally risk-free. I mean, sometimes you get leaks and stuff, yknow? Better safe than sorry. I mean, think about it--if this were an action figure you'd HAVE to mask the clear parts, but this is gunpla, and you have the benefit of having it come unassembled. Why throw away that privilege?

Yeah I hear ya. Some kits you're stuck masking the clear parts like the Zaku. I mean I could pop the clear visor and monoeye off but then I'm getting paint inside the head internals. But if I do decide to topcoat like the Ground GM for instance, I'll just pop the visor off.

>masking clear parts
consider for the moment the real-life sizes of those things and how likely they are to stay shiny/glossy/polished in real life scenarios
>>
>>6236137
I give no fucks about a little paint getting inside the internals. If you're really afraid of it, it's way easier to stuff the insides with paper towels or messily masking tape them up than it is to precisely mask a visible clear part. The former, if you get a little leak who cares, it's on the inside and nobody will ever see that small blemish. The latter, it will be plainly visible and a bitch to fix.

In the end it's still up to you, but I'm telling ya, I've been doing this for over a decade and simply taking the clear parts out of the equation has worked better for me 100% of the time.
>>
>>6236144
You do have good points. Why introduce risk when there's a method that involves none?
>>
>>6236143
There is some truth to this, but I like the look of clear plastic and refuse to waste it. And anyway, even if I were going that route, I'd be carefully drybrushing or applying a little weathering powder to the clear part, not going FUCK MASKING and just covering it in uniform flatcoat.
>>
>>6236148
>be carefully drybrushing or applying a little weathering powder to the clear part
both would require some form of flat coat to be there first or they simply won't stay on
>>
>>6236155
Uh...nah, not really? I've done both to bare clear plastic? I mean, maybe it would work BETTER with a flatcoat there, but like I said, I don't wanna frost the piece, and in any case, your assertion that it won't work at all is incorrect

posted this on the /m/ gunpla thread but it seems to be slow atm.

So, I broke a the part on the backpack of my RX-78-02 The Origin that holds the right beam saber. it fell over and the saber handle caught on something and snapped the peg right off. I tried using tweezers to try to pry the peg out of the handle but it just ended up making it worse. Now I noticed that I have one of those nifty Bluefin caution labels on the box. I got the kit as a gift but my brother, who got it for me, kept the receipts for all the gifts he gave out this year so I have that as well. Now does Bluefin still provide replacement parts if I send them a picture of the broken parts, the original receipt from where he bought it, and the Bluefin sticker and UPC, will they still send me replacement parts? I tried looking it up online but I could only get results from a few years ago, what else I can find seems to indicate they'll help me. I live in the US by the way.

The ones you ordered are attached to the plastic runner("frame") in the same way as other gundam kits. You need to use a hobby nipper or some other technique like shaving or sanding to remove the nubs.

Later kid-oriented kits like recent BBsenshi, Sangokuden, LBX, etc kits use this simplified gates (pic) that allow the parts to be easily twisted off, just leaving a tiny nub-mark behind.

I wish all kits used these gates honestly. I don't see any downside to them and they would make things more friendly for snappers while creating less work cleaning nubs for more serious modelers.

I usually do the whole careful snip and denub w/ knife thing, but sometimes when I'm tired I just wanna twist and snap.

Thoughts of making custom IBO suits based on Ars Goetia descriptions?

example "Saleos[5] (also Sallos and Zaleos). He is of a pacifist nature, and causes men to love women and women to love men . He is depicted as a gallant and handsome soldier, wearing a ducal crown, and riding a crocodile."

So Gundam Zaleos would be of green colouration and take a defensive loadout, shields abound. Female pilot maybe?

If hg it will plug right into one of the 3mm holes on the back. If the 1/100 you'll either need to add a peg to it that matches the hole on its back or just glue it to the back.

The Hyper Function kits are like...a particularly good HG Gundam or maybe a super simple MG. They're nice to build and nice to look at, color separation is pretty great.

The standard LBX kits are somewhere between a BB Senshi and HG. They're still enjoyable, but color separation sometimes suffers and they tend to be sorta sticker-heavy.

In either case I highly recommend them if you can get them for fair prices anymore. I had a good time with every one I built. This isn't my build btw, just posting it again cause it looks great.
>>
>>6237919
Yeah, probably pretty good cause the color separation on those things is absolute shit. The better grade of kit you buy, the less painting you have to do to make it look decent. Just being a good painter isn't enough though, you'll also need to know how to pla-plate or putty to make them look decent, cause there are big hollow gaps on those kits that look terrible.

Just don't buy EX Standards, they're really poorly made and most of the suits in it have older SDs that are much better made.

I can't find Hyper function kits for a decent price in the aftermarket. The prices skyrocketed probably after Bandai stopped making LBX kits since 2015.

What are the chances for Bandai to do a reprint like they sometimes do for Gunpla because i ain't paying 5k for pic related.
>>
>>6238433
Seems unlikely. It's been awhile since they stopped making LBX kits with no sign of a reissue. And I could be wrong, but I think the franchise seems sort of dead in the water. Everything associated with it seems to be over except the manga.

I'd probably just bite the bullet if I were you. I did once on a Hyper Function, and well, I love it so much I feel like it was worth the price.
>>
>>6238407
No, the Vidar stands better. It's not the best, but it's significantly better than the other IBO kits I've done. I'm working on topcoating it now, but I ran out of spray.

IMO you should use lacquers for metallics, because just about every acrylic metallic sucks in comparison. Go Google some images of tamiya metals and compare it to something like alcad or Mr color

I just hope you're not trying to handpaint them.

oh that's my Lucifer. Yeah, the hyper function is a mini MG pretty much however, this particular kit has a bane and that is the clear parts that connect the wings to the back, they are really brittle and after just some time, they simply broke, you can still attach the wings directly, but the angle is a bit odd

Found some metallic sharpies at a Micheal's and also found some oil based metallic paint markers with super fine tips.

I already tried it on a handgun and it looks glorious. I only got gold, bronze, light silver, darker silver and dark grey. But holy shit the dark grey is almost the same shade as an inner frame. The Geirail shield holds well as long as you keep the arms flared out a bit. The 2 ridges that wrap around the arm is good enough to hold the shield without flailing around.

Not the guy you're talking to, but aren't precision injection molded parts pretty hard to recast at home with any kind of accuracy? I mean, you're talking precisely cut and refined steel molds pumped with hot plastic at very high pressures...to a soft silicone mold filled with hand-poured resin or urethane. I would think parts fit and tolerances would be a big problem. Not to mention, silicone, resin, and urethane aren't exactly free either, and the amount of work you would do recasting all of those parts individually (because I'm pretty sure you can't home-recast entire sprues at once) would be so tremendous that you would far exceed the cost of the actual kit in labor alone.

I DO know how to recast, and have a fair amount of experience with it. It's great for if I want a second sword for my figure to hold or if I lose a part and need to dupe one. But recasting an entire model kit at home sounds like crazy talk to me, there is just no way that's worth your time or money.

So I told Kotobukiya to release a model kit for less than 1500 yen and he actually did it, the absolute madman.

Hexa Gear, a new line coming out in August. 7.2cm tall so very small, but it only costs 1300 yen. The designs are pretty cool too, hopefully it's successful. I don't mind tiny model kits so I'm excited.

There's also some Zoids-like things in the same line for 3800+ yen large enough for the little guys to ride.

>>6239840
These guys reminds me of Kojima's Ludens. Depending on the height difference and even if it's significant, he could make a neat leader unit for them in the Hexagear universe.

>>6239850
True enough and I do quite like its design in both games. But now you're making me think of a model kit for it as well. Why did you do this to me?

you do NOT recast runners, that would be retarded
you build subunuts, seam weld, sand and polish THEN you recast and assemble

>there is just no way that's worth your time or money
i was talking about army building, OF COURSE it won't be worth it if you want a couple more units, you do this if you want 20, 50 or 100 more, think WH40K minis

won't that lose the articulation?
>>
>>6239926
It really is good enough I guess. Well, easy for me to say since I like the stuff.
>>
>>6239922
I kind of feel like you're not really thinking this through. It seems like you're just getting irritated and flinging out what SOUNDS like an easy solution to you. In order to preserve articulation you're still gonna need to recast every single component of every joint separately, and I have no idea how you'd reproduce polycaps, since the material they're cast in is a large part of why they work. Plus, even if you're recasting entire built and seamwelded sections at a time, you're still not accounting for the natural gaps (like the inside of hollow thighpieces, for instance) that are not normally airtight and will need to be puttied in order to be cast, or the internal complexity of certain modern plamo connections that I don't think will hand-cast well at all. One air bubble or shit, even just the tolerances differing a bit can mean your entire joint won't hold together anymore. Bandai and Koto are the top of the plamo game for a reason, it's kind of laughable to me that you think in any way that you can made something anywhere near as good by recasting at home. At best I might feel comfortable recasting like, a simple HG from the 90s this way. A kit with modern engineering, and a very tiny and likely intricate one at that? Nah.

And yeah, recasting 40K minis is ENTIRELY different. I've done that a bunch of times, it's easy as shit because they usually only have a few parts, or in some cases are just one single cast piece. Plus, assembling them is VERY forgiving, it's usually gluing a flat surface or nub onto a matching surface. You're talking about something much more complex here.

you on the other hand are trying hard to find reasons why it won't work, i know this mindset too well

these are not HGs with
>muh amazing modern engineering
we are talking 7cm minis here

yeah, if you want to preserve articulation you will likely need to do something about the joints and use semi-rigid epoxy to make them snappable post assembly, but not seeing the runners I can't tell what if anything would need to be done

these are too tiny to have any kind of advanced joints/polycaps/etc, judging by the promo art the joints are primitive and sturdy (think microman) so recasting will actually be simpler than you think

anyhow, let's agree to disagree and pick this back up when the runners are out, at this point this is all speculation
